This and one other car lot in Knoxville has ended my days shopping at these little "Billy bob" car places. I live about 2 hours away and partially worked the deal over the phone on a Vehicle they advertised on Cargurus. I personally don't believe in dishonest negotiations, I asked for what was a fair trade for my vehicle given its condition cosmetically (2014 Toyota Camry 130k miles).
At the time of this review my trade was selling for $13-14k on several different marketplaces. I asked for $10k. Perfectly reasonable. Everything seemed great until we get to numbers and they concoct a story about my transmission failing in 4th gear and they'll have to replace with a brand new $2000 transmission. Mind you this is a 2014 CAMRY with only 130k miles. It can go another 150k miles without needing a new transmission. I drive it on the interstate every week and opened it up to 80 mph without a single issue that very day. They even went so far as to pretend to take a mechanic on a test drive from a shop next door. After they claimed to have been gone on the drive, I stepped outside to make a phone call and saw them just sitting in my car parked. After a few seconds they pulled out like a bat out of hell and came back a few minutes later.
I go back in to hear this mechanic basically parrot what he's told from this douchebag trying to rob me of my trade. They offered me $8k. I told them "I'm not just giving you my car. I asked $10k I expect $10k and I've not even started haggling on your vehicle yet because you got me to drive down here promising to give me what I asked for on my trade. The leather in yours is scratched all to pieces anyway." Needless to say I left and showed them my tail lights. Do NOT give these crooks your time of day and especially not your business. They're massive egos need brought down to Earth.
After here I went to one other "Billy Bob" car lot that's family ran and they were nice human beings so I won't bash them by name but I knew more about my trade and KBB than they did and they only used some local high interest place for financing and they couldn't even give me an answer until the next day. I ended up getting exactly what I asked for at Mini of Knoxville. I guess my transmission suddenly fixed itself?
TL;DR version? These crooks tried to make up a story about a transmission to improve their gross profit. Just Auto is Just a Joke. read more
