This Enterprise went above and beyond for us on our wedding weekend. We had extended family come in from all over and need cars fast. We didn't think of reservations at the time, but we took our chance to see if we could get a car/van. Not surprised to know they had nothing in stock, BUT the manager did some digging for us and got us a car, that day, with no reservation! We just had to wait another hour for it to be delivered. That would easily give them 5 stars in my book! But we aren't done yet! My Dad returned the car half-full on gas and the same manager told us not to worry about it! As you know, you're supposed to return the vehicle with the same amount of gas when you first started the rental or you will be hit with some fees. Again, he said not to worry about it and just have a nice day. This Enterprise is definitely the place to go if you want great service and a professional relationship. Kudos! I went into Enterprise on a Saturday before holiday and it was naturally crazy because everyone is headed out of town. This review is for Mel! I'm assuming she's the manager the way she handled the crowd. She was answering phones, making calls to get cars and helping customers, talk about multi-tasking! I was getting over the flu and getting ready for a big relo to LA, she was so polite and helpful. She made sure I was on my way as soon as possible, with excellent service and in a very comfortable car. I really hate that my insurance deals with Enterprise. However, it's a means of transportation to get to work. Here's my story. The boy/girl that works the front desk is horrible. My car was hit and my insurance picked up the first 30 days days. The at fault policy holders insurance took over/responsibility of the the car accident. The at faults party took over the rental. State Farm (the at fault parties insurance) called Enterprise and notified them. State Farm offered to upgrade my vehicle so I called the next day to notify Enterprise I would be upgrading. The boy/girl stated that if I wanted to upgrade I would have to pay another $200.00 deposit. For me that wasn't feasible. Especially, after they already had a $200.00 hold for the current rental. She fasted talked me and I asked to speak to the branch manager. She said "There going to tell you the same thing". I said "That's fine I don't see the need to pay you another $200.00 when you already have a hold on $200.00 for the current rental". She stated that if I wanted to stay in the rental I'm in all they had to do was switch the paperwork. Cool I told her I'll just stay in the current vehicle. She said okay and I hung up. Last week (3 weeks later) I get a call and she is now telling me I have to sign the new paperwork. I was a little irritated because you smart mouth people and fast talk them but couldn't tell me I had paperwork to sign. No biggie. I show up today stood an hour in line for her to say not only do I have to sign paperwork she had to do an inspection of the car and I had to pay another $200.00 deposit for the rental. I became irritated. I don't know if she's slow or what but she always seems to either leave out information or there's a change in what she says. Im telling her it really makes no sense to give you $200.00 when you already have a hold on $200.00. It's going to the same person off of the same card. She says (in front of the whole branch l) "Of you don't have the funds you can always move the money over and come back tomorrow". Like what???!!!! Who's says that?! It's not about the money it makes no sense. Im giving you $400.00 basically until the $200.00 hold comes off. There should be a more logical practical way to deposits that involve insurance companies. There should be a way to switch the deposit to the new contract. To be given the wrong information is very frustrating. I told her when I talked to you, you said if I stay in the current rental there would be no $200.00 deposit. She didn't say anything. Just have a dumb look. I asked for corporates number and she says again "They're going to tell you to pay". I said the problem is you. When I spoke to you you said no extra deposit was needed because I'm staying in the car. I said you fast talk people that you don't take the time to listen or respond with truthful answers. She gave me corporates number. As I walked away she said she was putting a flag on the account and the car would be reported as stolen in 24 hours. Not only that the car was never cleaned. Pieces of weed debris were in the inside door handle. Also the car was most likely broken into prior to me renting it. Broken glass was on the back floor mat. The tire pressure continues to pop up for the front left tire. I can't wait to get my personal vehicle back. I hate Enterprise. read more

