I am car-free by choice and get around just fine with public transit, bike, and either ZipCar or rentals. I'll do rentals for the weekend when I have a bunch of errands to run because they are more cost-effective than hourly rates through ZipCar. Earlier this year I decided to rent a car for the weekend and I thought I had booked a car at this Enterprise to get an advanced reservation discount online but when I showed up one Saturday morning they could not find my reservation. I could not find my e-mail confirmation either. Who knows what happened. I swear I had booked it but maybe I never completed the reservation because I was multitasking or maybe the internets ate it? In any case you can imagine my dismay when the day-of rate was almost twice as much as online. And I was in a bind. I had an appointment to get to but there weren't any conveniently located ZipCars that were free and public transit would take me twice the time. I went ahead and took the cheapest car they had available. I asked if they would give me the online rate if I could find the e-mail confirmation and they said yes. I was unable to find it in my spam or trash folder. The gentleman I worked with empathized with me and was pretty much, awesome. There was less than a quarter tank of gas and he told me I could return it empty and that I wouldn't get charged. Also, when I returned the car, he ended up giving me a discount. I feel lucky because I know this is not usual and don't want to set up the expectation that this is going to happen to everyone who goes to this location; I share this to demonstrate the great customer service I experienced! I will definitely be back but this time make SURE I really book the damn car online and confirm it with an e-mail. read more

Poor customer service. Poorest I have ever experienced, especially for being in the customer service area. The guy there was rude and sure didn't care about selling any of the cars cause he wouldn't even look at me because he was too busy with his computer. The guy told me something along the lines of "Go to another place," without even talking to me about other options or cars they had. I'd highly recommend San Pablo's branch. And to reply to Joy K.'s comment below, Chloe is an awesome manager, and she is no longer at the Shattuck branch, she went to San Pablos. "Irregardless" actually is a word. Maybe you should get your nose out of the air and stop being a snob. We inquired about upgrading, and she was very helpful, and got us set up without a headache or too much time taken discussing minute details. Do not rent here. Inept peope work at this location. When they make a mistake, the come-back excuse is "oh, he's new and must have misinformed you." The SUV I was renting had a guy sleeping in it before they handed over the keys. Don't you guys have a break room? There's a bus stop on the corner... The seat, stearing wheel and seatbelt smelled like cheap Walgreens, CVS or Rite Aid cologne. I had to febreeze it and then wipe down the stearing wheel. These guys also work the Emeryville location so beware... nonsense awaits. If you absolutely, positively have to use Enterprise, choose a different location and hope you don't get stuck with the rotation of mindless people. Do not let suit and tie fool you. read more

Great location, close to UC campus and to Berkeley BART. I've only used this place once, but everything was fine: The car was ready to go and in great shape, and the staff were helpful and nice. The one thing I hate is that the car doesn't come with a full tank of gas, and you're supposed to return it with a like amount. It's a ploy to squeeze a few more pennies out of you, and it cheapens the whole experience. read more

