I know that but she should be able to identify urgent. Period. She proceeded to tell me she would get me in, in 2 weeks and it would be for a hearing test only. God I am glad I reached out to other practices and found caring staff that knew my situation was dire. I called another place THe Greater Oc spoke to a lady that took my info called me back an hour later on a Friday night and got me in on Monday. Exam, hearing test and treatment was started all same day! What a great experience and a terrible one with this office. Unacceptable. Degrading. Cruel.

Therefore, very difficult to get a receipt to get reimbursement via HSA or HRA. This is a very simple thing to get payment set up online.

Just now they directed me to call them back if I get a new plan that they accept, as if I would ever trust them again to not cancel any other plan mid year. Greedy doctors and poor communication (they claimed the contract was renegotiated a year ago but they never notified me so I could have looked for a new plan.) I went in for a consult about an elective procedure - not the procedure itself, just a meeting to discuss potential side effects. The entire visit took about 10 minutes, but I'll be generous and say it was 15 minutes. Dr. Verma did a laryngoscopy that took less than 2 minutes and then explained the process for the procedure. I learned nothing new about the procedure that I hadn't already read on Reddit. But fine, this initial consult is required for the procedure. Figured it wouldn't be that expensive to just ask a doctor if Reddit was right (BTW he confirmed Reddit was, in fact, a good resource to learn about this procedure). When I got the bill for this "consult" I figured there had to be a mistake. They had billed the office visit as a code 99205 at $974.00. That was **in addition** to the laryngoscopy code 030575 at $592.00. That's a cool $1,566.00 all-in. Dude's billing $6,264 per hour? That's Beyonce money. If you look up the description for a code 99205 "provider visit", you'll find it's typically 60 minutes with a comprehensive history, comprehensive exam with high complexity decision-making and an extensive amount and/or complexity of data to be reviewed. This exam was none of those things. That's called insurance upcoding, my friends. This was a code 99202 (99203 if I'm being generous). My insurance adjusted his $1,566.00 to $1,035.79 and then billed me $530.21. I spent about 2 months trying to get Dr. Verma's office to bring the billing code down. Always difficult to reach, always referring me to the billing department at UCI Health (who couldn't do anything for me), but I finally got the office to lower the provider visit code. These MF'ers lowered the 99205 at $974.00 to a 99204 at $739.00 and said that was the lowest Dr. Verma was willing to go, like he was doing me some big favor now. And then, of course, somehow my insurance increased what I was responsible for. I finally had to say F it and just pay the bill. So all said and done my 15-minute exam to rehash what I read on Reddit cost me $556.10 and my insurance paid him another $497.38. Complete f'ing scam. I ultimately decided against doing the procedure before I got this first bill, but man I'm glad I didn't go through with it because if this is what he's charging for a short office visit, I'd probably have to file for bankruptcy after doing the procedure. I would have been better off setting fire to $556.10 cash than doing this little office exam. Then I at least would have gotten some warmth from the flames.

Despite that, I sat in the lobby until 11:10am--already 40 minutes past the time they told me to be there. After that, I was shuffled around, had vitals taken, then left waiting again for another room because the PA, Min Chung, "prefers a different room." I made it very clear to the staff that I had to leave by 12:15. That was completely ignored. I then sat in that room for another 30 minutes. An MA finally came in to say the PA had just finished with the patient before me. At that point, I had already been there for over an hour and a half. I gave them 5 more minutes out of courtesy--no one came--so I left. Because of their complete lack of time management and respect, I missed my next appointment. To make matters worse, when I asked the front desk to validate my parking after wasting nearly two hours there, they refused. I even saw PA Min Chung briefly while being moved rooms, and there was zero sense of urgency whatsoever. Completely unacceptable. Disorganized, disrespectful, and a total waste of time. The appointment was scheduled specifically for a pulmonology second opinion regarding a chest X-ray that had been ordered and reviewed previously by my mother's oncologist. We were instructed to bring the chest X-ray imaging to the appointment. My mother and I spent over two hours at UCI in Orange obtaining the imaging and transferring it to a CD. We arrived at the appointment with the CD provided in physical form. During the appointment, Dr. Hwe stated that he was having difficulty downloading the X-ray images and that there were too many files attached, adding that reviewing the imaging would not be an efficient use of his time. Rather than reviewing the imaging as the purpose of the visit required, the clinician stated that he reviewed or relied on the existing notes/report from the physician who interpreted the X-ray initially and indicated agreement with that interpretation. Additionally, although I was informed that all relevant records for the visit would be obtained so that Dr. Hwe could review them, at the time of the appointment no records were available for the physician to review. As a result, this visit did not provide the service for which the appointment was scheduled--namely, a documented pulmonology review of the actual chest X-ray imaging. The outcome of the appointment appears to have been limited to agreement with the prior report, without meaningful review of the images and without additional testing or evaluation of new findings. In addition, I attempted to contact your office by phone on July 29, 2026 to request assistance regarding this matter. Unfortunately, my calls did not connect me with a staff member and were limited to an automated system, leaving me unable to obtain timely support. Very Disappointing.
