I had never owned a home with solar panels before and wanted the system checked out. The technician seemed competent and stated the system was in working order with a water intrusion issue with my inverter that may cause an issue in the future. I noted that and he asked if I'd like a maintenance plan with discount off of the inspection. He said all in it would be $250 (inspection plus maintenance plan) which includes a free cleaning. Since the technician stated the panels were dirty, I thought this was a good idea. Not once did the technician state there was a timing requirement on the free cleaning. My mistake for assuming I could get this immediately. And how did I learn that I'd have to wait 11 months to get my free cleaning, which was needed per my inspection? Remember the inverter with water intrusion? I guess they thought I was an easy mark now as I received multiple calls and emails about my inverter. Given a $5700 quote. My reply was: "well let me see how you do my free cleaning first before I order the expension repair. How do I order that?" "Oh, you have to wait 11 months and if we have availability" Boom, there it is...I fell for a scam maintenance agreement. Damn, I thought I was smarter than that but my first time owning a solar system combined with the referral from my RE Agent made me susceptible. Now I will have to do a Yelp quote from one of the many highly rated solar cleaning countries and dispute these charges on my credit card bill. Because not only did I get charged the upfront fee, but they are also charging me a monthly fee. I have a call in to Energy Aid and I will update this review when I receive follow up and hopefully resolution. At this stage, not recommended. read more

I paid $848 for onboarding (inspection, panel cleaning, and installation of a monitoring device), plus $29/month for their Premium monitoring service. In March, my system stopped producing entirely. I did not receive any alert or notification. I discovered the outage myself on April 1 through the monitoring app. After contacting EnergyAid, I was asked to reboot the inverter and provide a photo of the error ("Riso Low"). No on-site visit or diagnostic testing was scheduled. Instead, I received a $5,300 quote for a "battery-ready" inverter replacement and a full system rewire, without a documented root-cause analysis or detailed scope of work. After clarifying that I wasn't planning to add a battery and only wanted to address the specific fault, I was given a second estimate of $3,300-$4,200. This second estimate also did not include an on-site diagnostic, root-cause explanation, or itemized breakdown, despite my request for one. I asked whether standard electrical troubleshooting (including insulation testing) could be performed to identify the issue before proceeding with a major repair. I was informed that this level of diagnostic work is outside their service scope. Shortly after, EnergyAid refunded two months of membership fees and ended the service relationship. All good up to this point, however this is where I became disgusted. Ishaq Shariff (sales rep) called me and told me for the total repairs it would cost $4700! Oh, and if I became a member it would only be $3900. Oh and by the way the repair was not a microinverter, not a panel...it was a plug that I found online for $20! Plug that needed repair shown below. I had some words telling Ishaq that they are taking advantage of people and that if they had just changed the plug there and then, I would keep them as a solar maintenance company moving forward. Then he has the audacity to email me again and knock the price down with a "managers discount" to $1,898.00! Again the plug price is $20. So you are telling me even with the new price it costs to pay a technician $1,878.00 ($4,680 with the old price) to drive to me from Santa Ana, CA. Then turn off the system, climb up the ladder, unscrew the panel, replace the plug, screw back down the panel and turn the system on again. That costs $1,878+$20 part?!?!?! Anyways I did it for $20 and 20 minutes and system works great now. So this company takes advantage of what seems at first overwhelming. But after reading and research is easy and straight forward. I politely declined as I did not want to be bait and switched. After that, they called me five different times (all new call reps). On the 4th call, I told the person that if they called again I would write a bad review. I got the 5th call, and here I am. If I get another one, they will see another bad review on other sites. Energy Aid. I had two contractors come before before Energy Aid did. and review my system, and they found that there was leaks in my roof from inside my house. Caused by bad installmentThey also found out that the system was facing the wrong way and not producing the right wattage with 20 panels.. the person from Energy Aid. Did not point out the specifics of my problem.. and they charged me $400 for a diagnostic job that was inconsistent with the other two professional. In two weeks of calling them every day trying to talk to a supervisor I was never able to.. they just kept on brushing me off unfortunately when it came to me, they were inconsistent and I wouldn't advise them for anybody. You would think the days of unscrupulous solar businesses would be gone but unfortunately they're not. We initially thought they were a good choice. The rep showed up on time, extensively inspected the system and arrived at the