I am compelled to share my EP3 horror story where I spent $16k for a replacement engine only to receive an old engine and still have engine problems to this day. I originally went to EP3 to have my engine fixed after turbo failure. After inspecting, EP3 informed me that the engine was good and can be rebuilt. Then a month later, they told me that they don't want to rebuild it and recommended a new engine. They had an engine lined up for me (from a 2015 car, 40k miles). I already waited a month at this point and frustrated, I said to proceed. I paid $4600 and asked for the engine VIN. EP3 did not furnish the VIN for several weeks. And when they did, I learned that the car was burned in a fire. I went to the shop to take a closer look myself; thankfully, no signs of fire damage. But to be safe, I ordered a bunch of OEM BMW engine parts and paid to have the cylinder head refreshed. After supplying EP3 with the new parts, the workers informed some of the new parts did not fit the engine. I ordered the parts for the VIN that EP3 provided, so they had to fit. Was it the wrong VIN? I confronted EP3 on this discrepancy. The owner denied wrongdoing and failed to provide a reasonable explanation. I pulled the engine serial number to see what was going on and EP3 told me that this number does not correlate with any specific car VIN. This was not true as my resource at BMW was able to do this. I was shocked to find that the donor car was a 2011 BMW X5 with 100k miles: four years older and much higher mileage than what I paid for. At this point, EP3 told me to contact their legal team. But the car was still at their shop. Finally, after months of waiting, EP3 finished the engine replacement using the 2011 engine. They told me the car is ready and to pick it up. Shortly after, they called me again to tell me there are issues with the engine. They proceeded to open it, replace the Valvetronic motor, and reassembled. Issue persisted. They opened the engine again to replace a shaft and it fixed the issue, so I was able to take the car home. Another issue became apparent: the engine was not able to reach operating temp. Replacing the thermostat did not help. I took the car back to EP3 once again where they replaced all the sensors. For 2 weeks, EP3 continued to bleed the coolant. This was ridiculous but I had no choice, so I waited. When I picked it up, I was shocked to see that the issue was still not fixed after waiting so long. The car went back to EP3 again, they worked on it for 2 more weeks, told me it was fixed. And of course, it wasn't. I learned that there was another thermostat located at the heat exchanger for the automatic transmission. I purchased the part and asked EP3 to replace it. This resolved the issue. I am not sure why EP3 did not consider this until I told them. After picking up the car again, I noticed a very loud knocking noise. A part inside had broken into pieces. This part is specific to the older version of my engine and was also installed by EP3. Pieces from this part and metal hardware rattled inside the engine. EP3 was somehow confident that there was no extra damage. I then discovered more issue: oil leaks, loose bolts on the oil pan, and stripped threads. The engine was loud and there was a constant metal ticking noise. To top it off, the Valvetronic issue also resurfaced. I reached out to EP3 for warranty. The owner refused to work on my car any longer. After spending $16k, I now have a 70k mile vehicle with a 100k mile engine that is loud and throws error codes. And even after requesting all parts be saved, I only got back about 20% back. EP3 said that they were thrown away. I also paid extra to keep my original engine, and I received it with a bunch of parts missing. After pointing this out, I eventually received more parts but still not all of them. This is all supported by documents and written communication. My goal is not to speak ill of anyone. I am simply sharing my own unfortunate experience with EP3 in hopes that it may help someone in the future. read more

On a drive from NYC to Seattle, I started experiencing cooling issues with my 04 325i. I was concerned to continue driving it so I gave Brian a call. We both decided as long as it was staying on the cold range of the thermometer, I should be okay. As soon as I got to EP3, Brian immediately diagnosed multiple issues with the car. He was able to have the car up and running within the next 48 hours. His price and work was so good, I decided to see if he could fix two lean codes that the vehicle had in its DME for about three years. After a couple of different repairs, some minor and some major, he had replaced a good amount of parts that needed to be replaced anyway. Unfortunately, it didn't solve the problem and the codes came back about 800 miles away. These guys are such stand up guys, that they decided to refund me for the labor on the replacements because the issue wasn't fixed. I was shocked! You would never get this type of customer service from a Dealer. I highly recommend anyone and everyone to take their BMWs to EP3 if they're in the Chicagoland area. They are quite possibly the fairest shop I have ever come across. On a side note, I was picking up my car before I left Chicago and noticed him doing work on his sister's Jeep. That Jeep was the same model and year as my girlfriend's (who happens to live in Elgin). He said he was replacing the rotors and doing some other work on her brakes. Just so happens that my girlfriend will be needing some new brakes here pretty soon as well. When that happens, I'll be telling her to take her car to Brian. I've used three of the BMW shops in the area. These guys are in a league of their own. Always exceptional work. I had them install an upgraded FMIC, OCC, walnut blast, coils, wheel alignment, and plugs to complete my FBO Stage2+ build on my 335is. The attention to detail is top notch. For example -I did the cowl delete myself and had installed some temporary zip ties, waiting for my order to arrive. When I got my car back from the OCC install, they also put in proper zip ties. Another time -They had to drop my trans to fix leaks. Due to seized bolts and correcting poorly installed downpipes (Schaumburg shop I won't name here), it took 2x as long as estimated. I offered to pay more, but they refused. Most recently, assisted in a TPMS controller replacement recoding that would have been $$$ at BMW dealer. As long as I live in this area, I will be an EP3 customer. read more

I live in the Fox Valley, and I used to take my BMW for service at dealerships in Schaumburg and Naperville. The repairs were extremely expensive, and there were several times that I had to go back again either because the repair wasn't done right or the problem was diagnosed incorrectly and an unnecessary repair was made that didn't fix the problem. I don't have those issues any more now that I have found EP3 Motorsports. Brian and the crew are great to work with. Their prices are much less than what you would pay at a dealer, and the repairs are done right. Very professional.....they will point out what your car needs, but won't force anything on you. Wow! What a great car maintenance experience I just had with Brian. Brian is a master BMW mechanic and a really nice guy, who did an oil change and inspection on my 2010 328xi this morning. One of the coolest car experiences I've had in a long time. He showed me all the areas of concern around the engine to keep an eye on. He also found 2 lightbulbs out in the brake lights that 2 other mechanics had not been able to figure out because they were each one of a pair, and then he replaced them at NO CHARGE. He works Saturdays. I called to make an appointment yesterday, and he called me right back and got me in this morning, first thing in the morning. He was very efficient and thorough. I was impressed with his level of knowledge about beamers. If you have a beamer or a VW, and are within 15miles, this is definitely where I'd take it for any service. I brought my 09 E92 335i with 75k into EP3 motorsport for a check engine light and running issue. they said I had multiple faults for misfires and that my intake valves had large amount of carbon build up. They told me that they can perform a carbon cleaning procedure using a BMW approved carbon cleaning tool. Before they performed the cleaning they allowed me in the shop to physically see all of the carbon buildup so that I can better understand the repair . I just purchased a new BMW X4 and I wanted to protect my new wheels and keep them clean at the same time. I had a friend mention to me there was a BMW specialty shop down the street from my work. I stopped by and asked the gentlemen at EP3 what can be done about all this brake dust? They explained this process where they coat my wheels with a protective chemical called optimum wheel gloss-coating. I decided to have them perform this wheel coating process. After a few weeks of normal day to day driving my wheels look great and when I wash them brake dust was washes away with no staining left behind. I was a little skeptical about this process at first but after seeing the results it was well worth it. I felt comfortable speaking with them and they were able to get me in right away.
