Soooooooo I went to pick up a rental car that my auto insurance company is covering and I was told there were no cars available that would fall into the amount the insurance company is covering. Soooooooo that's my fault? A free upgrade might have been nice. That's usually what happens when you go to a rental car company and they don't have the car that you reserved. So now I can't get to work or get my child to school because your Fleet doesn't have enough cars? And at the same time I wasn't offered a lesser car either. I dropped my car off at Weatherford BMW for service and needed a car. I walked into this location and Will was able to quickly accommodate me even without any notice. As I walked in I was greeted by a nice young lady and after Will finished the paper work, I was walked to my rental by another young man who was there to answer any of my questions. I typically loathe going to any rental car store. Something about the process and the people always bugs me. My experience at this Enterprise was the best out of any rental car service by far. The staff are super friendly and they made the experience quite nice. They even held a nice new Suburban for us for two days, which made our road trip that much more enjoyable. Only gripe is that I got two keys and two key fobs on a single wire keychain that you can't open, so I had a giant bundle of keys in my pocket. Booked ahead of time and got a 5% discount with my AAA card. The exchange was hassle free. A $200 security deposit with your driver license and price of the rental gets you in. I have insurance but they offer it for renters without insurance which is cool. The car was super nice, even better than what I expected with awesome mileage. If you buy the gas from them ahead of time it's $3.80 a gallon. My experience getting to my job interview was awesome. read more

I usually use this rental car location when I periodically have to take my car in to Cooks Collison on Claremont. The personnel are friendly and accommodating. I'm giving them the highest rating because on my last visit (last week), they comped me on my 3 day personal charges (i.e. charges not paid for by my insurance co.) when I told them I couldn't give them the highest customer service rating because I had to wait 20 minutes to be picked up at Cooks. I think as with most car rental places, the service is dependent on the people working there which may explain some of their bad reviews in the past. I've been in and out of this Enterprise multiple times in the last year because my car is on its last dying breath and the people have always been helpful. They were flexible when I wasn't sure when my car was going to be ready and had to cancel at the last minute and gave me an excellent rate when my car broke down over the holidays. Insanely overpriced on the weekends. I tried to rent an economy car on a Saturday and they qouted me 60 something dollars a day. The receptionist simply told me "that's how much they cost." As a person who has been at the front lines of customer service, I value and appreciate when I receive GREAT service. These people are really something else. Last weekend, my friends and I were planning a trip to the snow - headed for Tahoe. Because I only had my temporary debit card after losing mine, there was a bit of an ordeal with the requirements for reserving a car, but even as I got a little peeved, Mike (with a really fantastic Irish accent!) was increidbly professional, clearly explaining the guidelines and reasoning why things were done the way they are suppose to be. He was incredibly personable, and genuinely kind. Stephanie, who I had spoken to a couple of times earlier that week, had arranged for a car they didn't have to be delivered for us, and it was. Whle we were there , a very frustrated and rude man was causing a comotion, and was literally yelling at her - and she handled him so politely and kindly - and without letting him defeat her, he left there a happy man. I cannot remember the names of the other two individuals we interacted with, but everyone was VERY nice, smiling, professional and working as a team. In the end, we didnt take our trip to Tahoe (80 was closed due to a 45 car pile up.) and they voided out our rentals, and gave us a ride back to where my own car was parked. I think that Enterprise Corporate needs to go to this particular store and see how this group operates, and use them as an example for training others. They are EXCELLENT! read more

I was so upset with these people today that I could spit nails! I've finally calmed down enough to write a review. I have rented numerous cars from this location over the last three years. I've spent thousands of dollars renting from here. I last rented a Ford Expedition for a week in October 2011. I ALWAYS use the same Mastercard Business Debit card and I've never had a problem here. Today we go there to rent a car for one week because our car is in the shop. I called in advance and they said come down at 11am. we have lots of cars. We get there at 11am and there was one Jeep Patriot behind the building that was filthy, a van that was not available and a red Toyota that we didn't ask about. That was it. While we were there, someone brought back a Buick that was also filthy. I had a Corporate discount code from my employer. We decided to take the Buick for $236 for the week. I handed the lady my card and she rudely handed it back to me and said "Do you have something that DOESN'T have the word "debit" on it?" I said "no, just our Chase Visa debit card". She then starts to demand a copy of my paystub and two utility bills showing a 0 balance. What? There were about 8 other customers standing behind us and we were totally embarassed. I told her to please look in the system and see how many cars I had rented from them using this card. She loudly started carrying on about Company policy etc. etc. I told her that this is very unfortunate but they just lost a customer and that I will never be back. We walked out. Then for some reason my husband decided to go back and talk with her while I waited outside. He was taking a long time so I went back in to see what was going on. There she was lecturing him on Company policy again. I told him let's go elsewhere. As we were walking back out the door, my husband looked back and told her that this was "BS!" She then proceeded to follow us out to the parking lot and give a lecture to my husband about his language at which point I turned around and told her that for a good as customers that we have been for so long that she was treating us very badly and we will not be back. We drove down Broadway in Oakland and stopped at Avis next to the Ford dealer and not only did they have a ton of very nice clean cars, they apologized to us for the way we were treated by Enterprise and gave us a very nice clean SUV for $200 for a full week. They had absolutely no problems with our card and said they would like to do more business with us in the future. Apparently Enterprise on Shattuck doesn't need business. They don't have much in the way of cars, what they do have is filthy and God forbid your card says "debit" on it or you will be forced to go through something comparable to taking out a bank loan in front of other customers. I have called their corporate offices and launched a formal complaint but even that was frustrating. Go to Avis on Broadway in Oakland if you want service and a better rate. This place has gone from good to bad and I won't be going back. Furthermore next year I was considering buying one of their retired cars. Not now, they lost that sale, I'll go to Hertz sales when we are ready. read more

