My best friend lives in AZ and on my last visit, we decided last minute to book an English Tea experience. They were so nice and were able to get us a small table for a party of 3. They did warn us it would be slightly snug, but that's what happens when you don't reserve ahead of time haha. The food was delicious and I enjoyed my tea. I believe I ordered the assam (?) tea (forgive me I'm writing this review late and I don't remember the names), and my friends ordered the chocolate mint tea (?). Idk if those are the right names BUT I do remember enjoying the teas. I loved the decor there. So pretty, so pink! It was girly heaven. I didn't know they had hats for you to wear in the back of the room near the bathroom, so I wasn't able to pick out a hat to wear during our teatime. Who was wondering why they had Halloween decorations up (on July 31) and I wanted to strangle her for being such an idiot. She didn't notice the 20 other people adults and children dressed in black cloaks? Fun with wands? And everyone who worked there was dressed up as characters from the movie? The owners went well out of their way making sure that down to the chocolate frogs and pieces of birthday cake with pink frosting and a green H were spot on for such a magical day! My friends and I have been wanting to try this tea room for the longest time, Carefree is far but it's worth the drive! Our reservation was at noon and I believe you *have* to make a reservation since this place seems to always be busy. The ambiance is gorgeous, there's really no other way to describe it. If you love all shades of pink and yellow, this is your paradise. My friend suggested we do the formal afternoon tea which comes with a pot of tea of our choice, we had an extra pot since there were 3 of us - the London fog was actually amazing before and after adding cream and sugar, but the chai was insanely good. It was creamy right off the bat, 10/10 no adjustments, no notes. The food was good, there were 6 little finger sandwiches total - 3 types and 2 of each sandwich so we had to divvy up what we wanted. I will never turn down salmon so I had the smoked salmon with cream cheese & cucumber with cream cheese, they were excellent. The scones were probably the table favorite, they were big enough to share and the cream plus strawberry preserves were so yummy when mixed together. The last part was the dessert, my favorite was the seasonal trifle, I realized too late I should've actually used this on the scone, it was rich and creamy, perfect for spreading on something. I also love a good shortbread cookie. Overall this was a lovely experience, I'm so glad I grabbed a couple friends and went the day after my bday, this was a really special experience I won't soon forget. read more

Absolutely beautiful tea room! When you imagine having afternoon tea, you think about flowers everywhere and this is exactly what it has. The classic afternoon tea on the menu was perfect for what I wanted. There was a great variety on the tea menu too. The sandwiches were delicious and I got 2 of each, which is a great deal because places usually give 1. The scones were great, although I would prefer if it didn't have powdered sugar. There was also a watermelon macaron that I didn't really like but the server was able to give me a different flavor. She was a really great and attentive server as well. I would absolutely come to this place again, but I'm not sure when I'll be back in town. Loved it! I totally forgot to mention that they put the tea leaves directly in the pot and not into a strainer. You're not supposed to do this when brewing tea because the tea leaf flavor will burn and become bitter. I drank the tea fairly quickly because of this. I suggest they change that feature. read more

Everytime I go here I am never disappointed. When we first arrived the hostess tried to sit us at a little table for two but we knew how much food we would be ordering...can you say 'leftovers'? We were sat outside on the patio and the weather was just perfect. The owner had already decorated for Christmas and it was just beautiful. There were new padded menus instead of the laminated menus and a new selection of teas to choose from. So I ordered my 2 scones, tea and quiche. We definitely needed that bigger table. Everything was as expected and we even bought some of the new tea in their little store to take home along with our leftovers. If you haven't been here it is an experience like no other. This is by far one of the best food experiences I have ever had in the Phoenix area. The entire vibe of the place is wonderful- from teapots and teacups as far as the eye can see, to gorgeous fake flowers stretching up to the ceiling, to various English memorabilia (such as Paddington). The menu itself is expansive, with separate menus for the food offerings and tea. I ordered the Formal Afternoon Tea, which I split with a friend, and was delighted to essentially receive a grown-up version of a tea party, with the all the whimsy one could ask for. The cucumber and feta sandwiches were a particular favorite item, along with the seasonal trifle. Everything we ate was delicious and the tea itself was perfectly steeped, with cream, honey, and sugar all offered on the side. I would highly recommend making reservations here as far out as possible since it is very busy but this is the perfect spot to celebrate special occasions or just treat yourself to a special experience! We started off with 1 small tea pot and it was soo good so we ordered 2 more! 1 pot serves 2-3 people and Tip: you can ask for hot water refill for free for the pot to drink the tea again. 