When you've done a number of escape rooms, I feel as though they can sometimes become formulaic and you're just trying to solve puzzles in the same way as you always have. This room required us to think outside of what we knew about prior escape rooms and had solves that we hadn't seen other places. Our Game Master was also very friendly and even gave us a few extra minutes to escape the room since one of the puzzles had not functioned properly and because we were very close to escaping. Andrew was our host and was nothing short of amazing. We have done 65+ rooms and he was one of the best hosts we have ever had. The room was very fun with clever puzzles. Andrew made it very special, he was attentive, and made sure we had the best time possible. We had previously done Alien Zoo, which was also fun, but Malice Manor was deliciously macabre. During the game play we could ask for clues, we needed many, ha, ha. The clues they gave were helpful and helped us push on to eventually solve it with only less than a minute on the clock. We did the Tales from the Attic room. I won't give away any of the room, I will only say it was kind of like a mystery game of hang man to fill in the clues as we found them. It was different than other escape rooms I have done, but it was fun figuring out the clues to fill in the puzzles. I believe they have 4 different escape rooms here and I am sure they are all just as fun. If you are looking for a fun group activity, work outing, birthday party, etc. I would recommend an escape room and if in the Portland area check out Escape Games PDX. If you solve the game, you can pick a little key trinket as well and go up in the leader board if you solve it fast enough. We unfortunately did not make the leader board. Enjoy!

We did the Prison Heist room because a couple of us had never done an Escape Room before and it seemed like a perfect starter room. Loved that the room is non-linear and the clues were all cohesive. You had a choice of dressing the part as they had inmate costumes readily available. The door is never locked so you can get out if needed. Also, for this room, there is no clock. Your gamemaster will let you know once you have 30 and 10 minutes left. Jake gave us fantastic clues and didn't make us feel like idiots for asking. I feel like we asked for only maybe a handful of clues. We escaped with about 11 minutes to spare. Loved that they had merch for each specific room. Makes it easier to grab a souvenir. We also were able to pick out a tiny key as our prize for escaping. Cute touch. Good job, Escape Games PDX!

I love supporting local and wanted to take my teen for a pottery painting experience. The mugs we…read morewanted were all dirty, but we were assured the markings would burn off. At $40 it's a pricey mug! I understand it's not just the mug, but the paint, rent, kiln, staff expenses. But it meant we'd only be painting one item at that price. So we chatted happily while my teen painted the mug and I asked to color in a tiny heart on the side to fulfill my art craving. That tiny heart, using no additional supplies or brushes, cost me an additional $10. We used 2 colors, 2 brushes and required no guidance, but the final cost of the one mug, plus 2 studio fees (because I painted a tiny heart), without drinks, landed up being over $65! That's a little OTT, but it was a great memory with my teen. I hope the dirt on the mug actually does burn off- because at $65, I'd hope to have an unblemished lifelong memento.

If you want to rent a less than 100 seat theater as a presenter, or see some experimental performances as an audience participant, this is a good spot to explore. They are also home to workshops at the space and in the St Johns area. As others have mentioned, the theater fronts a broad gravel yard entering behind the building address. You can drive, bike or walk easily around the front of the building on NE Farragutt to the right facing it, traveling behind to the East to the area below by train tracks. You might bring a flashlight to avoid puddles when it is raining between car-bike and theater. I have seen quite a few very unique performances here. The comradery, community and discussions are unbeatable. If you are a cultural explorer in the area, suggest to bookmark the site for upcoming events and then sample them as you desire. They are Portland central for performances and workshops in the modern dance butoh dance form. Headwaters Theater has a rare schedule of performances and workshops, but if you learn about them through Yelp, and it sounds interesting to you, go, see do!

This was good advice, as the theater is located in the bottom of a building, which you can only approach from around the corner near some sketchy looking railroad tracks. Once inside, the place is actually quite nice, with comfortable seats and good sound and lighting. They seem to present a lot of experimental theater and dance; check their website for current listings!
