Our go to hotel when we visit Asbury Park. The hotel is clean, the staff is friendly and it's a perfect location. They offer free coffee in your room and the lobby as well along with free bagels. Their bar pool area is always hopping. They offer karaoke as well. I highly recommend ocean view as some of the sunsets are spectacular and worth the price of admission. read more

This was my first trip to Asbury Park. I enjoyed the Empress Hotel. I was not sure what to expect since I book the reservation over the phone. It didn't disappoint me. The dog friendly room was very clean. Beds are very comfortable. The view of the ocean was beautiful. The staff was outstanding! Friendly and so accommodating. Breakfast was yummy and set up so nice. The drag show next door at the Paradise was so fun! Reminded me of my New York City Days and trips to Fire Island. Admission was free since I slayed at the hotel. I really liked the hotel and it's location, it's across the street from the boardwalk. This is my go to stay whenever I spend the night in Asbury. Our room was spacious and clean. We were able to park our car in their parking lot which was great. The staff was very accommodating. I inquired if we could check in early, they took my number and said they would let when know when our room was available. They called me about an hour later and we were able to check in early. We were hanging out on the beach prior to that. Check in was quick and easy. My only complaint is that the bed was a little uncomfortable. We only stayed for a night so it was not a big deal. Have you ever been to a place that is the best, and a Zen place. For me, that is the Empress Hotel in Asbury Park. I just love the place and the location. The summer has been a busy and this is my first time back in two years. I call it an oasis in the desert. Sometimes a great employee can also make your stay extra special. This is a wonderful shoutout to Eleshea Frost. She is kind and so helpful and just makes a terrific impression. Going the extra mile so to speak. The hotel is clean and welcoming along with an terrific breakfast buffet on the weekend. The rooms on one side overlook the ocean. When you travel alone, it is important to feel safe, and I always do. Kristin, is the manager, and I wanted to make her aware of a great job by Elesha. Kudos. May I interest you in a rant? OK, before I get to that, yes, you should stay at Empress and you can click back now. After staying in many coastal California hotels and attempting to do so in the NYC area, I'm annoyed by provincial dipshits who are sure that NYC is the best place ever and that California is 24/7 traffic jams with Botox. (caution - I may not be sure when Twitter ends and the real world begins). You can find a variety of affordable-ish, clean, mid-range motels in Redondo Beach that you can reach by bus. But in this area, there are hotels in Long Island and Asbury going well over $300 with a straight face. I did an Expedia search for a weekday and a certain Long Branch spot wants $561 for a night including taxes and fees. So don't judge Empress if it's a tiny bit pricier than the Pittsburgh Doubletree. When I searched for a July trip it was far cheaper than the Asbury, but now they're more comparable, maybe the word got out? A couple of reviews had a "well located but old" theme so it was nicer than I expected. It wasn't a Westin bathroom but room itself was pleasant, with a scenic terrace. The Wi-Fi was decent. The workers were very friendly. The only negative about the room itself is the lack of a refrigerator. The location is superb - right near the beach and Stone Pony, walkable from the train station depending on luggage. read more

The Empress Hotel is great for the location. Right off the boardwalk, steps away from the bach, and right beside the Stone Pony. The room itself was fine. The bathroom could use some updating (our sink drained real slow) and I did fine a bug hanging out on the sink. It was like having the quirks of a NYC bathroom in AP. I wish the room was a little cleaner when we stayed, as someone left behind a used plastic wrap for their sandwich in the ice bucket. Other than that, it was pretty clean. The staff was really friendly, and catered to our needs. The pool is perfect too! I'm def going to stay at the Empress Hotel again, but if you're looking more for luxury than just a place to crash after a beach day, you may want to look elsewhere. read more

