To be fair, I tried to check out B Hills but it was chaotic af, I was doing a test drive and didn't want anything to happen to the car trying to find parking so I said screw it. This may be as close as I get and that's fine. I know it's a photo op for many, but this is my market of choice. I truly am a fan. Thankfully parking was easier here, I got a spot by the door and went in. Given that it was a Sunday, I appreciated it. I know it's the OG so it's nice to finally pay my respects. Understandably the layouts a bit different and I'm here for it. I'm not used to seeing the soup right by the door. I got some broccoli at the hot bar I'd never seen before, yum! I wish I saw it more. Store was clean as always, staff was kind, loads of people as always, but I didn't need priority checkout bc the line was nonexistent when I checked out. Now that they've been around for a number of years, it's a well known fact that Erewhon is as famous for their celebrity endorsed smoothies as they are notorious for their astronomical prices. If a trip to Whole Foods earns them the nickname "Whole Paycheck", Erewhon will probably cost you your monthly rent. And yet, like a moth to a flame, I couldn't help but make a trip here to check out their wildly popular (and expensive) smoothies! Wandering through the aisles, Erewhon has all of the basics you would expect to find at a market, but a lot of the brands they carry aren't the typical mainstream ones you'll find at most other supermarkets. In a sense, they're like the Whole Foods of Whole Foods, as they almost exclusively feature premium/luxury brands that position themselves as being more "health focused". While that sort of claim can be relative (e.g. lower calories, but higher sodium), there's no question that the quality of their fresh produce, meats, and seafood definitely looked pretty legit, with a lot of products that are organic, free-range, cage-free, hormone-free, etc. As for the aforementioned smoothies that so many folks both praise and complain about, they're made fresh to order from their tonic bar that sits in the middle store - easy to find, but inconvenient to navigate past. With over a dozen different pre-set flavors/combinations to choose from, along with the option to customize and/or create your own, the menu has so much to offer. What's more, if you aren't in the mood for one of their smoothies, they also have freshly pressed juices, coffees, and teas. Even though their Strawberry Glaze Smoothie is easily their most popular smoothie (and best, according to Hailey Bieber), we opted to try their MALIBU MANGO SMOOTHIE ($21) instead. Based purely on taste, this actually wasn't too shabby - It had a nice punch of mango flavor and the consistency was smooth with just the right thickness to it. Plus, I liked how creamy both the texture and taste was and how it wasn't overly sweet. That being said, after tax/tip, did it taste $28 good? No. Although there wasn't anything inherently "bad" with this, it didn't taste all that different from the one I can get by my place in SF that costs me less than half as much. Despite how expensive the smoothie was, which at least I was already prepared for, the thing that really took us by surprise was how long it took for it to be made. Granted, this location might be an outlier, as its proximity to The Grove probably contributes to the number of people that were here, but I never would've guessed we'd have to wait almost half an hour for our order. Since I don't live anywhere near an Erewhon, I can't say if/when I would come back, but I certainly wouldn't entirely rule it out, as I liked the smoothie we got and I'm genuinely curious about the Strawberry Glaze one as well as some of their prepared foods. However, for how much it would set me back, it'll probably have to come after the next time I get a bonus or a raise so I can feel a little better about the splurge. Four stars for taste and the quality of what Erewhon has, but two stars, at best, for value, so three it is. read more

Although I wanted to be a hater, I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed exploring Erewhon and guzzling down the strawberry glaze smoothie. It is a bit surreal being in a grocery store where the mean/median/mode price of something is 10x what it'd be at a normal shop. There's a parking garage right next to this location, but there was also a good amount of street parking nearby. Staff was very friendly! I got an 8 oz. jar of the Summit Trail Mix, which I really liked! It's not too salty and the dried fruits complimented the almonds so well. Enjoyed it so much that I kinda wish I opted for the bigger jar. Also, on top of the already steep price, there's a $3 bottle deposit. Since it was my first time here, the cashier let me know that you can get your deposit back if you bring the bottles/jars back to the store. After making my trail mix purchase, I got the strawberry glaze smoothie. My smoothie was ready pretty quickly. I'm not a big strawberry-flavor lover, but I really enjoyed this smoothie. The flavor is so different and interesting. I love the salad kits that Erewhon preps. lol and when I go there I'm always singing