I had a great experience at Visionworks. I was able to book my appointment online. When I went in, I was seen (no pun intended) right on time. The staff at Visionworks was incredible from start to finish. They asked me to take my contacts off for my visit and provided me with a spare case for them. The doctor said my eyes were adapting beautifully to the contacts (which I have only been wearing for a year) and there were no issues. My prescription didn't change at all since my last visit a year ago. The staff told me what was covered by my insurance and gave me a quote on my contacts. Even when I said I wanted ti see if I could get them cheaper elsewhere, they had no problem and gave me a copy of my prescription. (I got them for almost a hundred dollars cheaper at 1800contacts but I suspect that's because they buy in bulk and are able to give a better deal to the consumer). Visionworks uses top-of-the-line tech to check my eyes and keep me seeing 20/20. read more

This Vision works is the best one I've ever been to. I live about 25 min away and I'd rather go here than the one right behind my complex. The optometrist who did the exam was the sweetest, personable, and explained this that I didn't understand. The fact that they have a machine that takes the place of the eye drops for dilation is awesome. And then your just seen by the doctor so much quicker with they system they have set up to do their part all on telehealth. Everything is so quick and painless and without feeling rushed. I was given all the right information about my copay's and they worked with my insurance and my budget. Highly recommend. read more

Overall the exam went smoothly, a bit of a wait past my appointment time and another bit of a wait before I could sit down with the fitter after the exam, but nothing worth throwing a hissy fit over, probably an above average waiting experience for any medical appointment. My only real gripe was this: I ordered two pairs of glasses. Their website said the second pair was on back order so I waited a few days hoping for them to show up before going in to pick up pair #1 (regular glasses) to avoid having to make two trips. Eventually I caved and went just to pick up pair #1. As it turns out, pair #2 (Rx sunglasses) came in at the same time as pair #1, was there the whole time, and they had no clue why the website ever showed them as back ordered. read more

This office is dim, dusty, and rude. Have had dozens of disappointing and curt interactions with the receptionist and technicians. The doctor is actually kind, efficient, and professional. She deserves a better lot of coworkers. Finally the last straw today-when within my less than a minute long phone conversation with the clerk I was condescended to so sharply I had to stop her. I asked, "is friendliness and service a priority at this office?" to which she hung up on me! Save yourself the frustration and choose another visionworks location. read more

Staff gets frustrated when asked questions for clarification. I am being very polite on the phone while trying to get information about new contact lenses. I was transferred without warning or a heads up. They put me on hold with no intent of ever picking up the phone again. I can probably drive over to Visionworks and still be on hold... read more

I went here cause it was close and convenient. I needed glasses for the first time . Dr Brem was great and answered all my questions and was very professional. I than picked out glasses got measured and purchased a pair of progressive lenses for the first time .. I struggled for a week , I went back a couple of times to get them adjusted and couldn't figure out why I was having so much trouble with them .. so I ended up going to the East Greenbush location and found out 1. I was measured wrong . So my script wasn't lining up correctly. 2. They were crooked .. which I kept telling them that my eyelash was touching the glass and they never fixed it properly. 3. I was givin the basic progressive lens .. Brunswick location never offered me the better / newest lenses .. so the oldest version creates a bunch of blury areas which was driving me crazy . 4 . Brunswick location never offered me any other options, like non glare .. so when I learned of the better options I was able to get my glasses redone with the better progressive lenses .. first day wearing them they were great .. I felt like the women that took care of me at Brunswick didn't care about me and my needs . If she did her job properly I wouldn't have had to go through 4 weeks of nonsense!! I definitely recommend Eastgreenbush location .. I learned so much there and they cared about me and my needs !! read more

I visited Empire Visionworks last week. Dr. Brehm treated me for a routine eye exam. In the middle of the exam I questioned if the strength was right for one of my eyes which sent him into a state of craziness. He ended up cussing me out (mostly f bombs), kicked me out of the room and wrote me an Rx without even completing my exam. He told me how he was sick of patients like me bit**ing all the time. It was wildly inappropriate for anyone to react this way let alone a licensed optometrist. The manager was nice and apologized and said she would investigate. I hope she does because I worry that another patient will not react as calmly as me in the future and more harm will take place. Stay away from this dude. read more