I stayed for 2 nights, king room and it came out to about $480. Which is a steal for Asbury park. The Berkley just down the road would've come out to about $630. 1) The room was pleasant enough. We picked an Ocean Side view. Spacious enough for 2 of us. The water pressure was superb. I liked that they already had the extra towels in the closet so we didn't have to ask. The mattress was firm. Some might find it too firm but I like that. We had 5 pillows, which was also nice! The AC was great. Easy to regulate. I loved the balcony. It comes with two plastic chairs. Since we picked ocean side, we were able to watch the live shows from our balcony. Only hiccup is opening the balcony sliding door is extremely hard. You'll have to yank and pull. 2) Rooms do not come with a mini fridge. You can request a mini fridge in the room. First come, first serve. If not, bring a cooler! 3) They have a nice pool, with plenty of lounge chairs and complimentary pool towels. They have a roof top lounge area and they also have a tiki bar! The bar area accepts cash and credit card. When you check in, they give your cards to give you access to the pool area. You'll have to show that card and show your ID. 4) The staff was extremely friendly! Welcoming! I'm not too sure what others were complaining about the staff. They helped us, gave great advice and even let us check in 30 minutes early! They even can accommodate a late check out. Just ask. 5) There is free parking, though limited. It is shared parking with the bar parking lot. First come first serve. (I think about 18 spots?) You'll have to register your car at check in. If not, you will have to pay street parking. For 3 days, it can come out to $90. 6) I read reviews complaining about noise. Aside from standard beach board walk noise, I didn't have that problem? The live concert was heard outside, but to be expected. Admittedly, it may be because we were there during the week. But I believe you should have a realistic expectation when at a night club hotel. 7) The location is amazing. It's on the board walk basically. You can walk over to the beach. I mean like a 5 minute walk, if even. You're next to everything. The Stone Pony. All the food spots. 8) They only serve breakfast on the weekends. I recommend stopping by the ShopRite (or ALDIs, Costco or Target) 10 minutes away and loading up on food and snacks. So you don't blow your money and all the boardwalk food. 9) This hotel is attached to an adult nightclub. They are LGBQT positive. They have fun drag trivia nights and all that. Super fun! But be aware if that is something you do not align with. If choosing poolside room, be aware that you might hear the splashing of the pool and chatter. Overall, I loved my stay. I'd come back again. Again the staff (shout out to the manager, Kristen! Who answered her own email to accommodate my requests) they made me feel welcomed and really were helpful! Watching the sunrise from my balcony is a memory that will stay. Can't wait to do it again!! read more

There is absolutely no handicapped parking spots in this hotels parking lot, or anywhere nearby. We had to cancel the reservation for the week because it was impossible to park and help my handicapped passenger out of the car. They need a dedicated handicapped spot in the parking lot. read more

We just had a great weekend at the Empress hotel. My bf and I were looking for a late winter getaway near the ocean. Asbury is great in the summer and this was my first off-season visit. After looking at many high and what I believe over-priced options, the Empress Hotel was really reasonable. As a result we didnt expect to like it THIS much. The hotel is charming, and has a lot of character of an OG hotel, actual working bathroom fixtures like your home, not corporate plastic lined showers that are moldy and leaky. Our room was spotless and we had an amazing view of the ocean. The continental breakfast was also better than we hoped for. The coffee was actually GOOD (not weak). We liked our late March stay so much we already booked ahead to ensure we can get some good summer time in when the beautiful pool is open. read more

I had a great Empress Hotel experience. I was there for a bachelorette party so had access to a regular room and a suite. Both rooms have balconies and views. The suite had an ocean view and a balcony that wrapped around the suite. This location couldn't have been any better. It was a block from almost everything: the beach/boardwalk, Porta, Stone Pony and many other shops/restaurants. The hotel also has a pool and club downstairs. Think Vegas-lite. Covers are waived for hotel guests. There's a continental breakfast in the morning that had items like bagels, fruit and coffee. The hotel itself was a little older but clean. I thought I'd have issues with the aging shower but it has pretty good water pressure and toiletries. The Empress Hotel is a fun option for a visit to Asbury Park. read more

Location is great. Right across from the beach and boardwalk with restaurants and bars. Staff is super friendly and helpful. Rooms are on the small side but clean and had everything we needed. There is a nightclub that goes until 2:00 am on the weekends, so be prepared for music and partying that can be heard in the rooms, I'm guessing especially the pool facing rooms, which we had. We were there for a party anyway, so it was no problem for us, but something to keep in mind if you want quiet. Overall, good hotel, great location, great staff, fun atmosphere. read more

