Apparently, a reservation does not actually mean anything. As a result, we were left scrambling at the last minute to find another option as my daughter had to move out as her lease was up. The situation cost us over $600 in additional expenses and more than four hours of our time. Penske was able to provide a truck, but the rate was over $600 more because it was a last-minute booking. I thought I was being proactive by booking with Budget weeks ago, but unfortunately, I chose the wrong company. Budget offered no solution, except suggesting that I call their competitors. The guy I talked to on the phone even said "this is no way to run a business". The entire purpose of making a reservation is to avoid exactly this kind of problem. If you need a truck and are counting on it being available, I would not rent from Budget. This experience turned what should have been a straightforward move into a frustrating and expensive ordeal.

When we arrived, there was no van--and no plan to provide one. Our entire day had to be reorganized at the last minute, scrambling to find parents to transport our youth group to its service projects. Later that same week, Enterprise failed to honor a second reservation. Two vans were sitting on the lot, but the manager told us they were being given to another customer because they "rented more often." Once again, we were forced to scramble to keep the trip from falling apart. Unfortunately, this wasn't an isolated incident. Vehicle returns routinely aren't checked in unless you insist they do it while you wait. On one occasion, it took nearly two weeks--and intervention from Enterprise corporate--to get our deposit refunded. We filed two complaints with corporate and were promised a "rapid and satisfactory resolution." Nothing happened. This location used to be well managed. Today, it is unreliable, unprofessional, and impossible to trust. Reservations are meaningless, commitments are not honored, and customer service disappears when there is a problem. We will never rent from this location again, and we've encouraged our church community to do the same. After sharing our experience, several members told us they had experienced similar problems.

Their sister location (airport -- same franchise, apparently) was just as bad. They complained that Hertz corporate shouldn't be sending customers to them. (Yes, while wearing a Hertz uniform and standing under a Hertz sign.) Finally coughed up a dirty car after an hour wait. Charged the wrong card (not the one I *handed* them) and surreptitiously changed the rate to charge mileage (vs. original unlimited plan). Every question/ask for help was responded to with "We're a franchise: we refuse to help you." And Hertz corporate was just as bad... "They are a franchise: they can do whatever they want (or don't want)."

I have recently experienced this twice on the phone for 2 different rental reservations and saw it first hand while picking up my rental. The people are very argumentative, loud and not friendly at all. The way the people talk to you, you would think I was stealing the vehicle and never returning; which wasn't the situation. Instantly from the moment they contact you it's very hostile and aggressive, when that tone just isn't necessary or a way to handle customers. I think this seriously needs to be addressed. The people working the front desk and outside were great, no issues there at all. I even saw a manager go above and beyond for a customer complaint issue. But the people handling the phones need some customer service training asap! This has definitely altered my opinion of this entire branch.

However, I don't want other customers to have the same experience I had. The smiling faces and positive customer service must have been a front for the substandard quality of rental cars I would receive from this branch. After waiting an hour to pickup my first rental, the detailer pulled it around with all the windows down. That should have been a sign. Within a day, the overwhelming cleansing scent had dissipated, and the clear smell of smoke became apparent. My eyes started itching and I got a headache while driving. I didn't think much of it, so I called the branch and scheduled a replacement. When picking up the replacement, I got in and immediately smelled smoke again. I asked the employee at the front desk to come smell the car to make sure I wasn't going crazy. She said she didn't smell anything, so I thought maybe it was a smoke smell on me carried over from the last vehicle. Within a day, the smell became so apparent that I was getting headaches again. I decided to call a different branch to swap for yet another car. Luckily the folks at the Little Neck Rd. branch were great to work with. They confirmed how bad my car smelled and put me in a clean, standard rental, which I am pleased with. Overall, I would suggest using caution if you plan to rent from the Enterprise on US-80. It seems that the branch leadership cares more about their metrics and turning cars over than they care about their customers.
