I needed to rent a car for a work trip and my usual location is closed on Sundays. As I didn't want to rent from an airport location, I chose enterprise in Elmhurst. After reading previous reviews, I was concerned about poor customer service. I'm happy to report that both pick up and drop off the customer service was excellent. I arrived about 10 minutes before they opened on Sunday. There was one staff member already in the parking lot reviewing their reservations of the day. At promptly 10 am, I walked inside and was greeted immediately. A few more customers walked inside after me. I was checked out in about 10 minutes or less. The copy of the rental agreement was emailed to me. This location does keep a hold on your credit card. (Which is explained at check out) The only reason for not a perfect score. The car I was given was about 4 years old, with 60,000 miles, and plenty of scratches on the outside. It did meet my needs for great gas mileage on a work trip. When I returned the car, it was a quick process. If I had to rent again on a Sunday, I would return to this location. read more

Total hot mess. Here now since 445pm- utterly disorganized and not enough cars to go around. Workers have no clue what's going on and people who have no business being at the desk are interacting with customers- i was promised a car that 30min later i saw taken by someone else. This review is not about this location specifically, but rather about Enterprise's policies. Rented a car for a day in September 2023. Owed a toll of $1.50. Received an email for toll on 10/10/2024, over a year later, giving 2 days to pay the toll or an administrative fee would be charged. Received a bill today by mail for $26.50 - $1.50 for the toll and $25 for the administrative fee. RIDICULOUS!! Thought the email was fraudulent since it had been over 13 months since the car was rented. Called to inquire and was told that nothing could be done. Asked to speak to a manager and was told that I could not - the policy had already been explained to me. Car rentals are very expensive and fees like this add insult to injury. MY FAMILY WILL NEVER RENT FROM ENTERPRISE AGAIN!! read more

Friendly pickup and drop off at the Enterprise location and friendly enough service but what was appalling was the condition of the vehicle when they brought it out for me to drive away in. Just washed yet so much soap residue that the car looked like what cars can look like the next day after Having driven through a snowstorm on salted roads. White film all over the car. Terrible customer service. As a former Enterprise employee, I prefer to rent from them, and knowing how much customer service is valued; but I cannot believe how awful the customer service was at this branch. I was told that there is an additional $10 fee to add a driver. I explained that the driver is my fiancé and is 36 years old (well above the standard 21-24 age that would justify the underage driver fee of $10 per day). The employee told me it was something unique to Illinois (since I had an out of state license). I was also told I needed to provide proof of auto insurance (again, as former employee, I know this is NOT required). I told them I was visiting from out of state and my insurance card is in my vehicle at home, where it should be! I could not believe how rude the employees were and lying to me completely about their "policies". I called into corporate and they confirmed that the additional driver fee was not applicable for someone who was 36 years old with a valid drivers license. The kid that took care of me after the girl that seemed like she didn't want to be there was cool even went above to get me a phone holder because the vehicle was not equipped with hands free! It's 2024 Enterprise! most of your customers are people who utilize the vehicles for trips! The vehicle was horrible Im hoping I don't get sick from it! After getting on the road and turning on the defrost because windows were fogging a disgusting mildew odor mixed with pet odors started to emit from the vents I had to turn it on and off and then finally fully off because I couldn't stomach it along with odors of rotten eggs (Hydrogen Sulfide) when accelerating.Had to ride with the windows slightly cracked and it was raining! I feel dirty I need to shower after getting out of that car and eat soup cause my stomach queasy from the ride. read more

Had to use a loaner car from Enterprise while my Mazda 6 was being serviced at Wilkins a block south of here. Friendly service--Melanie was very sweet--and expedient, too. Paperwork was a cinch and I was driving off the lot in no time at all. I was given a (filthy) Hyundai Sonata as my interim car, which was in the same 4-door, mid-sized sedan class as my 6. I loved the Sirius XM radio and the cheery little tune that plays when you start 'er up; sadly, they gave me a car that had zero wiper fluid in the middle of WINTER. So I had to endure a dirty windshield and slush-covered car for a day, until I chiseled off the ice that had accumulated inside the wheel wells. To be fair, none of their other rental cars were 'clean', but the Sonata they gave me was easily the worst offender. Nice interior ambient lighting, though. I'd probably rent here again if I needed to.....just remember to refill your important auto fluid reservoirs, please! read more