Unfortunately I couldn't agree more with the bad ratings for the Enterprise location. It saddens me to write this review, in the past a really helpful assistant Sarah worked there, but she's now at another branch and I've found the new staff to be incredibly rude. I've rented cars from Enterprise for around 3 years and spent thousands of dollars on long term rentals, but I doubt I'll rent there again after I return my current vehicle. My bad experiences began because I really wanted to rent a specific model of car and they seemed to be put out that I kept checking back to see if the car was in the fleet. If it had been a short term rental, I wouldn't care - but I typically rent cars for 3 months at a time, so I do care what car I drive. If only this branch of Enterprise cared about that. I agree with Claudia M. they completely act fake.. I even got yelled at by (name removed), blonde guy with rosy cheeks one time - I felt really upset about this. The manager did make it up to me by offering me a great deal on my new rental, but this came at a price. The last time I went in there to get the new car - he was pulling faces and making fun of me with the other assistant in front of my face and he was the manager of the store. The employees are slick, they have an answer for everything and the manager actually asks every customer to agree to complete a survey with a "perfect" rating. I'm actually doubling the stars because I'll acknowledge my culpability in the near-debacle. Through the magic of Craigslist, I had found kitchen cabinets that would work in my remodel, but they were located in Aptos. I called moving companies (many from Yelp), but the cost was prohibitive given the distance. That called for self-labor, and so the next move was looking for a truck or van to haul myself (and finding a pliable friend with a good back). Unfortunately, the per-mile charge that places like U-Haul charges makes even a relatively short trip like Aptos-0akland economically unfeasible. So, the next best thing is a car rental place, and Enterprise has cargo vans, a very reasonable rate, and unlimited miles. I called to reserve, and since I haven't rented a van in ages, it didn't occur to me to be suspicious when the woman got my name, telephone number, but didn't ask for a credit card for a reservation. I coordinate with my friend with the pliable strong back, I arrange the pick-up time with the cabinet owners, and I fix the drop-off time for my cabinet-maker who will refinish the objects. A finely tuned operation. I arrive at 11am Saturday, the time of my appointment, and see a cargo van. One cargo van. A woman is talking with the rental clerk, and she leaves in this van. Do I get a sinking feeling? Perhaps. Do I resist a mild temptation to fling myself under its wheels, shrieking "Mine!" I do -- I am a civilized being. I go to the desk, all very fine young attractive specimens. As comely as these people are, this doesn't soften the bad news: There Is No Record of a Reservation. The customer service does kick in: They call multiple offices to see if anyone will admit taking my call (a female, I insist -- I even had the exact time I called thanks to cell phone technology). No one fesses up. They call around their offices for an alternative. They warn me it doesn't look good, but they gamely try for alternatives, like a pick-up truck. Meanwhile, the best thing that Enterprise office ends up offering is a Yellow Pages. I call Doherty, the saviors-in-training (see my review http://www.yelp.com/biz/dohertys-truck-and-auto-rental-el-cerrito#hrid:4Dg7NguttyXfRFxM9QpJeA), and the debacle is averted. I bid Enterprise adieu, as better automobile pastures await me in El Cerrito. This is my first time writing a review, and the customer service at this Enterprise incited me to do so. The attitudes of these employees are great. Your vehicle is supposed to be returned at noon on the day of the return. So like everyone else and their brother, I returned my vehicle at noon exactly. Even though there was a line of people waiting to return their vehicles, the employee continually addressed everyone in line, while also remaining extremely personable when he was working one-on-one with you. He was very patient and had a fantastic attitude and smile on his face At the end of the transaction, with no hesitation, he walked me out and once again asked me how the customer service was for me, and if I needed a cab called to get home. read more

This place was terrific! I had autobody work done a few blocks away at Shattuck Auto Collision. They called over and there was an Enterprise driver waiting for me. Drove me over to their location where I met PARKER, the manager. He saw I was driving an SUV, and he matched the rental car type to my car. Cool. Then ALEAH did the run through with the forms and details. The rental car was quickly washed, inspected, we signed off, and off I went. Like no waiting. Several days later when my own car was ready, I drove to the Shattuck Enterprise, and again there was virtually no waiting. I turned in my keys, reviewed the bill, they inspected my rental, topped off the gas, and that was it. All VERY smooth. I would not hesitate to use this branch again. read more

Be warned! The employees at this location were really great! Very friendly and accommodating. I would give them 5 stars. There are some issues with Enterprise as a whole. I won't get into them myself as I believe reviewer Wendy N. did an accurate job. I've renting from several Enterprise locations and I agree with Wendy on these issues. I was looking for a rental car to hold me over until my Audi was out of the shop. I booked on Orbitz and was sent to this location. I arrived late on a Saturday and someone was there to service me. I believe his name was Tyler. I picked out a car and was ready to roll. After processing my reservation, I was declined due to needing to increase my credit card amount to cover full amount. No worries Tyler moved my reservation to Monday and kept my same rate! Awesome! I did was needed gathered my things with a plan to return this Monday 2/26/18. I did just that, catching an Uber from work to rental car place. When I arrived I was met by Donald Phelps, the branch manager. He located my reservation and moved through process. When he got to payment he requested more than what was requested days before. I informed him of that and he said there was nothing he could do, I asked him to move reservation to the following day and I would ensure that I raised the threshold higher. I was met with a sorry can't help you. If this is customer service then I do not want it. I have attached a copy of his business card and will also be emailing him. They picked me up at the auto body shop promptly. They checked me in at the counter right away, even though the phone was ringing off the hook and there were other customers. Each time I went in (to pick up and drop off the car), the rep seemed like he had a million arms...typing, answering phones, calling my insurance company, addressing clients by name, etc. I got a beautiful 2014 Prius for the week at a great rate ($40/day). My check out experience was just as lovely and swift. The driver took me back to the body shop, and he was such a sweet young man. I will DEFINITELY come here again. read more