cause they play the jams. It's super crowded and the layout doesn't help with flow of customer traffic. Everyone is huddled by the drink bar and it's actually very unsafe. I do understand that this particular location is close to The Grove so it was not a fair representation of staff under normal conditions, however, not a single employee looked even remotely friendly. I could assume that the high volume of tourists and locals using the aisles as a selfie spot could be annoying so I tried to be understanding. I finally got to visit one of the infamous Erewhon locations with my best friend, and it was definitely an interesting experience. Being a Long Beach native, I never would've known this bougie grocery store even existed if it weren't for the foodie influencers I watch on YouTube. I'd especially seen videos about their $20+ smoothies, so I knew I had to try one of these obnoxiously overpriced beverages when I visited lol. As expected, the store was pretty packed upon arrival. While people bustled around the establishment, we made our way to the smoothie stand. Fortunately, they offer kiosks where you can conveniently place your order. As we waited for our smoothies, we took the opportunity to roam around the store. I started to understand the appeal of Erewhon; they offer an impressive array of health products and foods. From sea moss gels to organic items and supplements, they seem to have it all. If I were a wealthy health fanatic living nearby, I could see myself coming here occasionally. On the other hand, if you're more of a minimalist or someone who isn't into organic health products, a visit here might feel unnecessary and overpriced. We made our way back to the smoothie stand once I received a text message that our smoothies were ready. I had ordered a chocolate smoothie, and my bestie got a matcha one. While I appreciated the appeal of it being a healthy option, mine tasted rather strong and slightly bitter for a chocolate flavor. We decided to grab a little snack to pair with our drinks. I went for the banana chocolate bread, and my friend chose the chocolate chip cookies. The cashier came across as snobby; she didn't greet us or even mention the price of our sweets. Look, I debated whether this even deserved a review. But here we are. Erewhon is less a grocery store and more a lifestyle statement for people who want to be seen making lifestyle statements. The smoothie bar line is populated roughly 80% by people who saw it on someone's feed, cannot afford this on any kind of regular basis, and are here purely for the content. I include my daughter in this demographic, and I say that with love. She wanted the smoothie. She got the smoothie. Twenty one dollars. I watched her face carefully as she took the first sip. She is a good sport, I will give her that. The dedication to maintaining a positive expression in the face of what can only be described as expensive, vaguely flavored pudding of mysterious ingredients was genuinely impressive. You could tell exactly how much she loved it by how enthusiastically she offered to share it with everyone in the family. She did not ask for it back. Not once. I had been expecting $21 to produce something that would recalibrate my entire smoothie reference point. Instead it tasted like someone blended wellness buzzwords into a cup and forgot to add flavor. Crossed off the list. The hype machine is real, the smoothie is not. At least I now have an opinion based on actual evidence rather than someone's Instagram grid. My daughter has already moved on to the next thing. As she should. Was gonna be 0 stars - but its not allowed, so I added the star, as the service in this place is great and they are all very friendly. We parked a wee bit away, to get some steps in, and made our way to the lovely building. The place was busy, but not annoyingly although it being a Sunday early afternoon, which was nice! I didn't really explore the full store, but let's be real - is it overpriced? Absolutely? Overhyped? Sure. That being said, the food was fresh and the food was healthy, healthy and clean ingredients. The food was also very yummy. We tried a plethora of items: OBVIOUSLY the famous Strawberry Glaze Skin Smoothie, Gluten Free Mac & Cheese, Old School Mac & Cheese, Garlic Chicken, The Garlic Glass Noodles, and lastly my favorite; Grilled Buffalo Cauliflower. This was about $60 for a "sample" size (or at least that is what I asked for) for all food items, and that includes the Smoothie. The smoothie was $21. Guys, this was creamy, fresh, healthy, and absolutely delicious. Will I get it again? Probably not. $21 for a smoothie is WILD. I will say, $10-15 in LA, okay, I get it! $21? Come on. Still delicious so you can make that choice. Both of the Mac & Cheese styles were great, the Gluten Free, you'd never know. So good. The Old School was creamy and yummy. The Garlic Chicken (I believe it was a thigh?), was really good. Super flavorful and perfectly cooked. The Glass Noodles were good for sure, but could have been a bit more flavorful. I would have added a Sriracha or Soy Sauce? Lastly, my favorite! The Buffalo Cauliflower. I love how it was not fried - it