Well, well, well... it's been a while since I've had service this bizarre…read more Buckle up--this one's a ride. Avoid this location unless you're up for an escape room experience with car keys. We spent two hours Ubering around in the rain trying to find our rental car, encountered abysmal customer service, and ended up suspecting fraud from this Hertz location. Here's the story: Despite being Gold members and booking through corporate Hertz, we were shocked to learn--only after arriving at TYS airport--that our car wasn't there at all. Instead, we were told it was over 17 miles away at a small regional airstrip: Downtown Island Airport. No shuttle--just a "good luck, Uber yourself there." Once we arrived, things got weirder. There was zero Hertz signage, no car in sight, and even the flight school employees onsite had never heard of a Hertz pickup happening there. Corporate eventually admitted the situation was ridiculous, promised to comp the entire rental, and told us to head to the nearest Hertz branch (another 10 miles away). That's where we met Megan. After finishing up what looked like a pretty disheartening conversation with a father-son duo over insurance coverage, Megan turned to us--clearly ready to battle. She immediately launched into how it would be "very inconvenient" for them to retrieve the car that had supposedly been dropped at the back of the airport... keys inside... unsupervised...? (By the way, this branch is only 1 mile further than the airstrip, so why not deliver it there in the first place?) I looked for a name tag--none. But a quick Yelp search made her identity crystal clear: Megan, and yes, there were photos and video thumbnails of her yelling at customers and allegedly ripping clothing off people. You really can't make this up. Megan then tried to deny us the car because we didn't physically have the original card we used for booking with corporate. Thankfully, we got Hertz on the phone and had the payment switched to a card we did have. (That's when the whole thing really started to feel like a scam.) We did end up with a car--and oddly, Megan seemed almost... impressed? Like we'd passed a test no one was supposed to pass. But wait--days later we noticed unauthorized charges from Hertz totaling $300, and corporate had no idea where they came from. So Megan? You can take that one up with the bank. An absolutely wild situation start to finish.

While we were on the drive over, Sam left us a voicemail, stating that there was no truck available for us (the corporate office does not have most up-to-date inventory, apparently). When we arrived, Sam was very apologetic and stated that there would be a truck for us at 2 pm that same day. I asked if we would get it for a full 24 hours and he said we needed to call customer service to find out. *sigh* Customer service told us that Sam was the one who needed to verify. In general, the Budget system needs MAJOR revamping/improvements if they are not all on the same page or accurate with inventory, yet allow people to book vehicles that aren't even available via the online site or through corporate. Once the truck was available, Sam called to let us know it was ready for pickup and he would hold it for us. I was actually impressed with his service. The star reductions are for the overall, lackluster Budget rental process. Don't be cheap like me. Pay the extra $30 and spring for the fancy UHaul. ;-)

I expressed my concern about it being later than 10 a.m. and was assured that the car would be there and available. The reason this was important to us is that I had come to TN from Indiana to meet my son, who had come to TN from Utah so he and his family, which includes my three-year old grandson, could take/use my vehicle to go on to the Outer Banks and I, with the rental, could head home to Indiana. I'm 66 years old and wanted to get home by late afternoon as I had other obligations. Upon arrival to pick up the rental we were told we'd just have to set down and wait. We reminded them that we were assured the car would be there and ready, and all they said was it wasn't there and we'd just have to wait. I asked if they could find out where the car was and how long it would be before it arrived and was told no. My son asked if they could call another Budget Rental in the area to see if they had anything available and he was told no. The man behind the desk told my son that he, my son, had made the reservation so he would have to make the call and have other arrangements made. He asked for the Corporate Office number and when the gentlemen gave it to him he said, "Please, go ahead and call them". We were told they had no cars available but after I went outside, I noticed a line of vehicles being cleaned at the side of their building. Never in my life have I been treated so rudely by a business. These people were unprofessional, inconsiderate and rude. By 10:30 a vehicle was made available but it was not the type we requested. I will never do business with Budget Rent a Car at this location again.

First, I was told the rental would be $300, not the $160 total I was given when I reserved the car. So I went to my bank & was able to move some money. I get back & the price was now $435 - "oh, it's a $300 deposit plus the rental fee." I wasn't able to move anymore money & have it be available that same day. So my boyfriend came & we used his card to make the reservation & I was added as an additional driver "It's only $15 extra for an additional driver." Wrong! It's $15 PER DAY. I was given a silver Corolla this time which was priced at $512, but had to wait because it was being cleaned. That car was filthy when I was finally handed the keys. Bird mess all over the outside, trash in the floorboards, dirt ground into the floorboards, no floor mats, pet hair all over the backseat. When I returned the car 15 minutes before the return time, they didn't have time to check my car in then, but promised to back-time the return my emailed receipt (they were too busy to print me a receipt then) so it didn't look like the car was returned late. When I got my email receipt, it showed that I had returned the car 15 minutes late. I called the location, but the person who answered the phone didn't want to help me & made it pretty clear by interrupting me almost every time I spoke & acting like they just did not care. They said to make it up to me, I could come back to their location & pick up a business card with a manager signature on it to get a free day of rental, for their location only. If I were to ever rent a car from Enterprise (unlikely), it would not be at that location. When I declined, the person on the phone said "Ok, well you're all set then." & stopped speaking. So I said "Thanks for your great service.", & ended the call. I've only rented one other car before, but it was from Avis & the overall experience was so much better. Avoid Enterprise.

The staff is always super friendly (never have I had a bad experience) and sometimes when the husband goes on his lunch break to rent a car and they need to make a copy of my driver license they will allow me to come in later that day to do so. Needless to say I was never able to get copy of my rental contract which I needed to drive on a military base for a graduation ceremony. I had to make other arrangements. I took car back early. We left without any hassle, continued our search, and then came back a couple-few days later and re-test drove the Range Rover to confirm it was our top choice.
