Dessert in Honolulu, Hawaii... Between meals, we needed a snack. How about bingsu (Korean shave ice)? We had seen Jackie's review, and I saw Lyla's check-in. I heard this business name before: EN Hakkore. It has returned to the food court area of Palama Market on Makaloa Street! It's a bit noisy, but fun in a way! It's a good thing that Jackie said that the bingsu portion is generous... We agree! We shared the Fruit Bingsu. We were given 2 paper bowls and 2 spoons. Perfect! The fresh strawberries, banana, and small cubes of apple complimented the slight bitterness of the espresso and the creaminess of the wondered milk. The chewy mochi balls were an interesting contrast to the azuki bean paste and almond slivers. I'm glad that EN Hakkore is back! Maybe I'll get a tea, smoothie, or coffee next time!

Snow Bingsu with espresso and condensed milk! Ooh soo refreshing and delicious. A perfect combination of snow iced milk, Azuki beans, mochi bites, condensed milk and kinako. With a side of espresso! The serving size is large enough for three people. A very thick layer of Azuki beans covers the top of the Bingsu. Food: 5/5 stars. Opened in Palama Supermarket food court area approximately two months ago per employee. Very popular here at the food court area in Palama Supermarket. Only one employee at the time of our order. Be ready to wait a few minutes to receive your order. Is it worth the waiting? Yes! Service: 4/5 stars Ambiance: a food court ambiance with lots of noise. 3/5 stars. Parking is free but limited during lunch hours due to the crowds. Restroom is available with a key.

Be prepared... Nothing like a refreshing Bingsu on this blazing hot day and here at En Hakkore a coffee and Bingsu cafe right in the food court of Palama Market. Be prepared for the size of this treat as it's quite generously massive that could feed 2-3 besties, dining is the best as it comes in a huge bowl topped with mochi, azuki beans, apples, bananas, strawberries, sliced almonds, soy flour and condensed milk...wow! As if that's amazing it comes with a shot of espresso that you pour over the entire bowl kicking it up a huge notch. The drama as we pour...ooohhhh! You're able to order the "Soybean flour Bingsu as is or add fruit for an additional $1 and if you pay in cash and save 4% off menu price. Lots of seating is provided for the various other shared foodies making it a great spot to refresh and relax with a bowl of yummy Bingsu that not only refreshes but energize your day. Thank you!

I like coming here often. The same woman is always there working hard bc the place is busy. I like her, she makes a good coffee and always apologizes and lets me know if she's super busy if she can't take my order right away. I don't mind, you can tell she's busting her butt all the time. The regulars are older Koreans who come to grab bingsu, taiyaki, espresso and talk story, so you know it's good. I'll usually order and pay for my coffee and then tell her I'll be back then I go shopping in Palama and when I come back it's good timing. Got taiyaki yesterday, best I've had bc inside not too sweet, wasn't dry, and the outside is thin and edges are crispy. Go and give her a nice tip, you'll see, she deserves it.

