Absolutely five stars! It's not often anymore that a company will take the time to give both a great experience and do right by their customers. So, I want to take a few minutes to genuinely appreciate the staff at the Enterprise car rental in Springfield, VA. We had a surprisingly great experience overall, including working through an unexpected issue. The staff were professional, friendly and great to work with when we picked up our vehicle. There was also a genuine mistake on our rental agreement that no one caught, and not even I saw it until I was getting ready to return the vehicle. I brought it up to the staff, who were very patient, looked into it, and then put me in touch with the branch manager. I was absolutely in a position to be totally screwed over, but instead the branch manager took the time to look into it, speak with me, and at the end of the day - he corrected it and did right by me! Thank you Nathanael (Nate) and team for going above and beyond, and doing right by me! It's easy to give five stars when things are smooth and go as planned. But it's truly a remarkable five stars when hiccups happen, and the customer still walks away going wow- these are some professional hard working folks trying to do their best and doing a great job. I'm in the middle of a rental period caused by a collision that happened far from home. I needed to turn in the car I was renting due to a mechanical problem. Was advised to call Enterprise Roadside Assistance rather than walking in to my local store because they would be able to put the correct request into their computer system company wide. This worked great. When I got to the Springfield Town Center Enterprise here in Springfield they found my update in the system right away and had a replacement lined up. I asked if the insurance would cover the cost of the replacement and Nate was straight with me, saying it was a bit over what the insurance would cover. He advised me to contact the original Enterprise that started the contract (far away) and ask them to allow the replacement to be rented for the original rate. The answer was 'yes.' The entire visit only took about 45 minutes. The staff in both stores were very professional, polite and helpful. Observation while I waited showed me that the Springfield Town Center store is quiet, efficient and clean. Thanks also to Jayden for the great intro to the replacement, a Jeep Wrangler, that is actually turning out to be a fun ride! I might actually be sorry to get my Tacoma back. This place sucks. The only good thing is the people at the counter are nice. Otherwise it's always understaffed which means there is always a long line and it takes forever to get into a car. Most of their cars smell like cigs too. I've been here twice for insurance rentals and each time it's the same, huge line, takes forever to check out and have to send cars back because of smell. read more

My husband and I needed to rent a car on the Thursday before Labor Day weekend because our car was being serviced. We needed to be in Richmond 10 am Friday morning. We were to pick up the car at 4 pm. They close at 5. I had asked the Enterprise rep I talked to making reservations what we would need to use a debit card. She said we only needed at Va drivers license. We got there at 4 and waited in along line. We finally got up to Nathaniel, apparently the manager. He said to use a debit card we would need 2 proofs of residence. He wrote on a card "insurance contract, utility bill, or pay stub". We raced back to our home where we have lived for 33 years and I grabbed the Geico contract and a Verizon bill which is a landline phone and cable bill. At this point it was after 4:30 and had to stand in line again. We finally got back to Nathaniel and laid the contract and Verizon bill on the desk. Without even looking at them he said they won't accept a phone bill. This is not classified as a utility bill. This was totally ridiculous. We explained it was a home phone and cable bill, a cord in the wall, but he said you are not getting a car. I said this didn't make sense and he didn't specify that at all on the card he gave us. I asked to talk to someone else and he refused. He said it's company rules. He was extremely rude and it was humiliating . We were beside ourselves at not getting to Richmond where my husband, an attorney, and needed to be in court. Nathaniel didn't care whatsoever. We left and I had no choice but to try at the last minute to go back there Friday morning at 7:30 and quickly get another car. There was no other place close by. This time we used a credit card, however the employee this time said we actually only needed a Va drivers license for the debit card. When we returned I called the national customer service at Enterprise. I was assured I would hear from a high up manager. Instead I got a call from someone local who knew Nathaniel. He refused to admit anything was done wrong and said each place can make their own rules. And just to add we only needed the car until Sunday evening. They said no returns on Monday because it was a holiday and they charged a weekly rate. We will never return to this business or any Enterprise. read more