So I came to this location had made a reservation two days in advance . When I got there the lady Alejandra told me I was late which I was only 7 minutes late which I thought was a joke but she was serious so I already think she didn't like me. I gave all proper documents and was at the payment stage my card was declined because of a common theft protection which I confirmed with my bank but then was told I could not rent from them anymore because I can't use the same card within 24 hours. That is the dumbest policy ever I should have been warned. There has to be another way I can't be the only costumer this happens to she rudely told me there was nothing she can do there was too many reservations to deal with my issue. Enterprise as a whole needs to fix this issue and Alejandra needs to watch her attitude towards costumers! read more

What's not to like about having a high wuality, repsonsive car rental location in the neighborhood? I have been an Enterprise customer for many years (wherever I've been -- East or West Coast and in between), finding their entire management, training and welcoming attitude several grades above other car rental companies. There is a more personal quality about Enterprise and it shows at this location. Though small, the San Pablo office near Virginia in Berkeley is, first of all, very easy to access -- and provides terrific, customer-focused service; specifically, this included Kyle's assuring I got the car I wanted, providing a free of charge upgrade(which made a very big difference for a long trip) and on checking back in after 8 days, Mel was one of the more efficient and friendly people you could want to meet after a 1300 mile drive! I not only remain an Enterprise customer, but feel reaffirmed in my long-standing loyalty to the company. Thanks guys!!! read more

I rented a Hyundai Elantra with full coverage insurance. pros: I could leave the shop in 10min. with a car though I had made a reservation 30 minutes earlier. I called Enterprise Rent-A-Car the day before my spring break trip to Yosemite to confirm that, similarly to the Oxford St. location, I could use a combination of my debit card and UC-Berkeley student ID in place of a credit card. They said I could do so. Well on the day of my trip, after booking a hotel and getting everything raring to go, I walk over to San Pablo Ave., and these reptiles contradict themselves and say that I can't rent a car without a credit card. Still, today, Tyler spent a great deal of time helping me with information which I needed in order to be reimbursed by my insurance company. He even talked with my insurance adjuster. I wish I read the reviews before It made my reservation. They are full of excuses! They don't care. The person on the phone set up the reservation said the Daly City staff would pick me up. He told me if I was cut off to dial directly and press four and I would be connected to staff. I was disconnected and called them back at which point they told me they would not pick me up and I was outside of the area. I live five miles from the store. I asked to speak with a manager. He said I was within the area, and he told me he received my reservation and said he needed 30 minutes warning. I told them I made the reservation and order to pick me up. I rented a car here for 5 days while getting my car fixed. Rates: pretty reasonable. I asked for the insurance rate (even though I didn't go through my insurance) Service: I had to wait a bit to be picked up from the body shop, but it was fine. It happened to be raining that day, so understood that everything takes longer. They had overall great service. Cars: the car I received had remnants of a smoker in it. yukky. I didn't have time to wait for another car or bring it back since it felt gross to me. I called to complain and they gave me a 10% discount off the rental and when I returned the car they gave me an additional small discount. Fair enough. I'm having a similar experience to Erik S.. First, they weren't able to pick me up from the shop where my car was being fixed. The people from the shop, who offered great customer service, gave me a ride there though. I forgot my GPS, IPOD and Fastrak in the car. Well, actually my husband took the car back and didn't know the things were in the glove compartment. The lady who inspected the car rented the car to another person in the next 15 minutes and didn't see the things in there, rented the car with the stuff in it. Now, she probably didn't even check if the registration was still in the glove compartment. They do not care if you forgot anything in there. They won't call you to let you know they have your things which I find really careless. The front desk people are actually slightly rude. They make it seem like they never have time for you. I had to rent a car this summer when my car was in the shop having a new hood placed on it when someone backed up into to me. So I had to rent a car and this was the closest place to where I live that the insurance company had a deal with. So I came here. I got a nice little red car--I'm sorry I'm terrible with models and it is totally escaping me now. This place looks a bit run down from the outside. It is on San Pablo which is not the most appealing part of Berkeley, but the guys who work here are all really nice. The main guy who helped me--who has really cool eyes by the way--helped me into my car, was a big hel,p asked about my accident and everything. When I returned my car the old guy who works in the back noticed that I left a folder in the car with some work stuff and ran it up to me before I left. The car I got was clean and I had no problems with it. It was the best part of having to rent a car. I would highly recommend it. read more