3 pots we got are: RHUBARB OOLONG: Fruity oolong tea with rode petals & rhubarb pieces. This one has a light fruity flavor ORGANIC CARAMEL PEACH: Rooibos tea with caramel, peach & coconut - this is is a must try! So fruity and delicious with cream and honey added! I have been to English Rose Tea Room several times, and the experience is always delightful. The gals who work there are very sweet, and they helped me coordinate a Galentine's Day celebration with twelve girls. My only constructive feedback for them is that their Mother's Day offering was a bit overpriced (nearly $400 for three people) and not all that different from their regular afternoon tea, which in my opinion is very well priced ($46 before taxes for two people, so $23 per person). That said, when I come for regular afternoon tea, it's wonderful. This is a great outing for mothers and daughters, girlfriends, and even my brother came one time and enjoyed himself! This place is top-notch the second you walk in! We had a large group for Galentine's Day and they were able to accommodate us. I believe we had 12 of us. The waitress was very on top of it taking her time to describe each one of the teas that we could choose from and giving recommendations of the most popular ones. The food was great and it was on a beautiful three tiered platter with dessert on the top, two scones in the middle, and six different sandwiches made up of three different flavors that were all delicious. One of the sandwiches had tarragon another had salmon and another one was a cucumber sandwich. The scones were vanilla bean, I believe, and there was an assortment of desserts on top. The tea was great and they used looseleaf tea with a strainer when you pour it. We had the passionfruit tea, which was fantastic. There were so many options from fruity to chocolatey. Overall, we had six tiered trays for a group of 12, which was super nice because we could just pair off and decide the type of tea each one of us wanted. The ambience here is floral and formal. Several people were dressed up, wearing big hats and gloves and the clientele was a wide array from young girls having tea with their grandmothers to large group of 30-year-old women all the way to elderly husbands and wives. Every square inch of this place is decorated beautifully, even the standalone bathroom. This is not a tea where you're treated to a special one-of-a-kind experience - it's a casual lunch cafe with a tea theme. The apparent owner snootily greeted me with a "just yourself?!" as I had a reservation for a party of 1. I was then directed to a table on the border of the seating floor and cashier area, where everyone floods in each 30 minutes as they seat people. I had to sit there eating a foot away from someone's arse for several minutes as people attempted to navigate around my table in close quarters and tried not to bump into me while eating. For an establishment that advertises to solo diners on their website, this was not what I had hoped for. Seems like a classic "solo diners get worst seat in the house" situation. Would also have been nice for someone to offer to take the table's photo. Also wasn't offered a hat as others stated they sometimes do. I had the formal tea. Sandwiches were nothing special. 2/5. Could make better at home. Salmon was one of the seafood cream cheese spreads, not actual salmon meat. Biscuits were fluffy, flaky, and everything you'd want. 5/5. Desserts were mixed. Lavender shortbread cookie stole the show, while the cold yellow cake seemed dry and aged and the strawberry trifle cup tasted artificial and didn't go back for a second bite. Tea was flavorful and juicy. Waitress warm and welcoming. Overall this seems like a regular lunch stop for many people more than the first time formal tea experience some people will be attending for. What a charming spot! We were in town for a retreat within walking distance and I had found this spot on Yelp. We wanted to check it out but kept forgetting to call for a reservation. (Note you do those online now here!) I knew chances of our group of 4 getting a table on a busy Saturday was slim, but we stopped in early to ask and were told often the reservations are done 1-2 months in advance and they were fully booked. But if there was a cancellation we could get in. When we came back later it was