Dealing with this company just to get an estimate has been a complete, totally unprofessional, mess. Thinking about coordinating a large install with them is, quite frankly, frightening. We received an initial quote from EnergyGuard for 6 windows in late September. They were responsive at first, and gave us a quote based on information given over the phone, which was much appreciated. It was the best quote we'd recieved from a total of 3 companies, so we decided to pursue the next steps. They then sent someone out to do a measurement. He was an hour late to our home, and did not communicate this at all. We ended up having to call the office to find out he's still coming, after we tried calling him and didn't get an answer. When he did show up, he took a couple photos, but did not measure anything or take that many notes. A few days pass, and we hadn't heard anything from EnergyGuard. I emailed their office, they did not respond for a couple days. When they did, they apologized and informed me that their office is only open for about 4 hours per day on weekdays. Which was surprising, as other companies seem to respond at any time of the day. They told me that the measurer would reach out to us with a revised quote soon. 4 weeks pass, we followed up with the measurer multiple times, and we still hadn't heard anything in response. Meanwhile the bids from competitors had expired, as it had been over a month. We sent a strongly worded email to EnergyGuard, they responded apologetically, but also in a way that made it seem like they had completely forgotten any details about our project. We responded, giving every effort to fill them back in on our project. No response. The next day, while we were out of the house, the measurer showed up at our door, completely unannounced. At this point we decided we cannot move forward with EnergyGuard. The next day, he sends us an email saying that they are withdrawing from our project. To his credit, in this email he did at least tell us that he showed up at our home to take another look while he was in the area. Although this email was sent about 24 hours after his surprise visit. So in total, the process of getting a quote from EnergyGuard lasted a month and a half, and we didn't even receive one in the end. The amount of stress this company caused us, considering we never even got past the quote stage, was absolutely unreal. read more

Sadly, we had a horrible experience with this company. I really liked Darren and Carrie but the crew that was assigned to us was terrible. Recently I heard a term that the younger generation are employing called "quiet quitting", whereas a person does just the bare minimum at a job to not get fired... I immediately thought of our window crew and I'm certain that we got that crew for our job. They only worked a few hours a day, the rest of the time they were smoking(flicking butts on our neighbors property), laying in our driveway or hanging in their work truck. The finish work was horrendous and I'm still trying to pay contractors to fix. A year later and we're still cleaning up after them. We now have tons of beetles entering our home, wasn't an issue prior. We can hear traffic outside now and overall they don't seem to be installed properly. I've tried to hire other window companies to repair but to fix it they need to install new windows. I had so many guests come in to our house that were appalled when we said that the new windows are in and considered "finished". They truly look awful and weren't installed properly. It has been like pulling teeth to get any resolution with the company. We finally gave up. read more

I haven't yet decided whether I will use their service for my new windows - but I really appreciated their sales rep, who was nice, knowledgeable (actually knew Oregon code well, much better than other reps when I asked questions about egress requirements and tempered glass regulations), and perhaps most importantly, NOT pushy. Others in the industry give "hard sells" and stay in your house until you force them out, like kicking a pushy used car salesmen out of your house. A major part of a total remodel and the only contractor we had any issues with. After the salesman leaves don't expect to hear from him again. When they did show up to install 32 windows and new doors, they sent a crew that wasn't close to what we had been sold on. A very young and inexperienced crew proceeded to install and in the process damage our siding, leave caulking all over the siding and in some places no caulking. Their clean up was rushed and not close to acceptable. We had been told the crew was very experienced but this was definitely NOT the case. They were pushed by ownership to finish the project in a shorter than needed time frame and made numerous mistakes. Milgard windows should be ashamed to have this company as an installer. After we brought the major issues to the owners attention, he and his daughter/manager did not want to pay our contractor the extremely reasonable price to repair everything so we ended up with even more money out of pocket. Milgard was contacted and they acted like they didn't care also. The salesman never contacted us once during all the issues. Having windows replaced is too important so go elsewhere and avoid the problems we experienced. read more