This Enterprise location is wonderful! I was able to show up and easily pickup my rental (they even upgraded me just because!). When I called to return I was concerned that I wouldn't make it before they close at 6pm. The guy I spoke with, Alexis, was so helpful - he offered to stay until 6:20pm to make sure I could make it on time! I ended up getting there before closing hours (I'm sure he appreciated that) and even though they offered me a ride home I decided to walk. I had a horrible experience doing business with this enterprise outlet. When I sought to rent a car from them this fall, I was told they did not have anyone to come pick me up but that if I drove my car to their outlet, i could park out front and that my car would be safe. I followed their advice and when I returned two days later, I found that one of my car's window had been broken out and my car had been ransacked. I asked the manager to pay for my losses which he agreed to do and failed to follow through. They gave me the royal run around and basically squelched their offer and responsibility to assist me. Two nights before I am supposed to make the drive out to Tahoe with a friend for my family reunion I found out that my ride was backing out! Super stressed out, i endlessly looked for a good deal for a car rental. My little Honda Civic just wouldn't make it for the journey. Enterprise had a decent deal, considering I'm not yet 25. First thing Thursday morning i call them up, praying that they have something available for me to pick up that day. Not only do they have something available, but the manager who I spoke with was super cool. I had a few issues that I thought would get in the way of renting the car, but he was willing to work with me. I got there to pick the car up a bit early since I walked from my apartment. From the moment I walked in I was acknowledged. I was thankful that I didn't have to wait 20 minutes just to fill out the paper work. When they brought be out to my rental, it was this huge xterra! I'm a little girl who is used to driving a little car, so I knew this wasn't going to work. With the price of gas, and considering it was just me, this car was totally unnecessary. I was worried that I would be stuck with it since this is a small location and it didn't look like they had other cars in the lot. It was no problem! They just switched the cars and off I went in a sedan. Come Monday morning when I dropped the car off there was no delay. They even asked me if I needed a ride back to my apt! I spent $350 for a car that i picked up Thursday afternoon and returned Monday morning. I thought that this was way decent, since it included the $100 I spent on insurance and $75 it cost me because I'm yet to be 25. I definitely recommend coming here if you need a rental because the customer service was superior. I know that I'll call them first if I ever need to rent a car again. read more

While Enterprise was a bit more expensive than U-HAUL, the convenience and improved customer service made up for the difference. The location is great but I have never not had to wait a very long time for my car. Today I even came in hours early to get my rental and there are very few people and it's still taking over 20 min. Its regularly taken more than 30 min. It's ridiculous to wait this long when you have a reservation and there isn't a huge line. If my work allowed me to rent from elsewhere I would never come here again. read more

Short Version: If you are going to rent a car, don't go to any other Enterprise because you need to come here. Ask for Chloe Johnson. Longer Version: In January I was debating about renting a car or driving my own car (it is very reliable) to LA. A few days before I called Enterprise on Ashby and Shattuck and they quoted a $16/day for a fiat. I didn't reserve at that time. I walked over there on the day I wanted to rent a car and the guy quoted a $46/day price along with $30-60 for insurance and acted incredibly pretentious and rude. It was really bad customer service. I asked if there was anything else cheaper and he told me, without even looking at me cause he was busy on the computer, "no, you'll need to go elsewhere." I walked out without even turning back and I will be writing a bad review for them later. 20 minutes later I called the Enterprise on San Pablo and this real sweet gal picked up the phone. We spoke about what I needed and she was very accomodating. She gave me very reasonable prices for last minute and I quote her, "We will get you set up with everything you need." - and she sure did. I told her I was commuting far and she offered to pick me up at the BART station. I thought that was an incredible gesture, even though I didn't take her up on the offer. When I got there, she was as warm in person as she was on the phone. We chatted for a bit while doing the paper work and she gave me a lot of really good suggestions for where I was traveling. This was really helpful cause I had never been to Santa Barbara and was looking for some really good restaurants. When I got the car, she inspected it for scratches and checked the gas. It was empty on gas and she offered to have someone fill it up for me before I took it. I declined and said I would save them time and man power and I would fill it on my own. She said I can return it empty as it was found. A few days later I returned it with about half a tank of gas. I wasn't even going to ask for a reimbursement but Chloe, without me asking or hinting anything, reimbursed me for the half tank of gas. I can't even explain to you how thoughtful she is. She has excellent communication skills and customer service skills. She gave me her business card as I was departing and I found out that she was the manager. That is no surprise to me because she is phenomenal. Go here and rent your cars from this place, I sure know I will too. read more

