So quick for the updated review, but I recently returned and same quick service, but this time, instead of a downgrade when they didn't have my car, they gave me the upgrade. Clearly, it's based on inventory and what they have in the lot. I needed to rent a car again and this time I went with the cheaper option of the Toyota vs the Jetta and again, no Toyota or Jetta insight. But this time, instead of the downgrade they offered me a BMW! Still a bit annoying, since at least in the case of the sedan, you just don't know what you're going to get. But, at least I was balling out for the day. To note: this was only a 1 day rental. Again, it's pretty inexpensive for a day rental if you need a rental car and very fast and efficient when checking in and dropping off. I have the pro-tip down now which works for me. read more

Incompetent, rude, infuriating. From the moment I stepped in the door, I was greeted with contempt. How dare I just expect them to have the car the insurance company reserved ON A FRIDAY. And of course they didn't have time to call me in the 90 minutes since the reservation came in. Said they would probably have cars at four, but no matter what time I came I would have to wait, they didn't care that. I had to get back to my vehicle at the Body Shop and get the car seat before 5:00 so I can do daycare pick up. This lady WALKED AWAY FROM ME, out the back before we even figured out the situation. I am in an Uber now, on my own dime, going back miles in the direction I came, towards the body shop further away from my home to another Enterprise where I was promised that I would have to wait. This turned what should have been a quick pickup into a whole morning wasted. Most unpleasant and unprofessional rental car interaction I can remember. read more

I rented a car from here in a pinch and got great customer service from Tony. I found dealing with him to be pleasant and stress-free. He was patient with me while I got my paperwork together at a time when I was already flustered about having my car in for repairs. He helped me understand my options and answered all my questions. My partner used his car insurance to make a reservation with this location. Although the first issue was entirely on my partner (his temporary license had expired), once he finally obtained a new copy we called this location to confirm (1) they had available cars and (2) that we were on our way. Once we got there, the person who helped my partner (didn't get his name) said that we needed to call first. Jokes on you - we did. And his teammate likely didn't even mention that we did call ahead. Within the 10 minutes it took from our phone call informing them we were on our way to when we got there, the remaining car was promised to someone else. They wasted our time entirely and I absolutely do not recommend this place for your rental needs. I'd suggest going to the Enterprise on San Pablo in Berkeley or Broadway in Oakland. This location lacks professionalism and has no regard for courtesy. Go elsewhere! read more

Excellent service from Brent and Jared, I had pre ordered an elite sedan but when I arrived there were none, so Brent called around and Jared went and got one from another Enterprise close by, turned out the elite sedans cargo space was insufficient for my purposes so I asked about upgrading to a large SUV on the lot and without skipping a beat they got me set up in an SUV and got me on my way ASAP. I was dealing with a car accident that wasn't my fault and this was extra work for me, but during pick up and drop off it was smooth sailing. Clean car and brand new! Rented a car from here for 2 weeks and while pick up and drop off were relatively easy, the most annoying part was trying to get ANY kind of help in between then regarding our reservation. Basically, do NOT expect to get helpful assistance on the phone or even via chat. We tried to adjust our rental after picking up the car, and even though they tell you they are flexible, they don't adjust your price!!! Even though if you call, they'll promise and swear that everything will be updated for a lower price. So we paid $120 more than we were expecting to on the day of the return, and $180 more than I wanted to since I had planned to return even earlier, but was unable to due to lack of after hours drop off. On the phone, anytime we called after we had made our reservation, there were long wait times, once we simply got disconnected after 30 minutes on hold and then a robot telling us we couldn't be connected and to try later. Three times we got connected to humans who then gave us WRONG information. One person gave us price quotes and information about returning our car on two days when the car rental office wasn't even open, so when we went to return the car, we couldn't! So we were surprised by 2 extra days of rental fees. The last time we called, we got someone who promised to both email us a confirmation and call us back about the price difference. NADA. On chat, the robot made us wait over an hour once before connecting us, at which point I'd given up and left my computer. The reason for 2 stars is because when I did return my car, the person working with us (shout out to Justin at the Shattuck Ave location in Berkeley) gave me a ride back to our Airbnb so I didn't have to Lyft. read more