I have never been a fan of Enterprise Rent-A-Car due the poorly maintained fleet of vehicles and today confirmed and reassured me that I will never be a future customer. Yesterday, I took my car do the Hyundai dealership for minor repairs. It turned out Hyundai needed to order some supplies to fix my car and therefore needed to keep my car overnight. Because of this dealership's relationship with a local Enterprise, I was sent to this Enterprise to pick-up a vehicle. When I arrived to the Enterprise, I was greeted with a smile. I forgot the gentleman's name, but he was very friendly. He informed me that since I had a Hyundai vehicle, that I would be put into another Hyundai. I asked for another vehicle, but was told the dealership would not pay for the entire rental and that I would have to pay the difference. So after he told me that, I decided to stick with the one Hyundai vehicle that was left in the lot. After walking around the vehicle, we noticed a HUGE key scratch that went from one side of the trunk to the other. I opened the back seat door and noticed numerous stains on the backseat. I asked the Representative if anything could be done about the stains and was told the cloth seats would only be replaced if there were holes in the seats. I was highly upset at this moment, but needed a car. So I took the vehicle and started driving home. Not ten minutes away from Enterprise, I noticed the car was driving funny. So I decided to switch to the tire pressure reading function on the dash board. Each tire had a different reading and not by two or three psi. There was a four-five psi difference between each tire. I turned the car around and took it back to Enterprise. I was lucky to speak to the same representative when I arrived. I expressed my concerns and why I was returning the vehicle. I told him I was waiting on a ride to take me to the airport to pick up a rental car from Hertz. He gave his apologies and that was the end of that. I definitely do not feel like this situation was an example of the Enterprise Way. Again, although I am not a fan Enterprise I know your business strives to maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness in the industry, especially now more than ever. I feel like Enterprise has failed its commitment of standing behind the Complete Clean Pledge. I do not feel Enterprise went above and beyond its cleaning protocols. I am sure if Jack Taylor were here today, he would be highly disappointed with how his fleet of cars are being maintained. I am giving this location two stars because of the friendliness of the Representative. read more

Was heading out of town on vacation and rented a mid-size SUV to fit all our stuff. Since this was my first time renting a car I clearly didn't do my due diligence, and boy did they screw me right the hell over. I had reserved it online, and when I picked up they were pretty busy so the rep just handed me the electronic pad to sign. So easy! (So so dumb on my part) First mistake - no walk around before accepting car. When I got in the car I noticed a huge gross stain on the backseat, but whatever, nobody would be sitting back there. And the car smelled like smoke. But, wejust opened the windows and popped a vent air freshener in it! Off to vacation we went! Upon our return back home, we filled it up, vacuumed it and dropped car off in the evening...(after they were closed) we walked around it, all looked fine, we departed. All was well. Second mistake - didn't drop off during business hours and have actual person inspect car when dropped off. A week or so later, I get an email saying the car was damaged. Say whaaat? Called them and was told there was a scratch on the front passenger side bumper. I was dubious, because If I had hit something, or something hit me I'm certain I would have noticed it. But, I dutifully contacted my insurance company and started a claim assuming it was some dumpy little scratch that I hadn't noticed. Well when I got pictures of what they claim was the damage to the car...I felt scammed and violated. There are extensive scratches to the front right side and front, and what appears to be a dent. There is NO WAY that damage would not have been noticed. I showed the photos to my family who had all seen the car while in my possession and they all confirmed No way would that have been overlooked. It was very obvious, and NOT there when I had it. I don't know what the hell they are playing at. But reading some other reviews and searching the internet it appears this is not unusual for Enterprise. It feels suspiciously like they took what could have been a minor scratch/scratches, and embellished it to fit a "damage criteria" to get someone else to pay for its repair. - search "Enterprise Damage Evaluator" (This information was all but confirmed by my insurance company who told me they have denied claims from Enterprise because the damage wasn't clearly from a collision..like minor scratches aka.."normal wear and tear") Hmmm sorta smells like a scam doesn't it? - I have talked to other individuals who have rented from this Enterprise, and they too mentioned how blasé they are about the walk around when you pick the car up, but that they scrutinize every inch - even under the car - when you return it. (One even said the rep seemed downright disgruntled he couldn't find anything) So, I cannot recommend this Enterprise. But IF you must rent from here. (And really you shouldn't have to, because there's plenty of other rental car companies in the area) When you pick the car up go over EVERY INCH of the car and make the representative note everything inside and out right then and there on the spot before you sign. And take your own photos of the car of any already existing scratches and stains. Return it ONLY during their business hours when you can stand there and eyeball the guy crawling over, under, and inside the car and take pictures AGAIN. The staff working at this location being pleasant is unfortunately the only good thing I can say about this place. I ended up receiving a mysterious damage charge for a grand and some change as well as pictures of the car showing what looked like someone taking a sledgehammer to it. Based off the other posters, it seems this kind of scam is a relatively common practice of this location, and as such I would warn all future customers to stay far away from this place if they don't want to deal with this kind of absurd nonsense. Drop the car off during business hours and make sure they take pictures of the vehicle on the spot - otherwise it seems like there's a chance they might move the vehicle elsewhere and damage it in the process, and then send you pictures from this entirely different location as evidence of damage. Stafford Hyundai works with them - they're close, so it makes sense. I guess I should be happy they had a Hyundai for me to rent. They did NOT clean the vehicle and the only attempt to get rid of the smoke smell was to open the windows when the vehicle was brought around for me. I smelled the smoke immediately, but it was the ONLY Hyundai, so... When I realized I would have the vehicle for more than one day, I called to get one that didn't affect my sinuses... of COURSE they didn't have another Hyundai. And I'm STILL waiting for that promised call to let me know when they got another one in for me to swap with a clean smelling one. Their customer service is horrible. By far the worst experience I have ever had with a rental car. This location caters to the Caliber Collision center in Springfield. We had to drop off a car there from a accident. The first car we were provided was disgusting. It had stains in the carpet, it smelled and there was noticeable hair, dirt, trash from the previous renter. We had to wait for it to be cleaned and sanitized. This is unacceptable. We then turned in the car again for another car which we then returned with the same amount of gas provided 7/8 however the 'employee' at that location marked it as 3/4 so we were charged an additional amount for refueling even though we got gas for the car 1 block from the Caliber location. We called and explained our situation to the manager, Tess, who chose to stand by her employee vs us, the customer. Horrible customer service. Even though convenient I urge you to use another rental company if dropping off your car at Caliber. The employee at this location are incompetent and the managers don't believe in customer service. read more

