Sancho de res
Jairo T.

Had a great experience on two visits to this Colombian spot in Hamilton. Authentic Colombian vibes, good music and I particularly appreciated how clean everything was. Ordered the sancocho de res and cazuela de frijoles. Both were very tasty! For my soup lovers, hard to pass up the classic sancocho dish. The cazuela was full of flavor -- beans, beef and pork-- what else can you ask for. Food service was quick and the staff was courteous. Would definitely recommend if in the area.

A receipt breakdown.

Beware! I would have given a "Great" rating except for one HIDDEN ISSUE. The food at the restaurant was delicious, the place was immaculate, and the service was good. However, I urge caution when it comes time to settle the bill. I was feeling tired due to a family member in the hospital and didn't review the receipt carefully. I was informed prior that I would be charged extra for paying by credit card and was charged $3.14 for using it, which has become the norm in many restaurants--I can accept that. However, I was surprised to find a gratuity charge included without my permission or knowledge (for two patrons). I hadn't noticed the additional charge of $13.14. When I received the final credit card merchant and customer receipt, the "TIP AMOUNT" field was blank. I assumed I hadn't paid a tip so I added $15.00. I was careless in not reviewing it more carefully. In the future, please, if your establishment tacks a gratuity either include the tip amount and inform the patron or cross out the blank tip line, as already included. This is a deceptive tactic. I want my tip back. Otherwise, it truly would be an excellent establishment.

Passion fruit dessert (good!)

It's a relatively unassuming space; we went during the week, so it wasn't super crowded, but we had a good time there together. I can't recall exactly what I ordered, but the shared items and drinks and food were all delicious, and I would be down to return! Hope to order again from them in the future, or to visit again!

The soups as soon as you open the containers, makes you gag. Look at the color of the chicken. (BLACK and Raw). Then they claim that their empanadas taste like Puerto Rico. Sorry to tell you, your empanadas are not even close to a puertorrican empanada. There's no seasoning on the meat. Like you just opened a bag of ground beef, put it in the pan and that's it. I actually came here on a whim with my parents (who are very picky eaters and prefer Colombian food more than anything), and they were very satisfied! They have plates for really any palate, from baked goods to full meals, you will find something delicious. We happen to come on a Sunday morning and ordered smoothies (strawberry ones) to start our meals. A bit on the sweet side, but you can absolutely ask for a bit less sugar. The meal that seemed the most popular was a big chicken soup. My dad got it and was in love. It seemed like a good hangover cure, if u were looking around at the guys dragging around with long faces. We also go a tipical breakfast which included beans, eggs, rice and meat. This is very similar to a Colombian calentado, and it was a huge hit for my mom. Hubby and I shared an order of pupusas, crispy, delcious and hit the spot! All the meals were large enough to share, which we did along side some pastries, coffees and smoothies. The only star I am taking off is because the outside is super shady looking and for a while I thought it was a bar and hesistated to go in. Also, service took pretty long on menu items that weren't on their buffet. Overall, all of us left with full and happy bellies! I would absolutely come back again.

Admittedly, I have not travelled to Ecuador and am not familiar with their food, but looking through the menu, it looked very much like the Mexican/Guatemaltecan/Dominican dishes I have come to thoroughly enjoy. The house looks much as it did when it was slinging slices and cheesesteaks, minus the ovens. There are tables along the walls with counter toward the rear. Our server was a friendly woman who spoke some English, so along with my rusty Spanish, we had no problems ordering. My co-worker went with the Mojarra Frita (Fried Whole Fish), and I asked for the Sopes Al Pastor (Grilled Pork Marinated in Pineapple Juice on Tortilla). The fish was breaded and deep fried to a slightly past golden brown, with salad on the side. The flesh was easily separated from the bone, it was white and still moist. The breading was crunchy with a mild spicy flavor. While knife and fork made quick work of the effort, it was also necessary to pick up some of the pieces in order to allow teeth and tongue to get at the smaller morsels. It was a very tactile experience. Tasty. The Sopes were three thick tortillas about 3 inches in diameter, with the pork and chilies resting on top, and a large amount of cut lettuce with creamy cheese sauce above that. It was impossible to see the meat when the plate arrived. While it was a very full plate, the over abundance of greens atop the rather limited amount of tasty pork, and the chewy base, made the gestalt top heavy. It became more of a salad, than integrated open face experience. The Blackberry Milk Shake was excellent, especially @ $3. I will return to Two Flags to find out what is particularly Ecuadoran in the house, as our meals and the menu seemed more Central American.

All of the appetizers were great, and can be spilt with friends: -Quesadillas -Calamari -Nachos -Plantain w| Cheese The plantain with melted cheese was such a treat, glad we tried it. If you're looking for the perfect savory, sweet, and non-sweet balanced combination of flavor this is the one! The nachos were tasty, just your traditional melted cheese, ground beef, salsa, sour cream, and guac. The quesadilla's were soft and grilled well (not hard or over cooked). The calamari is not the original smaller squid like pieces with tentacles still attached, it's more so chopped into rings and served with a red sauce. Not sure if they have garlic aioli mayo or not, ask your server. The inside is a vibe, with one side being a full restaurant, and the other side being a smaller room with a full bar, tables, and DJ Booth set up. It's a great place to meet up for dinner with friends! There's music playing inside but not so loud that you can't have a conversation which is great. There is a free parking lot in the back of the building. The menu's are on ipad's which we loved! Enjoy!!

Unfortunately they only had one waitress working the 15 or so outdoor tables on a busy night when I went. On top of that, the kitchen was understaffed. Half of our food came out 1.5 hours after ordering, and the rest a half hour after that. I don't fault the waitress who was clearly overwhelmed and could not keep up with the barrage of people asking about their food and drink orders. When we asked for glasses of water, the waitress told us they don't have water available. First time I've been refused water at a restaurant. The DJ working couldn't decide whether he wanted to play music, the Ecuador-Colombia match, or nothing at all. There were constant crackling and popping sounds from the sound system every time he adjusted something. Food itself was just okay. My Colombian tamale was full of fatty pieces of beef and chicken. The guacamole on the "Catador delight" (tostone with guac and shrimp) was not fresh; the shrimp was overcooked. Corn tortillas were listed for half the items on the menu, but they said they only have flour tortillas available. There are better places for dinner and drinks around, and I don't think the food is worth ordering for takeout. Catador is the third restaurant/bar to occupy the space in recent years, and I don't see them lasting long with how poorly run it is.