Granted, this was a complicated situation. I rented the car to help my sister's partner, who has no credit card. His car had been hit while parked, and his insurance will pay it all back. He was listed as a driver on the contract. He went back to get a more comfortable car, and didn't realize how important the walk-around (looking for dings) is. He didn't sign anything, and they gave him a different car (without asking me). After he returns it, they tell me there's a dent. Way up on the roof. I ask to see his initials on the walk-around. The guy (Donnie) says he's not sure he can get me that (excuse me?!), and he will call me back. He never called back. Enterprise decided to charge my card (on xmas day, how nice) over $1800, when they told me the bill was $1300-something, with no notice of the change. It was too late at night to call them when I discovered the charge, so I called the next morning. I was livid. Donnie still told me he'd have to get the documents from someone else, and it would take days. (This is weeks after the first time I requested it.) He called back within an hour or so, though, and said they had reversed the charge. They still claim there were initials on the second walk-around, but I may never know. I allowed the car repair to call on my behalf, I had reservations for Emeryville but regardless, I wound up on Ashby and Shattuck, what luck! I get there and they instantly ask what kind of car I had and tried to upgrade me to pay more than the insurance was covering, which is an awesomely generous amount per day. Thrown out of the window, with no additional expense, I strike an understanding of the specific car that I want and they actually do call me the next day to arrange the car swap. I previously couldn't fault them for doing their sales pitch. From that point on, downhill. I go after work to swap, and they tell me the car was still out for an oil change and they will call in the AM. They don't and I show back up, and wham, no vehicle, no explanation. I ask why, and the dickhead manager (SIMON) lies and states that they just didn't have any. What? Motherfucker, I just saw it on your lot post 5pm (Closing time) the previous evening.......turns out he just rented the thing with zero regards for the arrangements/reservation. When I pressed him, he had no answer, and his little ass kissing sidekick could just say he'd call me again in the morning. Really? I've got to deal with these imbeciles for a week? DAMN! read more

The guy Derrick is so unhappy there. My cousin made reservations 2 weeks before hand. And I was called to ask if I'm still gonna use the 15 person van? And I found out I needed a credit card to rent this van. And when we got down there Derrick was like I cant give you this discount because it wouldn't be fair for everyone else. So he double the price knowing we wouldn't be able to get a replacement this last minute. And told me he wasn't gonna charge me for Friday but still charge me for 2 days. And when I asked to see the stuff we sign he said after we do a walk through it will be emailed. Scam ass place who dont care. Dont go here and deal with Derrick. He even mentioned he step down from being a manager. Don't think he should work there period! Waiting to talk to district manager. And someone else was there with a complaint too. So Derrick calls me Monday asking where's the van keys. I told him I want to talk to anyone else and he said no. When I told him the keys are inside the van, he started to laugh at me. I would never rent from enterprise again. And Derick charged me for 2 extra days because he says he had to get a locksmith to open the van door. So he made sure to find a way to over charge me. They've done a terrific job of reserving small cars for me, once gave me a heck of a deal to rent a little Fiat, and have picked me up and dropped me off countless times. The drivers are very friendly. The staff at the office are courteous, flexible, and able to problem-solve without having to consult a chain of management. Only once have I received a car that wasn't clean, and I was given a card that I was able to use for an upgrade the following rental. Also, and this is kind of a big deal, they don't do a credit check. Credit checks for car rentals are baloney. Enterprise takes debit cards too, not just credit cards. The difference is they'll freeze $300 of your account with a debit card as opposed to simply running a $100 authorization on a credit card. I'm pretty sure I've been renting from them for 25 years now. read more

