I brought in my gucci sunglasses to get readjusted today and the careless, inexperienced sales representative (Ashley) broke them almost instantly, did not apologize, and did not have an ounce of remorse for what she did. These sunglasses are $600 and the general manager said they're not going to do anything about it. I've been a long time customer with them, what a scam. All the employees jumped on Ashley's side, and I left with nothing more than an apology I had to drag out of them. I've had issues with customer service here since the first time I walked in and this was the last straw. Do yourself a favor and never come to this place. read more

On 5/4/13, My wife and I visited Visionworks for an eye exam. It was our first visit to Visionworks, as we had recently moved. I received a prescription for glasses and my wife received a prescription for glasses and contacts. We both saw Dr. Robert Silverman for our exam. On 4/3/2014, I placed an order with Vision Direct for contacts for my wife. My wife told me today (one day later) that the order was rejected because Vision Direct was told the prescription was more than one year old and had expired. During lunch, I called the local Visionworks and received a busy signal. I called again and again and received a busy signal on three separate attempts at different times today. I called the 1-800 number for Visionworks on their website, and spoke with someone who put me on hold and patched me through the branch. The first person I spoke with was confrontational and told me that it was the doctor's decision whether or not a prescription was still valid. I explained we had visited 11 months ago, that my wife was out of contacts, and asked why the doctor's decision was that the prescription was no longer valid. The woman on the phone explained that if we ordered contacts today, we'd be using them after May 4th (one year after the exam) so the prescription was considered invalid. I asked for a manager and was put on hold. While on hold, the hold music turned to silence after a few minutes while my wife and I were talking about the issue, but no one on the other line spoke. I said hello, waited, then said hello again, and the hold music resumed a few seconds after the second hello. The hold music stopped again with no one saying anything, going back on hold after a hello. The third time I was told that the manager was not there but that I could speak with Heather. Heather told me that she could get me a copy of the prescription, but that she would need to wait for the doctor to come out, and then she could fax me the prescription. Two hours later the prescription still hadn't arrived, so I called and asked to speak with Heather. Heather said that she would get me the prescription shortly, and a few minutes after that I received a copy of the prescription, but in the Remarks area the doctor had written: "* only authorized for 1 box total until next exam". Looking into New York's Fairness to Contact Lens Consumers Act, and just using common sense, it seems wrong and unethical to have the extreme push back of telling a contact seller that my prescription is expired and then telling me they cannot issue me my prescription because they don't want my wife wearing the contacts past the 12 month window since her last exam. I am very frustrated by the actions taken by Dr. Robert Silverman and this Visionworks. My wife has worn the same contacts since 2005, and the same prescription for many more years before that. We have never had this problem with any past doctors who, like Dr. Silverman, all said her eyes were in very good health. Every doctor she has seen in the past decade has given her the exact same prescription and a clean bill of health. I feel this doctor's behavior in withholding my wife's prescription is in violation of the New York Fairness to Contact Lens Consumers Act and my wife's rights as a consumer to purchase contacts with prescription that should be valid. The inability to reach the store by phone, the behavior of the first woman I spoke with, and the frustration I've had with this store ensure that my wife and I will never do business there again. read more

All I wanted to do was schedule an appointment. I called several times, and only received a busy signal. Finally, after two full tries ringing two minutes during a REGULAR signal, someone picked up and promptly put me on hold...for 20 minutes, until I hung up, and tried to call back SEVEN more times. I guess I've always had the experience of having a closer "doctor/patient" relationship with my eyecare professional than I have had at Empire Vision Centers. Don't get me wrong, they do what they do in a timely and efficient manner. You come in, there's a decent selection (I'll get into that more in a bit), the staff is friendly, you're in with the doctor, then you're out. But again, there's not much of an opportunity to establish a relationship with one particular optometrist. That may or may not be important to you. As far as their selection is concerned, they do have a pretty large offering. My only complaint is that (and this may be reflective of the eyewear industry as a whole), the quality of frames seems to have gone done dramatically. If you're willing to spring for a pair of Oakleys, then you should be fine. I do like that they are very upfront about their pricing and always seem to run some sort of discount. That's very helpful for those of us whose insurance only covers glasses/contacts every 2 years. They try to make sure you're getting the best deal possible. Overall, I have no major complaints about Empire, but I don't think they particularly go above and beyond. read more

A screw popped out of my glasses this part Saturday. When I got to the store it was closed but a woman was nice enough to open the door and take my glasses inside and insert a new screw. It was a very nice thing to do and something she didn't need to do. Thank you to her if she sees this. read more

Unfortunately, my old eye doctors (Dr. Jeff and Nancy Starr - highly recommended) no longer accepts my insurance coverage. So I had to go to this location. I found the staff to be not very patient friendly. Very mechanical, and the staff doesn't seem to know how to think beyond their "corporate script" of how to handle patients. They see individuals as customers, not patients. Would NOT recommend. read more

I think this optical store is great. The store is always fully staffed with friendly and helpful opticians. I ordered a frame that I turned out to not like, and they gave me a new frame, no questions asked. I have dealt with all the optical stores in Clifton Park, and this one is by far the best overall. I have a very good place where I get my glass' lenses made, but because my funds were lower and prices were rising and my ins. company did not havet Ithaca Optical as a place I could use, I chose Empire Vision, because it was a more convenient location. I had chosen a no-lense frame, which was a type new to me and had progressive, non-glare and transition lense put in. Right from the get-go I had trouble w/ grease from my eyebrows getting onto the lense and could not get the lense far away from my eyebrows to correct the problem. This persisted for the 1 3/4 yrs I wore them...eventually the grease could not be cleaned off and bothered my eyesight. The 2nd concern was that the non-glare coating began to come off and the company said they would not be able to help out with that problem. The third problem was that t;heir pricing was high enough that the bottom line is that I was unable to save nothing and actually ended up paying more for the product. Last week I returned to my usual optitrition for my lenses. It was so nice to be able to see clearly again. There was a 4th concern, that should have been my first and that was that I had trouble seeing correctly. Not sure if it was the perscription or the person who tested my eyes. read more

I recently had trouble with eyeglasses that were ordered. I called, and VisionWorks responded immediately. They completed another free eye exam, and switched out the lens that was bothering me. They stand by their product. In addition, I must speak to the atmosphere of this business. The front desk was going nonstop, and although it looked like they were overloaded, they smiled and were friendly through it all. They get the patients moving and the wait time was minimal. I am super impressed by the professionalism exhibited by this company. read more