This place was the worst place I ever got glasses and I am 72 years old. The initial exam was good, although seeing a doctor via video was unusual, I was able to converse with him and the exam went smoothly. It was afterwards when I ordered the lenses where I began to suspect that this wasn't a good idea. I ordered 2 pair of no line bifocals. At no time did she measure the distance between my pupils. She did not ask me to show where my reading point was. She did not tell me what they were going to do with the the lenses regarding coatings, etc. They said my insurance didn't cover the exam ( which it does). All they did was quote me $800 for clear and sunglasses. When I went to pick them up, they were wrong. I could not find a place where reading was clear. She kept telling me it was because I wasn't looking through the right part of the lens and I should be moving my head up and down until it was clear. She actually seemed to yell at me because I couldn't find the "sweet" spot. I declined them and got a refund. NEVER AGAIN. EDIT: I went to a stand alone optometrist and discovered even the prescription was wrong. At no time did they do any measurements on the new frames and how they will fit my face. No measurements between pupils, NOTHING. read more

My husband and I had an appointment in May 1st, and the staff were very helpful and took time to explained their current process for eye exams, starting from preliminary checks, video call with the doctor and eye exam. Subsequently, the staff provided assistance on choosing the eye glasses that would fit well and explained what our insurance coverage is. Overall, we had a very pleasant experience. read more

My daughters glasses broke so i took them to get fixed at the vision works in Delmar. They were rude and where not helpful. I decided then to go to the vision works on hoosick street. Danae Nickens was so extremly helpful. My daughter was very upset because the backup glasses she had was very old and she could not see well. No problem initially on July 25th.. They told me my glasses would be ready the 8th of August. I called the 11th of august, they "discovered" there was a mix up with my order and would be contacted when they came in. Have been trying to make contact again and I have great success with Walmart Plaza answering service, but I am unable to make contact with Visionworks.You need to add some staff who show professionalism to this store. I can now see why 1 bad apple spoils the barrel, I will NEVER do business with Visionworks again. And I will discourage as many people as I can from using them read more

I understand covid has made things more difficult but my glasses were ordered wrong and for the life of me I cannot get through to a human on the phone. I've been on hold multiple times for 45min+. What started as a simple mistake has made me never want to do business with visionworks again because I cannot contact anyone to even tell them I have a problem. If you call the store number, first you have to deal with Amelia the bot. She usually shoves you in the direction of the website, then hangs up. On the off chance you figure out how to get past Amelia, the phone rings a little lonte and you get another auto menu that will likely tell you there is no agent to speak with. If you try that menu enough times and actually get in a queue you will be listening to repetitive saxophone music for the next hour or so until you give up and just hang up. read more

This was the worst experience my wife and I had for an eye examination.We are 64 and wearing glasses since 10 years old.The woman scratched my glasses when she was checking them on some machine.On pre-exam she could not get one machine to work even with tech support.We left before exam.My opinion stay clear of this so-called eye care office!!!!!!! read more