The rental location in Berkeley has a terrific manager -- Will -- who truly wants to provide you with complete satisfaction, and is willing to make adjustments when things go wrong. I will not rent anywhere else. Also, if you are in the market for a used car, Enterprise has a wonderful sales outfit that selects the best of the rental fleet, gives you a one-year power train warranty, a week to bring it back if you change your mind, and free roadside assistance for a year. Sonja at the San Leandro car sales location is one of the most helpful salespersons I have ever met. She makes buying a car a positive experience, if you can believe it. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME. I had a reservation for a car rental that I was depending on. first they pick me up late, took me to the wrong pick-up location. They tried to rent a car to me for $59.00 a day, when their own website say's it only $39.00 a day. When trying to pay with a debit card, they made me fill out a long list of information, with that list they wanted me to show proof, like a phone bill. (who carry's phone bills with them!). Wasn't able to rent a car because of this. Asked for ride back to me original location, they couldn't provide that either. Had a 35 minute WALK back home. Now I have a son that I have no way of picking up from school. A business meeting this afternoon that I don't have a way of getting to. Staff were so rude, my friend and I witnessed them shouting at a customer and they seemed like they couldn't wait to leave the store. The man working there told me at 12.03 to leave the store as they were closing and he had "somewhere else to be". Contacted Hertz after this and their customer service was far superior. Worst experience. I booked a full-size car online and in advance hoping that everything would be ready in time when I show up, plus I have the Enterprise Plus account. I needed a full-size car to pick family at the airport. The car was not ready at the location where I booked it. OK, that's fine. They take me to another Oakland location and tell me to take a 2 doors compact car ... That's not what I booked, not what I need and not what I am paying for ! Oh great idea, the Subaru Outback would do it ... It won't start because there is no gas. Wasting another 10 minutes ... That's great when you need to go to the airport ! The Enterprise folks tell me they're going to get gas, the minutes go by, nothing happens ... I go check inside, they were helping other customers on the phone ! Hello I am right in front of you ! Where is the gas ? Apparently they did not expect me today as a customer. Well, what's the point of booking in advance if you can't get organized ? Finally, after wasting 30 minutes of my time and making me feel like I was not a customer, they let me take a dirty and almost out-of-gas car. I am very disappointed in the service I have received. Or should I say didn't receive. I live a mile from this location but in Oakland. I went online to make a reservation put in my location and the application suggested this location as my nearest. I continued to put in my drivers license number and it was verified. Considering I missed my bus I walked the mile to their location all to find out I couldn't finalize my rental without a credit card and they will not accept my debit card unless I was a Berkeley resident. I tried explaining to the guy that helped me I was on the borderline but he wasn't trying to hear it and stated the last address he has on file for me was in Stockton. Which was an address from so long ago. Why that was relevant? I don't know. This review isn't so much on him more than the "policy" they have in place. Nowhere is it stated they will not accept debit cards from non residence when you are making reservations. And if it's in the fine print somewhere it needs to be in BOLD print right when you out in your drivers license number. This was a total waste on my time. read more