(They will actually ignore your call so that if you are a few minutes late on Saturday at 1 you have to keep the car until MONDAY and pay for TWO more days when you were only a few minutes late...) Not sure what to purchase or if you need extra coverage? Don't do it. They try to push the most expensive sale. They act fake. And if you make a reservation, they will probably forget about you and you will have to call them TWICE to get a pick up because they are so busy not answering the phones. The total experience? Our car was recently hit while parked - Safeco Insurance paid for the repair and an Enterprise rental car while ours was in the shop. I went to the Ashby and Shattuck Berkeley office - was greeted by a very over the top friendly staff . . but not exactly the pinnacle of efficient service. After an extended time to fill out paperwork, I was told that there would be a $2-3/day "tax" cost to me - which I rejected as there shouldn't be any out of pocket cost - but I was willing to pay a few dollars to get the car and get out the door. I was shown 3 cars I could use under the contract's terms - a small SUV, a Volvo, and a bottom end Hyundai. I picked the Volvo - and after another amazingly long time of computer work, the clerk informed me the tax for the Volvo would be a bit more - $20. I said, well, OK, $20 - for the rental, eh? No, he said per day. . . no way. More negotiations led to the Hyundai at an agreed no cost to me . . and yet more delay, computer time, paperwork . . Finally out the door with the charming car . . after the repair, returned it, no issues. Today, several days later, Enterprise called to see how the car was - and to confirm the $333 that they're now charging me for insurance coverage - which I never agreed to orally or in writing. As soon as I objected to this charge, the clerk immediately agreed to drop it with no more discussion. I call that 'fishing'. Bottom line: a time wasting experience to get the car, several attempts to scam me . . don't think I'll be back here when I need a rental car. You should look elsewhere too. read more

I have not had to deal with this location much. I think I went twice because they had a better rate then some of the other locations. Alot of folks don't know the rate changes depending on where you rent. Sooooo, I rent a car at another location and happen to be in Berkeley. I figured I would stop and they could throw some water on the vehicle since I had had the car for almost two weeks and it was a white car. I came in on Tuesday around the 2nd of Oct. I stated I rented from another location and could they just throw some water on top. No need to brush or clean the inside, just a simple 5 minute job with the hose. There were about 6 poeple in the office. They all kind of looked at each other and said I could do it! I was like, really? I asked if the person who cleans the car could do it really quick and someone said she was busy doing something else. I said ok and walked out. No one showed me where the hose was or how to work it. I drove the car over to the cleanup area and took the hose down and put water all over the car. Took about 2 minutes, then drove off. I was in totally shock and have not got a chance to write anything until now. Stay away from this location and also Oakland on Broadway. They don't care about customers, change staff way to often, and have a habit of giving you the wrong information. Try Avis, Budget , Dollar or some other location. Enterprise sucks!!!~ read more

