This facility needs to be under new management as the current must be aware of the issues with how this business is ran, the lack of empathy and bedside manner from the doctors and the mistreatment of the staff. I had three appointments at this establishment and quickly learned that unless you make an appointment to be one of the first patients you will wait for hours. That is unless you are the first patient of the day and the doctor you are scheduled to see if always late, and I mean late by 45 minutes or more. This was known by the schedulers and the optometrist assistants as when I mentioned I had been waiting for over an hour they stated that the doctor I was scheduled to see is always running late then takes her time eating her breakfast before seeing patients. After my second appointment of being prescribed 4 products three of which I had to purchase from them I realized that this place is a money grab. They want to continue pushing you to purchase their products instead of a resolution. I wanted to be sized for hard contacts as my optometrist had already confirmed I was the ideal candidate for it; however they stated they wished to continue meds. I made the decision after my third appointment that this was not the place for me. I never had an appointment where the waiting room was not full to the point patients were sitting in the hallway. Mywellness eye appointment today:with Washington eye Institute in Greenbelt Maryland. My appointment was at 2:15 PM Today Tuesday December 2, 2025 I received the standard text a few days prior to confirm my appointment which I did. The day of don't forget to arrive 15 minutes early for your appointment today Text arrived too. I arrived for my appointment promptly at 1:50 PM, which is 25 minutes before my appointment. I checked in at the desk and was told to have a seat some one would call you back soon. I noticed the waiting room was pretty much totally full with almost every chair taken. At 3:30 PM, I was finally called to the back where I was escorted and told to have a seat and they would be with me shortly to take me to the exam room. Apparently the process at Washington eye Institute is similar to waiting for a Disney ride. So approximately 3:45 I was escorted to a room where they began running some Tests and After one Test. I was told I'd have to wait as the next machine was being used. This process took a while. Finally the machine was Available and after that test was told to have another seat in the hall again and they will call me to another room. At approximately 4:20 PM. I was escorted to another room where they performed another eye test and I was given eyedrops to dilate my eyes. Then I was escorted back into the hall and told to wait where other patients were waiting wondering who would be the next lucky patient to go back to another room At this point, I struck up a conversation with other patients whose appointments were at 2 o'clock and 2:15 PM and such patients becoming quite irritated with the long wait. It's interesting. They want you there on time but seem to have no regards for your time once you've checked in and paid your co-pay At 4:50 I was escorted to another room where they told me to have a seat and the doctor would be in shortly. Finally at 4:55 PM the doctor came into the room and proceeded to give me an eye exam. At this point I voiced displeasure and that this had happened before and I thought the office was very unorganized with respect to scheduling and long waiting time. if there was a staff shortage and knew there would be a long waiting period they should' contact the patient to reschedule or offer them the opportunity to reschedule. The doctor was apologetic and told me to see the office manager when I checked out. Upon checking out I asked to speak to the office manager, Her name is Dana and I was told Dana had left earlier which I find interesting that she's not there to try and coordinate the chaos with how late the appointments ran. The lady checking me out, asked me if I had sunglasses since my eyes were dilated. I looked out the window and said well it's dark outside. I don't think I'll be needing them. . The first time for me is ignorance. The second time is stupidity on my part as this isn't the first time I've had this issue with Washington eye Institute running very late. I will be looking for a new ophthalmologist and I Will NOT be patronizing Washington Institute in the future. I am done. In closing, if you like long Disney wait time rides, make an appointment with Washington eye Institute in Greenbelt Maryland. read more

