Update: I stopped into the branch on Thursday the 25th and had a discussion with George about my experience. He reviewed the account and found a satisfactory solution. Sarah had noted the account appropriately but the other gentleman that gave me my final invoice overlooked the notes or just didn't bother looking at all. The only reason I gave 4 stars is because the car I rented was just, meh. They didn't have any direct control over that. 5 stars to George and Sarah. While I was there, the car attendant had found my sunglasses in the console of the car and put them in the drawer. Bonus. Don't waste your time with corporate. If there's an issue with your rental, go to the branch and odds are, you can find a solution there. Corporate's right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing, imo. I rented a vehicle from the Mundelein store May 18-22 of 2026. On the return trip home, we ran into delays from Wisconsin due to heavy construction and congestion. I stopped at a rest area and called the office in Mundelein to advise them that I was going to be late past my 11:00 a.m. return time and gave them my ETA asked off I should expect to get dinged with any overtime charges? The young lady I spoke to at the office stated, "don't worry about it, you'll be fine" (or words to that effect). After returning and getting a clean post-inspection, I was told by the gentleman in the office that everything looked good and that he'd send me my final receipt via email. A couple of hours later, I received the invoice and I was somewhat surprised to see I was billed $51.46 for the late return. I guess I should have demanded a straight answer about late charges when I originally spoke to the young lady but I assumed, don't worry about it, you'll be fine, meant we'll wave it. I've rented a fair amount of vehicles from this specific Enterprise location over a lot of years and have never had an issue. I've never had anyone mislead me or use vague statements. A little later in the day, I received a boiler plate text that was supposedly from the Mundelein location, asking me to reply with any questions or concerns that I had concerning the rental. I replied and explained the issue and that I was upset after being told one thing and something different happening. I never received a reply back from that inquiry. I then called Enterprise corporate later that day to inquire with customer service and was told that a manager would be contacting me to follow up and that hopefully they'd find a solution to the situation. No one has called to date. I wouldn't have had an issue with the $51 had I been simply told honestly and straightforwardly up front, when I called in, "sorry, there will be a charge for the late return". Is it that difficult to simply be truthful and straightforward? Apparently at this particular location there is now. I wasn't dealt with in an honest and straightforward fashion, THAT is what upsets me! I made a courtesy call to try and possibly help them make any logistical changes if they needed to around my return time and I get treated disingenuously. If this is what I have to expect from Enterprise going forward, there certainly are other rental companies I can begin to forge a relationship with, going forward. read more

This by far is the worst Enterprise location I've ever dealt with, and I've traveled for work for years dealing with numerous rental companies. I've used this location on 2 separate personal occasions and have had nothing but problems. The first rental experience was less than a year ago, and resulted in me having to swap cars due to issues with the vehicles. While I didn't swap vehicles a 3rd time, I did call them to tell the vehicle they provided right when I left smelled like smoke. We didn't discuss a rental swap at that time, but they did not clean the vehicle that they swapped out for me and had other another driver's rental agreement in the console. I called again to coordinate a rental, spoke with them earlier in the morning and they said they would have larger vehicles in the afternoon, but nothing now. Great, we were going to be later in the afternoon. I called again to confirm after 12:00 PM central, spoke with a team member that said we had 2 options for vehicles, a minivan and a suburban to which I told them to the minivan, and we would be at 3:45 PM, which they confirmed. This was fine until I called at 3:30 PM to have them pick up which they tell me they only have small vehicles. Employee proceeds to tell me they have no other vehicles, to which I questioned then why did the person prior tell me the vehicle options? What is the point of confirming if they are just going to give vehicles away? Employee refuses to give any support now and there are no managers they can call or reach out to, told me to just call their customer service line. I've had nothing but great interactions with their Grayslake location for years as well, but this is the most poorly run location I've ever dealt with. read more

They told me I could not make a reservation in person, I had to do it on line. So I reserved a car on line and did the on line check in. We had a very disappointing experience with this car rental service. For the second consecutive day, the vehicle we had reserved was given away, forcing us to reschedule our booking. The company requires customers to adhere to an exact pickup time but does not provide any flexibility or time window. In our case, we called to confirm approximately 1.5 hours after the scheduled time, only to be informed that the vehicle was no longer available. Despite renting through our insurance, the company was unwilling to hold the vehicle even for a short period. This lack of accommodation and poor reservation management made the entire experience frustrating and unreliable. read more

