Went to the Encinitas cafe before my wedding dress fitting a couple of days ago. The food was ok and it was hard to get the server to come take our check or check up on us in general. If you are looking for a "cafe style" then I say go for it here, but Encinitas has a lot more to offer. read more

This is a very strange old-school cafe that I think has been here since the hill billy days. At least that is what it looks like inside. You can get your typical diner dishes but it is way over-priced for what you get. The food is okay and the wait staff is as old as the joint. It hasn't ever been decorated and could use a good make-over. They do have great French Fries. read more

Sometimes you just want "Granny Style" food and this is where to get it! Who needs atmosphere when your in this state of mind crave. Food is great! I love the bean and ham soup. All food is just like grandma's. You must try the turkey stuffing! They fry it on the grill like a pancake. So savory. Stick to your ribs good eats! It was my first time in Encinitas, and this place was one of the top 3 breakfast place on yelp. I had the eggs with country fried steak with gravy. The eggs and hashbrowns were great, but the gravy didn't taste too good and didn't match well with the steak. The place was packed and busy the whole time I was there. I just got a pedicure and was walking down the street and saw this place. It looked busy so I went in to try it. I got the avocado benidict. The egg was way over cooked but the flavor was good. From NJ and loved this place. sat at the counter and was starving but someone was with me right away and gave me my fruit ahead while i waited :) Not sure if they were busy or i was hungry, or both, but the food took a littttle while. but not bad, i saw a ton of tickets in the window so they were probably slammed and the fruit helped. it was thoughtful of her and not everyone would do that. i've heard not too many places in SD have HASH BROWNS but Encintas Cafe does and they were just like the Jersey ones. Our coworkers talked this place up, so we thought we'd give it a go on a Sunday morning. Service is really nice and it feels very "homie". Pancakes and home fries are decent, the breakfast burritos are truly horrendous though. Literally a scrambled egg, strip of bacon, and a slice of melted cheddar. Big let down. It was just ok as far as breakfast goes....I had a French toast special with eggs...it was so so and a bit over priced. My husband had biscuits and gravy....again it was so so. We have been going to the Cafe on Date Nights starting in 2003 and have enjoyed the food and the staff. But there have been changes in the food recently that are not posted on the menu. The fried Chicken Dinners in the past came with a breast, thigh, leg, wing but recently it has been coming with two thighs and maybe a wing or a leg. Also the Ham and Bean soup is starting to taste bland and where it had flavor and spice it has none. Last night we found that there no longer chocolate cake on the desert menu but now cupcakes have replaced that item and they seemed a little dense and dry. Perhaps a change in the way the cooks are operating or the fact that the older owner has stepped back from the operation and given his daughter the running of the cafe has caused this change. read more

I hate to leave a bad review but I just had the worst huevos ranchero breakfast ever. I looked back at a previous reviewer who commented that everything tasted like it was from a can and that review was spot on. The beans were about 75% of the dish and tasted like they were from a can of hormel chili... seriously! I ate the egg and left everything else. The waitress saw that I was not eating it and asked if she could bring me something else, as I had been poaching on my wife's breakfast I wasn't super hungry but asked if she could bring some home fries and salsa, unfortunately the potatoes were not completely cooked and the salsa had "gone off". It was a total disaster. My wife's egg and pancakes were fine and the service was good. We had been there on a couple of other occasions and the breakfasts were OK but the huevos rancheros was prepared with such a lack of care that we won't be back, there are too many other great breakfast spots in Encinitas. read more

Dinner was at the Encinitas Cafe last night. It reminds one of going into Grandma's kitchen, very clean and well cared for. If you love nostalgia, this is the place for you. The food was the best quality of homemade fare you are likely to find anywhere. I enjoyed the chicken friend steak with corn, mashed potatoes and lots of gravy which sent me back to memories of childhood. My friend had the roast turkey which looked like Thanksgiving on a plate. It was a meal to remember and a place to which I will return many times over. read more

I was thinking typical cafe food, like sante fe cafe. But WOW. I mean WOW. This place delivered a huge plate of hot goodness! Both of us got the Encinitas Special, 2 eggs, *i got ham* he got a side of potatoes, and a delish stack of oatcakes. I was a little skeptical of the whole oatcake and applesauce ordeal. I mean DAMN. Perfectly runny eggs all over the place, and delish oatcakes that made me think that pancake house needs to note. They were fluffy and full of good flavor, especially teamed up with the applesauce! I've been coming here since I moved to Encinitas. The food is homestyle cooked food and always delicious. I get the encinitas special with two blueberry pancakes with bacon and eggs over medium. The fruit they use for their pancakes are always fresh and perfectly ripe. They also have a notable club sandwich that really hits the spot! They have options for breakfast, lunch and dinner and they also have health-conscious choices which i like! this place is also very convenient for me because its down the street from my house and in the heart of downtown encinitas. read more

Cane here for a quick bite to eat. I love coming to small cafes and I was not disappointed. Service was quick and coffee fresh, nothing fancy just simple coffee. I orderes the club sandwich on wheat with a side salad. The salad was great and sandwich was exceptional. The turkey wasn't thin slices like you get at most places, but thick carved slices.. great experience and if I was in the area again I would be back for more. read more

Went to some of the more expensive breakfast places in the area during my stay, and I have to say this beat them all, hands down. Service was excellent and the place was clean. It amazes me that some newer places don't consider cleanliness a priority. I always consider the cleanliness of a place as a window to the kitchen. The restaurant was busy but had a table available right away. Ordered the corned beef hash with eggs, toast and potatoes. The hash was a tad salty for my palate, but overall it was very good, nonetheless. Pricing was on point and the portions were plentiful. I'll definitely be back. read more

Super cute location, alright service (she could have been a bit more engaging, but it was really early) and easy parking. Oh my goodness! So delicious. Classic egg slinging diner with giant portion sizes and that home style feel. I got the side of hash browns which was a full stacked plate and the biscuits and gravy. Gravy was flavorful and the biscuit was oddly sweetish and it went well with the gravy. My boyfriend got classic pancakes with eggs and bacon. Again, lots of food. Bacon was completely crisp yet somehow not burnt. This is local eatery that tourists come to. Bland hearty all American fare the stand out is the acai scoop! That's right scoop! Served cold just like ice cream on a bed of granola , mango and strawberries this is the dish. Never seen acai served like this anywhere and it's good. Staff is adorable. read more