Enterprise and I have wildly different concepts of what "reservation" means. I'm under the impression that when I've made and confirmed a "reservation," the vehicle I asked for will be available where and when it's supposed to be. Because, you know, that's what they told me they would do. Enterprise thinks a reservation means there is a CHANCE they will have a vehicle pretty similar to what I wanted, but they'd have reservations about putting money on that. OK. Knowing their MO only too well, we double, triple checked this reservation with the Enterprise office. (Next time, it will be quadruple.) We arrived at 8 AM as promised to pick up our cargo van. The clerk blithely told me that that particular van needed to go to the shop. As if I was silly to set my heart on the van that needed to go to the shop. Just because I was told that it would be ready for me at this location at this time. Yes. I am silly. Seeing as this is my third such experience with Enterprise. Must convince boss to learn from this lesson as well. I inquired what Enterprise planned to do for me and got a pleasant, but fairly blank stare. Some "checking around" was performed. Then in the cheerfullest of tones my clerk told me (as if I had just gotten REAL LUCKY) that they had a passenger van for me. Well, actually, a passenger van was not what I needed. In fact, I'd like to venture that there is often (one might get kooky and say ALWAYS) a reason behind what the customer specifies in a "reservation." In this case, I specified a cargo van not because I enjoy a vehicle in which the only source of music is AM/FM radio or my own iPod or ghetto blaster. No, it's because I need to TRANSPORT...CARGO. Also, I asked for the cargo van at 8 AM not because I think I might score a free cup of hot breakfast water at the neighborhood Enterprise office...but because I'd like to have at least a fighting chance of getting through LA traffic before 3 PM. These points were lost on my clerk. He gave me a cheerful, but somewhat condescending smile, as if charmed to find he'd lucked upon one of those rare and highly entertaining hyper-detail-obsessed customers who occasionally spiced his day and provided him with the much-anticipated opportunity to perform exemplary customer service above and beyond the call of duty. He generously (one might say courageously) offered to call some other offices to see if he could locate a van that might satisfy my persnickety little request. I sat myself at a table and perused a book I found there called "Exceeding Customer Expectations." It was subtitled "What Enterprise, America's #1 car rental company, can teach you about creating lifetime customers." I think it needs a second subtitle: "For car rental companies other than Enterprise." People, this is a real book. It really does sit on the table in the Shattuck Enterprise office. For shame, Enterprise employees; for shame. But back to my story. Thirty minutes later, a cargo van was located. At the Broadway location. I asked how soon they could get it here and the clerk let his cheerful composure slip for a moment, revealing his utter taken-aback-ness that I would not be grateful to go to a location halfway across town to get the cargo van that he had so dedicatedly and ingeniously located for me. I explained how I had requested the Shattuck location for my "reservation" because it was a block from my house. Was he going to pay for me to take a cab to the other office? No, but this gallant tribute to customer service really touched my heart when he offered to deliver the van to my house. Of course, there would be a two-hour delay before the midmorning crew came in, and he would just need to wait until then to get my van to me. I fixed this man with my coldest stare and told him this delay was not acceptable to me and that I would have no choice but to find a friend to drive me to the other office. He beamed with pride at my fast-maturing self-sufficiency. I grew surly and asked what kind of discount he was prepared to offer me to compensate me for the complete absence of my promised van at the agreed-upon time or location. My clerk was nobly insulted, but in his great generosity of spirit, bestowed me with 10% off. LA traffic FUCKING SUCKED. read more

Okay. So I did not have a bad experience at all. So.... I decided to buy a desk off craigslist. It was small and my bf and I bought it and thought it would fit in my jetta. Since I have personally moved amazingly large things in jetta, I didn't think it would be a problem. wrong. We ended up fighting on the side of the road, me in tears, bf mad, car scratched, desk scratched, late for work, pissed off... etc. We call around to a few people looking for someone free with a truck. No one will take pity on us, even if I am sniffly. So I google rental cars and this enterprise location is the closest. I call and ask if I can rent a cargo van for an hour. The lady on the phone was awesome, totally understanding and told me to come ASAP to get my van. I did. I walked in, they gave me a discounted rate, they were extremely nice about my puffy face, gave me a better van, said I didn't have to fill it up, etc. I dunno maybe you just have to need instant service, but I thought they rocked. read more

My partner and I have committed to coming here because we have had many positive experiences here that make it all the worth while. Before today, I would have rated my experience a 5 star, which is rare for rental car place since they tend to be inconsistent with their service. After reserving a rental in JANUARY for this week in March, I arrived at enterprise. Long story short, they were trying to charge me $100 more than what my reservation has promised, and when I said I would only pay the amount I was promised with my reservation, the employee said " okay" and took no steps to resolve the solution. I immediately called up Hertz and they were able to get me a car for cheaper than my reservation price and I will be a committed customer to them from now on, since they prioritize their customers and ethically treat them well. I usually have dealt with their manager who is super kind and knows what he is doing. Unfortunately I can't risk the burden of what happened today (3/12) every time I rent because usually I am on a schedule. I will not be coming back. read more

