If it wasn't much of a loss, I would be ok with just helping the environment but it is a huge cost. We are using less electricity now than were then (fewer people living here and we are gone from the home approx 2 months a year), and still when adding the lump sum payment due to REU annually and the payments on the remaining $18,000 owed of the $40,000, we were much better off with no solar. And to add insult to injury, the system stops working every year (which you have to monitor). Save yourself the cost and instead make a generous contribution to an environmental charity and you'll come out better financially and your donation will help the cause of saving the environment in a more effective manner.
