For appetizers my husband had the Burn & Burn roll. He said that it was good. I had the Seafood bisque. It was thick and delicious. For dinner he had the filet and raved about it. I had the Salmon with crab, asparagus & Bernaise Sauce. It was excellent. Everything was cooked perfectly and the portions are not skimpy. Entrees come with a traditional house salad (choice of dressing). Dinner rolls were very good as was the flourless chocolate cake. We'll be back! read more

I came here to eat on Thursday evening with my mother and was so happy with the experience! Our waitress was so nice and helpful. Just wonderful. I think her name was Kelly but I could be mistaken. My mom ordered clams appetizer and twin lobster tails for dinner. I ordered shrimp cocktail and seafood Fra Diavolo. Everything was fresh and excellent. I ordered sushi for my husband to go and he said it was excellent as well. He got a shrimp tempura roll, spicy tuna and the sandy specialty roll. Very pleased and would definitely go back! We have stayed at The Engleside for the last 5 or 6 years during the summer and we love it! We have stayed in all different types of rooms as well and have never been disappointed. Rooms are large, clean and comfy with, at a minimum, a nice sized fridge and small coffee pot. We love the rooms, the pool, beach access and the restaurants as well! Nothing like coming off the beach to hang by the pool and enjoying some adult beverages and live music! We'll be back again next year!! read more

First bad experience of the year. We went here for Sushi on a Friday night. Unfortunately, if you are not a local, you do not get service. Now a few things about local places. I get it. If you live close by and go to a certain place a lot, you are entitled to a favorable and friendly response. However, this place is located in a hotel and therefore, by definition, has people attending the restaurant DOWNSTAIRS who are from out of town. We watched people stroll in and get their drinks and order while we waited. They were greeted with a "hey how have you been" and "haven't seen u since yesterday". It was only after 20 minutes and a couple reminders in which I had to get up and go to the reception area did we get acknowledged. Maybe we were sitting in someone's seat or this place doesn't like new customers. It doesn't matter. We ate our sushi (which was average at best) and left. I am going to stay away which is unfortunate since we just bought a place a couple blocks down the street. I guess that would make us a local but we never even engaged in conversation as the bartenders were focused on their cell phones and friends. Pass. read more

Oh how I love this restaurant. Everything on the menu is cooked perfectly and presented beautifully. I had the filet cooked at a perfect medium rare and tempura rock shrimp for appetizer. I would order both again for sure. My mother loves the Maryland crab roll, which I stole a bite of. Delicious also with lump crab piled on top. Great variety from sushi to steak, pasta, seafood, and chicken. A full bar and great service from Morgan makes the Engleside a home run. read more

Took our friends here for a Sunday night dinner. Our waiter told us up front that they were short staffed and boy were they! Long wait for our meal, no refill on water, constantly catching the waiter for ketchup or drink refills. Food was good. Saw the manager reaming out a waiter because of a complaint of poor service. Watched the manager walk around and bark at staff without lifting a finger to help. Really disappointed with that experience. read more

My friends and I had been down in Long Beach Island for the last 4 days and were really craving some quality seafood and steaks. We chose Engelside because of online reviews and an overview of the menu. We were sat at a lovely table in the corner after making an 8pm reservation. Our server, Morgan, was very quick and attentive and made some wonderful recommendations. She also suggested her favorite spots to visit and bars to check out. The food, from the first to the last bite, was absolutely delicious and superbly prepared. Between the food and the service, we will definitely be back and send all our friends and family down who visit each year. Thanks Morgan, and the whole staff! You guys are killin it! read more

We stay at the Engleside every summer for a weekend and then rent a house across the street for a week later in the summer. The hotel is fine; clean rooms, great location, and friendly staff. But my favorite thing about the Engleside is the grilled tuna tacos at the Sandbar - they are perfection. read more

