Our inverter stopped working so the mfr sent us a replacement. Called our installer to swap it out but lo and behold, they had gone out of business. When I researched different companies who do this type of work, I discovered there are a lot of scammers/crooks who charge inordinate prices. Went with SPD bc their reviews were solid and now I know why! First and foremost, their communication is great. They quoted us a reasonable price for the job, gave us their CSLB # to check them out, and scheduled us for the same week. David came out for the job and was very professional and informative about how long inverters typically last, diagnostic tests he had to run to make sure everything checked out, etc. and was done in a timely manner. Our app wasn't working so they had to request to transfer access from our old installer to SPD and they were great about it. All in all, I have nothing but wonderful things to say about SPD! The inverter has had an error code for a while and apparently they no longer manufacture this specific model. It's been so frustrating not being able to find a servicer to help and to be wasting all this sun power! Luckily, after much calling around, we were able to get an appointment the next day with Solar Panel Doctors. David came out and thoroughly checked out our system, and during the first hour of diagnosis discovered some faulty wiring on the panels and corrected that, hoping it would trigger the inverter to get back online. I am a fan of solar power and even though the company that installed our 36 panels in May of 2013 did not do the installation correctly, which lead to a leak in the roof that had to be repaired. We did not allow more interior damage with all the rains taking place in Southern California. That is what lead us to The Solar Panel Doctors for their help to get the roof repairs done. The panels had to be removed first for our roofer's American Highland Roofing to be able to access the area that needed repair. When I first spoke with Mr. Anderson of The Solar Panel Doctors he was very polite and explained what needed to be done and was ready to get on the job right away. Because this is a rental property and we live in another state, Mr. Anderson met with our property manager Mr. Dante Walker and contacted American Highland Roofing. They worked together to get the repairs done as soon as possible and the work is complete now. Mr. Anderson got crews on site as soon as the weather allowed and as soon as they got the panels removed they let American Roofing know so they could do their repairs as soon as they were finished The Solar Panel Doctors were back to the location to reinstall the panels. I needed my solar panels removed and reinstalled since March of 2023, so I could have my roof replaced. Sunnova, the company that installed them originally gave me the runaround for 6 months because they do not have enough labor to remove and reinstall panels. We have had our solar panels for two years. The first year we broke even with Edison. This last month we received a $1500 bill for the year! We contacted Sungevity, our solar panel system installers, to help us troubleshoot. Unfortunately, Sungevity went bankrupt after one year of the installation of our solar panels. We were told that the new owners would honor the warranty of 20 years. Here is the response we received from the new owners--Solar Spectrum: "You were a customer of Sungevity, Inc. That company was dissolved in a bankruptcy proceeding last year. In that proceeding, the Sungevity brand was purchased and is now being used by a different company than the one you originally did business with. Sungevity's customers were not a part of that acquisition. You should have received notification of this fact through the bankruptcy sometime last year. Unfortunately, this means that there is no longer a company standing behind the warranty and performance guarantee included with your system. If you are having problems with your system, you will need to find a service provider in your area to evaluate and address the issue." Yes, we were thrown under the bus! So,I figured the first step was to get the solar panels cleaned (the rain never came...) . I called Solar Panel Care & Repair and asked if they could send someone tomorrow morning (Saturday). Nicholas was very accommodating and said he would. He was very punctual and prepared. He took pictures of the panels before and after. And, he even cleaned my skylight at no extra charge!
