A month or so ago, I wrote a Yelp review detailing the utter shit-fest that was our experience with the San Marcos branch of Enterprise Rent-A-Car. I realized after finishing that one up, that with many services, many people generally only want to vent about their bad experiences and generally gloss over their average to pretty good ones because, well ... it's kind of what you'd expect and there isn't much cause to go out of your way to tell people about it. Considering how much I've used and been impressed by the Encinitas branch of Enterprise Rent-A-Car, I figured I heap a little praise their way for taking care of me up to this point. And apologize for not going back to them this last Thanksgiving. But, yeah, been coming here for about five years now. Enterprise is right down the street, making them very convenient and quick to respond with a pickup and a drop off. They are always fair on pricing, happy to price match with other competitors, and all-around nice people in general. I've never been hassled with a scratch that may or may not have been there. They haven't made me feel cheap when I'm getting a compact or unwelcome just by showing up in anything less than a suit. And I've always gotten a clean car and never had any technical problems with any machine I've rented from here. Now that I've gotten about 10+ vehicles from here over the years, that's a nice and trustworthy record. So, yeah ... I like and very much recommend Encinitas Enterprise Rent-A-Car. read more

We had decided to rent a compact car, and were told it would be ready at 1:00 PM. We arrived at 1:15 to discover that there were four other people ahead of us. They had several employees, but one was at lunch, another was manning the desk AND handling the cars outside. When I finally got my car, it was NOT a compact but rather a huge seven-seater van! I finally hit the road at 2:20 and then got caught in four hours of traffic heading to LA. The huge van was a real gas guzzler and was given to me with less than a half-filled tank. I don't write many reviews but this company has literally FORCED me to write this one. Needed a rental car on December 16th, 2019. Called Enterprise in Encinitas and was told they had "plenty" of luxury, full size cars available. Got there an hour later to find exactly three cars on their lot; a minivan, a Ford Focus, and a Nissan Sentra. Wth? Okay, griped a little to the Enterprise rep, who was very professional, apologetic, and understanding, but it obviously wasn't his fault. Anyway, rented the Sentra and I was on my way. That's when the fun began... I received a "feedback survey" that evening. I filled it out with almost exactly what I just typed above. Got a response that this will be escalated to management and they are SO customer focused, they ASSURE me someone will respond quickly. Heh... It has been over one month and FOUR "automated customer response" emails, and I have yet to hear from anyone directly in authority with Enterprise. No call, no text, no letter, no email. Nothing. It has become comical. Please see the photo below. Apologies for the small size but it was the only way I could condense the multiple emails into one screenshot. Just blow it up and you'll see the entire conversation. Kind of sad... I take the time to respond each time and all I get is a "form letter" automated customer service email with no actual follow-through or ownership by management. Very disappointing. I travel and rent cars quite often, and unfortunately will not give my business to Enterprise any longer. And this could have been easily avoided by a simple phone call or direct email. If you're reading this I would suggest doing the same. The only way companies will improve is to listen, care, and respond directly to customers when they take the time to respond. HTH. read more

Once you actually get a hold of someone. Renting a vehicle from them is a decent experience. But good luck getting anyone there to answer a phone. Sorely understaffed or just no sense of real world customer service. I would like to say this is the only enterprise you can't get to answer a phone. But I would be lying. We called in advance and reserved a 4 wheel drive suburban suv for a family Big Bear trip. Once we got to Enterprise they let us know that a walk in had just taken the SUV we had reserved. They apologized, then continued to say they had no other 4 wheel drive SUV's. Now we are stuck with a paid cabin for 3 days and no 4 wheel drive (safe) transportation (can't drive my Lexus up the mountain). Really disappointed at the moment. Now I'm calling every local car rental company on New Years Eve/ Husband's Birthday, while my kids are at home waiting with their luggage packed and ready to go. 3 stars to start, since I only made my reservation and haven't yet been to the office. I talked to Scott who was very efficient and helpful. I didn't want a small car, and prefer a larger, luxury sedan. He said they didn't have one at the time but would check around for me, since I don't need it for a few days until I take my car in to Rancho Auto Body. So he's going to call me back with the selections, and we'll see. So far so good... Followup: 6/11/12 I took my car in to Rancho Auto Body, they called Enterprise, and Enterprise picked me up right on time at the body shop and drove me to Enterprise office. I am now driving a big white Buick something or other. Don't like small cars. Everything was very efficient. Good on ya, Enterprise. read more