For one daughter, I ordered 2 pair of glasses and instead of the small light pink kids glasses we ordered, they provided a large pair of blue adult glasses. They mentioned the same thing happened a few days previous with another little girl. They went to reorder what we originally ordered, but it was discontinued. Then they proceeded to try to get my daughter to try on a pair that didn't look anything like what we were looking for so I just canceled the 2nd pair..... 2 weeks later, I started receiving texts and emails that the canceled discontinued glasses were ready. I talked to the store and they said, yea, happens all the time after new company bought us out and we no longer have lab and all orders come from Texas.... they send the wrong orders, lose glasses, claim discontinuation, then find a pair left somewhere in inventory. Not great experience with the daughter above but the doctor was really great and I already had an appointment scheduled with older daughter. I had received a text saying to schedule her appointment online. A couple of days before the appointment, I received a text saying they had to reschedule: I called the store and spoke with someone to reschedule. I rescheduled with the person on the phone and there was no mention of a virtual doctor with an in-person appointment and none of the confirmation emails and texts mentioned anything about a virtual doctor. We arrived for the appointment 10 mins early and they had two separate records for my daughter, neither had correct information so i am not really sure if the one record that they were attempting to merge belonged to my daughter - one had an address that we never lived at and isn't close to our address. They claimed it must have been my fault for the duplicate records because, when making the appointment I must not have entered the info the same as the incorrect existing record (many apologies, I didn't know I would need to spell my daughter's name wrong to make the appointment correctly!) . They then mentioned meeting with virtual doctor- I asked what this was and they said I must have made the appointment for the virtual doctor (I did not). I asked if an in-office visit with a virtual doctor was really the best option for a shy 8 year old. They said no, and that they shouldn't be scheduled with children, but said no one from vision works checks to make sure virtual appointments aren't scheduled for children.... and it must be my fault because I scheduled online (per the text they sent me telling me to schedule online). I also mentioned the store texted me to say they needed to reschedule and no one in the office told me about the virtual doctor when I rescheduled. They said it was because I rescheduled online. I let them know I actually spoke with someone in the store to reschedule and didn't use the online tool and they said oh, well that must have been on Thursday and it was just the assistant, Mary and she doesn't know anything..... I checked my phone, and it was actually on Friday that I called, not Thursday. They said then I must have talked to the store manager.... who also never mentioned the virtual doctor and had me confirm date of birth on the phone - so it should have been apparent this was a child. I also found out the original appointment had been canceled because their doctor suddenly quit...Anyway, they kept trying to unsuccessfully send me a link to register while I was standing there for 40 minutes. The other store associate asked, why didn't they just give me paper forms because it would have taken significantly less time then the 40 mins I was standing there. They also asked me all sorts of personal information about my daughter (dob, medical insurance info, insurance subscriber, address, then medical insurance information again....) and shouted it back to me to confirm. I also heard all the personal Info about all the other people trying to check in as it was shouted back to them. Anyway, the lady who did the in-person parts of the exam was very nice and great with my daughter. We had one virtual assistant do one part of the exam and then had to wait for the doctor... and we waited and waited. The screen would say 4 people ahead of you, then 3, 2, 1 then it would skip to 5. Apparently the numbers do not relate to your place in line. The virtual doctor talked to us for about 2 minutes, asking how long she wore glasses (something that was already part of her record had he read it) and was saying it wasn't good her prescription got worse quickly, unless it was genetic. Again, he would have known genetic if he bothered reading her records - if they even had a correct record. I was there for over 2 hours, and didn't bother selecting glasses b/c I will order elsewhere. read more

Longstanding patient. Missed last years appt. due to Covid. Recent visit arrived 15 minutes early as recommended. Sat until 25 minutes AFTER scheduled visit time. During this time (on a Saturday) I heard countless stories from staff to other patients about how until Weds they were maskless but they suddenly had new regs. Had chairs so close (touching) that someone sat next to me and was physically rubbing against me. I'm immunocompromised. Then they lead me into room with 5 eye testing machines and expect me to place my head into them. I advise them that I wanted only a simple exam and refraction. Was brought back to showroom where "manager" loudly explained in front of everyone that I was required to get these random tests, esp. glaucoma or I could not see Dr. I am in healthcare. USPSTF states glaucoma testing in asymptomatic patients is not recommended. I then told them I was cancelling my appointment as their pre-exam requirements were inappropriate and they were not able to provide the service that I needed. (In addition, patients rights to refuse care was not being followed. I offered to sign a form stating I was refusing x, y and z and only consenting to a, b, and c) but she was (very publicly) adamant that I could not do so. read more

Sometimes it gets busy, but it's never been a big deal and when I have an appointment, I'm all set. They really work with you and try and get you discounts when you're ordering contacts too. I arrived for a 9:00am appointment today and was greeted immediately by the manager Annette who had all my information on a clipboard, performed all testing and answered all my questions. Very prompt and professional service from start to finish as I was back in my car by 9:48am. Dr. O was beyond personable and very knowledgeable.