My husband and I rented a Tahoe for our 1st road trip with our 2 toddlers to Nashville, TN. As soon as we got on the interstate, we were pulled over by the county police. He asked for our IDs and informed us that the car we were in was reported as stolen and the driver was wanted. We told him it was a rental and showed him the rental receipt. After checking our ID, he was confirmed that we weren't the wanted criminals. He asked to us to immediate contact Enterprise to remove this vehicle from the "hot list" because another cop could pull us over and "they may have weapons drawn". Being a black woman, with my black husband and 2 black kids in 2016, that was something I didn't need to hear. I immediately contacted Enterprise and informed them of what happened and the manager's response was "what would you like me to do about it?" After letting him know, not so nicely, what I would like him to do, he became more cooperative and assisted us. We were given the option to exchange the car at the next Enterprise. We drove very slowly to the next store and they were helpful, but the trip had already been ruined. I am giving Enterprise 1 star because there isn't a 0 star. This type of error is nothing less than gross negligence. I feel as though I was bait. We just thank our lucky stars that weren't pulled over by an angry cop. So next time you rent a car, please ask the rep to confirm that the vehicle is not on hot list. read more

The whole staff at enterprise was extremely pleasant and helpful. They answered any questions I had and the process was quick and painless. I was in and out in 15 minutes. The car was clean and had a full tank of gas. When it was time to return the car, they drove me back to the shop where my car was getting repaired. I know that enterprise offers this as a regular service of theirs and I think it is brilliant and so helpful! This was the best experience I've had with renting a vehicle. I have had terrible luck in the past with service and/or lack of communication from other rental companies. By this I mean, I have rented vehicles before with other companies where it took nearly 2 hours to finally leave the location and they'd given my reserved truck to someone else. The whole experience was wonder and I thank the entire staff for changing my views on car rentals. I'll definitely be using enterprise in the future. read more