Enterprise Rent-A-Car - Awesome vehicle! - Car Rental Near Me - Encinitas, California

Initially no stars -Felt like I was on a Seinfeld episode. reservation was originally made by AAA I was given a minivan, I requested a smaller vehicle and was told they would have some in a day or two. I called the next day (Tuesday) and was told I could switch out Wednesday afternoon, I told the girl I'd be in a 6 to switch she said that was fine. I went to switch out and was told they had cars earlier but no longer had a smaller car to switch out. No apology, the guy, Brandon, didn't seem to care, no customer service. AAA is paying but I wouldn't use Enterprise in the future. UPDATE: I called this morning and talked to Caliah. She did apology and said she would handle the switch. I went at 5:00, Tina helped me and was nice, she also apologized for my prior experience and waived the gas fee as a curtesy. Much better experience. Had given 1 star but increased to 3 after these two ladies corrected issue. read more

I took my Ford in to be serviced and they set up a loaner car for me at Enterprise. When I first got to Enterprise I was told it would take 15 min. It was reasonable so I waited outside. After a half hour I checked with the desk person again and was told it would be another 10-15 min. After 15 min. I checked again and they told me they were getting the car out of wherever they had it but it needed to be gassed up so it would only be a few min. I waited and waited and no car. I waited for over an hour in total. I finally went into the office and told them to cancel it due to poor service. Even though we live 20 min. away, I called my husband to pick me up. Terrible service at this location. I felt they lied to me each time I asked about the car. If I would've known it was going to take over an hour, I would've had my husband follow me to Ford. I rent cars for business everywhere in the US. I stay with this location in Encintas when I am local because I continue to gain National Rental Car points. 1) Always have someone new working - they are flustered and overwhelmed each time. There is always technical errors with their version of "Ipads" 2) When you book on-line this does not correspond to their inventory on the lot. Each time I get a phone call saying they are out of cars. EACH TIME. 3) The pick up service is usually inaccurate and always late. The driveR is great but there is a disconnect in their communication. I am surprised in a day and age of UBER that there can be such gross operational and technical errors. You would think they would want to operate towards excellence. I rent a car several times a month now I need to find another location so I can keep my National points which always seems to operate so well and with great efficiency. These guys were great, from the manager, asst manager, and rep! After a car accident, one feels vulnerable, and it was so nice to feel I was in good, honest hands with these guys. They were quick and responsive to any questions or needs. The car was great, and they also offered to change it if I didn't like it after a day. The pick up and drop off service is great too, fast and expedient. Can't say enough for the experience. If I could give this place a zero star review I would! Super unprofessional, impolite and no idea how to run a business. There was no car available when we came to pick up for our reservation. They said they might not even be able to get us our car THAT DAY. People were there waiting for HOURS who had reservations yet enterprise had no cars. They overbooked themselves and could not provide. Bad business. Daniel - the guy working - was obviously completely annoyed. Never apologetic. Enterprise has always exuded consistent professionalism and clean/safe vehicles which is why I always rent with enterprise. However, the level of customer service and genuine care/concern varies at every location. Hands down- best experience at this enterprise location as the manager goes above and beyond to ensure your needs and expectations are exceeded. If there was an option of no stars I would use that. I received a call yesterday confirming my car pick up for 12 o'clock today however about 1130 today I received a call to say we have no cars for you to rent. Imagine my surprise considering this reservation was made a month and a half ago. They said they would continue to look around but they were not sure they would have a car for me. Imagine the frustration when I leave out of town at 6 o'clock tomorrow morning and have no car to get there. When asked about other enterprise locations in the area including the airport I was told they don't have a phone at the airport location because everybody would just be spending time on the phone answering calls. So I got back on the Costco travel site and got a hold of Budget who actually had a car available however I had to drive from Encinitas down to the San Diego Airport and back during traffic hour. Enterprise, THE CAR RENTAL COMPANY THAT LEAVES YOU STRANDED! I requested a pickup when I made my reservation and they never showed up. When I called the Encinitas office, they said they don't show a pick up in their system and that I'll have to wait about an hour and that I should have called them 1.5 hour ahead of time. My reservation confirmation email clearly showed the pick up address and time . I even called Enterprise corporate customer service and they also saw the pickup location and time and said that I should not have to call on the day of. The Encinitas store manager wouldn't even give me any discount on the rental. I ended up cancelling the reservation and Ubered to another rental agency. In response to the response from Enterprise below, I've emailed care@enterprise.com with all the info they requested. I will update this review IF I hear back from them. read more

