Avoid at all costs. I have been an Avis customer for several years both personally and corporately. Over this time I have spent thousands of dollars, passionately advocated for them, and overall been happy despite the unpleasant nature of the car rental experience in general. Unfortunately, I will no longer be working with them nor will any company I influence after my recent experience of being charged $450 for a cleaning fee which is over twice the average cost of a full detail and THREE TIMES THE COST OF THE RENTAL FOR THE WEEK ITSELF for pet hair in 2 of the 3 back seats and floorboard. I offered to clean this myself after seeing the charge but was refused despite their corporate office approving this when I called them to dispute the charge (as directed by the manager of this location herself). My wife was t-boned by another driver (they were at fault) which totaled our shared vehicle. Thankfully she was not harmed seriously but now we have no car. I rented a car from Avis to drive up to a family gathering and medical appointments we had in Dallas. We brought our dog and folded down one of the seats to carry things so the middle and back right seat were exposed to his hair. We got back late from this after already having to extend a day so I rushed to return the vehicle before 6pm. I debated keeping the car an extra day and lint-rolling it just to be safe but have done similar trips with Avis cars before so figured I would at most receive a nominal fee. Instead, I woke up to an almost $700 charge at an already very difficult time for my family and I. When I called the local Avis location the manager said she couldn't help but I could call the corporate number. So, I did and they said I could request it come clean the seat myself with a lint roller which I have done a million times before on my own vehicles and takes maybe ten minutes. So, I called back and was told she would need to ask upper management. She called me back almost 8 hours later to tell me she had only just now been able to speak with them and sadly they were going to just send it to detail and would not work with me on it. On top of this, I had the car for 5 days and they charged me for a whole week then refused to give me the car back for the extra two days so I could clean it an avoid being charged a half thousand dollars. This is the type of treatment you get as a "preferred" member. Save your money and yourself the trouble and go use a Toro. From a general standpoint, this particular Avis is very poorly ran and depressing to be inside. I have only ever seen that one manager working there at all at the front desk regardless of how busy the place is. Every time I go in it seems I see another customer losing it because of some perceived grievance and thought maybe these folks are just difficult to deal with and cause problems. Now I know better. This shop is an assembly line of dinky cars (my wife and I have only liked 1 of the cars [mazda 5] we got from here), overworked employees, and pissed off customers. If you have any snag in your experience they will juice you for all they can.

Got a Dodge Charger which wasn't the most comfortable car, but got me to my meeting safely. Car was fairly clean, but the fuel efficiency wasn't the best. This rental office is huge.

I made a reservation through my company's perk website/agreement with them on my phone (FOR EASE) only to go to the counter and have Alfredo not be able to find it. This always happens at ERAC even when I use them just to get my car repaired which is super irritating. The manager (who's info you can see in my photo) could see I was getting frustrated and came in to handle the situation. Alfredo was going to charge me $150 more than my reservation and didn't have my information input correctly. (Seeing I was dropping off at another location this was very important.) The manager upgraded me to a vehicle ready then and one of the female coworkers assured me and gave me a piece of paper with his information and said to call if I needed anything. I guess they partner with National Rental as well because when a call was made to extend my rental as they we're informed could be expected, I got no one. This happens when you call the main line too.

We get there and corpus wasn't expecting us at all. finally the manager for Kingsville changes out my car but that made me very late for my trip in the end. The second time I reserve a truck and 30 minutes before my pick up they tell me they don't have it. They didn't offer any help in resolving the issue. Basically told me I'm shit outta luck. Real scumbag shit right there. So there I am going to corpus for another rental again. Sad that the only rental car business in town is dogwater. I will say the manager that helped me was nice and I appreciate her help but overall that enterprise isn't worth a damn. I'll give it one more try before I stick with just going to corpus.

Drop off went even better than expected...took care of the balance and I was even given a ride to my vehicle which was down the road in the body shop. My only lil concern is that they recently moved to this new location which is kind of the beaten path. The building itself sits between ramp exits. They still provide great service which is definitely a plus. The building is clean and well taken care off as well.
