From my very first initial contact, the staff was quick to respond, was warm, professional, and so patient in answering every question. They explained the entire process in plain language so I felt informed and comfortable before even stepping foot in the office. When I came in for my consultation, Dr. Rivers was just as kind, personable, and friendly as everyone had described. He walked me through the different vision correction options, explained the pros and cons of each, and made recommendations based on my needs -- without ever making me feel pressured. I ended up choosing the SMILE procedure, which was offered at a flat, affordable cost for both eyes (no hidden fees or "per eye" surprises that I was seeing everywhere). The procedure itself was fast and smooth. Dr. Rivers has such a calming presence he talked me through every step, making sure I was comfortable and fear-free. There's even a waiting area where your family or friends can watch the procedure if they'd like, which I thought was a cool touch. I noticed a difference in my vision immediately after the procedure -- I could read the time on the digital clock in the wall right away! By the next day, my vision was perfectly clear. They sent me home with everything I needed: eyedrops for moisture, antibiotic drops, sunglasses, coupons!!! and clear instructions for aftercare. I experienced only minimal discomfort in the days following. The office is beautiful!!! It's modern, great views, clean, and spacious, with plenty of comfortable seating. The location is super convenient, and I loved that there was garage parking with an exterior door that led directly into their office (no awkward walking around a building post-procedure!). It's not that Dr. Rivers isn't a skilled doctor--mistakes and human error can happen in any field. But unfortunately, I am one of the people who has to live with permanent LASIK complications and vision issues because of mistakes that occurred while under his care. I hesitated to write this review because I didn't want to damage his business. But this is my truth, and I believe others deserve to hear it. I've worn glasses since I was six years old, with a -7.0 prescription in both eyes. For years, I was told that LASIK could be an option for me, but only after my vision stabilized--usually around my 30s. So I waited until I was 35 and, after a friend recommended Dr. Rivers, decided to move forward with the surgery. After submitting my intake form, the office called me back within 30 minutes. The staff was kind, and we scheduled my consultation for the very next day. This is where the problems began. As someone who was completely dependent on contacts, I was never informed that I needed to remove them for a certain period before my appointment. I had never been to an eye surgeon before and didn't know what to expect. When I arrived and told the nurse I had just taken my contacts out, she said, "Oh, it's okay, no worries--we can redo the scans later." During that consultation, I felt uncomfortable. The nurse came across as cold and dismissive, and didn't explain the testing process. When I voiced my discomfort, she seemed irritated. When I later met Dr. Rivers, I explained my concerns about the contact lenses and the nurse's demeanor. He apologized and assured me the issue would be handled. He also said I would work with a different nurse going forward--which I did. However, no one ever redid my scans. Even though my surgery was scheduled for months later, no updated scans were taken. That crucial step was missed. Looking back, I should have been rescheduled. There is no reason why someone should go into LASIK surgery with only one set of scans--especially if they were wearing contacts right before. That oversight has changed the course of my life. What I didn't know at the time--but now painfully understand--is that if something goes wrong with LASIK, there is very little that can be done. Prior to surgery, I had no major issues with my contacts. But post-surgery, traditional contacts no longer fit my eyes, and I've had to rely on specialty lenses that are extremely uncomfortable, or glasses full-time again. Because of the lack of a proper assessment, I now suffer from a range of permanent LASIK complications: *My left eye was overcorrected, and my right eye was undercorrected *My astigmatism is worse than before *I experience constant halos and glare--every light looks like fireworks *I can no longer drive at night *I have light sensitivity and double vision *I've been told I no longer have enough corneal tissue to safely undergo any corrective procedures I've spent thousands of dollars trying to manage these complications, and I've been told I'll never regain clear vision. The emotional and financial toll has been overwhelming. It took me years to write this review because of the shame and grief I've carried. This was the worst decision of my life, and I'm reminded of it every single day. I remember reading LASIK horror stories and thinking, "That won't happen to me." I want others to know: it can happen. If your vision can be corrected with glasses or contacts, I urge you to reconsider LASIK. The risks may be more common--and more devastating--than you're led to believe. read more

I visited Dr. Rivers at EnVue recently to inquire about eye correction surgery - in particular, SMILE, which was how I had found the facility via google search. Despite my showing up late to my appointment due to traffic, the staff were graciously able to accommodate me without a problem. First off: the facility is spotless, modern and comfortable. Dr Rivers was friendly, thorough and honest in his explanation of all of the options. He and his staff spent almost an hour with me, running a bunch of tests and reviewing the results in detail. I was able to ask plenty of questions and never felt rushed or pressured at all. Dr. Rivers followed up afterward, as promised, with more information and offered his number if I had any questions. I ultimately decided to not go forward with a procedure (for now), but I still wanted to leave an account of my very positive impression, in the hopes that others will find it useful in their search. I got SMILE surgery at EnVue and 100% recommend it. I went to Envue because I saw Dr. Rivers is a former military surgeon, and the military does tons of LASIK, and I can confirm I felt I was in great, experienced hands. Dr. Rivers is the best in the area. The consult to see if I was a good candidate was free, and took about an hour. The staff were extremely kind and I enjoyed the fancy machines, including one that took a photo of my retina without needing those dilation drops that normally leave you blind for a couple hours (why doesn't every office have that?). Dr. Rivers took the time to explain the surgery but there was no pressure to book. The surgery itself took about 10-15 minutes though I was nervous, they did everything to make me comfortable, including letting me pick the music! I was sent home with eyedrops, slept off the Valium, and 4 hours later woke up seeing clearly with no downtime, which far exceeded my expectations. I work on my computer all day and was able to get back to work immediately. Dr. Rivers and his staff texted and called to check that I was doing well. A follow-up appointment was also included. A month later, my vision is 20/20. I'm slightly more sensitive to bright sunlight (it feels brighter), but I think wearing sunglasses on a bright summer's day is a great tradeoff for never needing glasses or contacts. I do see haloes around bright lights as well, but it doesn't impact my vision either because (like most people?) I don't often stare directly at lights. My eyes are only dry when I wake up, and I don't use eyedrops as they feel fine as the day goes on, which I hear is one of the benefits of SMILE -- less drying than LASIK, and this symptom has been improving over time. I 100% recommend SMILE and Dr. Rivers who has decades of experience in this newer, improved technique over LASIK.