Terrible service. The car I reserved was not available. They had me wait for a vehicle to be returned, washed, and sanitized. Took over 40 minutes. Yet, someone else that arrived after me was offered a complimentary upgrade because they didn't have the car they reserved. When I inquired about it, I was offered a smaller vehicle than what I reserved. They said the upgrade would be six classes up which wasn't true. Had a surprisingly good experience here. I came here to pick up a rental, which was part of an insurance claim since my car was in the shop. They didn't have much of a selection when I came in, they gave me a chevy which I felt quite uncomfortable driving. I gave them a call the next day requesting a prius or a compact size car, and they assured me that they would call me back if a compact comes up. I didnt expect much out of the call since I'm used to rental car companies giving empty promises. But sure enough, early the next morning, she called me back and told me to come and choose a new car. I then picked up a brand new corolla and was much happier with the ride. The manager (?), Chloe, was very helpful and kind. I've been jaded by shady rental companies and practices in the past, so it was a relief that she actually provided great customer service! read more

STAY AWAY FROM THIS ENTERPRISE--and possibly others as well! Have you ever left a car rental business car-less and sobbing, unable to get to a crucial meeting for your business? This was the worst, and most humiliating, car rental experience I have had in my life, thanks to "assistant management in training," Huy Do, and his manager trainer. Here is why I will from this point forward steer clear of Enterprise If you want to use a debit card, forget it. You will be demeaned and humiliated. Enterprise has ridiculously restrictive policies for debit card use compared to most other car rental companies. This puts a burden on their employees to have to justify bad policy and overall company lack of concern with customer service. To use a debit card here you will need to provide not only the usual documentation, such as driver's license and insurance, but also a utility bill showing a zero balance. I repeat: A utility bill that includes proof of address--such as PG&E or EBMUD--showing ZERO balance due on your bill. How many people receive a bill stating they owe nothing? I demonstrated to the person behind the counter that I had just paid the utility bill and actually had a $55 credit according to the website. I also provided documents showing I had met all of the other criteria for using a debit card as stated in their debit card policy guidelines posted on the counter. I had to actually hand the person behind the counter my phone, showing my personal bill and information, and they continued to insist that because the bill showed a balance--the bill I had just paid--they could not rent me a car. This process was already humiliating and demeaning enough. Then, after I repeatedly pointed out that I met all of the requirements stated as company policy for debit card car rental, Manager-in-Training Huy Do still insisted he could not rent a car to me. "Why?" I asked repeatedly. Do responded: "I don't feel comfortable renting to you," with insinuations that I was somehow a "risk" of some sort. I'm a 56 year-old woman. I raised two sons who are studying engineering and psychology respectively, am a university professor, own a business and a non-profit organization, and have written books, produced documentary films, and have numerous published articles in both scholarly journals and in popular press. I'm regularly interviewed on radio, in print, both nationally and internationally. This is not to boast. Everyone should be treated with decency and respect, regardless of their accomplishments. But Huy Do treated me as if I was a sub-standard human being not worthy of renting a car. Do was acting as if I was going to use the car to rob a bank. When I repeatedly asked him why he would not rent me the car despite the fact that I met company requirements. He had no clear answer. At one point he even stated he didn't want to rent to me because I was late picking up the car. Late picking up the car? Yes, I reserved it for 8:30 and came to get it at 11 for a 2 pm meeting in Sonoma. But where is the requirement that you have to pick up a car at a certain time? Other work precluded me getting their earlier. Do we now need to offer explanations to car rental "manager in training" clerks as to why we're late? I then realized this was personal. For him, rather than understanding that I was in a hurry to get to a very important meeting and that he could have chosen to just provide me with a car and let me be on my way. He decided to be a jerk because he could. This was a power trip for him. His supervisor came back from lunch within the hour-and-a-half I was there. Again, rather than providing customer service, she declared "I have to side with my employee." Screw customer service. Screw even following the draconian debit card requirements clearly outlined on the desk--requirements I met. There was no good reason for any of this. I left the San Pablo office in complete frustration and despair. Outside the office, as I was getting into the shuttle to take me to another Enterprise office, I broke down shaking and sobbing, and frantic I would miss a very important meeting. I couldn't believe that a business that is supposed to provide a service for people could treat their customers so horribly, and possibly even sabotage my business opportunities. The driver took me to the Oxford/University office in Berkeley, where I was able to rent a car and use my debit card and show my same documents without incident. The person at the Oxford Enterprise saw I had been crying when I walked in, and showed true concern. He, at least, was a human being. From now on, I won't risk using Enterprise, however. It's a crap shoot whether you get someone like Huy Do and his manager, or a human being. read more

