All around great service. I called one minute before they closed on Thursday and was still assisted. I explained that while I am no expert, there being a steady drip of water coming from my AC onto the basement floor seemed to be a problem. The woman helping me offered up that perhaps I should check my filters, but we could go ahead and schedule an appointment anyway, which could be cancelled if that was all it was. It's summer and I expected them to be backed up with calls. I was given the option to have a visit the following Wednesday, or someone could come by on Saturday morning first thing, though it would be at the emergency rate. I went with the latter. Ivan showed up Saturday morning, introduced himself and had the clog issue figured out within minutes. He explained what he was going to do to take care of it, and got to work. When done, he let me know other issues needed to be addressed, but it would be less costly if I scheduled those outside of this visit and also weren't necessary to fix the issue I had originally called about. He explained point by point what else they would do if I decided to set up the additional appointment, how long it would take, and the price. I paid my bill with Ivan, and was sent an electronic receipt with the plan. Ivan departed and the leak was fixed. All is well. Fantastic service. read more

Environmental Systems Associates replaced my furnace, air conditioner, and water heater years ago. I was happy with the work and equipment, and I thought the price was fair for quality work. A friend is convinced that I overpaid, but ESA was comparable to other quotes I was given. Recently, I smelled gas by my water heater - I had to be very close to smell it. Some people online say this is common, but I didn't want to take the risk, so I had ESA come out to check. They told me it was an issue, replaced the "bad" part they identified, and charged me $945. The new part also smelled like gas. I reached out to the manufacturer, Bradford White, and found that this is normal. I reached out to ESA to discuss their mistaken diagnosis and unnecessary replacement.. I called three times and sent three emails, but the only response I got was "someone will call this afternoon." Nobody called that afternoon or any other. In the end I had to issue a chargeback through my credit card company. I do not plan to work with ESA in the future. Back in May ESA had a technician come out to my home to inspect the vents/ducts in the attic since I was getting no airflow through about three of the vents in my home. I was charged a $143 diagnostic fee for the technician to "inspect" and take pictures. I was informed that their "duct guy" didn't start taking appointments until the fall. September came and went. It's now December, I've followed up multiple times and left voicemails for this "duct guy" and they all went unanswered. I have a contract with this company that I'm considering not renewing since I've paid a diagnostic fee for no real work to take place. It's absolutely absurd that I have to chase down someone to remedy this issue especially since I've already paid the diagnostic fee. Most experiences have been good with this company but if you're having ventilation issues and need your ductwork looked at, DON'T COUNT ON THEM!!!!!! read more

ESA is our go to HVAC company. They've actually been working on the house long before we got here (stickers going back 17 years). Technicians that do the services are always polite, call when they are on the way, and quick. A few have gone WAY above and beyond, answering questions - showing me how to do some basic maintenance etc. I've never felt pressured with upsales, and they kept an old system running for a while. We recently replaced our whole system, and because of the closet layout, had to do the water tank in as well. I wasn't notified when they were coming due to a miscommunication, but in the end it worked out. The guys worked late (problem with measurements taken by the sales team) but stayed on and got it done. The lead stayed even later to go over the system, changes made to how things are set up, and whatever questions I had. Very professional. The only reason I can't go out for 5 stars here is the offering of systems. They are exclusively carrier, which have moved to a proprietary thermostat - so you'll get really limited features with a Nest or Ecobee. If you're in my situation and need a new hot water heater at the same time because of space constraints, they will nicely put one in (and even installed a mixing valve to increase real world capacity since no one makes the old size we had anymore), but again, you don't really get a choice of brands of features - and there are some awesome features on the market like built in leak detection, and smart phone controlled temperatures, so it's too bad to miss out. The brand (Bradford White) is reliable however. read more

