I paid $6 for a Turkey sandwich (and tipped), which I admit wasn't too bad, and then I bussed my table to get close to an outlet (there's limited seats near ones during busy hours), only to be asked by the barista, "Can I get you something, we have a full house?" Translates to we're full, did you buy something??? I should've responded I just bought the overpriced sandwich!!! I didn't. Needless to say, that's never happened to me before at any other coffee shop. There's plenty of coffee shops in Austin where I don't have to worry about being asked if I bought something. This is one of the better executed coffee shops that we have visited in Austin. There is plenty of seating, different types of seating, spread out, outdoor even. The music is loud enough to blend the noises but not enough to take over your brain. We can't speak to the coffee. For us, coffee is either drinkable or not: it was fine. We didn't try the wifi which is normally important to us but other reviewers said it is fine. The only suggestion is to integrate some textile into the decor to absorb some of the background noise given all of the hard surfaces. read more

OK so I went to eat lunch here today. I ordered a curry chicken salad sandwich. It was cut in half and was delicious. The bad part is, I was almost done with one half when I found a long wirey red hair on the sandwich. It was really gross and I almost thought it was a pubic hair. Needless to say I completely lost my appetite. I brought the remaining sandwich, hair and all to the front counter. There was only one girl working the register, fixing the tea and coffee and there were a few people standing in line. I did not want to make a scene or have anyone in line hear me tell them about the hair, so I patiently waited off to the side of the front counter. A man came out of the back/kitchen area and comes to see what I need. I tell him about the hair and even show it to him. He says, he's sorry and that he will have them make me another sandwich. I told him I had lost my appetite and did not want another sandwich. He said OK and walked away. About 5-10 minutes after this happened, I saw the owner of the red, wirey, pubic-looking hair at the front counter. He was a large, tall man with red hair and a long unkempt red beard. It was a relief to know it was a beard hair and not a pube but it still sucked that I paid for such crappy service. Had dudeguy offered to refund the $8(sandwich was $6 and I stupidly pre-tipped $2) I paid for the half-eatened hair covered sandwich, I would not be posting this bad review. If he didn't want to refund my money, he should have offered me a gift certificate or something. I wonder if this is how the owner's handle these kind of things? Anyways, I am disappointed at how unprofessional they were and at the fact that they don't make their employees wear hair nets over their beards. This place had a cute atmosphere, plenty of comfortable seating, extremely amiable staff, and just a generally pleasant place to work. Unfortunately I have to dock it for it's coffee though. I haven't tried everything, but the few drinks I've had were ok at best. I haven't tried the food or the tea so I'm not reviewing those, but I do wish the coffee were better. First time here and the ambience and space was really nice! It wasn't too crowded around 9 this morning, but definitely picked up with more customers arriving and tables filling up as the morning progressed. If you need a social, busier place to work, this is a great place to do it. I really liked the baristas this morning - very friendly and the wait for my chai latte wasn't long either. Not my favorite chai latte (maybe a little above average?), but their banana chocolate chip muffin was delicious as expected, all totaling $7.50. My friend had their breakfast tacos, which she seemed to like as well. Overall, I'd definitely come again for a coffee date, although be prepared for some lines and louder atmosphere as the day goes on. read more

AHEM Lauren S One of my favorites in Austin is of course the Circa 13. I was stoked when I heard of their new location. Though not in the heart of old artsy Northloop Austin; Circa provides a nice get away, then say "ass to junk" kinda ambiance ;) Its tucked away in a booming shopping center right next to the Alamo Draft House and other cool local shops. I love the options they have for seating whether it be a table for 2, a larger area for meetings/DnD gatherings or a couch in the corner provided with lamplight intimacy to catch up on your readings or quiet discussion; which is a relief to find in the bustling city. My favorite is a seat a the bar; it opens you up to the whole cafe. If you're lucky enough to catch 'em at the right moment you can get a little one on one with the staff. My favorite peeps being Randy Jones and Tess, they are some awesome women!! And they keep the boys in line too, especially the cute one with glasses that talks too much about war movies. ;) Overall the staff are great and have acclimated well to their new home stake. The art shows they do really connect the consumer to local artists and events. It's not just a coffee shop, and I like the direction they are heading in. read more

