Hands down the best rental car experience I've ever had at O'Hare. The Alamo team was phenomenal from start to finish. Everything was quick, easy, and genuinely pleasant--which is not something I normally expect when renting a car at a busy airport. A huge shoutout to Tommy, Eric, Austin, and Cesar. Every one of them was friendly, professional, helpful, and went out of their way to make the experience seamless. Their customer service really stood out. Overall great experience and always affordable! We were provided with a Hyundai Palisade with very low mileage. Since the Alamo counter was closed, we were redirected to the National counter where the staff was incredibly friendly. We were even given an additional discount as the rates were much better for the July 4th weekend, and we had booked our trip 1 or 2 months ago when the rates were high. That was a great way to start a trip. Overall the vehicle was great and fun to drive especially being new it had the assisted driving (ADAS) which made the long drive relaxing. There was a small windshield crack (under an quarter of an inch barely visible), and while their policy only requires reporting damage over two inches from prior experiences, I made them note it on the record before I took the vehicle from the lot just to be on the safe side. We just rented a car for 6 days with Alamo. It is always a pleasure to deal with the Alamo staff at Ohare Airport! The only reason I didn't leave 5 stars is that the car we rented had a severe smell, probably from anti freeze. We made the gentlemen at the airport aware of the situation so no one else would rent the car without someone checking out the car. I will never hesitate to rent from Alamo! I rented a mid-size SUV for 3 days from O'Hare. When we arrived, there were none available so had to wait about 10 minutes for one to be delivered to the rental area. Then had some relatively minor issues with the vehicle - the brights would automatically come on (and not at the right times). We changed that setting, but each time the car was turned off and on, it went back to the default. Worse was the screen which was used for all settings - at times it would not turn on, which meant no access to anything including the A/C settings. I mentioned these issues when turning the car in, and what made this a 4-star review is that I was immediately offered a discount for my inconvenience . I hadn't asked for anything and was just mentioning the screen malfunction so they could fix it, so it was great customer service for them to offer the discount (thank you Shawn!). read more

I am just a mother trying to get my 22-year-old daughter home to SC from Chicago. I rented and paid for in full a rental car for my 22-year-old daughter. When she went to pick it up, she was told that she had to pay another $400 fee for being a (brand-new) Chicago resident. The manager, Alexia, was yelling at my daughter, who was crying and just needed help, saying "sorry, I just can't help you." I tried to problem solve on the phone, from SC mind you, saying that I would send her the money and she could use her card. Again, Alexia said no, she wasn't renting her the car. I am super disappointed in Alamo, the people working there, and all in all Chicago for upcharging people because "well, that's our policy." Shame on you Alexia! Had a long weekend visit and saw a great rate for a luxury vehicle so I booked it. More on the rate later. A bit of a hike to get to the O'Hare rental car center. That said, I do prefer the Airport train over a shuttle bus. Only one ahead of me at the check-in counter so not much of a wait. I opted for the Toll waiver package which was $48. Ended up having only half of that in Tolls so more of a convenience vs value add-on for this rental. Check-in was quick and seamless. They had an Audi A4 available as advertised. That said, maybe one more option so not much of a selection. The Car was clean/newer with a little over 10k miles. Back to the rate. I booked through Expedia and one thing they didn't show is the O'Hare airport tax/fees. It's about 45% of the rental price so I was shocked and don't remember this fee from past O'hare rentals. If you rent directly with Alamo they do show their daily rate with this tax included. Airport fee isn't Alamo's but still ridiculous. Car return was quick and the Agent took time to explain the exorbitant airport fees. Overall, enjoyed the Audi -watch out for the Airport fees read more