Environmental Systems Associates (ESA) - Buyer Beware We purchased 2 Carrier furnaces, 2 Carrier air conditioning units, a split HVAC system and a hot water heater approximately 4 years ago from ESA. All came with warranties from the manufacturer for parts and a one-year warranty on labor. We have had trouble with all but one of these units since their delivery and installation by ESA. * Within a year of install, the split HVAC system stopped cooling. We paid the $149 diagnostic fee to ESA only to learn that the unit was not installed correctly. ESA came out and repaired it the next day. No charge. * The hot water heater was deteriorating at a rapid pace. I contacted ESA. Again, ESA wanted a $149 diagnostic fee. I declined and then contacted the manufacturer and sent photos. They said the Hot Water heater was not installed properly and the warranty was void. We purchased a replacement hot water heater for one that ESA installed that was less than 4 years old. * This past February the Carrier furnace failed. ESA charged us a $149 diagnostic fee. They said a part was needed that was to be provided under warranty from Carrier. The lead time for the part to be provided according to ESA was approximately 12 weeks. They were unable to get Carrier to expedite the part for us. Eventually they asked me to contact Carrier. I spoke with 5 different people at Carrier in their various forms of "customer service". I eventually came to learn that when the warranty paperwork was submitted by ESA, they failed to place a priority on the request (1-5 Urgent to Not Urgent). After further discussions with Carrier, the part was provided in May to ESA and the furnace was repaired. Thank goodness it was spring. * This past June, our Carrier Air Conditioning motor failed during a major heat wave in our area. ESA charged us a $149 diagnostic fee for their one technician to visit. Once again, Carrier could not provide the part to us for 6 weeks. ESA Service remembered our history with the furnace and offered us a used motor that they located in their parts warehouse as a temporary solution until we could get the new part from Carrier delivered and installed. We understood that we would have to pay for installation two times. And we agreed. The Technician came out in June and installed that motor the first time for $217. It took about 45 minutes. On July 11 ESA had the new motor and came to install it. They showed up with two Technicians this time. They removed the used motor and installed the new part. The installation also took about 45 minutes. This time the charge was $379. When I asked the Technicians why the price varied from the first install of the exact same part, they said that was just their rate. I contacted their office and spoke with (Name withheld) and she said the reason the price changed was because: o We had to pay for her time filling out the paperwork to get the warranty motor/part; o We had to pay for the time that her boss, the service manager, forged around their warehouse to find the used motor/part; o We had to pay for their time to drive the broken part back up to their Hanover distributor for return to Carrier. Nowhere in our purchase contract for these Carrier units did it say that we were responsible for paying their back-office staff to do their jobs. Nor did the purchase contract state that when warranty parts are provided the buyer is responsible for the courier picking up the replacement part. The "courtesy" offer from the service manager for use of the used motor was disingenuous at best. He knew we were in a devastating heat wave and needed the part. It's akin to victims of a hurricane being charged double for drinking water from the local grocer when none was locally available. Shame on Environmental Systems Associates. They sold us faulty products. Then up charged us during the warranty process to get failed parts replaced. This lack of transparency violates our trust. We will never use their services again. We recommend that you not use them either. read more

On May 20th our A/C went out. EAS came the following week to say a new compressor was needed and they'd be back on June 15th with it. The long and short of it is the A/C was not repaired until June 23rd and refurbished parts were used. Had I not overheard the technician, I would not know because they did not tell us. instead there were multiple stories of parts be overnighted that never came. I've read reviews both good and bad. I left a lengthy review through google but what is most disturbing is that there seems to be a pattern. When things go wrong EAS is not forthcoming, they become unresponsive and blame their vendors. They don't even clean up their mess when they come to your home. Someone really should pursue holding this company accountable. Their vendors like Trane and Carrier should also have the opportunity to comment. I'm curious as to what their side of the story may be. I gave only 1 star because no stars was not an option! read more

On the coldest day of the year (13 degrees), a Sunday and New Years Eve we received an ignition lockout error message on our main furnace thermostat (and an e-mail) at 7am. The furnace was installed about 20 months previously and was still under full warranty. We figured we would be lucky to reach anyone or get service that day. I called right away and we got an emergency operator and described our problem. Within 15 minutes we received a call from a technician who was able to walk us through a system restart, although had that not worked he said they would send someone out immediately. This is absolutely first-rate service. No one else could be more responsive, and I have no doubt most would be less responsive. read more