same conclusion as we did, the inverter was not working. I had already spoken with the manufacturer and was aware of what needed to be done. I had also spoken with a different rep at EnergyAid who explained the process. Things went awry when Daisy got involved. She slapped on a charge in excess of $2,600 for something that was NOT needed. When we called to cancel, she tried to say there aopeared to be a misunderstanding...not when the paperwork had the price written on it and I asked if it was optional and she said no. We found Energy aid via a Google search where they had good reviews. They are also one of the few solar contractors who specialize in repair and maintenance of ALL solar installations. Our experience was great! Our appointment was a 4 hour window 8:00am-12:00. Anthony ( our service technician ) called at 7:45am and said he was outside. GREAT! He took a photo survey of our house and all of the solar existing conditions. He noted Our inverter was showing an " Arc fault". During the course of his diagnostic, he found a loose wire in the DC switch . "That could be the cause of the Fault" he said. He went on the roof and checked all the wiring and the Photovoltaic panels. Said they needed to be cleaned. He reset the Inverter and lo and behold, it worked! Problem solved! I have a solar system that was installed by a company that is now out of business ( Titan Solar), so I contacted the manufacturer of the equipment, SolarEdge who put me in contact with a solar contractor in my area : EnergyAid. They told me for $300 they would come diagnose the issue, and that $300 would then be applied to any repair needing done. fair enough, I asked them to do the inspection. They traced it to the solar meter, and sure enough there was a wire in there that arced and melted. Then came the quote. They proceeded to quote me $5210 for the repair, minus the $300... oh... and if I signed up for their monthly monitoring for a 1 time fee of $99 and $10 a month, they would knock off another $300. So $4810. This seemed awfully high for what SMUD ( who came and unlocked the solar meter for me, said was an easy repair and "good news". So I contacted an electrician who had done work for me in the past and I trusted. He found the part I needed replaced. ( a Siemens meter can) part cost: $92.10. A city permit $86 and the electrician doing the repair? $400 (part and labor) so $486 not $4810. This company feels like a bait and switch operation. Pay $300 and we will credit it back to your repair, except the repair price is SO RIDICULOUS no one ( or at least not me) would pay 10X the cost! Or maybe someone would, and it's just robbery. And for me, they get to keep my $300. Doesn't seem right. (Also, lesson learned, if I had called SMUD first, they would have opened the meter and I would have found the problem for free.. and then probably would have called the electrician. ) read more

Our solar panels system is over 11 years old. That being said, it is no longer under warranty, and our original installer no longer has a business presence in Los Angeles. Our solar panels stopped working the other week and our SunnyBoy inverter showed "Arc Fault" in the window. What we went through to repair our Arc Fault is a learning lesson which I would like to pass on to others. 1) We first went thru Google and Yelp looking for SOLAR REPAIR and SOLAR PANELS REPAIR. Google says to find a C10 electrician, but we found out that C10 does not necessarily mean they know how to repair solar panels systems. And the fact that most (if not all) electricians now charge a fee just to come out and look at your problem, we went through 2 electricians at $99 each and never got the problem fixed. 2) What we also found out, all of the companies that say they are solar repair, are in fact solar panels installation companies who are in the business of selling solar panels systems to homeowners. Very few are actually REPAIR companies. As most installers or companies install and give a warranty, they usually are there for their previous customers fulfilling their warranties or fixing their complaints. 3) One of the "scams" we experienced twice is that a company will come out to "repair," but all do after looking around is a REPORT giving you options on how to fix what they perceive to be the problem. Whether you need new, upgraded panels, a new inverter, or re-wiring, it goes on and on, and you never know if they really know the actual problem or if it's just easier/safer to sell you a new, state.of.the.art installed system with a new warranty. I read this in several Yelp Reviews, and I commiserate with people who went thru this! 4) By the time Energy Aid came out, and I might add, for a $299 visit, we were a little more educated and had more information from the previous repair companies who had come out. But again, another lesson: not every repairman gets it right! I think we lucked out getting Anthony from Energy Aid. He went thru EVERYTHING, and to his credit, unscrewed everything too. Where two previous repairmen said it wasn't the inverter, Anthony found a loose wire in our inverter, tightened it, reset it, and it started working! It is an old inverter, and he said he didn't know how long it would last, but this is for another day. At least he got it working and we're grateful that Anthony was thorough and knowledgeable to actually troubleshoot+fix our problem. 