ZERO STARS would be the appropriate rating ! Layla (I can't give a last name, since she refused to give it to me) the manager of this branch in Encinitas has to be the Rudest most uncooperative employees of any business I've Ever encountered! I came in to pick up a car that was Reserved by the local Ford dealership days previous. I was THE ONLY PERSON IN THE BRANCH. So didn't appear busy at all. A very nice young lady Julie was helping me. Took all my normal information, then somewhat disappeared for about ten minutes. Again..... think i was the ONLY customer there at that time. I was standing there for quite some time, so I walk back to where another employee that was on the phone. I waited for her to end her call. Then asked her where Julie had gone.... This lady (Layla) barked back..... "WE'RE VERY BUSY..........OK!!) I "tried" to talk to her, but she was Rev'd up and again very angrily stated...... "WE're very busy.......Ok!" I was frankly shocked she was yelling at me the customer ??? It Was Bazar! I barked back and said..... you all are talking forever, some of us have to go to work. She then said I was being rude, and is refusing to give me the car that Ford had reserved for me. I am BLOWN away anybody, more so a Manager would treat any customer in this manner. Layla must have been having a reallllllly bad morning. Layla needs customer sensitivity training 101! If Layla was my employee, I'd be giving her an opportunity to gain new employment!!! I had to rent a car for a week and chosed this place. I got a Dodge Suv, a very nice car but I forgot to check if it was clean inside and it actually looked like trash. I had to go to clean it myself because apparently their car wash was closed that day, they also didn't let me know it's dirty when I took it and they did not replaced my car with a similar one when I asked for it after 30 minutes after l I signed the rental. I'm vacillating between 2 and 3 stars. 2 because there was a cluster f*ck Monday morning when I showed up to pick up my car. It took over an hour for them to bring me a car and I had a reservation. To me a reservation means that I don't have to wait. Right? They didn't have a single car in their lot. Instead they were all at the car wash next door which happens to open at 8. So why knowing this would they let me make a reservation for 7:30 when the car I am supposed to receive wouldn't be ready until after 8? I have no idea. Another 2 was the female employee who appeared to be the manager talked so loudly it was hard to hear yourself think. At one point she was in the back on the phone and I could hear better than the employee who was standing right in front of me. I had to ask him to repeat what he was saying to me because she was so loud. She really needs to learn to use an indoor voice. She must have previously worked in a place where she and her customers were 1000 feet apart. It was ridiculous and highly grating. Another thing she did was an elderly customer stopped another employee on their way out the door to ask when their rental would be ready and the female employee interrupted and told the employee to "GO and do what you're supposed to" Then in her booming voice began to explain to the couple why things were taking so long and how it wasn't her fault blah blah blah. It came off pretty aggressive and really seemed to put off the many people who were in the lobby waiting. I'm sure she didn't mean to be rude but that is how it came off. So after I finally got my car and drove off the lot I realized it stunk.......bad. Smelled like cigarette smoke with baby powder. *puke* So I called because I didn't want to be blamed for smoking in the car. This is where the extra star would come in. Steve helped me and bent over backwards to remedy the situation. When I came back the process was quick. I got out of there in 5 minutes. This ultimately would have been a 4 star experience if the morning would have gone as efficiently as the afternoon experience. I would recommend anyone considering renting from this place to try and avoid the Monday rush. I don't know if this is the norm or not but it was a nightmare. read more