I have rented vehicles from this location every month for a week over the last couple of years. Unfortunately, this operation has gone downhill from management in the way that they treat their customers, to the quality of the vehicles. My most recent rental not only had a terrible odor but also was given to me with less than an eighth tank of gas. I was told that I can switch to another vehicle, but there would be an up charge. If that was not enough, once I left the premises a warning message informed me that an oil change as well as service inspection was due for this car. As I continued down the road, another warning popped up that the key battery is dead. After being an incredibly loyal customer and renting every single month for business travel, I was treated more than poorly by the manager. They clearly did not understand the issues that the car they had given me with over 51,000 miles, a terrible odor, and service / safety issues should not be rented out to customers. For some reason, the manager took this personally. I was told I was aggressive, and rude. No concessions were offered. Instead I was informed that in the future I should call the night before to ensure I have a "good" vehicle ready for me, and that they would take good care of me. Obviously, this is a ridiculous request, putting in a reservation should be more than enough to ensure a decent vehicle is available to be rented. Both the fleet of vehicles and management training are in need of severe updating. There are plenty of other car rental operations in the area, I would recommend any of them over the Mundelein location. read more

Made a reservation 2 months in advance. Went to mundelein location at 8am and was told they did not have vehicle as requested and would not have one till 12 hours later. This was a planned vacation rental. After showing disgust, disappointed and questioned why it wasn't there I was told there was nothing that could be done. Not even offered a replaced and when asked about a replacement was told if I wanted to pay almost double I could take that vehicle. I had an appointment to pick up a rental car this morning. They knew I was coming. When we got there, they had no cars and didn't expect any until the afternoon. They could have managed a bad situation with some common sense customer service but there was no phone call to save me the trip or give me a heads up I would need to find another vehicle. And no back up plan to get me a car when promised. Ridiculously poor customer service. Response to Enterprise: There is nothing to address via email. I was put in a bind on a morning when I needed and planned on having a car, so I had to scramble to find a car elsewhere. One can argue whether or not car availability for customers with reservations is outside of a car rental company's control. (I mean, it's the one thing you do, so not having cars is like a restaurant thinking they can stay in business without food.). But the lack of customer service to give me a heads up on the situation made a bad situation worse, and that was squarely in your control. read more

This outfit essentially is a scam when renting cars while yours in in the shop. My insurance covers $25 a day, and thru them I reserved a car at $26 a day from this location. Sounds like a reasonable deal. When the car arrived at the repair shop, they said it was $28 a day. OK, just an annoyance. The agent said fuel service was based on $3.49 a gallon. Fair enough. So. after 17 days of rental and only 87 miles, what did they charge? Well the 87 miles cost $41.88 for fuel!!! That's just under $2 a mile. Basic fraud. And car rental rate? Well, they charged the insurance company $25 a day including taxes and a "VCF" fee. In addition to that, they charged me $5.13 a day for "Time and Distance", $41.88 for the 87 miles worth of gas, and $11.47 for Sales tax, Rental tax, and "VCF" fee. So, $33.26 a day overall for a car promised at $26 a day. Stay far away from this company! read more

If I could give it no stars I would. I booked a car over the phone, they promised it would be there. I showed up that weekend to pick it up. The store was packed and there was one employee working. After a 30 min wait and hearing the employee saying she was out of cars I asked if I would have one since I booked ahead of time. She said that the cars were gone. Already being late to my event, I ended up having to be driven back home by a family member, get my car and drive an hour out of my way to borrow another family members car. I was very late to my event and had to drive an additional hour back to return the family members car and pick up mine. Because my car was getting fixed by an Auto Body shop, I decided to rent a car from Enterprise. To make it short & sweet---- The drivers that drove me back and forth to the body shop were very nice and cordial. However, there was a female staff member in the office that was giving me false hope. When my car was ready to pick up, I told her that I would get to the Body shop first (because they close earlier), she highly recommended that I first drop off the rental at Enterprise "first" & they would get me a ride within 10 minutes. Worst customer service in any Enterprise branch I dealt with. Very unhelpful and very rude. Branches don't work as one company. My insurance booked me a car, the branch close to the repair shop didn't have cars (in the category of my insurance company - they told me I have to pay for upgrades to get a car), they gave me a pickup truck and told me to swap at the branch by my house (Mundelein). The branch by my house told me I should go back to the other branch (~25 miles away) and they don't have cars! I requested to put me on waiting list for the next day, but the manager told me they won't have cars for the next few days, and asked me to check back after the weekend (i was there on Thursday) or to go to other branches. I didn't feel safe driving a pickup truck, but he didn't care and didn't try to help. He said he can't reserve a car for me, i have to keep calling after few days may be I will get lucky and he'll have a car! Can you believe a rental car company without cars for few days! In addition, the car that he arranged for me to rent was relatively new and the same size and type as my car. I have always used Enterprise on Townline. However, for an upcoming trip, I decided to use the "we try harder" company in Libertyville. When I got there to pick up my car, all three vehicles in my requested category were filthy on the inside. I decided not to do business with them. Didn't look like they were trying too hard. I called Zack at Enterprise in Mundelein (Rt 60). He put me into a new Ford Fusion. The car was pristine and the cost was significantly lower. When I told him I was going on a business trip out of state, he double checked the tire pressure for me. The employees at Enterprise in Mundelein do, indeed, try harder. read more