Wow. So a car died on the entrance ramp to the rental car return, causing a huge back up since there's only one entrance in to ORD's rental return ramp. We were stuck and called Alamo and had no help. We backed out and left the car at kiss&ride and went into the Alamo counter and came across really the least friendly, least helpful clerk there, who yelled at us, told us we had to drop off the car or get charged. Rented car from O'Hare and within 20 minutes realized there was a problem with the steering. I called the number provided and was informed to return to O'Hare for a replacement car. I had this car for less than one hour. I left in the new car provided and continued on my travels. I later received an email stating I owed money for an unpaid toll for the first car plus a fee. I paid all tolls on the second car. I called Customer Service and was on hold for over an hour. When call was answered I was transferred multiple times all telling me I need to speak with local Alamo. I called multiple times to the O'Hare location, I left messages requesting a return call. Never happened. I wrote an email to the address provided and they understood my frustration but same answer was that I need to resolve with the local managers. I don't live in Chicago so stopping by wasn't an option. A month after trying to get in contact with the local Alamo I had a flight to O'Hare. I went to Alamo to get this resolved as I'm now on a Do Not Rent list over a $6 toll + Alamo's fee I incurred with their faulty car. I shared my problem with the counter agent and his answer was that it was "my problem". He asked where I was initially driving to and where I had to turn around to exchange the 1st car. This man took out his phone and put in the address to show there are ways to get to O'Hare outside of a toll road. He said it only would've added 20 minutes and it would be toll free. I was in a faulty car provided by Alamo, in a new city by myself and I had to waste time turning around and getting a new car. I would have essentially paid twice on the same tolls all due to a faulty vehicle. There was a lack of understanding or any kind of assistance on how to resolve this by the agent. He even shared how he's from Florida and he hasn't had any problems with avoiding tolls since living here. I asked to speak with a manage and the manager understood why I shouldn't be liable for these tolls and removed them. I understand my situation is unique and most tolls are the customer's responsibility; however the lack of common sense by the agent and his smart a** response by googling the map on how I could've avoided tolls by driving 20 more minutes in Alamo's provided faulty car was unappreciated! read more

Alamo car hire ohare chicago well what a load if CRAP. On my 50th decided to do route 66 with my wife. Arrived to pick up the car i ordered a sporty car ie dodge challanger v8 there were no sporty v8 he offered me a v8 which looked like suv hardly sporty .we ended up with a weak mustang eco boost convertable so you can imagine the fun every night of our road trip trying to get the suitcase out of the back seat as only 1 fitted in the boot, what a let down . Then the next bit spent an hr waiting for gps as they were all old did not work and were flat they managed to get one but some of the letters were touch sensative and did not work the manager dealing with us said dont worry i put 300 dollars as a refund this was on 4 sep 2025 Waited a month no refund what a surprise. Emailed them they have said it will take up to another 90 days yes 4 months to give you a 300 dollar refund what a JOKE To sum it up if your after a certain car dont bother as when you arrive all they got is SHIT .Then with refunds i personally think they drag it out as long as possible so you give up . I arrived at the Alamo rental desk (203 N LaSalle, Chicago) to pick up a prepaid international booking through Auto Europe. I had all required international documents, including my EU driver license, proof of EU residency, and passport. The manager, Mykil Fleming, refused to honor the booking because he saw an Illinois State ID in my wallet -- even though I never submitted it. He incorrectly assumed I was a U.S. resident and said I had to rebook under a different policy. When I asked for a written policy or refusal document, he refused. His behavior was arrogant and disrespectful. I am submitting formal complaints to Auto Europe, Alamo corporate, and U.S. consumer protection agencies. Do not trust this rental location. I rented from alamo 3/17/21 at the fort-lauderdale Hollywood international airport. It was now 2/22/24 I get a letter stating the car was damaged and inspected on 2/1/24 and I am responsible. I reached out played phone tag and heard nothing back. 3/25/24 I get a letter stating they still reviewed my claim and I'm responsible. I emailed that night very upset and called 3/26/24 and reached out to the BBB. that evening they called me telling me it's all settled I don't owe anything. Rented a truck for vacation from the Spokane Intl Airport. We were asked to take pictures of the vehicle for dents and dings. 