First problem- the car was given (a rental courtesy of Safford Hyundai while my car is in the shop) was NOT clean. Crumbs everywhere. Floor mats were obviously not cleaned after previous user. Second problem- the customer service! Or maybe it's Enterprise as a whole, but by choice... I would never use this company. I walked in in my military uniform as I had just gotten off a 14 hour shift. When asked for my drivers license, I handed the manager the paper version that I was given when changed my name 2 weeks ago. It is a paper copy but it is a literal print of the actual DL, barcode and all. The manager said he could not use that. Luckily, I had my old drivers license with a previous last name still with me (same DL number). He said the credit card for the deposit MUST match my name on the license. BUT I LEGALLY CHANGED MY NAME SO ALL OF MY CREDIT CARDS ARE IN MY NEW LAST NAME. Being active duty & from Alaska, it takes my DL a little longer to get here than normal. He said he could not rent me the car if I could not provide a CC with the old last name on it. Ended up digging deep in my purse to find and old CC (that I prefer NOT to use hence why the last name wasn't changed yet) with the previous name for the deposit. Many active duty military members have paper licenses while awaiting hard copy or even expired licenses because most states have an active duty clause that keeps it valid. I am lucky I had that old CC or I'm not sure what I would've done. Oh and also- the name sewn to the chest of my uniform (so obviously legal and recognized by the federal government) matched that of the paper DL. Unbelievable. read more

Believe the negative reviews!!!!! This Enterprise location has gone down hill substantially. I felt the customer service from two out of three representatives I dealt with was poor and they made no attempt to honor the full size car I had reserved. If I had known this location did not have a Full Size car, I would have gone to another as a full size car is what I need and desire. They initially offered me an intermediate or compact with no price discount. The car was a Hyundai Elantra which is technically rated as a Compact Car (https://cars.usnews.com/cars-trucks/hyundai/elantra ). I pointed out that it was not a "Full Size" car and the only initial response was "we can't control customers who don't bring back cars on time". After I pushed the issue, they finally offered to charge me for an "intermediate". However, when I went out into the parking lot, I noticed two SUV's and a truck. I brought it to the attention of another representative and was told "another customer reserved those". When I asked about my "Full Size" reservation (what about this customer ?). again I was told that they could not upgrade my full-size, they could only down-grade me. Obviously something has changed as I have gone to this same location for years and was only upgraded if they did not have the car I reserved. Other Enterprise locations also honor to upgrade a customer's car if they do not have in stock what was reserved... some do it out of kindness and to honor one's Enterprise Plus status. As a Gold Enterprise Plus customer who has rented a lot of cars at this location in the past, I feel the overall experience was horrible. No other Enterprise location has ever treated me this way. When I mentioned to one of the representatives that I was very unhappy and was going to post a negative review; his attitude was so be it. I do want to mention that the representative that brought me to my car at least treated me nicely. He tried to de-escalate the situation by saying the other cars all had mechanical issues. I am not sure I believe that given what the other two representatives said.. but he tried. Putting all that aside, a good business should be monitoring their inventory to honor reservations. read more

I was desperate & used this place for all my rentals. Made reservation & quoted $194.41 for a week. Arrived & car was not there BUT I could have another car there for $301.91! I had changed the kind of car I wanted & was promised a Nissan Rogue with NO MENTION of a higher charge! As a little background my brother was terminally ill & given perhaps 2 weeks so it was imperative I get there. It was a 9 hour drive & wanted to get there quickly & safely. Absolutely no help to try to work with me or help me - I even called when I got home with the name of the reservation clerk I spoke with & it was VERY APPARENT as I related the circumstances about my reservation & the rep that the woman on the phone was just singing lala in her head & again NO ATTEMPT TO HELP. Now airline tickets are double & here I am stuck. Stay away, no customer service & definitely NO COMPASSION for emergency circumstances. One star is entirely too high a rating. read more