5) Like I said, maybe luck played a part in this. But we'll pass on our "luck" to you by recommending you ask for Anthony to come out to be your repairperson if you're experiencing a problem such as ours. Last thought: Yes, $299 is a lot of money upfront where you don't even know if they can fix your problem. Another "repair" company I called wanted $500 which they said they would credit back $300 if you bought a system from them. This just binds you more to using a particular solar company; I can't understand the reasoning in this. I would NOT go to such a company. Horrible company, The manufacturer of my solar panel system, contacted energy aid and told them my system had a battery fault, Energy Aid contacted me and said we can check out your battery fault and submit proper paper work to the manufacturer for repairs(warr). So the reason they were coming out was to diagnose the faulty battery for $249.00. Service tech came out inspected battery, found battery at fault, then received another call that now they need another $2100.00 to diagnose the battery, Which was the reason for the first service call of $249.00. That the service advisor told me they would find the issue, This is absolute robbery. $249.00 is more than enough for diagnostics of a battery. read more

Just called this company out to do a work up on our system since our solar company is out of business. We paid the $299 for the "maintenance/monitoring package" for them to tell us our inverter is bad and that it would cost us $2800 to replace just that. And our inverter is covered under warranty, so the part is free. So all we need is just be labor to install the replacement part. We monitor our panels/production via the manufacturers site and know when we have an error or when production is off. They can also run a diagnostic on our system for us via that same app. And being that I work in the construction industry this is just unacceptable, a total rip off of paying customers. When I questioned why their labor was so high they told me, three sept times, it was because THEY NEEDED TO SEND TWO TECHS because the inverter was over 50 pounds (safety) so they charged $1,300 for the additional tech. I have had multiple issues with EnergyAid from (Dec 2024) them drilling holes into my house main power box from the outside of the panel which hit some power wires going to multiple rooms of my house as well as hitting the wires going to the inverter which fried it. They finally fixed their mess up in June 25 with replacing the inverter with a new one that was a lower wattage then the one they replace. The tech that did the work had no care to the side of my house with almost leaving without replacing multiple holes he put in with finding studs as well as every mount he put in the wall is falling out and very loose. I have sent the company multiple emails trying to address this but no response. read more

They quoted a price for an electrical box/disconnect switch removal and replacement and we were able to get it done by another company for less than 10% of what EnergyAid quoted. Out of the blue, I received a threatening email and phone call from them stating they are going to put a lien on my house and start foreclosure processes because I owe them for warranty work that they performed on behalf of Sunpower 7 months earlier. Apparently Sunpower never paid them and now with Sunpower filing for bankruptcy they are reaching out directly to Sunpower customers for payments. I never directly hired them and we never discussed costs for the warranty work they performed on my system. I provided them evidence that their visit to fix my solar system did not address the problems and they occurred again within 30 days. Found this company because of Solar Edge's "qualified service" companies. However, they were anything but. The customer rep I worked lied to me from minute one and continued to lie to me for months. Started by stating they would do a "thorough investigation of my system." They did not do so since after months of contact, three separate visits, and $3K spent, they didn't find 5 downed optimizers which was the ultimate cause of 8 panels being offline. The rep claimed I didn't have a "layout plan" and tried to charge me $4K for it. I had one and got it through Solar Edge. The rep then tried to tell me the layout plan DID exist but it was erroneous because of mislabled serial numbers on optimizers. The rep claimed after charging $1.7K for replacing ONE optimizer, that the other 8 downed panels would all be fixed if I spent $1K to have all 16 panels wired together. This did nothing and I got none of my money back because their "expert" gave me a terrible recommendation. After demanding the tec who wired all the panels together review the 8 optimizers on the downed panels, ONLY THEN did they determine 5 of them were down. The rep only stated that now they'd do the photos for free and only give a 10% discount on labor. This is something they should have determined on the first visit and after the $330 initial fee, not after spending $3,000 on things that did not fix my system. After this, I decided to become a self-installer and replace the optimizers myself (literally disconnect the old one, connect the new one). I checked all 8 solar panel optimizer serial numbers, and they were all matching the layout plan that Solar Edge sent to me as mentioned earlier, thus confirming Solar Edge's rep lied to me the entire time and was bilking me for money. One more thing to add, they tried to steal 5 optimizers from