2 of us covered every inch of the body bc there were a lot of marks. My buddy asked the rep about the crooked license plate and if we needed a picture of it and he said "No, we already have that documented". Dodge Ram w/ 19k miles. Check engine light came on the 2nd day of 6. AC never blew cold. Got a flat tire on day 5. Took it to a tire shop and they would not patch it bc they said the tread on the tire was too worn down. Tried to contact the Spokane branch for 2 hours to get approval to have the tire replaced. No one ever picked up or returned my call. Kept the spare on for the last day. They are trying to charge me for damage to the license plate bracket now. I found a picture of the crooked plate in our vacation pics the morning after pickup and they told me that "That could have happened as soon as you left." and "Maybe you didn't realize you hit something." I asked if it was possible that with as busy as they were and porters running around frantically, that one of their employees may have caused the damage, and the branch mgr informed me that his employees ALWAYS tell him if they were to hit something. I brought up the check engine light and AC issues and was told that he "would not charge me for the tire replacement". Charge ME for the tire? The Spokane branch lacked any customer service and immediately placed blame on me for preexisting issues to the truck. They asked me to provide proof of the preexisting damage to the license plate bracket and I did, but they questioned the legitimacy of the time stamped photo I submitted and it sounds like they were going to blame me no matter what anyway. Car was stolen on a trip. Not only was the entire trip ruined, Alamo was flat out confrontational and threatening. Not a single person reachable online or over the phone willing to come to a reasonable conclusion. Despite a pending insurance claim I was threatened multiple times with legal action and collections agencies. They left a message while I was at work threatening legal charges and police involvement. My insurance company was wonderful and this entire fiasco is thankfully behind me but I cannot urge people enough to stay away from this cesspool. It started rough as the lines were so long to finally get my car but when I finally got my car it was amazing and I was in and out so quick after that. The main reason I am writing this is because I left my backpack in the car and let's say it would be a lot of money to replace the things in there. So I placed a lost item request and after about a week I got a call and they found my bag. I got my bag and every single thing is in there. I am officially an Alamo customer for life. My experience with the O'Hare Alamo rental location was, overall, quite pleasant. They were helpful and friendly upon claiming the rental on day of arrival, and even upgraded us to another car when a relative commented how nice it was. It was pretty dark inside the garage, and we were attempting to make it to a service to join the rest of our family, so I did not do what I normally would have, and inspected the vehicle and taking photos of its condition before leaving the garage. Once on the road, we noticed the car interior and exterior were dirty. Parked outdoors and in daylight, we noticed scratches, scuffs and some small dents. The interior console was dirty, the steering wheel mount was dirty, and the seats were dirty too; stains and some white dust like substance on the seats and console. The windshield wipers also had an issue either due to a bad motor or perhaps bent or old wiper. None of this was a big deal, as we only needed the vehicle for two days to be with family but here's where the problem arose- they claimed we damaged the vehicle, and pointed out a spot that had already been there. I explained all I've written to the manager, and he stated they may have missed it previously, and agreed to let their company eat the damage. My advice is to take notice of the vehicle's condition before leaving the premises. They need to clean their vehicles and do walkthroughs with their customers before releasing a vehicle, which we did not do. Otherwise, very helpful and pleasant staff, and prices were great. read more

do not rent a car with a fleet plate on it that starts with "fl" we rented a jeep wrangler. the fl was the same exact font as the rest of the plate had. the only wrangler available to us the day of the rental had one of these weird indiana fleet plates with no front license plate at all. we followed all the instructions to sign the car up on the ipass website but it did not work because it was a fleet plate beginning with "fl" not a regular passenger car license plate. ipass is well aware of the the issue and almao does nothing about it except charge their customers fines when we followed all the instructions and put our credit card on the ipass website with the correct dates and license plate. alamo has sent me emails and is trying to charge my card $30 for each toll we went through. i have spent 2 hours calling and on hold with alamo and my finance has spent 1 hour on call and hold with illinois ipass website. in total we are about 3.5 hours into this and still do not have a resolution, i also submitted an online form with alamo for the issue. avoid at all costs. they need to get rid of these plates that begin in "fl" for fleet wasting. hours of my time on this. ipass says they cant fix it, alamo is usless customer service reps. read more