I unfortunately was needing a rental from a car accident that left me very shaken up and confused. Kofi was so kind and very helpful that it made the process very easy. Kofi has a calm demeanor which relaxed me while my brain was still processing the car accident. I really appreciate wonderful customer service and care. Made my reservation a month in advance. I called for a pickup and got Yelled at by this high-strung female that my reservation was for 10AM so I can't get picked up at 9:00AM because they have no cars o_O Then the charming young guy sweet talks me into taking the CDW which he claimed was on special for $6.99. The car has out of state plates and some seriously high mileage on it. I asked why it didn't reflect the $6.99 price on the pink invoice, he swore up n down it would appear on my final invoice when I returned the car. Well lo n behold I return the car 2-weeks later and I get rude miss high-strung who YELLS that NO the CDW was never on special it always is the same price $8.99. Well that will be the LAST I rent from those con artist at that location ever again. read more

I had a reservation and arrived on Saturday. The check in process was extremely fast. The staff was on the ball and I was on the road in a few minutes. The return was a similar experience except it was even faster. The car was almost new and very comfortable (Nissan Altima). I will use them again. read more

I was involved in a car accident & our corp office contacted for enterprise to supply replacement car. The manager, David, did not want to assist me to pick me up cuz it was too far away although their site said it was closest. He was rude and not customer service focused. He just kept bringing up he was short staffed. That may be true but I was flexible in timing of service. He was to call me to confirm, did not and then when I contacted him, again he wouldn't try to assist. If I had a choice I would not have continued to utilize this location, especially after he said "you are welcome that we are giving you the free ride". read more

Took 35min to pick up my car, totally ridiculous. In addition, they did not have any cars to pick from so I got a huge gas guzzler town car. The car was not take care of and smelled of smoke. Next I take off down the road and notice I only have 1/4 tank of gas. Will never rent from here again. The Avis in Encinitas is much better. read more

This place is very efficient and friendly. I prefer renting a car here because they typically have a good selection of cars (sometimes they have hybrid models for the same price as a mid-size). I would recommend renting a car here if you live in Encinitas. If you live in Carlsbad, then rent from the Enterprise by Legoland. I'm taking off one star because the cars they have here typically are higher mileage (21-35k miles on 2010 models) cars, look a little bit more used, and I've had a few rentals that desperately needed an oil change. If you want a low mileage, excellent condition car, then rent one from the La Costa Resort and Spa Enterprise location. They tend to have the newer/nicer sedans. read more

A small shop with limited car selection, especially now in vacation season, but I am giving them five stars for their courtesy and service, in light of some of the crazy demanding customers they deal with so patiently! I was sitting there waiting yesterday and overheard some nutty demands from customers and couldn't believe my ears! People can't you behave and treat people in service jobs with a bit more class?? HIGHLIGHTS: friendly service, affordable pricing The staff at this Enterprise are friendly and professional. They coordinate very well with Fender Mender down the street. The car I had ended up having a flat tire and was running low on air the day before I returned it. While I was in the lobby area I heard another client complain of the same problem. The only down-side to this Enterprise is the location. El Camino is pretty busy in that area and you have to go through a crowded parking lot to get to their store. read more

How are you going to close right at the same time as a reservation? Why allow the booking in the first place.

Booked a car rental over two weeks ago to take family to my father in law's funeral. Was supposed to pick the vehicle up today at noon. Received a call at 8am this morning stating that they didn't have a car for our reservation but they were trying to locate one and would call us back. Never heard back. Went to Enterprise at 11:45am and got the run around. No one willing to help rectify the situation. None of the employees seemed the least bit concerned or helpful. Spent our day trying to chase down another vehicle. This is not a legit way to do business. People rely on reservations for a reason! read more

Worst costumer service! We had a flat tire and needed to swap out our vehicle. We were told that Enterprise would swap it out for an SUV similar to what we have. Instead they only offered us a four door truck that was dirty and smelled like smoke. Do not rent from Enterprise if you want a company that follows through on their promises and is honest.
