Though service started off slow because the place was packed, we were incredibly thankful of their patience and generosity soon after. They welcomed us (and another table of customers) to stay past closing to eat more mussels and get our fill as they cleaned up since it took a while to cook each plate. Not only that, their coconut, lime, and basil sauce was delicious! My partner slumped up the first couple plates before we continued downing fries and mussels again. OK, so we saw this space school viral on Instagram about their muscles and Fritz happy hour. And it's unlimited of muscles and fries for $35 which was amazing. We definitely got a reservation because it did fill up while we were there. When I arrived, the hostess was so nice. Got me seated right away and our waiter was super attentive and patient with us because we're very picky on wine and let us sample what we liked and then we ended up getting a bottle because also the wine bottles were half off that evening. Let me tell you the muscles were delicious that sauce that they were in you can literally drink it like soup. And the french fries were so good too. They were literally addicting and you just wanted to keep eating more and more and more. I could tell you, me and my friends ordered about three rounds of muscles each. And the rosé wine that we got was so nice and definitely worth the price. As you've seen my video of the pastries, I ended up caving and getting to go a artichoke croissant and a ham and cheese croissant and OMG they were divine. I was also seated at a family style table and I didn't notice until after I left that two drinks of the other half tables drinks were on my tab. meaning the party that didn't belong too, my group ended up buying two of their drinks. Water was never refilled until desserts and their water cups are like 2 sips big. Overall, the food is OK. the pistachio gluten-free ice cream sandwich I thought was better than the beignets. The cafe was also not crowded when we went on a Saturday afternoon. Their brunch menu is fantastic! The breakfast sandwich was our favorite. Very cute little pastry restaurant! We ordered a decent spread for brunch and love the variety of food you can get we got beef tartar, potatoes, breakfast sandwich and burger. Everything was delicious but the burger was just average. The burger patties were tiny and lacked anything special to make it a good burger. The breakfast sandwich was good but the crispiness of the croissant was lost due to the grease. Tartar was creamy and we didn't get food poisoning so that's a plus! Potatoes were roasted beautifully tender but not crispy, never had roe with potatoes but there were a nice salty packets that paired well with the potatoes! This is a cozy brunch spot with a lovely atmosphere. Very cute and quaint! The white paint and wood used in their decor gave the place light tones. The natural lighting from many windows really brightened up everything too. They have a coffee and dessert bar on the right and an alcohol bar in the back. We came around noon on a Sunday and they were very busy. Would recommend arriving earlier on the weekend if you can. We looked at the menu while waiting a few minutes for a table, so we were able to order once we sat down. They were friendly and made sure we enjoyed our food. We got the Carbonara and Quiche of the Day with Salad. The Carbonara had a rich, creamy sauce that clung to the pasta well. They used small shell-shaped pasta that held more of the sauce in the crevices and ridges, a nice touch. The addition of guanchiale and parmesan gave it extra savory flavor. The freshness of the salad paired well with the Quiche. Watermelon radishes on the salad also gave it a nice pop of color and crunch. The Quiche had a great flaky crust and light silky smooth custard filled with spinach and cheese. The beignets were amazing - soft, fluffy pillows of goodness covered with lots of powdered sugar. I was so worried epicerie would be overrated, but to my pleasant surprise, it lived up to the hype! I will say, we went in the evening, so the pastries we got from the display seemed a little stale and weren't the best. But I imagine it being a lot better if you go earlier in the day when they're fresh! As for the food, I was a huge fan! My only complaint is that it's definitely pricey, especially for the portion sizes. The quiche was so delicious, so silky, so high quality! It literally jiggled when you moved the plate, that's how light and delicate it was. The salad was also really nice in delivering some acidity and freshness against the richness of the quiche. The pork shoulder was also a top favorite for me. The meat was so tender, and the fat inside was interspersed throughout, and not too jiggly that it felt like you were eating just mouthfuls of fat. The grits were so buttery, and probably the creamiest grits I've ever had. I thought the beignets were decent. Not best I've had, but still pretty good! I think I just prefer a breadier and fluffier beignet. But I do like that they provide honey to eat alongside it. We also tried the strawberry snail from the pastry case. Like stated earlier, it was a little stale just because we came later in the evening. But the flavors were good. And yeah, while expensive, the food was really good. The waitstaff comes across as rude and condescending, which makes it difficult to enjoy the meal regardless of the food quality. I did not order a meal but will be