Small lot in front, park to pickup a reserved vehicle and am told the lot is in back and in so many words I immediately to move it to the back. Odd, I felt the spot I parked up front was suitable. Apparently this process is to keep the front lot open for customers. Wait... am I no longer a customer? How about a sign? Additional Parking in back. Yes we finally got the cargo van. Do you like those word problems from back in school? See if you can figure this one out. Driver A and Driver B endeavor to rent a van for A's daughter's return from college. Friday pick up and return on Saturday afternoon is planned. A is paying for the van and driving. B is helping, driving and lives near the rental office. A lives an hour west of the E office on the way to the college. A would rather not drive an hour into the city only to turn around and drive that same distance. A and B are frequent business travelers and tolerate a lot of chaos. They would prefer that this weekend is not an adventure. A reserves a van about a month in advance. A enters a myriad of required data. A stops in to the office 5 days before the rental to add credit card info and assure that B can pick up the van. A is told that credit card data can't be stored and can only be input the day of pick up. A is told that both drivers need to be at the pick up. E complicates things a bit to make the word problem more interesting. B is charged $10 more for the "benefit"of being the second driver. E closes at noon on Saturday. E's employee AJ calls 4 days before to say that vans are in short supply and asks if a box truck would work. A declines the substitution. AJ in a punitive tone explains that this will mean a 3 day rental since "we close at noon on Saturday and can't check your van in till Monday morning" E feels it is fine to charge for a van sitting on their lot that they are not using and A and B are not using. E loses the keys during pick up of the van because the office is so disorganized. See picture, you can't make this crap up! Here's the actual problem to solve: Why do A and B do business with a company like E? read more

Terrible customer service and completely screwed me. I booked a rental for a specific vehicle time the day before I needed. It was an option to rent so I chose that particular class online. ONE HOUR prior to me picking it up I get a phone call that says they can not accommodate that car. Ok, no problem, what location has that rental type? Of course, in true terrible customer service form, it was not their problem it was mine. After repeatedly reminding me that I booked the reservation the day before it was clearly conveyed this was my problem. Buyer Beware. My reservation was cancelled two hours after I was booked because (per the customer service rep) their "system" doesn't catch up with the booking process when they are sold out of cars. They called me almost 2 hours after I made the reservation to tell me the reservation was cancelled. I missed the call so I wasn't aware until the next morning that my reservation didn't exist. At that time I received a cancellation email. Whether I missed the call or not, it doesn't make any difference. Why have a reservation line if the person you're speaking with doesn't have accurate information regarding availability of cars? Why offer a service if the service doesn't exist? Update on 8/12/19: I emailed the customer service rep all of the information as requested in the response to the review and I never received another response. read more

We have had Ana amazing experience so far at this location! We made a reservation online and they were extremely busy that day resulting in our original car not being available. They still made the moment right and got us in a car rather than canceling our reservation. I have rented cars before at Avis, Hertz, and also Enterprise, but this specific location has the best customer service, bar none. The manager Kyle is very friendly and helpful. Matthew, Brian, Jimmy, and Illiana have helped me tremendously in the past 2 months with my renting need. I am working so these guys have to pick up from and drive me back to the office, whic h is about 2-3 miles from here. No problem. These guys are quick to ensure I wont be late to be back at the office. A car is a car, but the Enterprise team in this location has managed to make it an experience, a great one indeed. read more