The atmosphere is laid back, there's music playing in the background but it is a bit loud for background/study music. There are plenty of seats and outlets. Seems like a good place to study on less busy days. The day I came it was pretty packed and noisy. I got the iced mojo, which had a lot of great reviews. Maybe they were a bit off today but mine was watery but bitter, not creamy at all, and pretty sweet. It tasted kind of like artifical creamer/sweetener. read more

Their espresso is vibrant and juicy, they insist relentlessly on quality ingredients, and I have never had a negative experience with any of the staff. I really like the wide space available and it is a calm, sedate place - not crammed with noisy meetings or unsupervised children. They have organic almond milk available! I really love coming here before work to focus my thoughts or work quietly on a project. It's amazing to be here in the early hours especially, and I love having this charming little space in the neighborhood. read more

I ordered cappuccino and it was purely bad. The barista can't even make the right proportion of foam, steam milk and coffee. I'm a coffee addict and I am dissapointed with this place. I've been a regular to Epoch for about a year now, so this review isn't based on one visit: Pros: -Coffee is great. Not the best I've ever had, but definitely good. -Staff is nice and smiles all around -Wifi is really dependable -Their tables are big! If you like to spread out when you study, come here. -Usually you can find a place to sit at the tables, bar or couch -Love the hipster atmosphere and artwork Cons: -This place is COLD. I don't mean kind of chilly bring a sweater. I mean after one hour your fingers will be ice and you will be chilled to the bone despite wearing a peacoat. The best tables are lined up on the wall and the air conditioning blasts right on them. Sitting at a table that isn't on the wall helps but definitely doesn't solve the problem. Every time I come here I bring a sweater, but nine times out of ten I have to leave before I planned because I couldn't stand how cold I was. If you're a small or naturally cold person, DO NOT come here or plan to be here for more than 30 minutes. Earlier this morning it was 50 degrees outside and they still had the air conditioning on -- I left earlier than I wanted to. I really want to like coming here, especially because it's so close to my place, but I just hate how cold it is. read more

This Epoch has a nice environment and a very Austin vibe. The tea is good, it's usually fairly quiet, mostly the background music and some faint chatter of what I assume are students. I've had problems connecting to Wifi almost every time though. There are two options, one for the front, one for the back, but either way I still get problems. Overall, it's nice, and I'd be okay coming here to hang out, but studying on a laptop becomes risky with the hit or miss internet connection. read more

Since all of my other reviews on Yelp tend to be complaints (sorrynotsorry) I thought I'd give a shout out to one of my favorite spots to quaff caffeine and work. The staff is friendly, kind, and quick, the atmosphere is chill and has the paradoxical feel of an industrial space that is also and inviting. The coffee is strong and ethically sound, they have a small but decent selection of GF snacks, and even though sometimes it gets so crowded I've walked in and turned right back around to leave, mostly there is room at the inn. Their pretty authentic, homemade chai is the perfect combination of flavorful and potent but not too sweet. If you're used to a super sugary chai you might look elsewhere. I only wish they stayed open later here, like their rougher-around-the-edges sibling on North Loop. read more

I love their coffee, atmosphere, background music, and friendly staff. My only disappointment is they don't have a gluten free menu. The only thing they could offer me was fruit. Sometimes the place reminds me of a library. All the customers are sitting at their tables with their noses in their tablets, laptops, or phones rarely looking up to acknowledge the presence of other customers who would actually like to sit, chat, and drink coffee. Because of this customer "bubble space", seating is limited. It's a good thing the coffee is fantastic and the employees are fun and friendly because that is what keeps me coming back. read more