Solar Edge. After Energy Aid opened the RMA for the 5 optimizers, I notified them I was going in a different direction and never authorized them to finish the RMA which I was notified still needed photos to close out. Without contacting me, they finalized the RMA and had the optimizers shipped to them. I had to contact Solar Edge to re-route the optimizers that were mine in order to get them. So not only they are fradulent, they also tried to steal inventory. So I only wasted $3,000 on this company of liars and would have needed to spend over $10K for them to get the job done completely. Thankfully I just figured out how to do everything myself and will never contact this company again. I should have only spent 2K and had 9 panels fixed. I spent 3K and had only ONE panel fixed. I called and tried to get help. No response. I called Sun Power after waiting at home for my appointment for their 4 hour window and the tech said he completed the job. Excessive pricing and still didn't complete job. Installed wrong items. Then wanted to charge even more for addition diagnostics. Stay away!!!! Rip off artists. Worst experience with any trade in my life. read more

I had an inspection of my solar system done by Energy Aid. The first issue I got is with the inspection scheduled: It was scheduled on a Friday between 12pm and 4pm. Around 2pm I got a text message saying something like "good news you can schedule an appointment for an inspection". That message looked weird since I already had an appointment scheduled with them. I contacted the company and talked to 4 different people and got different excuses about the technician not coming on that day. Finally the dispatcher manager was able to find a technician in my area to come at 4:30pm. The technician came and was very friendly and checked everything. The technician told me that everything was working fine and that my system was producing very well. I paid the fee of $299 and he left. I got the inspection report on the next Thursday. In that report they didn't report any issues and there was details about what was checked, the results and many pictures. The next week a sales person contacted me to go over the inspection. I asked that person if they could help me to be able to connect on my system with the manufacturer app: the original solar company that installed my system in 2016 went bankrupt a few years ago so I didn't have any more access to monitor my system. That sales person looked at what could be done and called me back a few days later with some quotes. He said that in order to get communication with my system that they will have to install a new cell card on the inverter and it will cost around $3500. He also gave me another quote with a promotion for a new inverter since my inverter is almost 10 years old. With that new inverter the wireless connection will be included and it would be around $6500. I was very surprise with the high price just to be able to communicate with my system through the app. In those quotes he also said that they will need to change some connections that were defective. This was new to me and I asked him why it was not in the inspection report. He said that it was in an internal note. He could not answer me why it was not in the inspection report and I told him that the technician said that everything was working fine. I did research on the web and I saw that it is possible to connect the inverter with a physical network cable to my router. I talked to the manufacturer to see if I could connect with their app and they said that I need to make business with a new solar company in order for them to proceed for the connection to be given to me. I talked back to Energy Aid sale person and asked for a quote to have a network cable connected to my box and after 2 weeks he didn't give me a quote. I went back on the manufacturer website and saw that they had an online form to request to transfer site to another house owner and I tried that even though it was not a changed of owner but rather that the original solar company was not in business anymore. I paid $99 for that service from the manufacturer and I was finally able to connect to my solar system! In the manufacturer app I saw that my system was producing and that 1 solar panel was not working. I emailed back to Energy Aid sales person and told him that I saw that 1 solar panel was not working and he replied to me that they saw that my inverter was not online anymore. I called that sale person and ask him why do they say that my inverter is not online anymore since I can see that my system is on and producing based on the manufacturer app. And he could not answer me. I can also see on my Edison account that my system is producing electricity. So, I decided to drop completely that company and told them that I was very dissatisfied with their service. In resume, bad service from many employees. Sales person is trying to sell me things I do not need and he said different things over a few calls. Base on that experience with them, they are not honest and they are trying to sell something that is not needed to make more money. I paid $299 for an inspection that didn't detect that a solar panel was not working and they didn't provide me quotes for exactly what I wanted to be done. Called Monday for a service appointment said will come out Tuesday 12-4. Called today at 330 and said the can't make it. Next appointment Monday next week. Lousy service. read more
