For reference, they are maybe a half mile to a mile away from the Military Highway Light Rail Station. Since I generally ride the light rail once a month into downtown Norfolk, I had a different way of getting to this place, as well as the surgery center across the way from this place. The visit here was on April 6, 2026. Getting to the location can be a bit confusing at first just because of the way the road is set up. Once you see the building though, it wasn't too hard to get to it. There was plenty of parking available, including handicap parking on this visit. The reason for this visit was that my mom was referred here by her eye doctor for cataract surgery to see Dr. Scoper. When you first come in, there are two floors, and the one we needed to go to was on the first floor, so that made it easier. Once we came in, they asked us who the patient was and I let them know that and they said to sit down and wait until getting called back up for the check in process. After about 15 minutes, they said her name and that we didn't need to come up as they had everything needed already. We were then given some information and such about cataract surgery while waiting for her to be called back for the first part, which was the testing. This is where it really counted when it comes to the low rating for this review. They did have signs around the waiting area about being short staffed, but it took almost 3 hours to get to the testing portion. During that wait, someone came around with snacks for anyone that wanted them while waiting. That part took about 15 minutes or so, with just her going back there and then came back out to the waiting area. About 10-15 minutes later, we were called to go to the next part of the process. This part of the process included watching a video about the cataract surgery process and such, and then going through the pros, cons, and possible issues with a cataract surgery and the types of surgeries available (there were three types to choose from) with one of the staff members. Due to cost, we went with the least costly option as that was the only type the insurance would cover (Medicare). After all of that was done, there was another waiting period, which took about 30 minutes, until Dr. Scoper was ready to see us about her cataract surgery. He started with a check of the eyes and confirming that cataract surgery would be good for her. He explained the process and how it would go. He told us about the eye drops that would be needed before and after the surgeries, and they have a compounding pharmacy that they use. It would be one that insurance would not cover, but the overall cost was just over $100 for that. This was a great and very informative part of this visit, so this was the best part of it. After that part was completed, we went through the checkout process. This process consisted of scheduling both surgeries and contacting the PCP to schedule a medical clearance ahead of time. The reason for two different dates was one for each eye. The surgeries would be scheduled for May and June respectively at the CVP Surgery Center basically across the street from this location, so the surgery part will be reviewed separately from this one. Overall, the significant waiting process was what kept the review as low as it is. They had signs about being short staffed, but with that being the case, they really shouldn't be scheduling as many appointments with that being the case. You could tell that the front desk staff seemed overwhelmed at times too with so many coming in while we were waiting. Since there aren't many options available in the area, they are still worth looking into. I would call ahead to ask how the wait times would look like and that type of thing so you can be prepared for that on the day of your appointment.

I despise the policy that has the sales people come into the exam room before the exam is over. It's invasive and pushy and the business I'm sure benefits from the transition or some nonsense they tell you...but I hate hate hate it. Keep the sales person out of my office visit. I feel coerced. This is a long standing policy so I'm sure it will never change but it so unecessary. The only reason I still come is I like the medical care I receive but I'll never buy glasses from them just because they do this. And I will say this is in no way about the specific sales people. I explained our situation to Angela and she listened emphatically and went back to see if she could squeeze my wife in. I wasn't expecting them to be able to do anything and they were so backed up that they couldn't take her but I'm so appreciative that she got out of her seat and even asked. I discussed with Myra and we decided that since we drove an hour and 25 miles to get out here we might as well ask about doing a walk in eye glass purchasing appointment. I didn't think they did walk ins but was pleasantly surprised when Vicki said we could. All we had to do was go schedule it at the front desk. After waiting a minute for someone to return to the front desk Vicki just came and took us back. Even though Myra couldn't do her eye appointment Vicki made our trek worth it and was able to help us both get straight with our glasses. Vicki has such an optimistic demeanor. She really made my wife feel beautiful and confident. She heard my needs and priorities as well and I got some prescription sunglasses for less than $200 out of pocket and they don't look bad at all. The sunglasses will be primarily used for driving since my transitions don't work in the car. I'm very pleased with this location and Beach Eye Care's exceptional customer service.