One of the worst Enterprise locations I've been to (thats saying a lot for one of the worst car rental companies). Who has time to read reviews? I'll keep it short: -Understaffed: waited 1 hr -Reserving a car does not mean you get out of there faster -Lying about pickup times -Helping certain customers before others based on illogical reasons/preference -Sometimes leave you with 1/4 full tank and it is always your responsibility to refill to the right volume -Spend your valuable time checking for dents when this could be done prior -Up selling You might spend a little more elsewhere, but it might be worth the peace of mind. I made reservations 4 months in advance. The reservations were CONFIRMED two days before I got the vehicle. BUT, when I showed up (at the correct time) to pick up the vehicle... I was told the the minivan/SUV I needed to drive all my passengers over vacation .... Was NOT available. (A side note: when I got home I found out they had left a message on my home phone 19 minutes before the pickup time.... telling me the SUV I CONFIRMED two days earlier... was not available. 19 minutes. Apparently they can take reservations, and CONFIRM reservations... but they cannot KEEP the reservations. It was right out of a Seinfeld episode, except it was not funny.) But far worse, was the attitude from the Branch Manager "helping" me. After informing me the vehicle I had confirmed WAS available TWO days before.... was NOT available... HE WENT TO THE NEXT PERSON IN LINE. Eventually, after he helped three other customers who had easier problems, the manager deigned to solve my problem. (The solution: I was forced to rent two vehicles, a problem which rippled through the entire vacation.) When filling out paperwork he agreed to put half the price on each invoice, but then failed to do that and then lied about it 30 seconds later, when he did it a different way.... And then claimed it couldn't be redone as we had agreed. Among the worst service I have ever received, in any context. And, while I was there, two of the four other customers also had complaints. I've rented from this location at least a dozen times, primarily for business, and keep going back. The staff here is friendly, efficient, and easy to work with. I have never been mischarged or accused of denting a vehicle (the biggest hassles with car rentals). Tips: 1) Just as you will not be penalized for not keeping your reservation, your reservation will not necessarily be kept for you if you don't show up or call by the time your reservation is set to start. **To avoid disappointment, pick up your vehicle on time on busy mornings.** 2) Allow plenty of time for the process: Call ahead if you'll need a ride -- Enterprise is happy to "pick you up" within a reasonable radius but does get busy so call ahead if you are on a schedule. Also allow 20-30 minutes time to wait in line, inspect the vehicle, make sure you know how to use any non-obvious features, etc. 3) As many non-airport car rental locations, there is an odd practice of starting out the rental on 1/4 tank, which requires some planning to be able to return on a 1/4 tank. If this really bothers you, you can ask the staff to fill the car at the nearby gas station. 4) This location is a short walk from Ashby BART (and they will drop you off at Ashby BART if you would like.) read more

This enterprise is totally disorganized and disrespectful. It took 40 mins for them to answer these questions: How much was the total for one week of the nissan rental I had? How much was the total for 2 weeks rental of the Elantra? What is the procedure for the claim on car from some light damage. I'm fine if it takes a long time because its complicated, not fine if it's because I have to ask each question over and over again and get different answers every time. First I was given the daily rate, then I was given the weekly rate, then told the tax. In every case the numbers did not add up until the very end when I made myself explicitly clear for the 100th time. When calling today to confirm the rental charges they said the car rental contract was closed to which I asked so I won'y get charged anymore. They said yes that they collected the $200 deductible. We went around in circles regarding some damage to the car at which point I reminded them that their last agent, on Monday the 24th said that they wanted to "go ahead and collect a $500 deductible". Um, no you will not just "go ahead". Then they later explained to me after much more vague question answering that it would only be the security deposit and then up to the deductible amount. So after telling me I was not going to get charged anymore after this bill that there was a claim open and that I could get charged up to this stated deductible. The problem was not their policies, except for when you switch cars out they count the time it was used it from the original rental you had even though you sign new paperwork for the new car, the problem was their complete lack of understanding of their own numbers and systems. They gave me disjunct answers and even pulled the" let me find out and put you on hold" in response to one of my questions. When the manager came back it was almost like he didn't know who I was...he didn't say, "excuse me, now here's my answer". When I asked him if he had gotten an answer to my question his reply was, "what question?". I asked what he had put me on hold for then to which he replied, "oh the phone rang". I told him I'd wait again and he said that I hadn't asked a question. The heck I didn't...he just pulled the classic put you on hold and ask you to ask again. Then finally I got back to my question and he mentioned my insurance having a $500 (which is what I had said in the question). So he did hear the question....to which he replied that I had just told him in the previous sentence (after the hold, not before). No, no I didn't I told you during the time I asked this question you claim I didn't... Very confusing and disjunct treatment. They don't know their own system and have a difficult time communicating clearly. Regardless if whether the car came back damaged or not I still deserve customer service that isn't rude, that doesn't flip-flop, and that doesn't put me on hold to avoid answering a question. Totally disgraceful. I was happy with Enterprise until there was a problem, at which point they showed their true colors. Also be aware if you switch out cars they will charge your time used based on the original car not the new car even though you sign a new contract...seems fishy and honestly makes no sense. So I'm pretty upset right now. Called on my lunch and made a reservation to rent a vehicle from the Shattuck location in Berkeley because I work less than a mile away. The operator who assisted took my information INCLUDING my home address. Not only did she request the wrong time, she also failed to tell me that I could only rent a car from that location if I was a Berkeley resident. My home address is in Richmond. I left work early and walked in the rain just to get denied as soon as I handed over my drivers license... wtf. Pissed off and will find someone else to rent a car from while my car is in t Update: So the reply from Enterprise was automatic. I haven't been contacted. There was no course of action to correct the error made. Not only did I foolishly decide to give them another chance I made sure to go to a location in a city which I am a resident, the car I'm in smells like a dead animal. The brakes make a scraping sound when I apply pressure, and the transmission needs maintenance because the car doesn't switch gears right. Thankfully my car will be ready in a day or 2 but this was the worst car rental experience ever. read more