I highly recommend Dr. Summerfield. This is my second positive review in a couple years. I have great confidence in him and feel safe in his care. His professionalism and skill are exceptional. He sets a high standard for ophthalmology. He saved my eyesight and went above and beyond to find a solution to my vision loss when another doctor couldn't. I am so happy I found Dr. Summerfield. I do not recommend, a voicemail was left a week before my procedure, I returned the call within 30 mintues of receiving the voicemail (on a Thursday), I called the office, and no one in the office had a clue of why the message was left, but someone would give me a call back, (makes no sense), no one called me back , So I called again on Friday (the next day), and I asked to be transfer to the billing/authorization department, thinking that it was about an authorization, I was told the person I need to speak with was at lunch and would call me back. While I was waiting for the return call I faxed over my insurance and doctor's contact numbers and asked that someone give me a call.(I HAVE CONFIRMATION THAT THE FAXED HAD BEEN RECEIVED) when I went to the initial appointment I gave them the referral from my physician. I was told by nothing else was needed from me, I called every day was told the same thing each day(someone would call me back). FINALLY!!! the day before my procedure (a week later) I get a phone call WOW!!! and I did speak with the Office Manager. All the way through the visit they keep me informed about what they are doing and why it is being done. Questions are welcome and responded to. Avoid this place at all costs. They are unorganized and there is a clear lack of care for the patient. Here is what I had to go through. 1. I went there for cataract surgery on both eyes and I was informed that having lenses will be "great" (to quote the Doctor). 2. I was never informed that I will need reading glasses after the laser surgery no matter what (I didn't need reading glasses before the surgery). 3. I was charged the total payment at the clinic and when I went to the surgery center they told me that was a mistake. They, however, were able to figure that issue with the clinic. 4. I have opted for the left eye to be operated on first as my right eye used to be my dominant eye. However, in the surgery center, I found out that they made a mistake and ordered the right lens instead of the left, and if I don't go ahead with it they will have to reschedule. Needless to say, I went ahead as suggested by the Doctor. 5. After the surgery, I kept informing the Doctors (there were 3 of them) that my right was better but it now continuously keeps getting worse and worse. Instead of paying attention to my complaints, the Doctor (to whom I was handed over after surgery without even letting me know) got annoyed and sent me back to the Doctor that performed the surgery. He also kept on insisting that the eye is healing. After, much assistance, he finally took a closer look and found out that my retina had been detached, and since they took a month to pay attention, the center of the retina was also detached. 6. Once they found that, they sent me straight to the retina specialist who performed reattachment surgery the next day. By the grace of God, that surgery was a success. You can google the chances of success in such surgeries. 7. Since they took this long and the center got detached, I can not see anything from the middle of my eye. As an example, if I am looking at the traffic signal, I can't see the light that I am looking at with my right eye. I can only use peripheral vision. Now, I am having a hard time playing sports as I can't see the ball with the right eye and it is hard to figure out where the ball is coming from as the depth perception is not there. 8. In my left eye, I keep seeing blurriness before the vision clears, Doctor told me that my brain will adjust to it. It has been almost 2 years and I am still facing that issue. 9. Since I can't read from my cell phone without my reading glasses and I can't drive with them, I had to go back to wearing glasses. 10. When I told the Doctor that I can't even use my cell phone without glasses, instead of finding a solution, the Doctor literally told me to increase the font size on my cell phone. read more

In a recommendation from my optometrist, I made an appointment to visit today and was not even seen! After sitting for 30 minutes, I inquired how long the wait would be and was told I was next. However, after another 15 minutes - no doctor. I asked for my insurance card and ID back and informed the receptionist I was leaving because the process was taking entirely too long, as I needed to get back to work. No apologies or anything! I work hard for medical care and this is the treatment! Never again!! Update: I was contacted by the Manager who sent me a message this evening apologizing and offering to rectify this occurrence (offering appointment and even a direct number to contact to do so)! Although I no longer require services (as I was seen by another Optomologist today), it is good to know they aware and trying to bring resolution. read more

Wonderful opthamologist, Dr. Goodman. He's young and vibrant and I can always trust that he will know about the latest technology to discover and treat any eye condition I might develop. The staff is unusually attentive compared to many medical offices I've been to in this area. I've been going here for at least five years, and I have never felt rushed through any appointment. Dr. Goodman takes his time answering questions and is excellent at tracking his patients developing eye diseases. He lets the patient take the lead when it comes to treatments. read more

Got sent to this place from my dr. First off, the dr that saw me took more than a hour to get to me. Then he spent the next 30 mins trying to put in the prescription for the glasses, but couldn't find the right place that he needed to send it too. Then he ordered some drops to be sent to a Walgreens, that never got sent out until I sat at the Walgreens on the phone with this dumpster fire of a place and made the poor receptionist hunt down someone who could actually send it out. I wish I could do more than just give them a 1 star. read more

From my very first consultation with Dr. Summerfield, I knew that I had gotten incredibly lucky to have found such an amazing doctor. After being told that my nearsightedness was too bad to be a candidate for lasik, I went to see Dr. S if I would be a candidate of ICL (Implantable Collamer Lens). The staff is also professional, knowledgeable, and friendly. Dr. Summerfield always went the extra mile to make me feel at ease with everything and I have never met a doctor with such an amazing bedside manner. I would highly recommend anyone who is not a candidate for lasik to do themselves a favor and set up a consultation with Dr. Summerfield. Dr. Summerfield impressed me from my first consultation with him, by his thoroughness, first in carrying out examination and ordering measurements (carried out by his assistant) to determine whether I was a good candidate for cataract surgery, then in preparation for the surgery. (When certain corneal measurements seemed somewhat offthe chart in two successive sessions, he ordered a third set of measurements, "just to make sure".) His attention to all the points I was making, and his detailed answers to my questions, were reassuring as well, as was his friendly demeanor. If felt confident I was in good hands. And I am delighted by the job he then did as a surgeon. (I went for "monovision", and I now no longer wear glasses, even for reading--though I am 61.) read more

From when I made the appointment to when I left after an in-office surgery, I was always confident that the people around me knew exactly what they were doing. They people on the phone were warm and patient and the medical staff was very efficient. The doctor was able to see what was wrong with my eye and cure it in remarkably quickly. Furthermore, the appointment was exactly on time. The office was clean. I have no negative comments :) This is my first 'yelp' entry because I was worried about going to a specialist that I wasn't familiar with and I was relieved that I lucked out.