ESA installed my new upstairs heat pump in 2015. When I called them for an issue with my blower motor, (2021) I could not get an appointment until 17 days, so I called a different company. That company's tech told me that a circuit card was the issue, was not under warranty, and would be $1,200 to replace. This should have been under warranty, for 10 years. I called ESA and they told me that "it was Carrier's fault in the registration"...like they assumed it was not them...they must be perfect. They told me they could get it registered but it might take 3-4 weeks to show up as covered under warranty. Steve, their service manager, told me he would call me with a trouble ticket number from Carrier so I could reference that. That was on a Wednesday. I called Carrier myself on that Friday, and had the part registered the following Monday. I called Steve on that Monday and got voice mail. I asked about the trouble ticket number and how come it was three business days and I still did not get the promised ticket number. Two business days goes by and Steve finally returns my call with that trouble ticket number....quite a bit late. During the whole process, it seemed that Steve did not care that I did not have heat. He was very unapologetic and treated me poorly. Take your business elsewhere, to a company that cares. read more

I guess that there is always two sides to any story. It's funny how everything positive that I said about ESA he agreed with but calls the rest of my review lies. First Hendricks ignores the fact that there was no communication from anyone from ESA regarding the status of the repair. I don't see how periodic updates could hurt. Hendricks indicates that the ball was set into motion well before our blow up. Would it have bee too much trouble for them to let me know? It was stifling in our house and any news would have been welcomed. When I did talk to Steven, the next morning, his cavalier attitude towards my problem did escalate the discourse and I did mention the fact that his attitude was BS. As I further stated before I could say anything else, he hung up the phone. For a manger to hide behind a time clock is unconscionable to me and should be to Hendricks as well. This isn't how ESA built their reputation especially with me. We trusted ESA with our service/maintenance contract. His being saddened and disappointed with my behavior is devoid of any compassion for our situation. You treat people in the manner that you are treated. Steven treated me with a casual disregard for my problem. I'm sure that he immediately ran into Hendricks's office to tell him that was an irate customer calling. As far as ESA trying to call me, I have no VM's indicating that this is or was the case. Look at the situation in it's entirety. This was the second major issue with a system that is 1.5 years old. If Carrier was well within their rights to deny my claim, you'd better believe that there would be more than a negative review. As for his idea that constant updates were deemed unnecessary. Had I known that they were trying to get my unit replaced, would any rational human being escalate the issue with rudeness? Hendricks is painting me as a rude, raving lunatic, liar and that ESA is the unwitting, innocent service provider trying their best to provide good service. He was never involved with my conversations with the service manager. He assumed that Steven was telling the truth. I welcome the opportunity to discuss the situation with him. When I chose to go with ESA to replace our system a year and a half ago, I didn't shop prices or companies. I just valued the service that they had demonstrated over the years. I guess I was short sighted. It won't happen again. read more

ESA has been our go-to HVAC service company for over four years. The first time I called them for service they were able to respond the same day (within a couple of hours!!) and did such a good job I decided to "adopt" them. Our 21 year-old heat pump recently had a failure that was costly enough to have me decide to replace the system. We were given a quote for not just one, but three different systems. I was wanting the best, so we had the top-of-the-line Carrier system installed. The install procedure was great, taking 30 minutes less than expected. I was given a "tour" of the new components and an orientation on the workings of the touch-screen thermostat. Bottom line: If you need a service call for your HVAC, call ESA. Period. read more

Our AC died on a Sunday night on the hottest day of the year (of course). We called around 9 a.m. on Monday morning and the tech arrived by 11. He diagnosed the problem, was very nice, honest and it was fixed before noon. ESA charges $100 for the visit, which is not applied toward the fix if you use them, which is a policy I don't agree with, but if you need quick, honest service these guys do the trick. read more