This place is my little home away from home now . I stayed here overnight because my daughter had a concert at Stone Pony Summer Stage which is just a few feet away. I loved it, so went back alone for a "just me" weekend. These people are so lovely and the guests are all happy. Such a great vibe. Especially Bridge - so welcoming to everyone and enthusiastic. Rooms always clean, fantastic brunch (free) on weekend with best bagels (as per Bridge) and the location is steps away from amazing little food places and clothing and other stores in addition to the beach. There is always an interesting convention there such as the tattoo conference and there is a cake convention coming up. Great music, boardwalk, people and The Empress is home base. Hi ! I came here to see a show at the Stone Pony. Place is 2 blocks away I was able to park in their small parking lot; there are warnings it won't accommodate all guests. There are spots marked as 'do not park', they are serious, do not park in the 'do not park' zone. The Empress has a worn look to her. But clean. My room was small, and one of the lights was out. There were few free electric outlets, and I had to unplug something to plug my appliance in. There's a small bathroom. The toilet tissue was strangely under the sink. The sink's cold and hot water taps were reversed from the usual. But as I found out, the water was as you expect it; the 'hot' and 'cold' knobs were on the wrong taps. They have WiFi, but it didn't reach the 4th (top) floor where I stayed. There is a (gay) nightclub on the first floor. You can hear it even in the 4th floor. OK, so why 3 stars after my complaining ? Location, price and a nice staff. I'd definitely come back, knowing it's limitations. read more

Stayed here last night after the Low Cut Connie show at the Stone Pony. Nothing not to like about this place. It's fun kitschy, and the people who work here are laid back and extremely helpful. Good restaurants right across the street. Two minute walk to the Stone Pony. How about an ocean view room for a hundred bucks? It's off season sure but still a killer deal. The bass notes from the club were still pumping when we turned in, but the super firm king bed was so comfortable we slept like babies. No fridge in room. Just felt the need to add a short update to our original review. Service was excellent. Our room was very clean, very comfortable, and quiet enough. Yes, you can hear the club music but in our 3rd floor ocean facing room it was fairly muted. The front desk gave us pass to the night club which we used and enjoyed. As for the rate, best to book directly with the hotel for the best rate and room. The husband studied the online sites extensively but the hotel website offered the least expensive option. It's always nice when you stay at a place Where they treat you like family. I checked in, the clerk asked if I was here on business? When I replied yes, he promptly reassigns me anymore accommodating room. I had a lot of work to do so for him to anticipate that was much appreciated. The interiors are a bit dated, but my room was spotless. The room included a microwave and a coffee maker but unfortunately no hot tea. I'm sorry the weather was so awful because the view would be spectacular on a beautiful day. I've stayed at all the hotels in AsburyPARK in this one definitely has the best views of the ocean. Empress Hotel has been on my radar for years, as Asbury Park has been my go to fave beach since 2009. However, there were a few kinks in this place that just rubbed me and my guests the wrong way. Did i have a terrible experience? Not exactly, but quite a few turn offs. Let's start with the positives. Phenom location, free parking lot, free pass for every guest in your room for the Paradise night club, very clean hotel and room, continental breakfast has great bagels, comfy beds, rooms are a decent size, amazing patios, big pool and tiki bar, paradise club is so much fun and reasonably priced drinks. Moving along to the bad... The key cards constantly stopped working, most of the time we didnt even have them near credit cards or cell phones--they would just stop working. after checking in, the keys didnt work and i had to run back down stairs to have them correctly scanned. Absolutely terrible check in.I have never had such a slow, and draining check in. the woman working the desk was nice, but literally moved as slow as a snail and seemed to make things a bit more difficult and maybe didnt know what she was doing most of the time--it might be their process of doing things, but it was terrible. Also, i had requested 2 rooms next to each other 3 months ahead, and a fridge in each room. No fridge in the rooms, we had to have them brought up like an hour after check in. Rooms were on the same floor, but not next to each other.also one room was ready for check in at 3 on the dot and the other one wasnt ready, we had to wait a few mins. Both rooms were extremely warm, stuffy, and 4 of us in 1 room woke up congested to the point to where we couldnt breathe and couldnt go back to sleep (the stuffiness and congestion woke us up). I noticed every vent had mountains of dust on them. Also in the closet, on the ceiling of the closet, was a big circle of mold and peeling paint and who knows what else. Guess who didnt hang up her stuff in that closet...Also that same room had the toilet that clogged and spilled out water and other nasty stuff throughout the night and morning. We called up the service once and they brought a plunger, but it got to the point to where we were scared to go to the bathroom. it kept cloggin throughout the night and day. Speaking of bathroom, the water pressure sucks and 2 of us slipped in the same shower because of this old white mat they have in the tub. they only gave us 2 towels, so i had to request more. Each room had a phone to call down to the office, but neither of the phones worked. really, fake phones in the rooms? weird. so the noise. we stayed on the 4th floor and it was noisy as hell from mutliple rooms, we didnt mind since we were partying too--so if youre looking for a relaxing stay, especially on the weekend, keep that in mind. you wont rest! im sure they put the families on different floors, but keep that in mind. something that totally freaked most of us was when all 8 of us ladies were in one room getting ready to head out for the night, at about 5:30 PM, a man knocked on our door. we answered and he asked us if we had extra beer. now, i get down and party, and i am sure i did something similar in the past, but usually im sitting out on a the deck or patio and socializing with the people in the next room to me. although this isnt the hotels fault, but one of their guests decided its cool to knock on the door and ask for beer? mind you he was looking in the room as he asked and probably noted, oh look a room full of women. i felt this was tacky, and if anything a bit of a safety issue too. read more