TERRIBLE SERVICE. DO NOT USE THEM. WORST CAR RENTAL EXPERIENCE I HAVE EVER HAD. It's a scam. They do not repair their damaged cars. They still rent them out without any repairs made. (and you can be pretty sure they still bill the prior customer/insurance for this. I mean what do they do with the money they collect?) . Then when you pick up a car, there IS NO ONE THERE to look over the car with you--how CONVENIENT !. But when you RETURN IT they suddenly have staff to look over the car with a fine tooth comb.....even in places (like under the bumper) where you never in a million years would think to look/take a picture. If you don't take pictures of EVERY INCH of the car, you're screwed. The rep wrote up a "report" on the car we returned. Thank goodness we had taken pictures, and sent to their "recovery" unit and the case was "closed" . I then sent a complaint letter to corporate and all they did was have the car rental manager from the AIRPORT call me and he couldn't care less. He didn't even have the copies of the pictures we sent (apparently he couldn't be bothered to look at our account). -he actually asked my husband to send to him ---even though we already did, which is how we got the "case" dropped!!!! Apparently no one --whether it is corporate office or local rental management-- can even be bothered to actually LOOK at the computer and follow up properly. they do a crappy job and pass the buck. shameful practices. read more

The rental experience from Alamo could NOT have gone any better. The reviews I see below me actually shock me. We originally booked through FOX, but they didn't tell us they have such a strict no crossing state lines policy so we had to find something else on the fly that would allow us into Michigan and Wisconsin. Sixt had similar restrictions and we ended up having no luck with them so we decided to check with Alamo. The process from the second we met Antoinetta at the counter, was absolutely flawless. She was very helpful and so easy to work with. She found us the best available vehicle within our price and had us ready to go upstairs in less than 5 minutes it felt like. Once we got upstairs, Rob was an absolute star of a human being. He kindly greeted us and surprised us with a larger vehicle than what we originally booked! He must have taken one look at us and knew instantly how to help. The tank was full and the car mostly clean. I can't tell you how much this took our rough day and completely turned it around. It was such a life saver. This experience will be something we talk about for YEARS. Even post trip, when we got the exact charges it was less than what was "estimated." I was cautiously optimistic, but Alamo came through and nailed it. This was the cherry on top. Alamo has our business hands down. Antoinetta and Rob were fantastic and were the glue that kept us together that day. It might have been one small booking to them, but it was something that we will remember for a long time. I've been waiting over 3 weeks to write this review because I wanted to give these guys a chance to correct their mistake, as I've been on the phone with them for almost a month trying to convey a wrong they did to me which upper management itself does not believe was so agredious that they don't want to even fathom or believe what transpired on my rental with them. I booked a reservation for a "Premium sedan" 1 week ahead of time because I was going to be taking a 3 week trip to Michigan and I needed plenty of comfort and room for the several people that were going to be traveling with me in a business environment. When I got to the counter in broad daylight on a Monday, they look through their system and tell me they don't have any premium sedans left, and the smiling guy at thr counter asked: would I take a convertible instead, being much more expensive than a premium sedan, I said no. So then the guy says with a smile, "I can get you in a 4 door Dodge Charger for the same price as the premium sedan" painstakingly obliged because I didn't want to start a new booking with another company over my dying phone in the crowded airport terminal. I proceeded to pick up my car from the parking garage and see 3 nice sedans just sitting there in plain sight not being driven or picked up or anything, me being in a hurry I ignore it and go ahead and take my car anyways assuming it's a mistake or something and go on my way WITHOUT PAPERWORK that they were supposed to give me. Have trouble getting out because of that, fine. The air conditioning never worked in the car and they wouldn't tell me how to fix it. 3 weeks into my trip, I need to extend my stay and get quoted a total price of $2100 for the 3 week and 4 day rental. Thats what I heard CLEARLY over the phone. Fine, sounds like a good deal! Thank you very much Alamo! I get to the return line at the airport when all is said and done, and the guy taking it back