I've not had the best of luck accident wise with my current car. It's been in the shop two times…read moreover the past year. I had to rent a car for each of these instances so I came to this Avis location both times. The Cumberland Mall/Sears location is kind of hidden and not many people don't know that it's there. It's a great location because you are in and out fairly quickly. For my visit rental, I reserved a compact car and ended up with a full size because they didn't have any compacts in the inventory. I had the car for a week. I reserved a compact car for the second rental thinking maybe I'd get a full size again. Well, they appear to have acquired a compact car to add to their fleet. I ended up with a Mazda 2. I started off renting the vehicle for one week because I wasn't sure how long my car would be in the shop. Two extensions later, my car was finally fully repaired. I simply called the main number to extend the rental both times. I was quoted a final rate over the phone, but the location ended up charging me a lower rate since I had the vehicle for two full weeks. Yay for voluntarily saving me money!

Absolute worst rental car experience. I am a regular business traveler and user of Avis as an Avis…read morePreferred member for 6 years now. Same guy checked me in and out. Upon return I arrived 20 minutes before I needed to return my vehicle and then proceeded to wait over 30 minutes at the counter. I shouted to see if anyone was in the back, called Avis national, Avis customer service, the location's phone number, the manager's phone number (which was just the generic line again), and emailed the manager. The guy then pops out from the back closet all of a sudden without any apology and says "it happens". Still never admitted fault. Don't rent from this location and absolute screw from Avis today on New Year's Eve.

OK, I'm giving two stars rather than one, because the car itself was fine and got me where I needed…read moreto go. BUT, I will never rent from Avis again. 1. When I ordered the car online, I first saw a price that looked very reasonable. I was about to click the button but I saw a message suggesting I sign up for membership to get an even better price. So I went to do that, and when I came back to order a car the price had doubled. I was afraid it would keep going up, so I just went ahead with it. Then the next day I was still bugged by this so I called customer service. The guy told me I should be able to get the original price, but he couldn't do it -- I'd have to bring it up when I returned the car after my rental. He promised me that he made a note about it and gave me a case #. 2. Went to pick up the car. The "intermediate" class car I'd reserved was no available. The woman at the counter offered me a mini-van. I did not want that because a) I wanted a trunk b) fuel cost c) Don't want to navigate around with a mini-van. Only when I suggested I could wait did she investigate and say a car would be available in half an hour. It ended up being an hour, but I was given a compact. This is smaller than the Intermediate I'd reserved, but she refused to lower my rate and insisted I had ordered "economy." I have the email to prove she's wrong. 3. The trunk button on the remote did not work, but I could open trunk from inside the car. Not that big of a deal, but, just another detail. 4. I had reserved/pre-paid the car for 3 days and indicated a time I expected to return it. On that day, I realized I'd need to keep it a few more hours. The rental price is per day, not per hour. But I called just to be helpful to let them know I'd be a little late in case that impacted another customer. I was told by Avis Customer Service that I'd have to pay for an additional day. I had little choice, so I accepted this. 5. When I returned the car, this woman was very nice and professional, but told me she could not handle issue #1. That I should call customer service. But she said my problem happened to customers all the time and I should get a reduction in price. ALSO: she told me #4 was a lie and indeed I was not getting charged extra. So, good news, but the call-center customer service sucks. 6. When I finally got home I called customer service about Issue #1. I was told that there was no note promising a price reduction, so he could not help me. He told me he could escalate it, and a supervisor would reach out to me within a few days. Nobody reached out to me. In short: The car was fine, but you can't trust their customer service. Never use Avis.

BE AWARE OF SCAM!! HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE…read more I reserved a full size SUV a few days ago. When I first arrived I was told my car is not available. However, there was a woman at the counter who claimed to be the manager said they could swap it with a EV with no additional cost. I was fine with the replacement but confused about the "additional cost" she was referring to. I knew the EV costs less. So I asked for a price difference refund because at the time that I booked my car, EV was $30 cheaper than the SUV. She refused and bluntly lied to me multiple times: 1) she said the EV is more expensive. When I corrected her and showed her the online quote of both cars for a later date since all inventories that day were fully booked so she had no proof, she said whatever price I saw online in the past has "expired" and she will only reference today's price which was not even available. I told her if I wanted to book an EV I could've done it a few days ago on a much cheaper price. I decided not to as I am traveling with my 2 year old so making stops to charge is less ideal. It was not my fault that the car I booked was not available so why would I have to take a financial loss to cover their mistake? She simply blamed the website. She then kept repeating herself asking me to reference to "today's rate" which was nowhere to be found. 2) she walked away and came back and started saying she tried to reach out to me in advance but the phone number on file was invalid. Later that day, when I called the Avis customer service to file a complaint, the service representative explicitly confirmed my cell number on file was correct. On the other side, this location never picked up their phone calls. There were two other groups of people at the same time in the office with me who were having the same issue - ordered an SUV but were offered to swap to an EV. The option was either wait an hour for the SUV (I was not even offered this option) or get the EV right away with "no additional cost" (keep in mind EV costs less). This could be a new way for them to rip off people by having their customers to pay more for a cheaper rental. DO NOT RENT A CAR FROM THAT LOCATION OR BE READY FOR YOUR TRAVEL PLAN TO BE RUINED.