Came during off season and felt we had the whole floor to ourselves, as my bff screamed at me for hours after i turned down the heat. I wanted someone to complain about the volume of her voice as it was bedtime and i did not want to listen to her anymore. No one complained as she spent incessant energy yelling at me over the heat. I did turn it down two degrees. AMAZING view outside and glad we were able to blaze on the balcony. The blazing really helped me ignore my friend screaming about me turning down the heat. Not sure about food because nothing was open yet. Would stay here again. Place was clean and accommodated all our needs. Not a snotty/luxurious place for yelp reviewers. No frills hotel but the location is great! Clean, decent sized room. Friendly staff. Great rates (at least on an off season Thursday). They have a bar downstairs that had cheap drinks and a golden girls night. Win-win situation as far as I'm concerned. I was in town for a Third Eye Blind concert and glad I picked this hotel. Asbury Park is so hot right now. Literally, and figuratively. Cause it's like 90 degrees there errrrday at the moment. Because there is such a wide array of concerts, food, bars, and of course, beach it makes sense to stay the night. And if you are going to stay the night, then Empress is the place to be. This night in particular involved an outdoor concert at the Stone Pony Summer stage. The Empress hotel is a stones throw away and has a handful of outdoor balconies that overlook the concert for prime time viewing pleasure. Overlook as in, you don't need to buy a ticket. Instead, you can chill on your own private balcony, drink cheap beer and relax without hoards of people around. Sounds nice, eh? Okay, my story has a reason, it's why I gave this average motel without room fridges or floor space in the room an above average rating. I called about 9 months in advance (5 minutes after the concert was announced) to try and score the coveted balcony room for the show. Sadly, they informed me that they were all filled. Wommpppp womp. A few months later, when a room opened up they remembered the sad gal who had just missed out and switched me over to the balcony. Needless to say, I was absolutely on top of the world when I found up about the switch. Obviously the staff here is super considerate, and it was so sweet of them to make that change. They also offered us free beach passes for the day when we checked in, as well as complimentary passes to the pool. So yes, it's not the most glam hotel out there. And yes, our room had like two extra feet of walking space and it would have been really nice to have a fridge to keep my beer cold. But...I saw the show from my balcony. We went to Asbury Park and quickly got tired of the beach scene. Too much trash, too much garbage, and too many kids. It was suggested that we buy our way into the Empress (yep, for a few bucks in case, you can chill out at the hotel pool and have your fill of poolside drinks and snacks). It was a good call. For some reason, the hotel wasn't crazy packed and wasn't as pretentious as I thought it was. Just a bunch of people (mostly gay men) enjoying the sun. We actually had a reservation at another hotel because the Empress site said that no rooms were available. As it turned out, there were vacancies - even some that overlooked the pool. SOLD. The room was ok, decent beds, nice balcony. The staff was nice too. Overall, we had a good time (until the next morning when we all had to high-tail it to work). Until the next, Empress. read more

