My Raid Server got hit with Ransomware and our system went down on Thursday. Even our "Ransomware-Proof" backup server got infected. The hackers were asking for thousands to give us the decryption key, but we could not afford it. AWS was no help and logistics was not going to work out. Just got my iPhone back with all my data recovered and restored. They said it should be replaced to be safe but that as long as I have my back that they gave me and back up my data often on my MacBook Pro, that I should be good. The phone had a problem where it suddenly wouldn't turn on at all even after changing and charging the battery. The battery couldn't even charge or at least the screen didn't show anything. I brought it to their midtown location a few days ago, and they told me the next day that it had some problem with the memory chip. I gave them the go with my fingers crossed. Fast service with great attention to detail. My MacBook Pro stopped working a week ago after taking a spill. The whole logic board was smoking for for a bit. Rice was not an option this time. Apple suggested them since apple couldn't recover anything from the iCloud. It took a while and after a few days I got my data back on a Sandisk SSD. My Macbook Pro crashed last week and they came to an Epic rescue! I was amazed that they answered the phone in the middle of the night. Their tech was vary helpful with logistics of the service and scheduling a late night pickup. Sad to see had how so many trolls are trying to bug these guys. NYC can be so negative at times. One of the reasons why I chose not to live here; It's great however to have such services available when you need them. I initially brought my dead laptop to a repair shop, but they told me it was impossible to recover my files. All they could offer was to replace the hard drive and restore the system, the but without my files being recovered. I then found Epic and called them as a last ditch effort. There is no question that they know their craft. They came through for me as promised! A bit of warning, they work by appointment only, so you can't just drop in. They did however offer a pickup option in the middle of the night. They put all my recovered files on cute portable G-tech drive. They then helped me setup a solid backup routine. After shooting a movie for my thesis, my cinematographer realized to our horror that the memory card was suddenly corrupted. Our full day of videos in different locations were unreadable. These guys did STELLAR work in recovering ~70G of DJI drone footage from my wife's iPhone that was accidentally deleted. Jim was awesome in explaining all the available options, while detailing their process. He frequently communicated updates on the recovery progress via email and by phone. When I followed up about a small portion of missing data from a specific time frame, he was able to go back into the phone's storage and locate the missing data that the DJI app had corrupted. If you've read one data recovery view you've read them all - Not valuing something until it's potentially gone forever Seagate Free Agent 1TB external drive had unexpectedly failed giving me an issue input/output device reading error. The partition was not being recognized correctly and thus was not reading the drive. Occasional sequence of clicking sounds of about 4-5 clicks, was also a symptom. In my panic stage I naturally started calling calling all the data recovery companies in my local New York City area. Someone from Epic Data Recovery answered on a late Friday night around 9 PM, giving me both cautionary and reassuring words based on the symptoms that I have described over the phone. We had arranged for Saturday next day drive pick-up, with preliminary diagnostic done that same evening. The full report revealed that the heads needed to be replaced from a donor drive to be able to read the operational instructions on the platter. The whole recovery process was completed within the projected timeline of about 2 weeks, having received a hierarchy list of recovered data and a 1TB WD HD with the files for an all-in-price with deposits, parts & labor discounts and misc. fees of low 4 figures which was actually below competitor firms' quotes. That one star review is nuts. Nothing about this place seemed shady to me. What company wouldn't get out legal documentation before they attempt to recover critical data? Having a contract just made the process feel more legitimate. I would have given them 5 stars except a miscommunication meant they didn't get back to me very quickly. I used this company years ago and swore I would try my best to avoid the need of such services. - Well I thought I was well covered with my iCloud Account but lo and behold that was empty after my disaster. I called their tech from Sweden jumped right on my issue. They were able to recover my files remotely within hours. Hens my 4 star review. Wow, I just called them at 3am, and a guy there just helped me recover files from my MacBook Air within minutes. I don't know what the hell he did but my files are back where they use to be. Best of all he didn't charge me anything more then the initial fee. Just wish they could have come over instead so they can show me how to get my backup drive working again. I have no other backup of my iPhone that's on it, and my iPhone went dead 2 days ago after it updated. They said they need to see it to figure out if they can do anything and how much. John and Epic Data Recovery Labs saved my ass. Working late one Thursday I closed the lid of my Lenovo X61 laptop, threw it in my bag, and went out on the town. When I got home at 3am that night and fired up my machine I heard a clicking noise. Then everything started crashing and then it failed to boot up. Yikes! I evaluated like 5 different data recovery places and got estimates from 2 of them. I went with Epic Data Recovery Labs because they had a local clean room (as opposed to shipping it to CA or FL) and because they put a cap on how much they'd charge me for my data recovery. The data recovery was more expensive than quoted by Tekserve (by $200). Actual price was way over estimate (by $400). Communications were unclear. Terms were nebulous. Service was always late. Moreover, even though I explicitly stated I have a Mac, everything was returned PC-formatted. I pointed all of this out to John and he did nothing to make up for these shortcomings. All the said, he recovered every single file from my external hard drive. Take this as you will: John (proprietor) called me within less than 4 hours of my