I paid $60,000 to Certified Roofing Specialists for a roof and solar installation. The work was completed, but the experience did not match the premium price. I was provided with a non English speaking crew, which made it hard to communicate important details. Because of this, I was never informed that my previously installed EV charger would create a solar permit issue. That oversight ended up costing me an additional $2,000. For a company charging at the higher end, I expected clear communication and a thorough review of existing electrical work. Instead, I was left paying for issues that should have been identified upfront. My advice to future customers: - Make sure they thoroughly review all prior electrical work done in your home. - Ask specifically about permit implications before signing. - Get clear confirmation on who will be onsite and whether they can communicate effectively with you. - Do not assume they will proactively flag electrical conflicts, you may be asked to pay for corrections later. We would definitely recommend Certified Roofing Specialists!! So happy we chose to have them replace our roof, including the removal and reinstallation of our solar panels. Their pricing was competitive but what stood out to us was Jose's attention to detail. This review is a long overdue expression of appreciation for David and Certified Roofing. In the middle of a major remodel and decided that it was time to finally deal with the roof. While we hadn't had any leaks...I knew this was long overdue. David was referred to me by my contractor, who is a 4th generation builder and has very high standards. I felt instantly comfortable with him, like he was a long lost friend. I also sensed quickly that he is someone who knows how to "get it done," and is willing to go above and beyond to create the best experience possible for his clients. This was important to me. Part of the reason I had put the job off, was another roofing company, years ago, had given me a ridiculously high estimate, and by contrast, did not seem trustworthy. Bad vibes all around. Before speaking with David, we were referred to another roofer who we found out was unlicensed. They'd come highly recommended and gave us a written estimate. To my surprise, when David's estimate came in, it was even better than theirs. I was gobsmacked. Having already heard from my contractor that they did excellent work, there was nothing else to think about. Unfortunately I cannot recommend this company. We had a tile relay done and they did not check to see what kind of ceiling we had. Sawdust ended up covering the second floor. Besides that, the foreman was great about communicating the first two days. Lots of pictures and updates. But then he was reassigned, and from then on no one communicated with me. The workers would arrive and leave and no one would tell me what progress had been made. I had to call the office to ask. Eventually they finished the job and again, no one told us. A note was left by the city inspector which I had to call to figure out what it meant (apparently they had forgotten paperwork for him or something but the roof was ok). They did offer to let me hire a cleaner and reimburse me for the cost, and they did follow through on that. It also took a while and holding off on the final payment for a couple days for them to actually send me pictures of the finished roof. When you are giving someone thousands of dollars I guess pictures of the finished product was something I would have expected. read more

Initial Contact/Quoting Process: We were looking to redo our roof and collected quotes from 6 other local contractors. Certified Roofing Specialists came in about towards the lower-middle side of the quoted $ values, which I thought was extremely reasonable when some of the higher quotes we received. I initially spoke with Freddi and agreements/quoting process was incredible efficient and clear. Construction: There was a small delay due to weather, but I was made aware of the schedule changed even in advance of it raining and was told that if it was on the forecast, to manage expectations that the job would get pushed out. On the day of the job, the porta-potty was already in place from the night before and multiple guys came out to work on demo. They didn't make a mess and cleaned up the site after. We ran into some issues during construction, but I flagged them to Jose, who then came out and made sure everything was done right. Accountability is hard to come by and I was glad he took the time to make sure I was happy. He even reconnected my bathroom exhausts to the new vents. Jose was incredibly communicative through the whole process and I was impressed by the level of willingness to go the extra mile to make sure the job was done right. Change Orders: We had some additional charges because some wood needed to be replaced. The foreman walked me through what needed to be replaced and made sure I was OK with it before sending it for billing. Again, really impressed with the communication. TLDR: Overall, I would highly recommend Certified Roofing Specialists. I liked them so much, they are redoing another house for me in another city. read more

After weeks of research and meeting multiple roofers I found CRS. Terrific experience. I'd met with other roofers, but CRS checked all the boxes and David Schubert gave me assurances no other company would give. I felt myself relax when I met him. The idea of getting a new roof was overwhelming and there's a steep learning curve. I created a spreadsheet with prices, timelines for start date and completion, solar-certified or not, types of warranties, various wood replacement costs, contract concerns, and my own all-around trust factor. Trust felt nearly as important as cost, and David with CRS gave me every reason to trust. Furthermore, his pricing was the best and his warranties were at par or better. A friend told me to pay close attention to up-front payments. Turns out some companies with 4.9 reviews wanted 1/2 of job up cost before ordering tile, etc., which is crazy considering you don't even know when the tile will arrive or when they can start. In that scenario there's very little accountability and they could theoretically walk away or put your job off with little to lose. CRS scheduled the day I put down my initial deposit of $1,000. Issue #1: When requested I paid my deposit immediately (12/3/24) and was told multiple times that the job would likely happen December 18th *(by the original salesmen and by Jose who I assumed was the person I dropped my deposit off to) - I would receive a call if any issues popped up and rescheduling was necessary. There were a couple of additional items needed from me and I completed them within hours of receiving the request - always sent back on the day I received any request for info. The 18th arrives and no crew at my house, no call from the office. I have to call them to be alerted that there was some issue procuring the permits and I will get another call when they are ready to reschedule. I gave time over the holiday since I knew that the Mission Viejo permitting office was closed for two weeks. Once I knew they were open I reached out (1/6/2025) to the building permit office and asked how long does it typically take to get a permit - they responded 1-3 days, but around the holidays could be more like 2-5. I asked the status of my permit and they told me it had been approved on 1/3/2025, no contact to me from certified roofing specialists. I also asked the permitting office when the permit was originally submitted and they told me that it wasn't submitted until the 13th of December - so they waited 10 days before submitting the paperwork. I gave them the rest of the day to reach out and contacted Jose on 1/7/2025 to ask the status (again, I have to contact them) and he stated that it is approved and I am scheduled for the 21st of January. Issue #2: Jose provides a "what to know before you start" document and in it there it states if you have a pool you need to let the foreman know so he can cover it. The day arrived and the foreman I was expecting, Jesus, was not here but another person, Bruno, was. So I walk the property with Bruno - pointing out the pool and the area where I take my dogs out, etc. Bruno says he will cover the pool (this is about 8am after they arrived). I go back inside to work and almost immediately I hear people on the roof starting to rip it down, and I see no one covering the pool. About 1.5 hrs go by and suddenly I see two people in the backyard attempting to cover the pool. By this time, shingles and nails had already fallen in the pool. They cover the pool about halfway to catch most of whatever else would fall throughout the day. The 2nd and final day arrives and I send an email to the office asking that someone either clean the nails and shingles out of the pool or I get a discount so I can pay someone else to fish it all out. One of the laborers on site, Erwin, takes it upon himself before he leaves at the end of the day to jump into the water (pool temp is less than 50 degrees) and manually retrieve all the pieces. I didn't need it to be perfect, just to fish out any nails and large shingle pieces. At this point I am satisfied, however I get an email the next day stating that the shingles and nails were already in the pool due to the winds we experienced the day before - and Jose provides a 3 second video clip of the guys who showed up 1.5 hrs late to cover it. So they would provide no assistance. I didn't expect anything else at this point as it had already been taken care of but I also did not expect for them to attempt to lie to me about it. There was dust and leaves in the pool from the wind (it definitely wasn't perfectly clean) but it absolutely did not have shingles and nails in it - otherwise Bruno who originally walked it with me could have stated that fact. Overall I feel like the work was good, I haven't seen any leaks - but the communication and trustworthiness of the office would not be something I would have someone else go through. read more