But Angela at the front desk was so nice and helpful. She still checked with my doctor to see if it was possible for me to be seen that day. She was so sweet and patient! It took me about an hour and a half to find the right frames...there were so many great options to choose from. She went above and beyond -- she showed me different transitions lens options, activated the transitions colors multiple times so that I could get a good sense of how dark the different color options get, pulled a bunch of styles from the back, and even popped the lenses off of a pair of display sunglasses that she thought would match the glasses frame style I liked. This CVP Surgery Center is located in Norfolk. For reference, I think they are within a mile of…read morethe Military Highway Light Rail Station. It is located on Corporate Blvd. and the road connects with Military Highway and Curlew Rd (which is the road that the light rail follows). The final visit was on June 2, 2026. When coming up to the place at first, it was hard to find the entrance as the GPS was giving the wrong way to get there, but we did eventually make it. There was plenty of parking available, including quite a few handicap spaces too. The building isn't hard to find when you see the CVP Surgery Center sign. When you come inside, the place was very clean and well maintained. It was nice and bright too, so it was an overall great atmosphere to be in. They do tend to get busy, so at times, the seating can become limited, as I experienced that on the June 2, 2026 surgery mom had (it was a later arrival time than the first one). I was curious as to what the CVP stood for. The prior name was Virginia Eye Consultants. CVP stands for CEI Vision Partners, which was originally connected with the Cincinnati Eye Institute. The company name now is Eyecare Partners LLC. My mom was the one to have the cataract surgeries in both eyes. The right eye was done on May 5, 2026, and the left eye was done on June 5, 2026 by Dr. Scoper. The scheduled time for the first surgery was to be there at 6:15 am when they open the doors (doors open at 6:10 am). The process outlined next is the same each time you come in. You go to the counter after entering and sign in with your name and who is doing the surgery. After that, you remain in the waiting room until you get called to one of the intake booths. They go over everything that you would have already gotten from the first encounter at their other facility nearby. Of course there were signatures needed and such. Once all of that was done, it was time to wait again in the waiting room. One of the staff will come out and call the patient by name to come with them to go back for pre-surgery prep. The driver that is with the patient doesn't go with them. Instead, they get called back separately once they are set up on the monitors and such. Once they were ready to take her back for the surgery, I had to go back to the waiting room until it was done. In both instances, it was much quicker than I thought it would be. In both cases, it was less than an hour (closer to 30-45 min max). They call you back when it's done. Once everything is settled, they brought her out on a wheelchair to the car due to the waning effects of the anesthesia during the process. After the first week of each of the surgeries, mom did have a few blurs and such, but everything that happened, was noted as possible temporary post-op symptoms. After a few weeks done from each eye, everything stabilized and has been normal since. The great part is that she doesn't have to use glasses for the most part now except when reading up close. Overall, this part of the process was great. The staff were very friendly and answered any questions that we had before and after each surgery. They also do a telehealth call the day after to follow up on how the surgery went and what symptoms or issues you might have. If I need cataract surgery in the future, I would definitely look into having it done at this business.

On the day of surgery, I was so impressed with the facility and the staff. Great parking lot, wonderful staff members greeted us and their smiles eased my nervousness. The staff is top-notch and they know their stuff. I was taken back right on time. I could not take pictures of the operating room but it looked like a cool sci-fi novel cover. The technology that they have is crazy futuristic. CVP Surgery is the place to get any eye surgery, they spent some serious dollars obtaining the latest technology available. Anyhoo, the surgery went so fast that I felt like I had barely sat down when a hand on my shoulder told me everything went very well. The difference is literally fog vs clear skies. I can read without readers now. My prescription changed for the better in a very dramatic way. Dr. Scoper is an amazing surgeon and his staff are the best of the best. Update: I'm no stranger to surgeries and medical procedures, but so many of them have gone poorly…read morefor me, either by being painful or ineffective or mistakes being made. This was my first elective medical procedure and the only one that went smoothly and painlessly. The most painful part of this procedure was peeling the tape off my face to lift the eye shields up to put eye drops in. Getting the valium was a big help to my anxiety and took away my restless/fidgety nature so I could lay still during the procedure. This team seemed liked a well oiled machine; they communicated concisely and calmly and it was incredibly comforting to know what was going on and how long it would take for each step. When I heard "18 seconds," I felt extremely relieved, not just because that step was extremely short, but also because I knew what to expect. The team had an awesome sense of humor and had me laughing for half the procedure. There was pressure, there was discomfort, but there wasn't any pain and I don't think the entire procedure took 5 minutes. I kept my eyes closed for a few hours after, but when I woke up and lifted the eye shields, I could see, perfectly, and that's amazing. My friend was able to sit in a waiting room and watch/record the procedure on a TV, which was so cool. I've watched the video like 5 times already and I just can't believe the coordination and care they're able to achieve. I have 20/20 vision the day after the procedure, with no pain or dryness. To prepare for the surgery I took fish oil, lutein, and zeaxanthin, used preservative free eye drops generously as well as MSM eyedrops daily and used a steam mask daily. I've been giving my eyes a full 30 seconds closed at the beginning of every hour to be sure I don't experience the dryness or discomfort that I've read some others do. I'm not sure if all the prepping I did contributed to how smoothly it went, but I know it went a long way toward making my eyes feel better regardless.