posting this to say he wanted to take legal action because of this review, with no attempt at mediation. Here is an actual letter from the proprietor: "I didn't you the letter to have you rate it, Professor. You get the point from it. If you persist, the lawsuit will get bigger and bigger. I'm doing this Pro Se. I am the lawyer in this case. Have your lawyer get a hold of me at the address and phone number listed at the bottom of the Cease and Desist email I sent you. "Like adults"? You call what you're doing civil? Mature? You expect an actual reply online to answer to your bullshit? I should let you know that I don't smoke marijuana. Never did. This company is a SCAM. First, they will quote you a very low price, and charge you three times what they quoted. They quoted me $155 and ended up charging me over $500 and STILL wanted me to pay for some dumb protection service at $85 per year. AND THEY DID NOT EVEN FULLY RECOVER THE FULL DATA! Most of the pictures they managed to save were corrupted. Oh yeah, I HAD to pay $500 or else he would keep my computer (cost me $1,500). That's plain and simply theft. I highly recommend Epic Data. My hard drive died and the first 18 months of pictures and videos documenting my daughters life was gone. Yes, I know I should have backed it up. I got in a situation where my iPhone home button was pierced by something sharp and my whole screen stopped working. I hadn't backed up my phone since 1 year prior. Called this company to see what their quote was like. They do charge a non-refundable fee, however it is deducted from your bill if you go through with the service. Since all this was last minute, I had no other option to go with whatever price he came up with. His price was 'ok' with me, compared to other big companies that would charge 2x for the same job. Only thing that annoyed me was that he didn't show up to the meetings on time. He was consistently 30-40 minute late to the meeting times, hence the 4 stars. I came to Epic Data Recovery for a damaged USB flash drive. Other places wanted to charge my $400-$650 to recover the data and would not even guarantee that their process would work. At Epic, I had my data on a DVD in less than 24 hours! Price was less than $200 (very reasonable!). Just so you know, they have a policy where if the estimate is less than a certain amount and you choose not to use their services, you owe them a minimum $$, a "Don't waste my time" clause as part of the contract. They explain it to you before you sign any contract. Also, they have another location in Manhattan, and if you drop off one place you can pick up another location, they also do pick ups and drop offs, etc. PS They accept credit cards, but there is a 4% processing fee, but they also accept cash and check. read more

John came and picked up my failed 12 Terrabyte Hard Drive as I was about to leave for Europe. While there he said he successfully recovered all data and demanded payment. As I was abroad I asked for a screen grab of the files recovered. Long story short he refused and threatened delete all my data and confiscate the $800 hard drive system. He did send me a list of files which showed that although he recovered some data it was no longer structured in folder and subfolders whereby it would be of any use for that amount of information. I payed him $1,697.28 in fear of losing my equipment and files. Upon my return I could not reach him, his office in the city no longer exists and I am out of pocket for not only the $1,697.28 fee, the 12 Terrabytes of photographs I lost + the $800 Mercury Elite-AL Pro Q2 drive. Are these people good at recovering hard drive data? I have no idea (I declined to use them/too expensive). Are these people, in my experience, reliable, communicative, or professional? I have to emphatically say No. Here are the facts. Their rep first said he'd call at 4 to confirm our meeting at 430. I don't get a call at 4. I call him instead at 415, I leave to meet him, and then he pushes it back to 445, and again to 500. He then makes a verbal promise, not once but twice, that I would hear back from him with an estimate if not that evening, then the next morning. I never hear from him. I had to call him in the afternoon. His excuse is that their official policy is 24 hour turnaround time on estimates. His word doesn't count. I decline on their estimate and we agree to meet the next afternoon. Again, I don't hear from him and left him several messages and texts. I finally get a text from him at 8:43pm, too late by then - and no apology included. We agree to meet the next afternoon. His last text to me says: "Ok i will txt you around noon with a time. Probably around 4." He does not text me at noon, or at all for that matter. (His excuse is that he didn't have reception where he was, but he of course didn't think to call me when he DID have reception.) I call him and we agree to meet. He first says he's available at 430 - 5 and I tell him I can meet a little after 5. He pushes the appointment back to 530 - 6. 530 rolls around he pushes it back to 630. He gives me the hard drive back, but the circuit board is not attached to it. He promises to bring it to me the next day. Again, he doesn't get in touch all afternoon (and I've told him several times by now that I need to know so I can make plans). I don't hear from him until 7:58. (Wow, thanks for the head's up.) I ask him to come near me and he says it's simpler if we meet near a subway. I live 1 mile from where we met originally, near 2 subway stations. I text him with the options and I do not hear from him the rest of the night. Ignored. I have to hound him again the next day, and his first response is "Who is this?" I'm not even on his radar, even after giving me a hard drive with no circuit board. And somehow, the 6th ave office is only a drop-off location and not a pick-up location (according to him). So I couldn't just pick my stuff up at my convenience, I had to deal with this person, not ever knowing when or if we were going to meet, having to change and hold off plans because he doesn't let me know anything until the last possible moment - just incredibly rude. And no one has ever answered when I call the 800 number. I can't tell that anyone ever listened to my messages either. A complete waste of time. Inconsiderate service, horrible communication. As of this time, I still haven't gotten my circuit board back. read more

I spoke with someone there by phone yesterday, he was super nice and professional and scheduled to pick up my computer from me the following day at work.