After a particularly challenging prehab session at JACO Rehab, I mentioned eating a shaved ice dessert to my husband before going to eat lunch. He offered going to our usual Korean shaved or snow ice (bingsu 빙수) shop at Ala Moana Center but I suggested going to EN Hakkore at Palama Supermarket on Makaloa Street. I remember eating bingsu or its variation, pat-bingsu (red bean bingsu) at EN Hakkore when it was located on Ke'eaumoku Street near the 88 Palpal Korean Supermarket. EN Hakkore's pat-bingsu has always been a jumbo-sized frozen treat that my husband and I usually share. Admittedly, I scarfed down an entire serving several years ago when we temporarily hunkered down in the Ala Moana neighborhood. Haha... I justified eating this Korean dessert as healthy since it's low-sugar, low-calorie, and mainly ice or water. Upon walking into the Palama Supermarket's food hall, the middle-aged female greeted us and I blurted our request for their Fruit (Bingsu) Shaved Ice $15.20. We noticed their Dual Pricing Notice, which informed customers that they could save 4% from the advertised price if they paid with cash. I was still red-faced and sweating from my prehab session, so I rushed to pay with my credit card. The Fruit Shaved Ice was served with a shot of espresso...whaat? But, did you know coffee and the café culture has been very popular in Korea since the 19th Century? You'd ask why pour hot coffee over shaved ice? Won't it melt the dessert and become slushy? Well, yes, the hot espresso will melt the fluffy shaved ice and mix with the fresh fruit toppings and condensed milk drizzle to create a sensational flavor treat that not only refreshes or cools your body temperature but the espresso's caffeine picks you much like eating tiramisu. We were provided a pager which informed us of order pick up. While we carried our dessert to our table, there were several couples eating their meals and they ogled our pat-bingsu. Most of the couples followed our Fruit Bingsu with espresso order since they were impressed with this vendor after seeing our dessert. I had forgotten that my husband is on a self-imposed restrictive diet and cannot eat high potassium-containing foods. I lucked out and ate all the banana slices and honeydew melon chunks. We both enjoyed the injeolmi (Korean rice cakes), which added a chewy mouthfeel, and the dry, nutty-tasting bokken konggaru (roasted soybean powder). As you know, Asian desserts aren't as sugary and sweet as Western desserts, and Asians tend to rely upon fresh or seasonal fruits for natural sweetness. If you're in the Ala Moana neighborhood and feel like getting a healthy and cooling dessert or afternoon coffee beverage, I suggest you try EN Hakkore.

I highly recommend stopping in and grabbing their coconut peanut butter or macadamia nut peanut butter. They also have several other variations, including chocolate. They also offer local honey. Their peanut butter is highly sought after back in the states. So if you're here grab a combo and give it a try, you just might find yourself ordering some online once you've given it a try.

This might be one of the only places in Waikiki open at 4 AM which is perfect if you've just arrived the night before from the East Coast. The inside of the shop feels homey. They have a display case full of pastries along with additional baked goods set out nearby. For my coffee on this morning I decided to go with a coconut latte and then ordered a blueberry malasada while my father went with a custard-filled one. At Maleko, the malasadas are pre-made but not filled until you order which I think is a smart move. I first tried my blueberry malasada and thought it was good. The dough was light and fluffy and the filling had a great flavor. As for my coffee, I have to agree with other reviews that the syrup made it overly sweet. I still drank it, but I definitely would have preferred something less sweet. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again for the malasadas. As for the coffee, I would probably pass unless you prefer your drinks on the sweeter side.

This is the only standing Kulu Kulu and I hope this place does not close, or if it does relocate, come closer to Central Oahu where the rent is cheaper, haha (hint). This location is on the outer edges of Waikiki on Hobron Lane in Eaton Square. I rarely venture to Waikiki, and if I do make the dreaded drive to "town", this place and Kan Sushi will be the only regular places where I will make my stop(s), because its so worth it. I've had a long-standing love-affair with Kulu Kulu from the Shirokiya Food Court location with it's waffle bears and Hello Kitty waffles, the takeout Nama Chocolate cups stocked at Mitsuwa Marketplace and now here, in town. The Ube Coconut Mousse $6.95 blew our minds, it was THE best tasting thing, ever. Both the ube and the coconut were not cloying, and as with all of their treats, not overly sweet either. That's why I love Japanese pastries, they get the sweetness just perfect and I have no idea how they mastermind that ratio! Strawberry Panna Cotta $5.95 was creamy, flavorful, delicious and surprisingly light and refreshing for such a creamy dessert. I normally don't get this kind of combination of flavors, and it tasted like something you'd get in a Michellin-rated establishment. Looking back at the photos, I see vanilla bean seeds in the panna cotta, so every loving detail and nuance shows through with each mouthful. Nama Chocolate $5.75 is my go-to chocolate LOVE. It's cut into cool creamy semi-sweet squares dusted with cocoa and it melts in your mouth! This is my favorite of all things that Kulu Kulu makes. I actually enjoy this better than the famous Royce Chocolates from Japan. We ordered another seasonal Strawberry dessert slice cake but it was eaten before I could review (and/or taste it); I've heard it was very very delicious. This place is so good that I plan to bring my friends who will be visiting from Virginia here to try their pastries. I also plan to support this business for as long as I can and make more frequent trips to town just to get these amazing desserts.
