I was in Encinitas for vacation and pulled my back right as I landed at the airport. I could barely walk/move without being in excruciating pain. I had a busy week of theme parks and zoos planned with my toddler, so I called around trying to get a same day appointment somewhere for a massage. By some miracle, Mark was able to see my same day. Matt is exceptional, warm, and talented and does powerful work well beyond just putting in needles. The best massage work I have ever received was from Michael Rubano. I no longer live in California and don't know if he's still at Encinitas Acupuncture and Massage, but his work -- especially his bodywork (Feldenkrais-Esque) was life-changing. If he is still there -- go see him. I think Michael has a book, Intelligent Flexibility -- and a youtube video as well. Check them out. This place is awesome. Everyone is really good. They've been in the community for over 25 years. A wide variety of specialties at this place, there are over twelve therapists who each have their own unique training and regions of specialties. But their goal is simple: they want to heal people. But they're not too airy-fairy about it, which is nice. The mood is a lot like a clinic, in that there is a reception desk and a waiting room, but the mood is pleasant, and there is a big water fixture. Everyone is really professional, and each therapist (there are over 12) has a unique set of skills to meet your needs: They have acupuncture, massage (Natch) as well as a chiropractor, and sometimes they have facialists, hypnotherapists (to get rid of that nasty smoking habit, perhaps), family counseling, etc. Just give them a call. Some of the other treatments that I've had: Hot rocks oil massage, Thai Massage, deep tissue, muscle repatterning, Tui Na, trigger point, EFT, Tuning Table, Nutritional guidance, Cranial Sacral, etc. The price is great, I mean, $75 for an hour of massage from someone with twenty years of experience? For five years a tingle in my pinkie became a raging nerve pain that no chiropractor, hand surgeon, occupational therapist, Feldenkrais practitioner or MD could solve. I turned to Wesley Boyce and his acupuncture as another step down the road of promising myself I'd resolve this nearly constant pain. Francine, one of the best massage therapists I've ever met, also worked with Wes to identify that the pain was an impinged nerve and that it came from the way I've been sleeping for 54 years. They worked with me to get my neck and body supported at night, do deep tissue massages, and acupuncture with stimulation. Within three sessions, Wes had taken my pain from a 10 to a 2. Within weeks it was nearly gone except for some random "phantom" pain. It is still sensitive if I bang it... but it's not aching all day and keeping me up at night. I am on the path to completely eradicating this pain from my life! And as a writer, my hands need to be on the keyboard, not sidelined from pain. All those doctors. All those years. All that pain. I recently had a massive shoulder problem. The pain came on suddenly and was extremely painful. I had no range of motion and not even pain killer eased the discomfort. Being a competitive horse trainer I was terrified at what was happening to me. Not being able to use my arm at all meant I couldn't work . Matt Szymczak is a gifted practitioner and has really helped me and my family with a variety of health issues from emotional to physical. He is gifted in all aspect of chinese medicine and also specializes in orthopedic issues, although I've rarely seen him for that (he's been great with everything else!). Also, they sell various supplements and herbs. the Chinese herb pills and tea that stop a cold in its tracks is not only very affordable, it's effective. I never thought I would/could give an acupuncture place a 5-star rating because I am so deathly afraid of needles, but when my neck pain got so bad, Donna healed me without pain and fear!!!! This place is a great find and from what I understand, many of the therapists have been there for decades. I saw Donna for a 1 hour acupuncture/massage session and she was very knowledgeable, experienced and gentle. My neck feels 100x better and I will be back! I had a really powerful deep tissue massage and acupuncture treatment with Wes Boyce last week. The entire week was hugely transformative for me, and it started with my holistic treatment with Wes. I had quite a release of long held tension in my upper back/rhomboid area. It was sore for a few days after but I've been enjoying more freedom and energy flow in my upper body. Fabulous place. I've been going here for almost 2 years. I've very active, and therefore injury myself sooner or later and the therapists here are really able to help you heal. I also have tendinosis, and they do wonders with my pain managment. Sometimes I'll try and go to other massage places for deals and groupons to save money, and honestly no one compares to the massages here. I always end up back here. I seen Mark , Francine, and Kristianne (sp) all who have been the best. They are therapists that know what they are doing! I've also seen Dr. Kelly for B12 shots, such a sweet kind person who doesn't upsale you on anything, He just cares about you and your health. To add, his sterile techniques are super. Always uses new needles, draws from the vitamin serum bottle with a new needle, then caps that tosses, and uses a brand new needle for the actual shot. I've seen other places draw straight from the bottle with a new needle and then go straight into your skin. So I can appreciate the care in keeping things sterile. I've also gone in to see Wes for acupuncture and bodywork. He's very good and his body work is fantastic For your overall wellness, I wouldn't recommend anywhere else. read more
