I have to agree with a couple of the other reviewers on here about Brian's change in business in the last year. We used him in 2014 with great results/response time and service. I even recommended him to a few other people. We hired him again to come out in 2015 (to take care of the common ant issue in Portland) and I'm not sure what he did differently this time but it did not solve the issue. I texted him multiple times (finally getting a response after leaving a VM) and he came out a second time, which I appreciated. When, after the second time, we STILL had an ant issue, I have reached out multiple times with no response. I have finally just given up. Definitely disappointed to be writing this review because my experience with him in the past was so positive - hopefully he'll swing it around and get back to providing the 5 star experience I initially had. read more

I'm really disappointed to write this review because I really liked Brian when he came out to our house in September 2014. He was super responsive via phone and text and was able to come to our place the same day I called! I found him to be very personable and helpful - he even noticed a mouse problem we didn't know we had. He got rid of the spiders who had been torturing us and I promised I'd call again. Fast forward to April 2015 and I've been trying to get ahold of Brian using all communication forms available on his card and website with no response whatsoever. I feel stupid for recommending him to my friends and I'm really glad I didn't take him up on the quarterly maintenance he tried to sell me. Update ! ! ! February 8, 2017 After my last callback Brian and I had a good conversation about what went right, what went wrong, and how to proceed. At our next appointment Brian finished all exclusion work, including patching all exterior access holes to my basement with mesh and foam, patching one unusual access hole with concrete, sealing the gap at the top of my chimney with mesh and foam, relining my entire crawl space, and finally securing mesh to all openings between the crawlspace and the rest of the basement. Great attitude about the whole thing, as well. Brian's exclusion work (that's the name for closing up all the holes and gaps allowing access to rodents from the outside, ie, "excluding" them (which I love - it makes my home sound like a ritzy club)) REALLY did the trick. It has been over a week of blessed silence at night - no scurrying sounds in the walls and attic, no bumping around sounds in the basement. Seriously, it used to feel like I had a noisy roommate! I'm so glad to be rid of them. Brian explained that he will return a couple more times to check traps and ensure the exclusion work is doing its thing. Then, we can set up an annual maintenance service schedule if I want. He wasn't pushy at all. At first Brian was great, then he fell off the earth and didn't finish the job. I reached out to friends when my rat and mouse problem started, and after talking to a few contractors decided I liked Brian's friendly knowledgeable approach. During our first visit he listened to my description of the problem, explained what his $275 included, then took an exhaustive tour of the basement, main floor, attic, and exterior of my small 900 sq ft house. The plan: place traps in all 3 areas to remove the main offenders, which would take one or two visits. Cut back tree branches hanging over the house to stop the rats tree-dwelling rats from gaining access that way. Plug exterior access points to stop ground dwelling rats to gain access. He offered to clean my gutters for just $25 extra. The reality. He placed traps as promised. He came back for one visit as scheduled. We scheduled a second visit to check traps - he arrived but could not stay to work because he had to pick up a sick child from school. We rescheduled the second visit, but he couldn't make that one at all because he was caring for the sick child. At this point something was clearly dead in my basement. The smell was permeating the house, and I had to go downdstairs, find the dead rat, and dispose of it myself. Maggots had eaten thru the bottom of the rat, so visceral matter was all over, requiring an extensive cleanup. We rescheduled the second visit, which he made. He checked the traps (nothing), and removed the necessary branches. He could not stay long enough to do the promised exterior work. We scheduled and reschedule the third visit multiple times - one of which was at my request - and finally he stopped returning my calls. I've left 3 messages, all friendly and non-judgemental. Brian is great. My wife and I had some ant problems at our house about 2 years ago. Brian came out and did a treatment and they were gone! He said that he offers a warranty and if we see them again call back and he would come back to take care of the problem. About 7-8 months later my wife saw a few of them, she called Brian and true to his word he came back free of charge and they were gone for good. Brian was quick to respond on the two different occasions (over 3 years apart) that we found ant trails starting to infest our home and spiders creeping in. It wasn't a spray and pay experience that I've seen from other pest control businesses. Both times Brian came out he was very knowledgeable about what he was doing and provided additional advice to ward off any future trips. Our house has plenty of places that ants could find their way in but Brian was able to find the places that they were coming in and recommended how to prevent them from coming back again in the future. I had a pretty straightforward problem with a squirrel that had taken up residence in my roof. Brian came over, set a trap, and picked up the squirrel shortly afterwards and did the initial work to seal up the entrance for the squirrel. So far, so good. He said he'd be back to finish up his work the next time it was dry out. After a week and a half of sunny, dry weather, no sign of him. When I called to (very politely) ask when he'd be back to finish the work that he himself had committed to, he immediately became both hostile and defensive, offering a litany of excuses, justifications, and reasons why I should have been glad he did the work he had already done - he took no accountability for the fact that he had promised to do something, let it slip through the cracks and instead made it clear that it was somehow my fault for expecting him to finish up the job. Regardless of what field you're in, it's important to actually do what you say you're going to do. In this case, by Brian's own estimation, it would have simply taken ten minutes. Instead, he opted to try to weasel out of it and give a paying customer an unreasonable amount of attitude toward simply requesting an update. Given his unreliability and poor attitude toward a fairly simple project, I'd strongly suggest finding someone who will finish what they start instead. read more