back to try other dishes outside of pastries. Spinach & Artichoke danish- delicate layers, flaky, filling is not too heavy, aromatic and just the right amount of cheese so you can taste the artichoke and beautifully toasted basil leaf too. Almond croissant almost has a grilled or smoke essence to it, which I appreciate. This is a very unique almond croissant more on the nutty warm side than your traditional sweet sugary almond extract flavor. Lemon poppyseed danish- ooooh baby this was the winner for me, but I am a sucker for anything lemon. What impressed me most is their ability to keep the pastry fresh and flaky without getting soggy from the curd, truly a masterpiece. A fun take on a lemon poppy seed muffin but puffy pastry style. Babkassant- this was probably my least favorite due to being too sweet and after all the home runs with above mentioned pastries this just didn't do it for me. Our waiter was very patient as me and my friend took some time deciding what to order; there was just so many mouth watering options to choose from! I ended up getting the quiche, which was a generous portion and extremely well made. I would definitely get it again. I've been a fan of this place for awhile, even before they kinda blew up and started getting (rightfully) noticed for their food. I still think their beignets are the best in the city. But my last visit was a bit disappointing. The main reason was the service. We were seated and helped by Madeline. After we were seated she came to give us water and "give us a few minutes". That few minutes was closer to 15 or 20 by my estimation. We watched as she went around to check on and help a few other tables around us (some who were even seated after us) while never coming back to check on us or to take our order. I know she saw us because she glanced at our table several times. On multiple occasions when she walked by us to grab a check or help a table next to us I was like "surely she'll stop by this time". Nope. It finally got to the point where we had to literally walk up to HER while she was standing around to tell her we were ready. She must have known we were not happy because for almost the rest of the entire meal we barely saw her again. Our food was brought out by other folks and a DIFFERENT server who was not ours was the one that came by to see how we were doing and if there was anything else we needed. Again, I know Madeline was around because we saw her checking up on her other tables, just not ours. We didn't see her again until the very end when it was time to get our check. The only reason I left a normal tip was because of the OTHER staff that helped us out that were perfectly lovely. Other small gripes: $21 for a modest size French onion soup that I ordered for an appetizer is absurd. My burger and fries was less than that. The food itself was good and everyone else enjoyed what they ordered. I'm sure I'll be back, but if the services continues to be at this level then that may change. read more

Épicerie has been on my Austin list for over 2 years, and I finally got the chance to try while celebrating my sister's birthday! While we waited on everyone to arrive, we got an order of frites that were cooked to perfection. My espresso martini was excellent, and my husband's Frozen Pimm cup was so good and refreshing in the Texas heat, it became my 2nd drink order. For my entree, I got the friend green tomato sandwich which is served with shrimp salad on a focaccia bread. I DEVOURED this sandwich. It was soo perfect, I stuffed myself as to not waste a crumb. My husband's pastrami was also the best I've ever they have. They in-house smoke the meat which is front and center and makes for an unforgettable variation to a Reuben. Epicerie never ceases to provide us with delicious meals. On this visit, we split the Royal Corona Beans, Steak Frites, and Pork Shoulder. The beans were really simple and tasted like a bowl of peasant comfort. I say that as a 100% positive thing. It's a dish I can picture my grandma making and we enjoyed it. The Steak Frites was fantastic albeit a hair on the undercooked side for us. We ordered it mid-rare and it was closer to rare. That said, we would prefer under to over any day of the week. It was still delicious, especially with the black garlic-bone marrow butter. Holy cow was that butter amazing. The fries were nice and crunchy and came with a really light aioli. Finally, the Pork Shoulder was to die for. I don't know where they source their pork from, but it was the porkiest pork we've ever had AND it was perfectly cooked. I almost skipped the pastry case during this visit back to Austin but am glad I did not! While I missed the Apple Miso Fritters, I had the chance to try the Tiramisu Leaf and it exceeded my expectations. It's not a new concept but the execution was exquisite. The flavors were spot on, not to sweet, not over the top. Cleverly, there was actually some kind of coffee soaked sponge tucked inside that carried the coffee/liqueur flavor surprisingly well, even though one wouldn't intuit including that kind of texture. So well done. I also tried the beignets right out of the fryer which were also fantastic, not too sweet, and light/fluffy with a generous dusting of powdered sugar. I did think the Cinnamon Shortbread leaned a bit too tender, falling apart too easily to be practical and the light dusting of cinnamon sugar on top wasn't enough to carry a convincing cinnamon flavor.