I had the best experience at Enterprise this past week! My car was in the shop, so my insurance covered a rental for me. I got there and the process to get my car was smooth and very pleasant. It was busy that day and I could tell a lot of people felt a bit frustrated with having to wait, but I have to give props to the associates/managers helping everyone at the time. Everyone working was patient and kind! Then through the week I had the car, my rental car window was smashed... & guess what! Letasha was so sweet through the process of my claim. So during this whole experience I did not have a single bad experience with them. I saw the renters getting irritated but they didn't break! And THAT is what I call customer service and I will definitely be renting from this center again! My rental car was clean, it smelled good, I got a Clorox wipe to disinfect my car before getting in it... it was just AMAZING! Thank you Enterprise On Shattuck for your hard work! I'm a regular at this car rental agency. The primary reason is that I can't seem to find better rates and they are located less than a mile from me. They do provide drop off service (and pick up, supposedly), which is nice. However, they barely earn a 3-star rating from me. I have several suggestions for them to get a 5 star rating: 1) They give you a wire key ring with 2 non-detachable keys. if you want to detach one, you will have to have a pair of wire cutters handy. I didn't notice until yesterday morning when I was about to run a 10k race and consequently had to hold both keys and the fob during my run. I mentioned this to Ryan (a new employee) and he told me that I should have cut the key ring and acted surprised I didn't have access to wire cutters. He said they tell their clients this but I have NEVER been told this in the countless times I've rented here. I told him that probably 99% of their female clients do not have wire cutters "handy". I personally do not own them nor would I be carrying them in my purse! Suggestion: Have detachable keys or put a pair of wire cutters in the glove compartment. Inform customers about this. 2) They are located directly across the street from two gas stations, yet they never give you a car with a full tank. They say that only the airport agencies do this because they have a gas filling station on site. When I pointed out that there are TWO gas stations about 100 feet away from them, the next reason became that they only have a gas card that allows them to fill a maximum of four gallons. WTH?! Getting a car with 3/8 of a tank is inconvenient because you have to fill your tank before a long trip AND try to refill it to the exact same place in your tank upon returning it. Suggestion: Give the customers a full tank of gas. 3) They have inconsistent policies. I was told that "all Enterprise car rental agencies" use the wire key rings, which seemed to be the reason they do this. On another policy (not accepting debit cards), we were told that some rental agencies allow this and some don't. Suggestion: Either be consistent. Or don't. 4) I've found some of the staff overly intrusive with their questions. They are borderline nosy when asking about your plans for the weekend. One of the employees asked me where I was going, what I was going to be doing, and who I was going with. I find this annoying and intrusive because it's really none of their business! Suggestion: Stop with the personal questions, unless it's initiated by the customer. 5) I just joined their Enterprise Plus program after countless rentals. I was never told of this program by any of the staff, nor encouraged to. Pretty surprised about this. The staff don't seem to know much about the program, when I asked. Suggestion: Train employees on the Enterprise Plus program. Encourage customers to become members, especially if they're regulars. For the most part, the staff is very courteous and friendly and I do believe they are trying their best. The feedback listed above addresses some areas which they could easily improve. read more

Not going to lie....I don't like the location because it's small and crowded and yes there is some waiting involved when you are picking up the car. I had to get a rental because my car was at a body shop. They picked me up from the auto body Shoppe and brought me to their location. At first the selection of cars available sucked....I got stuck w a Nissan Armada....that's a big car for me. Thankfully Derek promised me he would get a smaller car for me when I came back. I dropped off my car to an auto body shop nearby and come to pick up my rental car which was reserved by my insurance company. After the representative told me to show my driving license, I showed them the paper work of my "temporary license" as I just renewed my license two weeks ago and hasn't received the physical one it from dmv. Then they said they don't accept the "TEMPORARY DRIVER LICENSE" and refused to rent me a car. What the hell was that? DMV gave me the temporary license which I don't have any choice then the manager came and gave me the explanation that they do accept INTERIM DRIVING LICENSE other than TEMPORARY which is definitely a shit. BTW the attitude of the manager was bad and rude. NEVER Come back to enterprise again. Stay away from it read more

I had to rent a larger car for the weekend and decided to rent through Enterprise since I get a discounted rate through UC Berkeley. This was the only location that had a minivan available. Unfortunately, I had a last minute change of plans and instead needed an 8 seater rather than 7. Juan was super accommodating and was able to get me a full size SUV. The car was well equipped, with touchscreen navigation, dual zone climate control, great speakers, and a panoramic parking camera, the last of which was super helpful when parking such a big car. I had absolutely no wait booking or returning the car, which has never been the case when I rented cars in the past. Beware of angry, frustrated manager that really shouldn't be working in a customer facing role. My car was was at the nearby dealership for repair, and I returned my rental car here after a great experience @San Pablo enterprise. I watched the manager angrily deal with a customer on the phone by hanging up on her and cussing under his breath. I had my dog with me (short hair and very little shedding). The manager angrily calls the San Pablo enterprise to whine that there's excessive dog hair without even first inspecting the car. I cut him off and requested that he look at the vehicle first. He sees that it was very little pet hair, and then proceeds to change his story to how members after me could have let allergies. I told him I understood, apologized, and will remember this in the future. Yet I received no apology for his demeanor nor his exaggeration of the cleaning problem. Manager is great at belittling the customer to make himself feel like a real man. Great job! read more

I am car-free by choice and get around just fine with public transit, bike, and either ZipCar or rentals. I'll do rentals for the weekend when I have a bunch of errands to run because they are more cost-effective than hourly rates through ZipCar. Earlier this year I decided to rent a car for the weekend and I thought I had booked a car at this Enterprise to get an advanced reservation discount online but when I showed up one Saturday morning they could not find my reservation. I could not find my e-mail confirmation either. Who knows what happened. I swear I had booked it but maybe I never completed the reservation because I was multitasking or maybe the internets ate it? In any case you can imagine my dismay when the day-of rate was almost twice as much as online. And I was in a bind. I had an appointment to get to but there weren't any conveniently located ZipCars that were free and public transit would take me twice the time. I went ahead and took the cheapest car they had available. I asked if they would give me the online rate if I could find the e-mail confirmation and they said yes. I was unable to find it in my spam or trash folder. The gentleman I worked with empathized with me and was pretty much, awesome. There was less than a quarter tank of gas and he told me I could return it empty and that I wouldn't get charged. Also, when I returned the car, he ended up giving me a discount. I feel lucky because I know this is not usual and don't want to set up the expectation that this is going to happen to everyone who goes to this location; I share this to demonstrate the great customer service I experienced! I will definitely be back but this time make SURE I really book the damn car online and confirm it with an e-mail. read more

Poor customer service. Poorest I have ever experienced, especially for being in the customer service area. The guy there was rude and sure didn't care about selling any of the cars cause he wouldn't even look at me because he was too busy with his computer. The guy told me something along the lines of "Go to another place," without even talking to me about other options or cars they had. I'd highly recommend San Pablo's branch. And to reply to Joy K.'s comment below, Chloe is an awesome manager, and she is no longer at the Shattuck branch, she went to San Pablos. "Irregardless" actually is a word. Maybe you should get your nose out of the air and stop being a snob.