Super nice, not at all competent. Went in on Tuesday afternoon, waited probably 30 minutes to an hour to pick up a reserved vehicle. That was ok, the people were nice, eventually got a car. This morning, my wife gets call at 9 AM asking for me, she asks them to call me at my phone number. They say they'll call back, they don't. I call them at 11 AM, asking what's up, Stephanie lets me know that my rental is due in today, and asks if I want them to check with the collision shop to see when my car will be done. I thank her, and am wow'ed by good customer service that saves me hassle. An hour passes, I hear nothing, so I call them. I ask for Stephanie, wait on hold a while, and she tells me she didn't call yet because she's going over to the collision shop to pick up a customer, and will just ask in person. Ok, that works for me. Another hour passes, I hear nothing. I call back, find out that nobody ever went there or called, and I've been waiting two hours. I get put on hold, I assume they call, and find out that my car will be ready on Monday and extend the rental. Everyone I talked to was quite nice, but niceness doesn't really compensate for making a customer wait around two hours while you don't do what you said you were going to do. Excellence all the way! I almost refused to call this Enterprise location because of some negative reviews from another site - thankfully my daughter convinced me to give them a try!! I was amazed when Noah quoted the price for a Corolla-size vehicle, 2-day rental to be dropped off in San Diego. Enterprise's price was $278 LESS than A--nother rental agency located in San Francisco. Enterprise charges $50 to drop off - the other company charges $200. Encouraged by the huge savings, I started dreamin' large and inquired about the price of a convertible (which would have been WAY out of budget at other companies). Much to my surprise, the price of a black Mustang convertible at Enterprise/Berkeley came in $185.79 UNDER that earlier quoted price for a COROLLA at A--nother company in San Francisco!! Unbelievable! Soooo, Noah was able to bring in the convertible by the NEXT MORNING at 9:00 and we were off on our PCH adventure by 9:15!! Woo-hoo! Check-in was a breeze in San Diego. We were told that our account was closed in their computer but that the Berkeley office would be calling later that day to notify close-out on their end. We were immediately taken back to our hotel, and as we got out of the car, Noah was calling to tell us that our account was closed out and to ask how our trip went. Like I said, excellence from start to finish, Berkeley to San Diego. Thank you, Enterprise, Noah for making it happen and getting the car there in record time, Adam for having it sparkling and getting us 'acquainted' , and the entire Enterprise team who offered top-quality service with genuine pleasure! We definitely recommend Enterprise/Berkeley/Shattuck Avenue AND the PCH adventure!! read more