Darren is very passionate about windows and gave us good ideas on what would look good in our house. He listened to us and was not pushy at all. His crew is top notch and was on time, even early! They worked very hard over 3 days to install 18 windows, which included a slider and two new windows that were not there before. In remodeling our entire home, we have worked with Energy Guard off and on. At one point early on we were unsure about what to do in our family room and they sent one of their employees who helped us catch a vision yet wasn't pushy about selling us either their services or products. We greatly appreciated the enthusiastic advice and vision and it helped us decide what to do. Later, we used Energy Guard to help us add windows to our home. They were straightforward and very helpful and gave us all the information we asked for (and believe me, we ask lots of questions!). We ordered Milgard windows through them and they were delivered to their location promptly. The only thing that could have been improved was for them to offer free delivery to our home! 4.5 stars. 5 stars from me has to be a nearly perfect experience and while our experience with Energy Guard was quite good, it did not get to perfect. 1. Estimate process- Energy Guard's estimator, Darren, arrived on time and was friendly and helpful. The estimate arrived promptly (several companies took many days) 2. Price- Energy Guard's price was similar to other Milgard installers and in line with most of the companies we spoke with. There was 1 company with a price that was quite a bit lower but their references were not strong. 3. Installation schedule- There was a pretty long delay between signing papers and install, but this was complicated by Milgard and weather. I don't think a 2 month delay was out of line with other companies. 4. Communication- Office staff is very good about returning emails. Darren was a bit more difficult to get via email or cell but we did eventually get communication. 5. Install- 5 stars on the install crew. They worked in cold weather and took great care cleaning up. Window replacement is really messy with the cutting involved and the crew did a great job. 6. Follow up- There were some product issues with Milgard and we needed service. We did not get a clear picture of how this would happen although Milgard did call so the communication was taken care of by Energy Guard behind the scenes. We had an issue with a window we thought would have grids installed that did not. This was not entirely the fault of Energy Guard as we are required to sign off on each window and did not catch that the window was without grids. We wish that window did have grids as it would look more in line with the other front windows. Overall, we spend considerable time selecting a window company and if we had it to do again, we would likely choose them again. Update- switch to 5 stars. The window grid issue was handled by a guy from Milgard AT NO COST to us. While this is not directly due to Energy Guard, the relationship with a local company that stands behind a product is still an advantage vs using other companies. read more

Very unprofessional! Darren whom I believe is the owner was supposed to come by for an estimate at 9:00am. I received a call at 9:00 saying that he could not make it and would like to reschedule. Why he couldn't have the common courtesy of giving any notice at all, I'll never know. We ended up rescheduling for the next day at 10:00am. 10 'o clock comes and goes and surprise once again noone shows! After trying to get a hold of them for some time, I finally learn that the idiot showed up at 9:00am didn't knock on the door or anything. Looked at the windows from the outside, decided he couldn't or didn't want to do the job and just left without any notice. And then when we do get a hold of him and he tells us this, he has the gall to have an attitude trying to figure out why this "company" is wasting our time and not communicating. I've never expierenced worst customer service and would rather attempt to replace my own windows then deal with these unprofessional jokes and have them waste my time. We selected Energy Guard from a field of the three top window contractors in the Portland metropolitan area for several reasons and are quite happy with the results. We replaced almost every window (15 windows total). One very nice aspect of working with Energy Guard is that we had very few questions about their bid. The different cost and benefit factors were listed for each window, while one competitor provided just a grand total. Energy Guard also subtotaled the labor charge, helping us see how much each window would be for materials only. They also segregated the Energy Trust rebate, which helped us see the savings we would receive. We made several changes to the bid, and Energy Guard was quick to reply. The installation took place over three days, and the crew was respectful, courteous, and responsive to our questions. Their crew is employed, so we did not have too many worries about subcontractors or day laborers coming into our home. There was one issue with a set up charge for scaffolding, but Energy Guard was open to negotiating with us to find a mutually satisfying resolution. After installation, they have been responsive to our questions about the windows and any perceived issues, and they interfacing with Milgard for any warranty concerns. There is only one room's windows left, which we will replace eventually, as well as some exterior doors, and Energy Guard will be the first contractor we contact, since we are quite happy with them. read more

We had an excellent experience with EnergyGuard from beginning to end. We just had most of our old windows replaced, and opening all our new windows with two fingers is amazing. Throughout the whole process, they worked to educate us as well as provide ideas and design changes that we love. Darren came and gave us a quote, even pointing out design ideas and places to save money. Never once felt like he was trying to "up-sell" us like some of the other bids. The install crew are courteous and professional. They did an amazing job even down to working hard not to break any small branches on our trees with their truck in a narrow street. They were patient to even explain any processes I had questions about. When we have the rest of our windows done we absolutely would go with EnergyGuard again. If you have doubts you should go to one of their seminars. They take all the questions out of the process and explain their products and services in great detail without feeling like some pushy "timeshare" sales presentation. read more

I have a hard time giving any review of 5 stars, which I interpret as "perfect". Our experience was nearly perfect so 4.5 would be closer. Our dealings with Darren and with the office at EnergyGuard has been outstanding. Our install crews (it took two visits due to rain and a missing worker) were professional, especially the two men who installed our sliding door on April 18th. I would definitely recommend EnergyGuard to anyone looking to replace windows and doors. The reasons our experience wasn't "perfect" lie in the fact that our install date was postponed twice and then a one day job became a two day job. Plus, the screen door for our slider came severely damaged in shipping. We now await a promised replacement. Finally, our windows are, in fact, exactly what we wanted and Darren did an excellent job guiding us during our purchase. I will hire EnergyGuard to complete our project when we get to that stage.
