Great espresso choices and enough gluten free options to make this a go to when in Carefree. The service was quick and curt. Cute patio but it is overlooking the parking lot or main road .

Avocado Smash - INCREDIBLE!!!

This place never disappoints! Staff is super friendly and kind. EVERYTHING is top-notch - coffee, tea, and food! Such a cute coffee shop - one of my faves in the area for sure! Love that they have so many organic ingredients!

When a friend suggested Carefree Coffee Roastery for a meeting spot on a recent Saturday morning, I looked it up and saw a lot of positive reviews. I was psyched to try it and it did not disappoint! Our party of six arrived a bit after 8:30am and placed our orders and then sat down on one of the outside picnic tables... We enjoyed our drinks (a flat white with oat milk for me) and eats (quiche of the day for me) and did some chatting. We also did a little art project and no one seemed to mind... It was a delicious and memorable morning. If you find yourself in the Carefree area, check this place out - it's a hidden gem for sure!

So, I initially went to another coffee shop in the Spanish village thinking it was this one...I was so disappointed with that one that I took the 5 minute (no straight path) walk from there to here to frequent this one, and I'm so glad I did! It's one of a few spots in the area where the staff was genuinely friendly and welcoming (atleast during my stay in Carefree). My oat milk Cortado was delicious, and although my lox bagel was not the best I've ever had, it satisfied my craving. Grabbing a dragon fruit smoothie for my walk back was my best idea yet. Not too sweet and flavorfully fruity, I've been craving another since I left Carefree! The knitted banisters, and cozy intimate space were definitely an inviting change, and although it faces the parking lot, the covered outdoor seating is a perfect alternative given the cooling weather.

Cute, local-ish spot. Great place to stop by if you're hiking in cave creek/carefree. Lots of people seemed to stop by on their runs/bike rides with dogs. Indoor seating is ok, but outdoor seating was really nice when the weather was temperate. Solid pastries. Matcha latte was fine, we ordered the blueberry matcha. It wasn't authentic, but I didn't expect it to be super ceremonial grade. Will return if I am hiking in the area.

Awesome tasting food without any side effects or after taste! The coffee paired well with the lox on a gluten free bagel.

Great Find Near the Resort - Definitely Going Back We found this place on Yelp while staying at a nearby resort and were looking for something with good organic options and matcha--and honestly, it did not disappoint. The egg burrito we got was delicious, and we also tried a banana-on-bread type of dish (I don't remember the exact name), but it was equally amazing. We grabbed some matchas too, and they were really good. For the price, the quality, and the solid selection of organic items, this spot is definitely worth going back to. I believe this is a small, family-owned business too, so I love being able to support local. We'll definitely be coming back.

Chai latte

Great local coffee shop, wide variety of beverages, items for sale. Prices very reasonable.

Latte

Loved this area outside of Phoenix, and was excited to sit outside to sip coffee with mountain views. Cool vibe. Coffee was beautiful in the cup, a latte decaf. But...I believe they served me a regular coffee, was buzzing in about 10 minutes. Also, the large cups are really cool but not conducive to keeping the coffee hot, as the coffee wasn't served hot to behind with. Quite disappointing considering 2 coffees were over $13.00. We'll try again different place next time.

Very cute local coffee shop. They have a lot of great options including tea! I opted for a Spanish style latte, with lovely flavors of cinnamon & a hint of cayenne. Delicious! I also love that they are bike friendly & have bike racks outside the establishment.

Cortado

This is our favorite coffee shop to visit in AZ, without a doubt. Lars and the entire staff are so kind, know just about everyone who walks through the door by name (and order!), and take pride in their high quality coffee and food. Matcha is delicious, too! They have gluten-free options and some of the best muffins you'll ever try. Carefree Coffee roasts their own coffee beans and uses ingredients from local shops. My husband's favorite thing to get is the "Jam Burrito," which is a unique breakfast burrito that you won't find anywhere else, and it is served with a fresh salsa. I try to get something new every time, but my recent favorites are the chicken salad, egg and cheese breakfast burrito, and their daily quiche. Looking forward to coming back and sitting on the patio! Such a cozy, inviting atmosphere.

My son has a severe gluten allergy and we came here as I saw they had gluten free pancakes. I informed the waitress of my son's allergy when we placed our order, and confirmed that his pancakes were gluten free when they were brought to our table. Being a normal 5 year old who loves pancakes, my baby enjoyed his breakfast... only to begin coughing intensely and then breaking out into severe hives (and panicking) shortly thereafter. By God's grace, we had his epi Pen nearby. We still ended up in the ER as his breathing was impacted in addition to the hives (thankfully the epi pen helped but he still had to receive treatment and be monitored). All of this was due to pancakes that we were told were gluten free. While my husband and I rushed our son to the hospital, my father who is a local resident, spoke with management. They comped our meal, which was kind. But this truly could have been a life or death situation.

I say "mildly suprised" because once we walked up to the actual coffee house we heard the live music on the large back patio. One of our absolutely favorite local artist, Aaron Howard was performing, and he definitely brings in a crowd. It was busy, as I mentioned, but not too crowded, and we found a good table towards the back. As it was the begging of the hot weather this spring, we were very grateful for the generous-sized table umbrellas. But first, we went inside the Bodega to order a Beer and a snack. They have a great selection of Beer and wine! And since we were still 2 hours or so away from dinner, we decided to grab a veggie & cheese board, which had a nice variety of cruditè and humas. It was very satisfying for 2 adults. We spent.a total of about 2 hours there and left there knowing we would be coming back to Janey's. Side note: For those of you who need accessibility, I myself am on an electric scooter for ambulating. The parking lot is dirt and only has a couple of handicap parking spots. But no space is more than approximately 150 ft from the entrance to Janey's. Once you get to the building, it is very easy to get in and out of the main bodega, with wide, level doorways. The doors were propped open when we visited. I did not utilize the restroom on this visit.

Fresh, satisfying, and exactly what I needed after being out on the trails. Prices are very reasonable too. The vibe here is what makes it special. It's busy but relaxed, cozy but open, and you order at the counter which keeps everything easy and casual.
