I've rented from this Enterprise location for years and have never had an experience like this. After returning my rental, I received a separate bill for excise and sales tax, which has never happened to me in the past. I do not appreciate hidden or post-transaction fees. Taxes should be calculated and collected at the time of the rental, not billed later. This reflects poor business and tax management, and it's not acceptable for a company of this size. Additionally, the office consistently smells like sewer, and it genuinely makes me feel sick every time I have to go inside. That alone is reason enough to avoid this location. To make matters worse, customer service appears to be outsourced, and getting someone to answer or resolve issues is extremely difficult--if anyone responds at all. Overall, this was a very disappointing experience. I rented a vehicle from 10/25/23-10/30/23. Usually, I have good experiences here. Unfortunately, my most recent experience has ruined my Enterprise-Valpo relationship. I rented a car while I was finally going to see my daughter for the first time in over a year (military family). She is 23 years old and I wanted to add her as a driver; however, per policy I would have to wait until she was physically present to make her an additional driver (not a problem). I did all of the driving for the first two days and then we went to Enterprise to add her as an additional driver for 10/27/23-10-30/23. Pursuant to Enterprises clear policy regarding drivers under 25 years old I expected to pay $25.00 per day for the days that she was an additional driver. Enterprise emails your receipt so I paid the bill and when I reviewed my receipt I found a billing error. I triple checked Enterprise policies for a 23 year old driver. The policies are clear and I thought a simple phone call would resolve the $125.00 that I was overcharged. It is now 11/16/23 and I have spoken to Delaney twice, Kyle once, emailed Enterprise and no return calls, emails or resolution from Enterprise company. I am a regular customer and simply wanted the clear contract rules enforced. See attached policies directly from Enterprise Rent-Car website. Enterprise has breached the contract and refuses to return my calls. I should also mention that each person I have spoken with are interpreting the Enterprise contract differently. Contracts are specific for one reason only, to protect the company by being clear and concise in their wording thus avoiding a vague area of "interpretation of contract". This contract was breached by Enterprise. I first thought it was a simple mistake. Now I realize that it is a specific indifference to the wrong doing on Enterprise's behalf. I can't help but wonder if this has anything to do with my Permanent Disability status, as the company is aware that I have limited financial resources. I paid my bill at the time of service on the "good faith" that Enterprise would charge me correctly according to all contract policies. I now am behind on bills and having to put off grocery trips, and medication ordering because I budgeted for this specific expense due to living on a fixed income. I have now been under extreme stress secondary to my financial status pursuant to Enterprises breach of contract and failure to communicate. My disabling illnesses are exacerbated by stress. All of this aside, when I turned in the rental car Kyle asked if there was anything Enterprise could improve upon. I told him that I have had positive experiences with the company and staff members and while the car was not appropriately cleaned inside or outside I had taken it upon myself to clean and sanitize the inside of the car. Kyle asked if he could compensate me for that and I said it was not necessary. Again, I am a regular customer and the relationship with Enterprise was more important to me and I told him this and that it was not necessary to compensate me but perhaps he could retrain the staff members regarding this matter and he agreed that he would do that. Please be cautious if you have an additional driver. Enterprise is violating their own contractual terms and agreements as you can read below. Not only was I charged for all rental days when my daughter wasn't even in the state of IN. I was charged both the $15.00/day fee and an additional $25.00/day for under age drivers.The contract clearly states that you are subject to a $15.00/day additional driver charge (after a driver is added) UNLESS there is another contractual obligation. My daughter is in this category and I should have been charged $25.00/day on the days that she was added as an additional driver. Note that the contract does not state that there is a $15.00/day charge AND an additional $25.00 if the additional driver is under the age of 25. Enterprise policies clearly state that she had to be present with me to be added as a driver and that the "UNLESS" policy overrides the initial terms. Rental date 10/25/23 Rental time 3:21pm Rental Agreement 2***SW I posted this on Yelp and got a "generic" response from Chris R., as you will see below within minutes...Trust me, Enterprise Valpo knows all about this and can confirm this issue. If you desire to resolve this contact Kyle or Delaney at the Valpo location Chris R. What a joke, I have done more than my fair share to resolve this. Now that we are on a public forum you pretend to care and put the issue back into my hands. Normally don't have any issues at this location as I'm a frequent renter. Nice people and accommodating. Today I arrived