I had a combo plate of food in my hand that my lady bought for me (she works there) as I'm walking out of the store there's a gentleman at the door just staring at me. Ignoring everyone else around him and as I'm walking towards the door I'm stuffing the receipt into my back pocket. Stepping towards with his hands out as if he was reaching for my plate he asked me if I had a sticker on the box, didn't ask anyone else around him. As I was eating outside I noticed the people around me didnt have stickers on their items, people walking out of the store had no stickers and they weren't being stopped or questioned. I'm also Latino, noticeably Latino. Feeling disappointed in the customer service I felt and I know I was racially profiled. When I asked for a manager to speak to, Eddie came out . When Eddie came out I asked to speak with him outside to talk about my experience, he immediately shuts me down letting me now that what I feel is not valid. He told me you were not racially profiled 4 times. After I told him that I'm the one that experienced it how are you gonna tell me no, he said I saw it in the cameras he did not racially profile you telling me that we sticker every plate of food thats gets sold. And I told him there's been many times that I've bought things from Erewhon and never have they given me a sticker. And when I told him I looked around my table to see who had food, nobody around had stickers on them and people walking out didnt either. When I told him there's people out there with no stickers he immediately shut me down again and said that wouldn't happen we sticker everything. When I told him we can go down and take 5 steps and see who has a sticker he tells me I'm not going to do that. When I asked to speak with someone else above him he said to call Richie. When I told him it's very awful for you to say to me, that I didn't experience being racially profiled when no one else around me had stickers or were being questioned he tells me to my face I never told you that, I only said he never took a step towards you. I tell him you literally just told me I wasn't being racially profiled his response was okay have a good night and walked away from me. Imagine how many other people of color have gone through this. Tonight there is this staff who is an older male slightly darker skin wandering around by the glass window wall around the cosmetics shampoo etc section with the other staffs. They were chitchatting loudly hiding in deck corner all along the whole time. so this particular dark skin older male staff was super rude. I was originally asking a white female staff about a product at the cosmetic/shampoo section., before the female staff was able to provide me with answer, that slightly darker skin older male staff just walk right pass behind my back to my front hitting my left shoulder, sliding rubbing through my left side body to to my front cutting in the middle between me and that white female staff and just disrespectfully cut into and interrupt the conversation casually chitchatting with the female staff whom I was asking question to, so rude, I was like so startled as I just cannot believe what had just happened and also was like processing what had just happened. Did that mail stuff rubbing my left side body and hitting my left shoulder moving to my front from my back and just cut into the middle of the conversation between me and the female staff and what is more ridiculous. is that the female staff just naturally casually responding to this staff in the middle of our conversation and just simply ignoring me and care less to my question, just like treating me as transparent all of a sudden, in the middle of a conversation and shifting to the joy of chatting with the other staffs especially this rude staff just hit me from my back. They act so naturally as if nothing wrong just happened and they keep chi chatting the whole time joking around etc. So rude. I have to move elsewhere and fetch another staff from the cashier to answer my questions instead, and when I turn my head stare back to that corner, that female staff and male staff, and some other staff were like crowding around hiding in that cosmetic section corner and keep chatting loudly laughing among each other as If this is not a supermarket that they are working for but rather a social cocktail event they are just there having fun chatting around, ignoring customers questions and even rudely hitting the customers from behind, cutting in front treating all right and normal. After recently viewing a viral video involving this market, I am compelled to express my deep disappointment and concern over the behavior exhibited by its staff. The footage depicts a disturbing encounter in which a customer attempts a simple act of kindness--paying for a homeless individual's meal along with his own--only to be met with hostility and outright refusal of service. Rather than acknowledging the customer's compassion, the market's employees not only denied him his purchase but went so far as to issue a trespass notice against him. This reaction is not only unjustified but morally indefensible. It sends a chilling message that human decency and empathy are unwelcome at this establishment. Even more troubling is a separate video allegedly showing an employee--either current or former--engaging in physical violence against the same individual. This is a great store. I believe I was an original shopper when it first came to LA. If you are Macrobiotic, this is is the only place to shop. Once or twice a month, I load up and wherever we are, we have all the food and supplies we need. The staff is excellent, knowledgeable and friendly. The ambiance is exactly what it has always been - cool, respectful and really great. Cannot recommend this enough. I do have an issue with the regular guy who sits outside, leaves his left over trash all over his eating place (and sits right next to the trash can!) as he r***es women with his eyes. I'm going to call the manager in a second and will update this review by the end of the day. In the meantime, I will leave a picture of his mess so you the manager and you (a customer) can see. I will take it down once this is resolved. His bad behavior is not a reflection on the company, though, and I'm sure they are unaware that this is going on! If you are a woman, however, and under 35 (unlike me!) be on the lookout for the pig who eats outside between 12:30 and 2:00. The clean, well-stocked shelves and high-quality selections really stood out. It's definitely a high-end grocery store, but worth every bit for the experience and the amazing products they offer. Do not shop here. This store caught someone shoplifting a $15 burrito. Another customer paid for the burrito in hopes that they would not have the shoplifter arrested for stealing food. They don't care about somebody waiting and last week I go over there to pick the food.