Problem is, when i returned the rental after hours on 3/21/20 (in daylight), security called the police and told them he saw me on camera popping hoods and checking gas tanks. I would have picked ZERO stars if I'd been able to. I will never-ever rent from this location again!!! I recent got married so my credit card unfortunately did not match the last name on driver's licence name. This has posed no problem anywhere else (including airport security) and I had ample evidence of the name change, including a certified copy of my marriage license. When I made my reservation online at no time was there any indication that if the names on my license didn't match the name on my credit I couldn't rent a car. There I was on Christmas Eve picking up my car and I was told, yeah sorry we can't rent you a car because your credit card has a different name than your license. They didn't offer much of an apology, didn't try to help AT ALL...it was literally as if they were saying "NEXT" it was noon and they were closing and couldn't be bothered...All they said was "its all over our website" I checked and I was lied to!! At no time during the reservation process does it say "if you're major credit does not match the name on your driver's license, we cannot rent to you" I was HEARTBROKEN...I couldn't drive the next day to see my family in Detroit. I understand companies have polices but to be so heartless on a holiday when this could have been easily rectified...if they had even cared or tried...At least when I called Hertz they tried to help though at noon the day before Christmas it was understandable. Enterprise...teach your employees customer service in the future, or at least the ones at your Elmhurst location on York Road The manager there should be ashamed! read more

I would rate this company as a ZERO if I could. Rental car, a late model Mazda 3 was nice-very high tech. AJ tried hard and succeeded to sell my wife insurance ( at $19 / day). When I later told him we have the necessary coverage-here's the "con"- if we bought THEIR insurance, in addition to our FULL COVERAGE FROM OUR EXISTING STATE FARM POLICY, if the car were returned with damage, there would be no problem as it would be handled by THEIR MYSTERY INSURANCE COMPANY. He was quick to take and swipe our debit card for $100.00. The repair to our vehicle was to take only 4 days-it took 10 days. I complained to the body shop who talked to, and they told me he agreed to take off 3 days- now we're down to 7 days at the same rate he charges the body shop which is $25.00 per day. (I confirmed this with the body shop). When it came time to dropping off the car and paying these people, AJ wanted better than $400.00. I was willing to pay perhaps $150.00 to $175.00 for the rental car less the insurance that WE DID NOT NEED- the guy at the body shop agreed. I told AJ that I was being "hosed" (overcharged)- the bill drops down to $281.00 still too much- (remember, they still have the $100 that they processed our debit card for at the beginning). AJ had a very cocky attitude. I told him that I will complain on social media, to my bank and to the Illinois Attorney General's office. This guy is a con and he deserves to be in prison rather than renting cars. Next time- we will skip the nonsense and go to U-Save Auto Rental! read more

This location keeps making unauthorized charges on my credit card I used for incidentals. Be aware of small extra charges that keep adding up weeks after the rental return! I had to call my bank to block them and dispute charges. To top it off they picked me up from the body shop in a filthy white cargo van with chickens painted all over it, how professional is that? Going the extra mile-I don't think so! , their so called "manager" is extremely cocky and rude and laughs at you on the phone. I've been waiting for over 2 weeks to get my security deposit back that I had authorized to charge on my credit card for a 3 day rental. The car was returned safe and sound. Spencer doesn't want to help or go the extra mile until I have to call back three times. And even then he doesn't offer a resolution. Am I ever going to get my $100 back?? I used to rent car often on weekends from this location. Everything was fine until my parked rental car was scratched by someone in a parking garage. I didn't notice the scratch until I went to return the car. My insurance paid everything to fix the scratch. However, the attitude of the staff completely changed after that incident. The next time I went there to rent a car, the agent tried hard to sell me insurance when though I told him I hv the necessary coverage and he double checked the car for any dents or scratches and he even checked the roof of the car while giving me nasty looks. Enterprise Rent a Car - 896 N York Rd in Elmhurst... I've rented from there about a Dozen times. Today - they have a new Company Policy Change & because I'm using a Debit Card - they want me to fill out a Rental Request and provide them with References?!?!?!