to pick up my car - which had been reserved a few days in advance- and was told "Sorry, we are out of cars." They had no idea when they would have any cars available. It would have been nice to know in advance. They were actually calling me to inform me of the situation as I was being dropped off. Thanks for the heads up! The woman in charge - as well as another employee - blamed the situation on their Area Manager as they were told cars were coming but never arrived. Whatever. My point is they KNEW there was a strong possibility of my vehicle not being available yet they CHOSE not to give me a heads up phone call. Someone really dropped the ball here and it was obvious that Enterprise made a conscious decision NOT to respect my time (as well as many others). Lesson learned. I guess it is the customer's responsibility to call this location in advance to make sure they can get a car on pick up day. What a disaster! read more

I travel often for business by small plane and sometimes inclimate weather gets in the way of safe travel. Unfortunately when flying into Porter County Airport I experienced some bad weather which put me in the middle of nowhere while I waited for the weather to clear. Needless to say I wasn't going to make my reservation. Not only was the agent that I spoke to very understanding, he was gracious enough to meet me at the airport after store hours to deliver the vehicle. This branch went above and beyond and saved me what would have been a TON of time and money in Uber and cab bills and made my weekend travels a complete success. ENTERPRISE: This review pertains to 2 branches of Enterprise, as I had to deal with both just to get my family home. Hwy 31 Greenwood, IN Valparaiso, IN On a trip home from FL back to Northern Indiana we hit a large deer in Southern Indiana on 65. The car was in bad shape as we much later found out it had over $10,000 in damages & would be totaled. It was 3:40 in the morning. Alone with 2 of my kids, the police kindly dropped us off at the nearest town where we grabbed a motel and got a couple hours of sleep. Once awake I called the only open rental car place in the area (it was Sunday). I was 9.6 miles away from Enterprise. I asked them to pick me up as they promise, so I could rent a car to get home. They refused. I begged. I even offered to pay them their gas & wages to come get me. They refused. We were stuck! With no running taxis in the area, I had to call a service in Indianapolis to drive down to this small town to pick me up & drive me the 9.6 miles to Enterprise. I paid through the nose for that. Thanks Enterprise! Once there I asked for an SUV, as I had a Ford Flex full of vacation gear at a nearby tow yard that I had to unload into another vehicle to get it all back home too. They said no problem....credit card please? I handed them my bank card which doubles as a credit card. Nope! They wouldn't take that. They wanted a credit card. I explained that MasterCard guarantees that card since their name is backing it. No they refused. I said, "So you are refusing cash straight out of my bank?" We don't use credit cards as we are believers in "if it ain't there you can't buy it." So then they tell me I can get a lesser car off my bank card. What? Oh this Japanese POS. I said "You want me to load everything I have stuffed in a Flex into a Kia Sport?" Yep! On top of all this I was told I had to return the car to this specific lot. But I live at the top of Indiana. They wanted me to drive the car & another car down on our own dime, drop it off, & then drive all the way back. No, I won't do that. That's ludicrous! In that case we will charge you a one way fee. For crying out loud. This is the stick-it-to-you rental service. So I agreed because I was stranded by this time & as they also knew I had no choice. I went to the tow yard and tetrised everything from the Flex to the Kia. I was ticked. The next day I went to return the Kia to the Enterprise in Valparaiso, Indiana. I was charged $180 for 1 day of driving a death machine barely big enough to haul a family, plus the cost of insurance. I was charged that one way charge too. I asked the guy at the desk, "How do you plan to get the car back to that lot?" "Oh we'll work that out for you," he claimed (as if he was doing us a huge favor-don't forget I was charged for this). I said, "No, you tell me the truth. The truth is you'll rent it out to someone else for a ridiculous rate, charge them the one way rate, & screw us both. Don't treat me like I'm stupid. You're operation is a scam." He had no response to that. Kind of hard to respond to someone calling you on your own BS. The car smelled of stale smoke, which they claim no smoking in cars. I tried to argue with the punk at the desk about the smell of the car, their lies that are blatantly advertised throughout their establishment, and the horrible service I received. He proceeded to tell me that each Enterprise is individually owned & has their own rules, so not his problem. Then when I told him they needed more American vehicles he asked what I drove I said American cars. He proceeded to argue with me about the manufactures of America & how nothing is truly made here & how foreign cars are more American. He obviously has not done his research, but that's not the point. You work at Enterprise, you don't get to tell me what's wrong with my America you pinhead. You have a job. You failed! On our way home from picking up a rental car from a competitor, my husband called the Valparaiso Enterprise branch & asked to rent out the Kia Spirt he had seen there earlier in the day. "Sorry, it's already been rented." One day turn around on a one way rental car scam. That car we rented elsewhere was for a month.....their loss. BTW we are a hard working family that lives off one of those American manufacturing jobs. Our money and how we spend it is priority. If there is an option of "no star", I will definitely give it no star! Never ever go to this office to rent a car again. Compared to Hertz, Enterprise gave me 20 dollars higher price per day to rend a compact car! and the compact is very very very small! When they showed me the compact car, I found it was toooooo small!!! A small car with only two doors. So the staff asked me if I wanted to upgrade. I was so surprised, because usually I got four doors compact car from Hertz! Thus, I upgraded. After that, the staff did not know how to count rental days! She cannot count the days and told me they would charged me 100 dollars for upgrade! because she counted that I will rent 5 days and every day for upgrade is 20 dollars! But the truth is I was going to rent from Thursday noon to Monday noon. They count 24 hours as a day, so it should be 4 days! If her maths is not good, she should at least know how the count the days for renting a car! This is her job. Finally, I returned my car because their bad customer service! I would recommend them to anyone who needs to rent a car. The employees are super helpful, answer all your questions, friendly, and they don't want to rush you besides helping you get on the road. What I like best about Enterprise is their easy to use website to reserve a car and that you can change the reservation at any time. Even an hour before your reservation, if you need to push it back there is no fee in changing the time. One day that I was going to rent a car it was raining and I didn't want to walk there in the rain. Even though I did not schedule a pickup the day before (you must schedule a ride at least the day before) they were kind enough to come pick me up. Could not get much better worse. Tried to rent a car 2 weeks ago and was hung up when I told them I wanted the car I was promised and not a nission centra. But wait. My insurance is paying for my rental and tell me to go their today to pick up my vehicle from the valporaiso location. I was already not excited but figured I would give them the benefit of the doubt but no.. jasmine procedures to tell me my reservation isn't through them, which my insurance agent swears it is and on top of that I can pay them out of pocket for the car which isn't happening. I have written a couple of reviews of Enterprise in Valparaiso, IN. Funny, they don't seem to make it to be posted. Enterprise in Valpo has always been above expectations. I have been renting from them for 4 years now and have only had one less than great experience. That experience was because my husband is so tall. Anyway, I reserved a minivan for a trip with my husband and two other couples for the holiday weekend. Due to the weather, no minivans had arrived from Chicago by pick up time. I was up-graded to a Yukon, which worked well. Yukons do not have great storage space, but it was enough for us. Kudos to the Valpo Enterprise, again for making it a great weekend. If I could give them more stars I would. I have gone to this company multiple times now. This is not a one-off review. I have watched multiple interactions and they always do everything that they can do to ensure that customers are satisfied. I've watched them go out of their way even when the customer was wrong just to rectify a situation that literally did not exist. I was just there the other day and as always Ruben took care of me. I like the fact that he has the ability to make conversation and get his job done quickly. ALWAYS. He never gets overwhelmed. No matter how many people are there. He is polite and fast. He jokes around and talk to you while checking you in and out. He just has a great personality. I hope that he will move up the ladder someday. And then there is Mike. He is an excellent manager. I mostly deal with him when I come in. Most managers hide in the back At places like this but not him. He has an amazing amount of customer service skill and is incredible at conflict resolution. I have never seen anyone walk away from this man angry. I have rented 7 (ish... don't judge me) vehicles within the last year and every time that I see the people that work in this store interact with customers it is always a great thing. Sadly, judging by some of these reviews you can't please everyone.. But, I will say this you absolutely will not get the type of service anywhere else. Last year I made the mistake of going to Hertz because I am a member of Triple A. They didn't have any vehicles available and I got nowhere near the caliber of service. Do NOT rent a car from the 557 S Washington St. Valparaiso, Indiana Make sure you document every scratch, dent, crack in the paint, and any imperfection in the car no matter what they say or how nice they appear. Video tape and document EVERYTHING. They are fast to force a signature after a 30 second walk around the car to check for damages knowing the average person is not going to look as carefully as they should and document everything. They play as if everything is just normal wear and tear and you have nothing to worry about. When you return with the vehicle It will be a completely different experience if they where able to gain your trust and deceitfully or naively