I stayed at the empress hotel on 07/08/16 for one night while attending Stephen Marley concert at Stone Pony. Check in was a breeze, staff very friendly, the stone pony venue is right next door (a perfect view from our balcony). I enjoyed having a spacious balcony, but one gripe is that there was no seating. Right across street are; the waterfront restaurant (zero AC so we left after one pre-show cocktail), porta (delicious pizza during the day, fun/spacious bar with great music at night), several other dining options, the beach and Boardwalk (I'm not a beach person but this is prime location). There is also a pool and night club within the hotel (didn't go to either but at midnight they featured a drag show). The rooms are a bit outdated, but clean and comfortable. The lobby and elevator lacked in AC and was uncomfortably hot and muggy, but our AC was working and on blast in our room. We paid $264 for one night, which I feel is reasonable for the excellent location and time of year. I also appreciated the 12pm checkout..was able to sleep off the night of many drinks. A less than 5 minute drive brings you to the center of Asbury Park (cookman avenue). There is meter street parking and several blocks with cute shopping boutiques, coffee cafes, bars and delicious restaurants (toast, bonney read, brickwall tavern, Brandos cucina). Across the street from the shore (with a partial view, if you're up higher), this place is a bit of a pain to get to unless you're in the area... at that, the front doors were locked when we arrived at 10p to check in, so we had to go find a side entrance in the rain. Accommodations were standard, and the service wasn't bad. There's a flashy Paradise club right next door, and it can be a bit loud if you're facing that side (and the bright, gaudy lighting). read more

If you are someone who needs beauty sleep to not be a raging B - I recommend staying at a different hotel. In my email confirmation it said "there is a club downstairs so you may hear music until 3am" What it didn't say is that you'll be on the top floor and the music will be so loud that you want to stab yourself in the head so that at least if your ears are punctured you won't hear the music. But that won't stop every single thing in the room from rattling. My biggest mistake of 2018 was waiting too long to book the more expensive hotel down the road and having to deal with this. Another hour and a half before it closes so I'm going to be a real gem tomorrow when I've had 4 hours of sleep. Wtf do you put a club in a hotel. The bed is not comfortable. It is all springs. Some of the staff are super helpful and some are not at all. I don't understand why they can't put bottled water in the vending machine. We had to go downstairs, get carded by a security guy, even though WE JUST WANTED A BOTTLE OF WATER. Wtf!!!! My friend had a less than 1 star experience. Basically she checked in on a Friday for 2 days and after our wedding event Saturday she came back to the hotel to find she was locked out of her room. Long story short is they didn't know it was her room, that she checked in, or who's stuff it was. it took them 20+ mins to figure out the problem and fix it, though they never figured out WHAT happened but it sounds like they changed her room and didn't tell her. I am sitting here with my migraine, while the room shakes from the techno party downstairs and I'm raging mad. This is the worst hotel experience of my life, I don't understand how there are so many 4&5 star reviews. Did we not stay in the same hotel?????? The music alone is enough to say NEVER AGAIN. The walls are paper thin. People come up and down the hallways making a racket, though who could blame them when it's a spring break atmosphere. The doors slam closed. The bathroom is super outdated and amenities are hardly included. I'm not waiting til check out tomorrow morning to write my review because I know I'll never come back here. Ever. All rooms should come with ear plugs. God bless the people on the second floor, because I literally can't even think of something horrible to compare it to. There is nothing. Except trying to sleep. On spring break. At a club. Only one hour left til the club closes. Then it'll be 3 am and I can sleep for 4 hours before I have to leave. Stayed here for one night. The hotel itself is very clean and organized. They have plenty of available parking for people staying at the hotel, which is great. I don't think I recommend this place if you're staying for longer than a weekend because its not the most comfortable. My room smelled like cigarettes when I walked in so I had to leave the balcony open and spray febreze. Besides that, the location of this place is great. We stayed here one night for the Runaway Guys Thrown Controllers happening here. Overall, this place is great. Check in was super easy, the rooms are clean, and I love the fact that it's very quiet (I think we came off season). The lady at the front desk was super nice, and I think we were the only ones staying here that night. My only complaint is that the beds are super uncomfortable, the pillows were very nice but I just couldn't get used to the beds. I was able to sleep well since I was exhausted, but the beds were too firm for my liking. I thought it would be noisy since Paradise is just right by it but we didn't really hear anything in the room. We got a corner room (rm 401) which has great view to the city. It makes me very sad to see the effect that COVID-19 has had on everybody's revenue however, they are taking every measure to keep their guests and staff safe in the hotel and at the pool. Please support the Empress and Paradise during these hard times because they are making it happen with a smile.