looks at my receipt and is like "WHOA" this is a very high price I hope you had fun in it. I'm like "jeez" I thought it was a good deal. I take it to the counter and come to find out the rental was OVER $4,000. They charged me for the convertible price for the car after all! I said look I drove the dodge charger and was supposed to get a deal!! They don't believe me, despite watching me roll in with the freaking car. Despite many attempts to convince them of a mistake, they don't believe me. Best case scenario, this company is in agreement with eachother and apparently have a system worked out to screw over and overcharge a customer whenever an employee screws up and systematically covers for that employee and leaves the customer with a facticious bill; worst case scenario, they are running a well thought out and practiced ponzy scheme to trick and swindle customer out of their money, Whenever I call the number, I'm placed on a 1 hour hold and another 30 minute transfer time to management only to be told they believe it's my fault, or flat out don't believe me. I've had a long history of companies taking advantage of me having money as a young person employed in the tech industry and Alamo is certainly no exception! STAY AWAY FROM ALAMO, CHICAGO'O HARE. What is the point of having online and toll free customer service if they can't provide you with information that is 1) correct and real & 2) real-time pricing and status. I understand that every location is different and their availability of cars can and will change. But if a customer submits a reservation for a car via online or when talking to their agents, shouldn't that car and that request get fulfilled? During my trip I was griping with family and they told me, even when having a corporate account, it doesn't matter. F**k ups occur and there isn't any confirmation, diligence, follow through, professionalism. With rental car companies, you must plan for the potential of disasters. My last rental was AWFUL. Nice cars! But the lengths I had to go, travel and do to ensure my family made it back home to Chicago. SMH. Utter nonsense which began with getting the wrong vehicle because they did not have the vehicles requested and then lied when giving me a car that was not suitable for my trip. I took a short vacay at the end of December and thought a premium rental would be a sweet upgrade to a long drive since we weren't too keen on flying. Planned in advance, quarantined, got tested, the works. That level of commitment to travel and safety, every box had to be checked. I planned a road trip to Colorado & a car or suv must have awd. (All wheel drive.) First I submitted an online request. Then followed it with a call to CS. I called a second time before my arrival at the desk to ensure I would receive an AWD SUV. I was assured every step of the way. I paid premium monies to get an AWD vehicle. In Colorado they have "chain laws." As it sounds, it means that if your car is not AWD, you will have to put chains on your tires to ensure that you have control of your car. Due to the changing weather and the slopes on their hills, inclines and declines, accidents can & happen often. There are times motorists do not have sufficient car traction and will either stop or block traffic. I didn't want to run into any of those distractions or problems. But despite my best efforts and over a grand in charges, I was still given the wrong damn vehicle. The car I wanted was a Volkswagen SUV with AWD. The vehicle was given away. Typical story. Their census of vehicles was low and the garage guys told me I would have to wait several hours for the current returns to be cleaned. ?? I had a guy go through their available stock to find anything w/ (again) AWD. He found a BMW SUV and assured me it was AWD with all kinds of bells and whistles. I was already late to hit the road so I took the car and left. For a long while I had a suspicion this car was not AWD but since he made this long winded case about it being their last premium ride and they would not charge me additional monies, blah blah, I took his bait. The drive to Co was fine. Because the weather at the time was sunny and warm from Chicago all the way. When snow started falling I realized the car I had was actually RWD. When you have family aboard and you are constantly worried about losing control, it's unnerving. In Co, I couldn't drive anywhere. The wheel would often jerk and traction control did nothing. Parking lots of hotels had not been cleaned of snow and the BMW couldn't enter or drive down some streets. The wheels just spun. If I had just brought my own vehicle, a Subaru Forester, I would have been fine both ways. The recent storm was not bad, any normal AWD or safely driven FWD (with all weather tires) would have been fine in that weather. Driving from Co back to Chicago, I could only drive a certain speed so that we didn't slide on the road. Many cars had gone into ditches and the whole way, there were abandoned cars.