was grilled I assume, perfectly spicy (but not too spicy). A highly questionable experience recently at this Erewhon location: I bought myself some (wildly overpriced) flowers, and 24 hours later they are close to dead - see photo attached. For almost forty bucks, flowers SHOULD NOT be almost dead one day after purchase. I contacted the store and actually got a helpful manager. Strangely, when I told her of the condition of the flowers, she suggested that this happened because of the placement of their flowers just inside the door, they are constantly exposed to temperature extremes and this is probably why they die so quickly. Like this explanation makes expensive dead-within-a-day-expensive-flowers somehow OK? LITERALLY: How could a customer know this? And since Erewhon knows this, why not fix the problem, or let buyers know, or move the flowers, or lower the price because of the issue? And here is a TRULY BIZARRE thing: When I go to the store to get a refund, the cashier says that the ORIGINAL SALES TAX I PAID CANNOT BE REFUNDED. Is this even legal to keep the money I paid for sales tax, and only refund the price? I have never ever seen this at ANY business. This is beyond legally questionable - just never done. I visited this Erewhon location after seeing their smoothie advertisement at another branch earlier this week, and I was really excited to try it. Unfortunately, by the time I got to that other store, it had already closed, so today I decided to stop by this one, which is on a corner near The Grove and the permanent Farmers Market super busy area, especially on weekends. Parking is tough; there's no assigned lot, so I actually parked in a public park nearby, which is free! definitely a lifesaver since the street parking is a pain. Once inside, I was hit by how crowded it was: no room to even move. The security guard was super friendly and helped direct me to the ordering counter, where I got two smoothies: strawberry and coconut. But honestly, I was pretty disappointed. There was a line of about 20 people waiting, and after all that hype, and waiting around 15 minutes in the line, the smoothies were just okay!!!totally ordinary. The quality was fine, but $21 for a smoothie that doesn't stand out just feels way overpriced. I can't deny that the staff were fantastic, but this place just feels like it's riding on hype and branding, not actual value. Like many people, I had only heard of Erewhon via social media either for it being the most expensive healthy grocery store chain or for the impressive smoothie bar in all of the locations serving up juices, tonics, and smoothies, including celebrity tie-in ones. When I used to live in California, I had never set foot in one as most of their locations are concentrated around LA area. This time when I was visiting The Grove and Farmer's Market, my family stopped in to check it out. They have their own parking garage connected to the store. Security directs cars to available spaces in an effort to making parking more efficient. They had baked goods, hot food, the smoothie/juice bar, produce, frozen, and shelf stable food. They carry their own name-brand products and some other brands like Back to Nature, Cocojune, etc. True to what folks say online, the prices are higher than what you'll find in bigger chain stores. I would say it's not a bad option for those with specific dietary restrictions or those who can afford a more premium healthy grocery experience, but it's definitely not for everyone. The smoothie bar was very popular and often a lot of folks come here for the smoothies, including the Hailey Bieber one. I got in line and asked the gal at the counter what she would recommend as I was between 2 smoothie options. She felt it was best for my first choice to go with the Hailey Bieber one. They texted me when my order was ready, which was only a minute or two. The folks behind the smoothie bar have a good process down in terms of getting orders fulfilled and out to the customers in a timely manner. The famous smoothie made popular by Hailey Bieber is also one of the more expensive options on the menu. Flavor was a little sweeter than the smoothies I make at home, but I suspect it's due to the ingredients they used. Presentation was pretty, but I would say it was more of a fun experience once in a while. Did the smoothie improve my skin per the claims? I would say jury's out on that one, but it was a fun experience trying it. read more

I ordered a tote bag from Erewhon that arrived with visible bleach stains. When I contacted customer service to report the damage, I was told that what I was seeing was simply a 'natural variation in the canvas,' which was completely false and frankly insulting. Rather than acknowledging the defective item, they doubled down, insisted all sales were final, and made it clear they had no intention of helping me. After five attempts to get any form of resolution, I was essentially told I was stuck with a damaged product. It was only after I threatened to write a review that they offered an exchange, which I declined. At that point, a refund was the only acceptable resolution given the experience I had been put through. For a brand that charges premium prices and markets itself as a luxury experience, the customer service protocols and quality assurance are appalling. Being gaslit over an obvious defect on a $160 item is not the standard I expected from Erewhon. Buyer beware, if your order arrives damaged, don't expect them to take responsibility. read more

