Xtra Fitness is a studio that is so much better than any of the others in the area around here. Not…read moreonly is it better; it is different, unique, and unusual. But you might not believe me, so let me begin by convincing you that I know well what I'm talking about: I'm Jeff G., a retired English teacher, and I have been working out at Xtra Fitness for 10 years now. And my workouts include doing between two and three sessions daily: circuit-training sessions; personal fitness training workouts; pilates work on the Reformer; and spinning classes on the stationary bikes. I have dropped 30 pounds since I started working out at Xtra Fitness 10 years ago; and I'm in the best shape I've ever been in. Oh! Almost forgot to mention: I just celebrated my 77th birthday. So, yes, I know Xtra Fitness studio well: its owners and trainers; its routines, advantages, and offerings; its ability to make you and your fitness level significantly 'new and improved'; and the list of benefits goes on and on for mega-miles. Xtra Fitness is not one of those corporate organizations that has 200 branches in 300 cities where you pay your money and take your chances, where you're working out alone together with 400 other nameless patrons. No, Xtra Fitness is a single studio owned and operated by Steve and Vanessa, both of whom are sincerely dedicated to improving their patrons' fitness levels, and wonderfully knowledgeable in the art and science of personal fitness training. Steve knows 87 different ways to exercise every muscle group. The variety of exercises he designs and uses in the circuit-training sessions keeps the sessions interesting, challenging, and fun. You'll find the circuit-training to be wonderfully worthwhile, and you'll quickly get into a routine of coming often and making the circuits an exercise habit. Vanessa is a sports-fitness machine. She is sincere and passionate about maintaining her own fitness and promoting fitness in others. And she is certified in so many aspects of personal fitness and sports medicine. The only certifications she doesn't hold are those that haven't been invented yet. Wait'll you start working with Vanessa in pilates on the Reformer. She'll improve your balance and flexibility, and you'll notice the changes quickly. I certainly did. And Vanessa is the most sensational instructor for the spinning classes on the stationary bikes. She's fun and demanding, encouraging you to do more than you think you can and making you feel good about it all. And talk about burning calories and body fat! At the end of the spinning sessions, I find I've lost almost half my body-weight...or, at least, it feels that way. It's a great feeling of accomplishment. This past year, of course, has been difficult for gyms and fitness studios because of the Covid crisis. Everyone has been afraid to work out for fear of getting those virus cooties, but the gyms - and Xtra Fitness, too - are opening up again and are welcoming patrons. I've been encouraged and reassured to keep coming to Xtra Fitness this past year because I have seen 'up close and personal' how careful Steve and Vanessa are with maintaining the studio's cleanliness. They keep a clean and safe environment with hospital grade cleaning supplies and sanitizers; they follow the updated government requirements to keep their members safe; and they keep the equipment at Xtra sanitized and disinfected at all times. For all these reasons, I recommend Xtra Fitness to you highly. And when you come in, be sure to ask Steve and Vanessa "Where's Jeff?" because I'll very likely be right there working through the circuit-training session, or doing one of many exercises during my personal-training hour with Steve; or I might be in the room next door stretched out on the Reformer or spinning my legs off on the stationary bike. But I will be there, just as I've been there for the past 10 years. And I'll be happy to meet you. It's a great place to work out and get in shape. Believe me, I know.

With the different options available throughout the day and classes offered everyday of the week, I find myself motivated to go almost everyday. I found my love of pure barre first at the Bellevue location almost 15 years ago. Then I waited over 10 years for one to open in the north end after I moved up here (Barre3 is just not the same). I was excited when they finally opened in Mill Creek in late 2023. I was disappointed when they closed under the previous ownership shortly after opening. Katie, the new owner is amazing. She is an active owner who also teaches at all the locations. Hearing that she already owned the Eastside locations and those two locations were thriving, I was hopeful that the Mill Creek and Lynnwood locations would have a successful reopening. She really pushes you to continuously push harder and reminds you of why you are there and to not cheat yourself in your workout. The teachers there are the best. If you're looking for somewhere to go where everyone knows your name, this is the place! The staff and atmosphere are so fun and inviting.

We've tried many different programs and instructors, and my daughter just hasn't "taken" to the water. For this reason I canceled my me ever that just signed up for and paid the registration fee (over $500 Which includes the membership fee). So basically I have been told that if I would have contacted them before the 25th of the month, they could have refunded the membership fee but not that we are past it nothing can happen. If ever I would like to sign up again, I would still have to pay $200. This seems like a rip off and my kid come here for his classes and I come here for my beginner classes as well. Seems like it doesn't matter about customer satisfaction for them. They will Include any rule to make sure they are getting the money. Again, I like individuals here. But as business they definitely suck. I would not recommend being a member here cause as long as you are remember, you are fine but other than that it's a loss of money for you. Many would argue that I should have read terms and condition (which is in benefits to the club) but circumstances arise where you are an advocate to yourself. Be careful to becoming their member because it is a rip off, you may not know it just yet.

She encouraged all of us to be playful and learn to understand and use our bodies better. She took time to listen to any history of injury, and tailored instruction to those that needed it, and offered helpful insights. You park out front, then walk through the breezeway, the turn right to take the stairs up to the studio. The front door is kinda around back from the main street, if that makes sense. The studio was not heated when I went. There are great props (straps and blocks are high quality and in good shape). A great place to make progress and celebrate all you are and can be capable of.

In fact, I've got range-of-motion issues in my upper body, so the thought of trying to be all athletic - in front of other people no less - was intimidating. I'd heard that yoga could eventually help me move without pain, so I sucked it up and started trying out studios. Of the many I've been to since, there are 3 that stand out. Yoga in the Center is one such standout. The studio itself is very spa-like in feel. It's all light walls, stone, & dark wood, with plenty of natural light. They have two practice rooms - a main room and a smaller one for prenatal and kid's yoga. I've only taken classes in the big room - it's very spacious, and the studio has a lot of props available for students to use as needed. It's lovely and comfortable. For me, what really makes the place are the teachers. I have been to studios where the teachers seemed frustrated with my inability to get myself into perfect alignment. I get it - I look like an amazon woman, therefore I *should* be strong enough to hold the pose. If my shoulders won't move that way, well, I should just try harder, and maybe one day I'll get it. Here, the teachers are encouraging, and helpful. The very first class I took with Carrie, she noticed me struggling and popped over to offer me a prop and an alternate version of the pose. I've learned so much from her. I've found that everyone here is really great at teaching to the whole class. When their schedule says All-levels, that's what they mean. The teacher will show different expressions of the pose so everyone can choose the version that works with their body - no judgment. Do be aware - Mill Creek Town Center is a busy place, and it can take a bit to find a parking spot in the evenings or on weekends. The studio is well worth planning in a little extra parking time. =)
