My wife was referred here after a routine test for eyeglasses revealed some minor abnormalities. That was five or six years ago, my wife has had annual visits since that time. When we first walked in we were immediately greeted and given some paperwork to fill out since it was our first visit. Upon completion of the paperwork we took care of the copay then were directed back to the waiting area.  I appreciated that they made sure we knew where the vending area and coffee areas were located. The place was pretty full and the front staff seemed a little unorganized and chaotic but everything somehow worked.  We left our home without our morning coffee so we ventured to the coffee machine.  Wow!  The coffee machine is amazing, it dispenses everything from regular brewed coffee to espresso to lattes to cappuccino to Chai tea to hot chocolate and more.  My wife got a latte and I got a cappuccino, the coffee was actually very good.  We also enjoyed some tasty complementary cookies.   Having read some reviews which indicated lengthy wait times we settled in but the wait wasn't bad at all.  After maybe 15 minutes we were given some literature and a portable DVD player on which to watch a video explaining glaucoma.  We were only a few minutes into the video when we were escorted to testing area where they ran some tests on my wife's eyes.  After the preliminary tests we resumed watching the video in another waiting area.  Again, we only watched about five minutes until we were taken to the exam room where the doctor would be seeing us.  An assistant asked some questions and prepared us to see the doctor, she was very helpful.  We resumed watching the video during which time the doctor entered the room and introduced herself.  She said she would wait until we finished the video before proceeding because she felt it was important.  After we finished the video we asked a few questions which Dr. Dewundara was happy to answer.  She then proceeded with a thorough examination and more testing, she explained every step of the process and was very polite, friendly and professional throughout our time there.  She showed us test results on the monitor and explained them very well.  She said there was one area that needed further testing so we would need another appointment in a couple of months. We were very impressed with Dr. Dewundara and feel fortunate for my wife to be under her care. My wife has continued to get great care here over the years since this first visit.  The stand-alone building has its own spacious parking lot so there are no parking worries.  Overall we are very pleased with Virginia Eye Consultants. We are impressed with the state-of-the-art facility The wait times can get a little lengthy but the friendly, helpful staff and quality of care we always receive make it well worth the waits. Sometimes, when we are in the area, I think about that coffee machine in the main waiting room and consider stopping in for a cup. So far, I have resisted that urge.

This is my third visit and they have done nothing except the same eye tests with eye chart and tell me how it takes time. My eyes hurt, are terribly irritated and my vision is slipping by the day. Follow up doc told me I need to meet with surgeon on next visit yet today's visit was not with surgeon. In addition, they were running "a minimum" of one hour behind but you can't leave once you check in to run a get a to-go bite. My appt was for 12:40 and I wasn't seen until after 3:10. And lastly, every visit I feel like I'm just a part on an assembly line. Rote verbiage over and over again.

We ran into HEAVY traffic on the way to…read moremy appointment and unfortunately got there 17 minutes late and I couldn't be seen for my appointment. The grace period is 10 minutes. But Angela at the front desk was so nice and helpful. She still checked with my doctor to see if it was possible for me to be seen that day. While I couldn't be seen, I was on the schedule for another appointment later in the week and me and my husband inquired about glasses. Vicki helped us pick out and find the perfect glasses. She was so sweet and patient! It took me about an hour and a half to find the right frames...there were so many great options to choose from. She went above and beyond -- she showed me different transitions lens options, activated the transitions colors multiple times so that I could get a good sense of how dark the different color options get, pulled a bunch of styles from the back, and even popped the lenses off of a pair of display sunglasses that she thought would match the glasses frame style I liked. I went with the frames in my review picture and am super excited about them! Vicki also helped my husband find a great pair of sunglasses too! Angela got us checked out and gave us some bottled water for the road. Great experience and customer service!

I'm someone who processes out loud and changes my mind approximately 15 times (especially with glasses!), and they were endlessly patient and supportive through all of it. We even ended up chatting about dogs, furniture building, sewing, and hobbies--which somehow made the whole experience feel relaxed and human instead of transactional. Even though I'm circling back to switch colors, I felt nothing but encouragement and kindness the whole time. Mikaela and Ryan truly listened, helped me think things through, and made what could've been an overwhelming decision actually fun. If you want knowledgeable people who are also just really pleasant to be around, these are your people.

On the day of surgery, I was so impressed with the facility and the staff. Great parking lot, wonderful staff members greeted us and their smiles eased my nervousness. The staff is top-notch and they know their stuff. I was taken back right on time. I could not take pictures of the operating room but it looked like a cool sci-fi novel cover. The technology that they have is crazy futuristic. CVP Surgery is the place to get any eye surgery, they spent some serious dollars obtaining the latest technology available. Anyhoo, the surgery went so fast that I felt like I had barely sat down when a hand on my shoulder told me everything went very well. The difference is literally fog vs clear skies. Today I reported at 09:35 for a 09:50 appointment and finally saw the doctor at 11:40. During this two-hour period, I spent 3 minutes getting checked in and checking acuity and pressures. I spent another 3 minutes getting eye photos and an hour and a half waiting. This is typical for that office. When questioning the delay, much of the staff was flip, unconcerned, and/or clearly annoyed. My vision prevents me from driving so I must impose upon others for transportation, and those kind people are also adversely impacted. I see other aged patients with canes, wheelchairs, and creeping at a snail's pace and see the discomfort on their faces as they wait and wait and wait and wait. It is sad. I hear the sarcastic comments of other patients as they wait and wait. When I discussed this with Dr, Rappaport, he told me that the staff is supposed to give regular status on the wait times but I have never heard jack. Never a status, never an explanation, and God forbid, never an apology. Such a status report would at least allow the opportunity to get a refreshment or reschedule in extreme cases. Had I treated ANY of my customers with such rudeness in my business dealings I would surely be unemployed and bankrupt. This is shameful. I have witnessed other specialists resolve this situation. It COULD be fixed, but as long as the money keeps flowing in, nobody seems interested respecting very people that who are responsible for the Tidewater Eye Center existence.

The reason for the poor review goes against the Riverside Hospital where the surgery was performed. During preparation for the surgery, the nurses and aides at the Riverside Hospital push you to get a "little" anesthesia for the surgery to ensure that you're comfortable during the procedure. Now, NO ONE from Cullom & Farah's office talked about anesthesia during the surgery and the need for it, but I thought - hey this is the same stuff you get at a Dentist's office so what's the big deal! Months later, after all the bills were paid by my insurance, I was hit by an additional $1,500 bill by Riverside Hospital! Surely, the staff at Collum and Farah should have been aware of what Riverside Hospital was doing and discussed the need or lack of anesthesia before I had the surgeries!