The food is always great, fresh and clean. The people are very helpful if you are searching for something. The unique items are my fave plus salads and the liquid vitamin aisles. I don't know if it's just this store but it seemed so much more affordable a year ago, which makes me less anxious coming with the kids! Smoothies are great but can be TOO sweet! That's got to come with a magic juice that makes me youthful forever. And a $60 USD candle? I can buy a whole house for that price! If you haven't heard of Erewhon yet you may be living under a rock. Erewhon is so on brand with a certain LA stereotype, haling itself as the grocery designer store. Forget keeping up with the Joneses; we're here to clobber them. When you go inside you are transported into a different world. The smell of a higher tax bracket is in the air, mixed with candles of unicorns and aura crystals. Jokes aside, at least this location is slightly bigger and more modern than most so it's not as cramped, though it still kind of is. They've definitely elevated the ordinary grocery store experience to something; don't want to be confused and mixed up with the poors and too-commercial whole foods shoppers, you know? Depending on when you go, anywhere between 10 and 50 percent of shoppers are just there for the food court, mostly to have the honor to have their lips blessed by those bougie $20+ smoothies. If you went to Erewhon and didn't get a Hailey Bieber smoothie, did you even go? Jokes on us because they have such strong brand recognition, they are probably charging their suppliers an inclusion fee to proudly list them as part of the ingredients. Not many can boast the same level of cultural cachet. The staff is extremely friendly and likely underwent intense training which surely prepared them to masterfully deal with any do-you-know-who-l-am Karen and diffuse the situation by assuring them they are indeed the most important person in the world. As a bonus, you'll get to practice your valley girl accent, like oh my god like literally no joke, I'm so dead right now... So you may be asking if those smoothies are worth the exorbitant prices but that would be the wrong question. Going back to the analogy with designer brands - many charge not based on how much it costs to make the garment but what the market would bear; the price is not so much a byproduct of the means of production but the main deterrent helping to weed out the other in order to form the it crowd (some may call it the fan base, others a cult). So when someone is rocking the $150+ Erewhon tote bag, it's not because they thought it cost more than $15 to produce but because having it is used a signal to others about their status and values. read more

Erewhon near The Grove is definitely a well-designed and curated market. The store is clean, visually appealing, and offers a wide range of specialty and organic products you don't easily find elsewhere. However, the pricing is extremely high and hard to justify for everyday items. Seeing things like raw milk priced around $20 and ice balls close to $30 feels excessive, even considering the premium branding and sourcing. While it's interesting to browse, it's not very practical for regular grocery shopping. Overall, it's a cool experience and worth checking out once, but the value doesn't quite match the cost. Ok believe the hype is all I can say. I went for lunch and it was a quick in and out. I will say the smoothie station had a line I didn't want to wait in so I opt'd out. I spent about $40 on lunch which to me wasn't that bad. Everything was so tidy and well organized it was easy to find what I needed. As for the food I had the mac and cheese, super greens, and chicken! So good! Fresh taste, friendly service, free valet, and they gave me water while I waited on my car! read more

The service for the tonic bar is alaways slow. Doesn't matter if they have a short line or a long line. If you order a drink in person be ready to wait close to 30minutes minimum if 20 if you're lucky. You would think that they would prioritize in person orders instead of online orders or third party orders but no. Learnt my lesson. Will never get a drink here again. I ordered my smoothie from the app and as we got closer to the store, my husband suggested we park a few blocks away and walk. It was the best decision. The traffic to get in the store and parking was back up and horrible. When we got inside the store, it was very busy Sat afternoon. Employees were not smiley or friendly. No sign to tell where to pick up your online order. After I asked someone, I waited for the cashier and the lady went to get my drink from a nearby fridge. My husband thought it was a good idea because my drink was kept cold and fresh. I ordered Coconut Cloud smoothie with no modification and it was so tasty.