obtain your signature without actually documenting anything on the vehicle prior. At this time you are told you are now responsible for whatever damages they search out and find. And believe me they will find something. They have special gages and tools to search with. Once they find that something and they have your signature don't expect to get any help with the staff or assistant manager all they want is your money it is no longer a negotiation. It's about the money and how much they can charge you and your insurance. Cameras won't work, prior car history is unavailable, etc... Overall just an awful and expensive experience with this place. Avoid dealing with this place if at all possible. And if you can't don't fall victim to their shady tactics. I've been using this branch of Enterprise for years and will continue to in the future! I always receive prompt and friendly service, and I've never had any issues with receiving a different car than what I expected. For my most recent experience, I needed a standard sized SUV to move some of my belongings from my university back home. Since the vehicle came with unlimited miles and I can just fold down the seats, it was much cheaper than renting a cargo van or truck from a moving company. The staff made sure I was satisfied with everything and didn't pressure me into any add-ons. They asked about my move and what I majored in, what degree I got, etc. Even if it's not out of genuine interest, the conversation didn't seem forced which I appreciate. When I returned it, they quickly looked everything over and I was on my way. Overall, a great experience. I think Enterprise is more expensive than other places, but given the subpar experiences I hear from others about other companies, I am happy to pay extra to know that they aren't going to try to pull a fast one on me. read more

I feel bad about my previous review. Yelp doesn't recommend reviews that are not that pleasant. I don't usually give top notch reviews to businesses that don't deserve them but I was ill and coerced when I wrote mine about Enterprise in Valparaiso, IN. I am disabled and was treated like a piece of trash by this company. They didn't care about my life or the lives of those I love.The man we dealt with said he was the owner or manager, I can't recall but when I just now read the other reviews I realized that the guy pushed me for a good review promise in exchange for a partial refund. I listed the problems below but the main thing is that they gave us a vehicle that was recalled then lied to me about it having been repaired when we returned the vehicle and I pointed out it needed taken off their inventory until it was repaired! They gave us a Jeep Cherokee which I found out- while on the road- that it had been recalled for slipping out of neutral. This brand of car killed one of the Star Wars stars. Anton Yelchin. R.I.P. Anton. Before we knew the car was recalled, my husband drove our grand daughter in that car! We parked it on a hill as well. It could have killed us or worse, my family! The guy said, "What can I do to make you happy?" when we returned the Jeep. I said, "I don't know!" (What I should have said was, take this car off the road and get it fixed before you rent it again.) He said, "Give me a good review and you get $50 off. I gotta go deal with something so lets be done with this!" In my condition, poor health and worn from the trek, I was tempted into be what I am not, so I am adding the correct story about my rental. It was a very bad experience and although I didn't lie in my review, I wasn't forthcoming. Here is what happened. 1. We reserved online for an early pickup of 7 AM. 2. Upon arriving at the Valparaiso Branch we found out that they had overbooked by 13 customers so there was no vehicle for us as expected with a reservation made a month earlier. I was told that over booking was common due to the no shows and that we were at the top of the call list. 3. At about 10 AM they called and said they had a car, it had just arrived. Actually, the car was picked up by an employee and driven from Gary to Valparaiso. We were given the keys by a pleasant lady but unfortunately we didn't go through the details of how to use it. 4. We had been told that our name was at the top of the list but upon arrival to pick up the Jeep, there were two customers in the lot, leaving with rentals. I smelled a fish so to speak. 5.We got the vehicle with just a accusatory cleaning and it was short $15 worth of gas. 6. I am disabled, using a cane and this was disclosed when we originally rented the vehicle. The only reason we accepted the vehicle was because we needed to get on the road due to not being able to drive in the dark. I had a horrible time getting in and out of that beast. The overworking of my leg caused my healing to be extended. 7. While traveling, and this we accept as our own fault because we were responsible for our own actions, we got pulled over for not having the driving lights on. This vehicle was jam packed with new technology. Although I am fairly up to date for an old lady, my husband was driving and had no way to his knowledge that the lights weren't on. Lucky for us the officer understood out plight. He might have saved out lives because it was dark just moments later. 