closer to closing but they had a con cellar ion and we got a table! (Which they didn't have to tell us or give us as it was late, so extra points for kind and gracious hosts!) The interior is amazingly cute and the ideal dram of a tea room I all pinks and sparkles and fun decor. The tables are smaller for a cozy tea but also can be put together for a party. The menu is amazing but we came for cream tea. Their tea options are amazing as well with lots of great caffeine free, herbal and black/green options. With a cream tea you get two scones and a pot of tea, so we split two orders and had plenty. They also do gluten free scones! Amazing! It was a delightful time with friends I haven't seen in years, and a great way to make a memory and celebrate friendship. My sister and I are so incredibly thankful to have found this cute little tea spot. We originally booked at a place in Tempe and then it got cancelled due to some lawsuit. So we did some google searching and yelp review reading and came across this tea room. We booked online and it was super easy. Make sure that if you are booking online and want to be inside, to pick standard. There was a review that stated that if you do it online you only get outdoors and that's not accurate. You have to look at what you picked at reservation. We got there about 15 minutes before our scheduled time and was just floored by the decoration. From all the florals outside to the Photo Booth and the teapots inside, it was like you were transported to England! My sister did a an afternoon tea in London so she had high hopes and was not disappointed at this. The women that served us was so kind and sweet and attentive. We ordered the $40 afternoon tea and it was absolutely delicious. If you go for a little snack it is very filling. We shared the one sandwich tower with scones and dessert as well. We ordered more sandwiches and another pot of tea. The additional sandwiches we ordered we wanted to take home for later cause it was so darn delicious! Also, the scones were perfectly flavored along with the butter and curd and jam. The dessert was ok but I'm not a macaroon fan but the cake and chocolate strawberry was delightful. i have been here several times including a time that a child was severely burnt from hot tea water. I was there this weekend and was totally underwhelmed. Of the 5 desserts in the top tier 3 were strawberry. The jam served with our scones was strawberry as well. The tea I ordered wasn't to my liking and our waitress said if I wanted a different tea she would have to charge me for another pot. I think for the cost of the high tea it should at least be served with a cup of soup. The atmosphere is very inviting however we were seated outside! I was never told we would be seated outside. We were staying in Scottsdale and when I did the research, this place was just a straight shot up the road and it was more traditional opposed to competitive experiences that were taking a boozy, modern take. The drive up was really enjoyable. Yes, it's a bit away but traffic in a Sunday morning was calm and slow and it was very scenic. I chose 10:30am which was their opening time and by the time we walked it, people were already being seated. There are about 8 table seatings inside and about the same outside. It's a little bit kitschy in its esthetic but I actually really liked it. Roses and birds and the queen Elizabeth everywhere. We ordered the afternoon tea special and they stopped me from ordering 2 servings because it's enough for 2 people. And they were right. It was filling for both of us. I also picked this place because it also had other food other than the afternoon tea in case my boyfriend was still hungry. The tea was great and they had a large selection, and every part of the food was homemade and fantastic. I wasn't sure if this would be too "girly" or "silly" for my boyfriend but he really enjoyed himself and would gladly come back with me. Highly recommend!! My absolute favorite place for high tea and now it's even easier to make a reservation online instead of phone tag! My girlfriends and I have been coming here for years. We've hit all the tea spots in the valley and the English Rose always comes out on top for me because of the incredible gluten free high tea offering. You get everything the non GF people get so you aren't missing anything. My favorite tea is Paris and I always try and snag a tin of it to take home (it sells out though!). The tea sandwiches are perfect, followed by the most delicious scone. Ask for the lemon curd to go with the clotted cream. By the time you make it to the top of the tower you'll probably be stuffed- recommend you order a few scones to take with you along with the goodies you're too full to eat! Bring your camera- Jo has the cutest photo walls and you'll want to remember all of the cute detail inside and out. There are also cute gifts, tea, cards, etc. to buy and every once in a while a sidewalk sale of old tea sets/cups/saucers.