My family & I had the best meal Friday night w the best server! Jennifer knew every item on the menu & had great recommendations. Her enthusiasm for the area (we'd never been to LBI) and for the restaurant were contagious. The porterhouse chop was like a little piggy sent from heaven! have frequented their sushi bar which is a bit of a hidden treasure, but returned for a proper dinner with friends not too long ago. certainly was not expecting attentive service and truly a great meal at the shore mid August, but everything was really wonderful. Clams casino, lobster bisque, panko crusted scallops, prime rib, flounder francaise, absolutely shrimp plus were all perfect. The large dining room was packed with a range of ages and large and small parties, yet everyone seemed to be receiving the same quality food and service. Go there and be happy! read more

A longtime favorite of mine. 5 stars for the excellent food and always attentive service. It's also open year-round, and is the perfect restaurant if you decide to have a weekend getaway in the off-season. They also have the best sushi bar in Ocean County, for my money. My only caution: when ordering from the bar, stick to beer and wine. The bartenders cannot mix a drink to save their lives. read more

This restaurant has a very diverse menu of Continental Cuisine. The food is not fantastic, but it is pretty good and consistent. Service is attentive. This restaurant shines and earns an extra star from the average due to it's Sushi menu. The sushi is actually pretty good considering there is hardly any competition (Buckalew's just started serving sushi in 2010...not bad either). Ate in the restaurant and the food was great. Had the tuna catch of the day which was cooked exactly how i had asked. Preparation of the food was simple too. The fish was not overseasoned and the grilled vegetables on the side seemed fresh and perfectly grilled and, again, perfectly seasoned. Service was good too. We were on our last niGht here im LBI. This finished our trip with a bang. I called ahead for reservation and when we got there they sat us immediately. I had the king crab legs,so sweet juicy. They had cool scissors to cut the legs. My server was so sweet and attentive. Everyone loved their meal. Shrimp tempura and the sauce it came with was a hit. We recently went to the sandbar for lunch, we have been going here every year because they have a good food and a really good band (2 guys that really know how to play music). However, this year was surprise as they actually have a friendly bartender (nate) that knows his stuff! This time drinks were served quickly unlike years past where the girl bartender is more interested with what the other bartender is doing! The sandbar is a must for our vacation every year but now its a daily stop on our vacation! read more

We were staying at the hotel and decided to walk to the restaurant. The place was very nicely decorated and we were sat quickly. We opened our menus and the choices were interesting, though pricey. (you are at the shore-so no shocker) We then noticed a sushi menu had been delivered as well. We inquired and the waitress said it was certainly available-though she knew nothing about it. We ordered two shrimp tempura rolls of different types as well as some edamame and seaweed salad. I was excited to try the sushi as a previous blogger had said it was the best sushi from NYC to Delaware. The appetizers were fine, as expected. The expensive $15+ sushi rolls were another story. The shrimp tempura was fried to a burnt cracky stick...it had no taste due to its overcooking. I thought maybe it was just mine but my girlfriend's was equally incinerated. I would give the place more stars but the star of the meal was a disaster. I would be reluctant to try it again. We didn't complain to the staff as the place had gotten crowded. I wonder what the regular food menu has in store? read more

If the review was on food only it would be a five! Great food but poor service! The bartenders only care about your personal business and not serving drinks nor food quick or prompt to you! This place has great potential the food and sushi is amazing but the service is horrible! At the bar I haven't had a pleasant experience ever the lady only prys into your business and the tall goofy guy is only your friend if you know him. We have sat a table multiple times and it seems like ever server is miserable and the one lady with bleach blonde/orange hair was so rude when we asked for a special and she screamed yeaaaaah we don't have that, choose again! If it wasn't for the amazing food no one would go to this out dated, poor service facilities! read more

I stayed at the inn last year and had a wonderful meal of sushi at the restaurant. The restaurant is very nice and quiet compared to the rest of the town, and the food is delicious. If you go to Beach Haven, I would recommend staying at The Engleside, eating their sushi, and drinking their white Russians. read more