My 24-yr-old but pretty decent (for a 1996 model) Lennox HVAC finally bit the dust a week ago. Through regular maintenance, and keeping an eye on things, ESA had kept it going, until the compressor finally locked up and the whole thing needed to be replaced (no surprise, I knew that was coming). I called ESA first for an estimate, of course, but got estimates from two other recommended, highly rated companies. I already felt, through long experience, that I could trust ESA, and it turned out their price was actually better, so it was an easy decision. Installed today, there were no surprises on this end, and they finished an hour early. ESA employees are well trained, on time, knowledgeable, pleasant, they do their homework, and were covid-10 prepared. We have used environmental systems associates for three years now. Tarrence Morgan has been the technician that has serviced our heat pump unit. The service that Mr. Morgan has provided is always thorough and fair, we do not need to call back because the work was not done properly. In addition, the honesty of the work is what we appreciate the most. He does not arrive trying to sell us a new unit, and does not replace parts that are needed; the objective of many other companies is first to replace the units and second to sell a service agreement. Based on our experience, we strongly recommend this company and technician, their honesty and competence is rare in today's service market. read more

We have had a yearly checkup contract with them for a couple of years on 2 properties. This year, a few weeks after the checkup gave us a clean bill of health, our AC went down. Over the next two weeks they proceeded to come out 4 times, each time claiming they knew the problem and replacing a part with a brand new part and billing us. First adding a capacitor start kit, then a fan motor, then telling us we need a new compressor. On the day they replaced the compressor their tech managed to gas himself with coolant, resulting him having to go to urgent care and then hospital to purge the stuff from his lungs. my wife and daughter had to witness. 5 or 6 hours later they sent someone to finish the install. Still charged us full price on the compressor. I called the owner to discuss the near death and their inability to diagnose the problem, their failure to admit they weren't sure of the cause of our problem along the way, and the option to test out their diagnosis with used parts, which tech admitted they had. He said the right things, claimed he needed to talk to service guy who was out so he would get back with me the next week and they might adjust billing so to hold off on that. He didn't get back to me for weeks until we got nasty call that we were late paying amount due. After I pointed out we hadn't heard from owner he delegated service guy to call instead of calling us back as he had promised. No explanation why billing hold had not been passed on to staff. So now the mistakes have really piled up. Owner finally calls and claims for business reasons he won't come back and remove the new fan we didn't need and won't charge us for that. No empathy with what we put our family through by their accident of gassing an employee, which he admitted this employee had done before. needless to say, we won't be using their services on our house again. read more

Had heat pump serviced in fall under maintenance contract. When spring arrived and temperatures rose we found the AC was not working. Called ESA, we were due for spring maintenance and indicated they would send someone for that and a diagnosis of the cooling issue. Technician arrived and found that the unit was low on coolant, presumably due to a leak. Recommendation was to inject a dye to find source of leak and add coolant (r22 so very expensive these days) and wait - when system lost cooling power they would come out, fine the leak via the dye and fix the leak. We asked if there was any way to identify the source of the leak before filling it with coolant and how much coolant it would take to fill. The answer was that there was no other way, and it would take an unknown amount - there as no way to measure ahead of time. After much discussion and apprehension on our part the technician indicated that he would "tighten up all the connections" and that this may fix the leak, and that he guessed it would need 3-4lbs of coolant, that we could forgo the dye, and see what happens. Faced with a known leak, an unknown amount of coolant needed and two costly bandaids "tighten and fill" or "dye and fill" we opted to not have the service done. The technician indicated that he would still "tighten up all the connections" and when we were ready to have them just fill or dye and fill the system we could call back in. We opted to get a second opinion, the technician from the alternate company used a meter to identify the source of the leak within a few minutes - coincidentally the source of the leak was at the connector between the liquid line and the compressor. The technician indicated the it appeared that the nut had been wrenched on and ovaled out. We have no idea when or how the compression of the line occurred (though we were told connections were tightened by ESA) - regardless the technician said it was painfully obvious where the leak was. They were also able to quickly estimate the amount of coolant needed In summary, the technician ESA sent did not seem well armed for proper diagnosis of a leak nor was he armed with the ability to tell us the cost to recharge the system, only the rate for the coolant. The "tightening" completed by the tech and the ultimate source of the leak still don't sit well with us either. The diagnosis and suggested course of action both felt incomplete and after getting second opinion where both concerns were aleviated completely we were positive we made the right choice not having ESA continue servicing our house. read more