I literally felt like tearing up of how polite, professional, and helpful the branch manager Alejandra Marquez is. I rented a car in LA, drove it all the way to the Bay Area and then realized that the LA branch did not set up my drop off in Berkeley, but back to the LA location. I called corporate 5 times, they said they'd just call me back and NOTHING. Called LA, they said I had to take the car back or drop it off super far and pay like double than the original rental. Until I called Berkeley and Alejandra without any hesitation was willing to help. Some thing that NOT even corporate did. Mrs Marquez said "Bring it in, ask for me and I'll be more than happy to help you." And just like that, I brought the car in, she checked it, and I paid only what the rental was supposed to be. The rental process was straightforward, the reps were nice and helpful. I didn't love the car I got (Dodge Avenger), but it had its selling points -- maybe good for another person. (I didn't know enough about cars to know what to ask for.) Prices are not bad in general (about $225/week), but I got bitten by the young drivers fee. I think that with a perfect driving record since 17, I should be given more credit. The additional fee, $15/day, added up to nearly 1/2 of what I pay Progressive to insure my motorcycle for a year. But, I had important stuff to get done, to the point where cost was not an issue. So, it was nice that this Enterprise was there to fill a need, and gave me no hassle. read more

This is a great place to rent a car. My personal car needed to be repaired and I needed a rental in the meantime. Shawn (Assistant Manager) picked me up from the body shop where I dropped off my car, helped with the (very minimal) paperwork and I was out of there in a matter of minutes. That same evening he called to inquire how I like the car and if there are any issues or questions. The return process was equally smooth and Shawn was kind enough to give me a ride back to the body shop, where I picked up my personal car. Alex was kind enough to bump me up to a compact size ...but wait...Gene noticed that I can upgrade the car to the Malibu for a small change! So here goes the Malibu for 5 days!! Despite getting a written confirmation that my car would be rented from that location it was boarded up. I get that things happen. But the "manager" who answered my call was the rudest person - bar none - I have ever encountered. He hung up on me. I called back then he told me it was my fault that that the reservation was wrong, would not apologize, and then told me there were no trucks available for rent in the entire region. When I went back online and reserved the car I wanted - he emailed me that he had canceled it. I hear Enterprise is going out of business - good riddance. Friendly staff and clean cars. I feel like all the Enterprises for the most part have really stepped up their service levels. The guys and gals here are always very friendly and I'm in and out very quickly. If you don't have all your ducks in a row though (i.e. no cc to hold and pay for the rental) then I can see how you may leave with a different experience than mine.