8. We had to pull over right after the first officer helped us turn the driving lights on because the highly technical vehicle was sensitive in its environment controls. The windows fogged to the point of dripping within moments of accidentally adjusting them while trying to turn the driving lights on. This vehicle was WAYYYY out of our wheelhouse! Again, I feel responsible and yet, it would have been nice of the owner/manager to offer some important points as to how to control the beast. BTW, I found the manual deep inside the glove box. I had looked for it after the first officer pulled us over but found out later that the glove box is nearly shoulder deep. It had the original plastic wrap on it, never opened. 9. This vehicle, because of its size, cost us an additional $90 for gas. 10. We were not notified that the vehicle had been recalled while we were on our trip! 11. The vehicles technology was of no use for us because we thought it had GPS and again, I consider this our fault, apparently we needed an account for GPS so not a hairs worth of the technology was of any use to us. The same for the radio. Believe me, when we had to stop and ask for directions to our hotel because I didn't print them due to thinking the vehicle had GPS. 12. We returned to Valparaiso, the office was about to close. My husband being the man he is, dropped the Jeep off and said nothing. I did. read more

I wish i could give zero, or negative stars. My wife and I reserved a vechile to drive on our vacation. We chose a rental, due to wanting to keep the miles off of our personal vechiles. We set the reservation, over a month in advance, for a Sunday(May 27th),pick up at noon. We arrived at 11:15am, and the office doors were locked. The hours on the door clearly state business hours of 10am-1pm. A note was posted on the door that this location will be closed Monday due to memorial day. We sat in the parking lot for awhile. I thought maybe the employee was getting fuel in a vechile or was out to lunch. So my wife and I drove around Valpo, to kill some time. We arrived back at enterprise at 11:50am, and continued to wait til around 12:20ish. This whole time my wife is calling the office phone, and i goes straight to voicemail/answering service. She starts to get upset and frustrated, so she calls the 1-800 number. The customer service rep told us that they were closed today(Sunday), and Monday due to the holiday. She proceeded to tell us that they were not open Sundays, but changed her tune when we told her we were looking at the front door that clearly states it. And that they are usually open Sundays, but just not this one and that there was nothing she could/would do, and that they should have called us to pick up a day eariler. We stated we needed the vechile for our vacation,and would like her to call the owner/operator of the Valparaiso location. She said she couldn't because she does not have the number. Seriously?! We have no rental for our vacation. No one has called us, and customer service refuses to help. Why even reserve a vechile if you won't be there to give it to me, or even have the common courtesy to call me a day in advanced. I will never rent a car from the Valparaiso office again. I was in a wreck that damaged my large SUV that was the other parties fault. First, they placed me in a crossover and said that the cost would be covered. Turns out that size wasn't covered, the insurance company refused to cover anything larger than a compact vehicle, completely unsuitable for my two kids and stroller. So, Enterprise charged me for the difference in size without my approval, despite them telling me otherwise. Second, they charged my credit card for gas that I didn't use and refused to refund it. I spoke with Tristen, who was the prior office manager who was subsequently promoted to district manager. We argued over the costs and it got heated. He used foul language towards me and became very mouthy. I became mouthy with him when I tried to get a straight answer regarding any refunds. He stated that he would put down it down that I am never to rent from Enterprise again due to my hostility. I told him that he was being hostile too, he said that he is the district manager and he can do whatever he wants and told me that there is nobody above him that I can go to, then hung up on me. I called back several times before I was able to get ahold of him, simply to get a yes or no answer regarding my refund. He threatened to call the police on me if I called again. read more

I love this location!!!! I rent cars quite often due to traveling with my kids and occasionally one of my other vehicles winds up in the shop. The staff is always superbly friendly and I'm in and out in less than 30 minutes. I've never had a problem with one of their vehicles or the rental process. Kudos to Enterprise Valpo!! read more

Pulling into the place to see the local police sitting in the lot to quickly understand why. Terrible customer service, Adrian the branch manager? went out of his way to look for problems with my turn in car, calling one of the other employees outside multiple times without my wife or me. Finally I went out and he started blaming damage that wasn't real on us. So I called the branch I got it from to get it straightened out. He discriminates against disabled veterans and left me with a migraine. Little did he know we walked around the car be leaving Plymouth where we got it and video the entire car. Always take pictures of fuel and car, you never know when they will discriminate against you!! read more

The staff at this Enterprise location are awesome. They are professional, friendly and very accomdating. I travel 2-3 weeks a month for business and this location by far is the easiest to work with. read more