This company installed our HVAC years ago total $6000 we also had them replace a hot water heater. We have had about 4 hot water heaters over the years every other one covered by warranty. The last time we called them they said they don't do hot water heaters??? Well, I was very confused since they installed it. My guess was they didn't want it covered under the warranty. Over-Rated & Watch Your Wallet: We chose Environmental Systems Associates to examine problems that we were having with our heating system because of their good reviews. Things started out well. Terrence, the technician who was sent to examine the problem, did a good job. He fixed a minor problem and noted that the motor module needed replacement. He told us that part would be "easy to get locally," and during the subsequent visit, we would not be charged for a service call, but just for the time for installation. The problem began when we received a call from Maureen the next morning. She indicated the motor module would cost us $ 530.54 and with installation the total cost would be $ 790.54. I was surprised by the high cost and mentioned that the motor module seemed like a small part. She laughed and told me that I did not understand, because it included a lot of complex computer parts. I then asked how long it took to install. She noted that it would be about an hour. When I asked why it would cost $ 260 to install, she indicated that it included the time to get the part which "was not easy." The combination of her condescending/negative tone and the inconsistency with the technician's comment about the ease of getting the part resulted in our seeking other alternatives. Several other contractors provided costs for the job. The cost for the part was somewhat less expensive from the other contractors but only by about 10%. The cost for the labor for installation was much less expensive with the highest being $ 130. Therefore, Environmental Systems Associates cost for installation was 100% higher than the next highest estimate we received. When the technician from the contractor we chose installed the motor module, it took him 1/2 hour. He apologized for having to charge us $ 125 as they had to charge their minimal hourly fee. We should probably thank Maureen for her attitude as it inspired us to call others and save a lot of money. read more

Our furnace broke last fall (October 2013), and since it and our AC were original to our home, we opted to replace it all at the same time. We received three quotes - from Michael and Sons, Arundel Heating and Cooling, and Environmental Systems Associates. ESA was the cheapest of all three, for equipment with the same specs/ratings. Michael and Sons even tried to upsell us to a higher tonnage AC unit, which we didn't need, and Richard (the owner) confirmed that when he gave me my estimate. One of the installers took some extra time and corrected a problem with one of the dampers in our duct work which wouldn't close completely. I waited to write this review to test the systems heating and cooling abilities over the summer and winter. Thankfully, we didn't need the higher capacity unit (this one works fine), our winter gas/electric bills were lower, and our summer bills are trending lower too. I can't recommend these guys enough - they are friendly, fairly priced, and a small local company. read more

I had to get my HVAC replaced at my condo as well as my water heater and I was extremely impressed by how professional ESA was. I called for a quote and they got me on their schedule within 2 days and even came out early in the morning so that I could still get to work on time. I had the proposal from them hours later (as compared to the other company I asked, who took 3 days and 2 calls to provide me with a final quote...that was 20% higher!) On the day of the installation, ESA arrived on time - and had about 6 people working on the two systems to ensure that everything was completed on time. They laid out protective sheets on my floor to ensure that my carpet remained spotless. ESA was responsive, on time and did a great job overall. Our AC went out on a Thursday night when the temps were running in the 90's during the day and low 80's at night...pretty miserable. First thing Friday morning, I called and the receptionist couldn't have been nicer. She was able to schedule an appointment between 4:00 and 6:00 pm that same day...wife was afraid that they wouldn't come until after the weekend and the high temps were supposed to continue throughout the weekend. Ivan G was the technician who arrived to bail us out. He was actually one of the original technicians who installed our system. He arrived within the specified time period and quickly diagnosed the problem as a blown capacitor. He replaced it and did a full system test of the unit, all within about a 30 minute period. He acted in a truly professional manner, was extremely knowledgeable about the hardware and made some helpful suggestions going forward. I was impressed and pleased with his performance. We have lived in our home for over 30 years and ESA has installed several systems for us over the years. Their service and integrity have been exemplary. My wife was quick to note that they came out the same day while many of our neighbors, dealing with other companies, have had to wait days just for a technician to show up. Kudos to ESA!!! read more