Brian was a godsend. I had wasps trying to make nests in the eaves of my house. You really can't mess with an invasion like this. I talked to the big pest control people like Orkin and their way of filling you full of fear (financially and emotionally) was just ridiculous. A friend recommended Brian and he was here the next afternoon and sprayed and got rid of the wasp problem. He was half the money of the other big companies, personable and knowledgeable to boot. After a nightmate situation involving fleas, I was moving into a new residence. Fearful of bringing the fleas along with me to my new residence I decided to call EMS on the phone. Let it known that I had not used EMS prior to this event. I called and Brian answered the phone. He gave me extremely thorough advice on how to minimize the possibility of bring the pests with me and even gave me the name of a commercial laundromat I could use to wash my clothes. When I realized that the smell in my living room wasn't because I hadn't emptied the compost, but rather because there was a dead possum under my house, I called three numbers out of the phone book. EMS called me back within 20 minutes and arranged to come out the following morning (a Sunday). He apologized for the fee, and I was like, hello -- decomposing marsupial + crawl space = you deserve every penny. When he had finished, he came by my business so I could pay him, and I realized he was the same guy who had done a great job with the termites in my leased building. My problem was a raccoon in the crawl space under my house. Yikes. Brian came to my rescue. First he set traps. When that did not work, he entered the crawl space and verified the raccoon had been there but was not present at the time. So, he sealed two openings the animal used and the pest was gone after that. He is a true scientist and I hardily recommend him to you. read more

Brian was called by my husband after we noticed a infestation of little bugs on our ceiling. He told my husband that he just happened to be in our neighborhood and could come right over. He showed up about 5-10 minute later. He was nice, polite, professional looking and took off his shoes when he entered my house. He looked at the bugs and knew right away what they were. He informed me that they were harmless, just annoying and that they laid their eggs in crevices in the walls. I live in an old house, so there are lots of crevices. He told me that he could charge me 99$ to spray the house, but that because the eggs could be anywhere, it might be difficult to know exactly where to successfully spray. He also told me that although they use green products, it would still be a pesticide and I would need to consider if I wanted having a pesticide on the ceiling of my kitchen. He mentioned that this type of bug might multiply a few times, might stay around for 1-2 weeks, but then would probably just disappear. He asked if I minded just killing them if I saw them and dealing with them for a week or two. I told him I had no problem with that. He basically recommended no treatment, even though that meant a loss of a sale for himself. He told me to give him a call in a couple weeks if they were still around. THEN HE REFUSED TO CHARGE ME. WOW. He came out to my house 5 minutes after my husband called him, recommended no treatment and then refused to charge me for the housecall. Best. Experience. With. An. Exterminator. Ever. After he left I remembered my vole and raccoon problem in the backyard. I will absolutely be calling Brian to come over and help me with that in the future. read more

Irresponsible, unprofessional, and deceitful come to mind...... Ya, just like a few of the other reviews I've read about Brian and EMS, I also thought Brian was great the first couple times he was over to help me out with a rodent problem.... Then he started not showing up to my home for scheduled, paid in advance appointments..... Leaving traps in my garage and house for rats..... He told me that for the initial payment that I made, he would be back to moniter the traps 2 or 3 ...times a week for a couple weeks, and after that period of time we could determine if more service would be needed... I think that my last experience with Brian was when he hadn't showed up to my house for over a week after he last told me he would come back to check all (about a dozen) the traps for DEAD RATS.... At that point I finally called Brian.... He was defensive, and extreemly rude ...... He wanted to know what my expectations of him were, and I told him that my expectation of him was just for him to do what he told me he would do.....