Do I actually have to leave one star? During our country's most trying times of racial divide and a worldwide pandemic, I would expect more from a company like enterprise, here is my testimonial. On 5/21 I reserved a vehicle online, and was confirmed to pick it up the next day at their Fort Belvoir, VA location. On 5/22 I made a call before leaving home to verify the truck was available, was told that the Ft Belvoir location was closed and I needed to actually drive to Springfield to pick up the truck. Nobody contacted me about this change. I proceeded to call the Springfield location, who confirmed my truck was available. I drove 35 minutes to their location on this rainy Friday morning, and was greeted by 5-6 reps inside the store, chit chatting and relaxing, no other customer in the store. My minor son and I were told to Stop, and go outside to be served. I let them know it was raining, and they said that's how it works now due to Covid, they only service customers outside. Terrible. The young lady attending me took my VA DL and debit card to pay. She told me my address wasn't correct and I would need to provide two proofs of my current residence, and asked if I was carrying my gas bill with me. Ridiculous I thought, as again, nobody let me know of this ahead of time. I was upset. I asked to speak to the manager. The young lady runs back inside and after a couple more minutes of sitting in the rain, she brings Tess Bartholemew (store manager) to address me. Tess argues with me that I need two proofs of residence or a major credit card. She asserted I was told about the documents to bring, and points out in the reservation email, at the very bottom next to the *, it reads a list of acceptable items I can present. It was then that I realized I did in fact possess the documents they required. From the list, I presented Tess, my active and current insurance policy declaration page with my current address, and my Verizon cellular telephone bill. Tess cut me off when showing her my current Verizon bill by saying "oh I know about that, but we still won't accept that". At this point I became frustrated. All this confusion with the emails, and now sitting in the rain for 10 minutes arguing with these folks, and I did provide them the documents they demanded to rent me a truck. Tess went on to say that her manager told her not to accept it, so I then asked that we call that manager and ask why they won't honor the documents they requested of me in the email. Tess let me know her manager was on site and would bring him out. A few more minutes in the rain, and the Area Manager, Keith Tolbert, approaches me. Keith didn't come to see me to discuss anything, he came to kick me out. Keith told me regardless of what the email from enterprise says, they were refusing me a rental unless I went home and found my utility bills or came back with a credit card. Keith smelled of heavy cigar smoke on his clothing, and even my son mentioned his eyes were very yellow. Keith refused to provide me a business card, or his contact info, and stated he did not report to a manager, only to the VP of the company. Keith mocked me when I said I would escalate my complaint, he locked me out of the store and kept repeating "have a nice day". When I became upset, he asked me, "is this is how you raise and parent your child". He laughed and pointed at my son and I sitting in the rain angry. Unbelievable. In the end, these folks discriminated against my son and I because of the way we were dressed, or some other subjective belief they had about us. I've called Enterprise's Corporate Office on 3 different occasions, and as of today 6/3/2020, NOBODY has contacted me back about this, unbelievable. read more

My 2001 Dodge finally collapsed and I had to have some kind of vehicle for my business. I rented from this place 20 years ago, and it's definitely conveniently located close to the metro. I have to say that their service is second to none. I paid for an Intermediate and ended up with an Altima. I think they did this because I will be renting for several weeks, and the fact that I expressed interest in the car that picked me up. That was nice of them to do that. If I could give a review with no stars I would. I had been waiting for hours for Enterprise to show up. They did not. I am renting a car through the dealership as the repairs are taking more than a day to complete. I called the dealership three times to let them know that Enterprise never showed up and they called Enterprise with me on the phone. They were put on hold for over 6 minutes each time and lied to saying that someone would be there in minutes. So here we are after 6pm, I arrive at Enterprise after the dealership sent their own shuttle to pick me up and take me. When I get here Tommy tells me that they are closed. I explain what happened and he tells me that I am lying and he knows for a fact that what I am saying is not true. I explain that I have been waiting all day trying to get everything take care of with my car and what would I get out of lying and not getting a rental that the dealership is paying for, which is my only source of transportation. He says again that I am lying and he called me three times, I said you can look at my call log, there is no call from here. Also, not one voicemail. Where would the voicemail be? He said well I don't know what to tell you! Worst possible service ever!!!!! Go somewhere else!!!! Don't come here!!! read more

Made the reservations the night before for an 11AM pickup. At 10:45 AM the day of pickup I called because no one called me to confirm pickup. I live about 4 blocks away and had to walk to the location because driver never showed. Who wants to walk in the cold! When I got to the location I was told the driver went to the wrong location. Please AVOID this place. They are unprofessional. They were suppose to come pick me up at 1pm. At 1:15 I called them, and they said their driver just left. Then at 1:30 they called to tell me their driver was on his way but couldn't find my address. They had the wrong spelling. Their mistake. Then at 1:50 I called and they said their driver left 10 minutes ago. So many holes in their story and a bunch of lies. Enterprise at Lonsdale, you guys suck. read more

Nice people and very accomadating. Sometimes cars can be unclean. Once we rented and tores were bad on thencar as well. I'd guve them a solid B. They do a great job hiring courteous employeees. read more