I rented a car from Enterprise this past weekend. The car had engine problems 4 hours from home. I called Enterprise on Saturday afternoon and was told that a tow truck would come and get the car within 15 minutes, which happened. I was also told that another car would come and get us and bring us to the nearest Enterprise office within 1 hour, ok fine. 1 hour passed and no ride. I called Enterprise back and they said the tow truck driver was supposed to give us a ride to Enterprise, which was not what I was told. They then proceeded to tell me to get a cab or an Uber to bring me to Enterprise - say what! Well we did and had to pay for it!! Got to Enterprise in the Uber and was told they were sold out!!!! Now this is Saturday afternoon, in Lacrosse Wisconsin at the airport which was basically shut down, no other companies to rent a car from, so basically I was stuck. If not for the most wonderful women (I'll call her our angel), working at the Enterprise office at Lacrosse Airport, we would have been stuck with no way out, at least until Monday. On Monday morning I got a bill from Enterprise charging me for the full amount + gas. No phone call to find out what happened, just a bill - really!!! I called Enterprise and told them my story and was told that if I was in a more populated area this would not have happened.,are you kidding me!!! How about you get your service corrected, let's start there. Well Enterprise discounted me from a 3 day rental to a 1 day rental at my request. Quite frankly, if I was running the office (Mundelein, il) I would have compensated the entire trip, but that's just me and makes good business, but whatever. My biggest regret was not getting the name of the women at LaCrosse Airport working for Enterprise on Saturday afternoon July, 29th. I was not the only "problem" she had and her professionalism, quick thinking, positive attitude under very chaotic conditions needs to be commended. First of all, when I made my rental appointment I informed them it was being covered by insurance so therefore it would need to fit the coverage limit. When I got here, the car the woman told me I would be getting was no where in sight, and the man who helped me took it upon hisself to bring me a car that was $3 extra a day out of pocket. The fact that I was not even informed of this before the vehicle was pulled up to the door is pathetic. If the original car I was going to rent is not there, that should have been made aware to me and other options should have been presented. Instead the man who helped me told me absolutely nothing about the car I would be getting until he was asking me to sign the paperwork for it. Second of all, there is a dried white substance, maybe ice cream, sunscreen, bodily fluids, I'm not sure. Either way I shouldn't have to be guessing what the mysterious white substance is that's splattered on the interior of the car. So, in regards to the mandatory down payment and absurd daily rental prices, where is the money going? Because it clearly doesn't go into cleaning your cars or properly training your staff. read more

Enterprise Plus Member~thousands spent with Enterprise over the last few years for travel. Car in for repair & contacted Enterprise, understood the daily rate, thought I had declined the coverage (considerable up-sell routine in the repair lot) & received the email receipt for expected charges only to find when extending for 3 more days the total included 'coverage' at twice the daily rate!!! This is a Hyundai, not a luxury import, not a vacation, using it for regular travels. Waste of 2 hours of my time asking me to drive back to the location 'so they can see the car' Hello~was I not wearing PRADA when I rented the Hyundai~What is that about? Offered to 'split it with me'? Worse the up-sell started again. Cheeky. Hogwash~Lesson learned, know my Auto Policy covers me in any car I drive. Maybe the real money for the employees is through up-selling the insurance coverage? Thanks for adjusting that BS $$$ off the bill~however, beware. Once burned twice shy.
