Dr. Sera was super nice at the consult and then fixed a filling the other dentist did. It is now smooth and solid instead of lumpy and flaking off. He took the time to explain how he would clean my teeth (old and new methods), went through my teeth three times to ensure they were clean, painless (for me), flossed and polished my teeth. Gum exam was painless as well. Throughout the entire time, Dr. Spencer Hiura was calm, held great conversation, and reminded me to let him know if I ever felt any pain. I really appreciated the time (~10-15 min after my cleaning was over) where Dr. Hiura showed me before and after pics, explained how my gums were doing, showed me how to floss and brush to get the areas I was having trouble with, and explained how oral health can impact other parts of your body. I have an extreme gag reflex that often interferes with routine X-rays as well as some procedures. She stays patient, works with me, and finds ways to get the work done. Sometimes she will allow me to sit upright more, even though it makes her access to my mouth more challenging and forces her to stand instead of sit. I often need to have the suction placed differently to avoid the back of my tongue, but she still patiently tries to accommodate me, sometimes waiting until my gag reflex attack subsides a bit. The office also works with us with our dental insurance and tries to make things as easy for us as possible, even though the dental insurance companies are always trying to make things harder for patients and providers.

During that visit, I was told I had four cavities--which completely took me by surprise, as I've never had that many before. Trusting their judgment, I scheduled to have all four filled in the same day. From the moment the new doctor began working on my teeth, it was clear to me she lacked experience. She overfilled my teeth, which left me with an uneven bite and made eating extremely uncomfortable. I had to return the following week to have her fix them. That fix, unfortunately, led to another issue--she over-filed my teeth, and ever since, I've experienced noticeable tooth sensitivity and my newly filled teeth seem to be shorter than before.