Because of my work, we have a corporate account with Enterprise to rent cars, which I do about once a month. I have been using this office for the last 2 years or so as it's closest to my house. I have had a range of experiences with them, from excellent to somewhat aggravating. Rather than go through all of these (mostly because they are more mundane than the other reviews), I wanted to offer some tips to the would-be renter: 1) The "We'll pick you up" slogan should really be "We'll pick you up...if we have the personnel, and we may still be an hour or so late getting you." I'm surprised no one's tried to sue Enterprise yet for misleading advertising regarding this. Basically Enterprise employees are all able to pick you up from your house and take you back, but only if someone is available to do that...and this task usually takes a back seat when they are busy, which is pretty often. I have had to wait 30 mins to an hour to get picked up during their peak hours, and have heard of instances where they were not able to pick someone up at all because they were too busy. To avoid waiting, I recommend calling them to ask for a pick up 30 mins before your reservation time. Also, avoid reserving a car Monday mornings or Friday evenings, when they are busiest. You can also write to HQ and recommend they hire more staff (cutting staff has been the trend over the last few years, increasing pressure on everyone else and making pick-ups even later or sometimes not available at all). 2) If something doesn't go right, complain! When there's something wrong with the car, when they make you late for a meeting because they were late picking you up (see above), or when anything else doesn't just go exactly right, tell the staff person who is helping you when you return the car and ask for a discount. Whenever I've complained about anything, they've always agreed to a discount. The reps have the power to make discount decisions based on "customer service" reasons without having to talk to a supervisor. 3) If you overfill the gas tank upon return, ask for a credit. I've done this several times and always gotten a credit. Usually the staff person doing my return will just sign the back of their business card and give it to me. I then present it back to them to get a discount on gas the next time I rent a car. Simple! Hope this helps! read more

I agree with James as to the fabulous customer service. I had reserved the smallest car Enterprise has, and then went down and spoke to them to re-confirm. When I got there to rent the car, they did not have it- which was really not good after all I had done to ensure it. The manager was great, available, understanding, and worked with me on the increased fuel costs for the larger car. Be aware- Enterprise does not start you with a full tank- only 1/2 a tank so add that cost into your car rental comparisons. Overall, a great experience after the initial problem. Wish I could say my Enterprise experience was lovely but I can't. First issue...they think a 2001 Ford Taurus is comparable to a 2006 VW Jetta. I think I could end my review with just that and everyone would understand why I gave it 1 star. I went through Enterprise based on the fact that they were a stone's throw away from the body shop where my car was being repaired. Big mistake, I should have gone out of my way to go somewhere else. This place sucks. First they told me the claimant's insurance would cover $30 dollars a day for a rent-a-car but whoops they didn't have my billing in. The next day they call me telling me my claim had been denied and I was going to have to pay for the car myself. I called the insurance company and they told me they had no idea why Enterprise would tell me that...as they promised to cover the whole expense. They got in contact with them and all was taken care of... or so I thought. Today when I go to return a car I had an $150 bill. It seems the insurance was only covering $15 dollars a day. Enterprise failed to tell them they had promised me $30 and never callad me to tell me this...so I could have traded in for a smaller car. I am almost willing to give them 2 stars for their amazingly sweet drivers but I know those guys probably only get paid $10 an hour so I am not going to give them any credit for having good employees at the bottom of their food chain. read more

I called before i went to their location to see if they have any available car for rental, they said yes come on in. I get there about 15 mins later and was asked if I had a reservation and i said no. The guy at the counter said well we don't have any available cars, i told him I just called 15 mins ago and a lady on the phone said that they did. I signed in after he said he would check. (which i thought that's what the lady on the phone had said she had done) Waited another 15 mins I was in a time crunch after visiting a another Enterprise while on a short 2 hours break from work. I called another company while standing in line and was told to come down they had plenty of cars and no waiting. BAM! I am out the door....only to get to my car and see that is blocked in my one of their cars. I go in to see if they can move the car that just 15 mins before was behind me. After asking two people to move the car 10 mins later the car i still there, I go back in and asked what the deal was, they said they had to find the keys. Ummmm Hello you just had them 15 mins ago when you parked behind me. I would not suggest that anyone go here!! Its just a waste of time and they are really unorganized and not very friendly. They really don't deserve one star but i have to pick one. read more

Look, they only hire good looking guys and girls here. Really, I haven't seen anyone below average or average working here. They're all like 8.5's and above. Trivial detail, their customer service is pretty good. Simple, not overboard, not cheesey-nice because they have to be. I rent from this office nearly every Wednesday morning, and have since the beginning of the year (which means, I've rented from them now about 25-30 times). While the service is not flawless, most of the time it is efficient, punctual, and friendly. Only a couple of times have I had to wait more than I think is acceptable. Mostly I'm in an out in about 5 minutes. The cars are in good shape. I'm not given a hard sell for insurance. read more

Saying they can not provide a car meaning we can't travel to visit family for Christmas. So not ok. Corporate 800 number blames local branch. Local Branch blames Corporate. He is so proficient and polite, he welcomed everyone that entered the door while continuing to have meaningful personal conversations with each person he was working with.
