by Mark on Mar 24th, 2015 It honestly takes a lot for me to write a bad review, I always try to see things from more than my prospective so I usually don't complain about much , but this experience really left a terrible taste in my mouth and I felt I needed to share to help avoid any other prospective patients falling for the same thing I did by reading some of these reviews, which BTW I now question the validity of. Read the bad reviews FIRST guys, you can see most of us have a common thread to our complains, but now I will share my experience. I am on Workers Comp, I had been trying to find a Dr who could really evaluate what was going on with my Lower Back , Wrist and Shoulder. After much searching I came across this person with such glowing reviews , completely ignoring the negative ones because the good ones sounded so good. My Nurse Case Manager made the appointment and confirmed that this Dr Millstein treats lower backs as well as other ailments, I was looking forward to meeting this Dr and all I can say is that the bad reviews I read were in fact more true than anything, nothing about the "positive" reviews was anywhere near present on this day. I came into the Dr's office where I was telling him my nightmare journey with Workers Comp and how I came to find him hoping he could help me. First thing he told me is that he does NOT do backs, which is not what me nor my nurse case manager was told. Secondly he said he no longer is going to be doing Workers Comp cases. Great so now what? Me and my nurse case manager both showed his the results of both my back and shoulder. My MRI of my lower back showed Degenerative Disc Disease and it had advanced in the last few years, it was causing me excruciating pain for weeks and two Dr's I had seen previously (both Ortho's btw) said I should not be working for 30 days and prescribed physical therapy . Unfortunately neither of those Dr were under my Workers Comp list of providers , hence I went looking for a Dr that really knew what he was doing. He took an Xray of my wrist and said nothing was wrong at all. Then looked at my MRI results of my shoulder (it clearly showed an injury) and he brushed it off as "no big deal" then moving along to my back , he said it showed some degeneration but that he had several other patients who were older than me and had many more ailments and were able to work and manage regardless. First of all, you cannot compare one patient with all the others, every patient should be tended to as an individual with their own concerns, not lumped into a category of "if they can do it so can you" . He said he didn't mean to diminish my ailments but he was releasing me back to work on full duty. I've been working 13 years for my current employer, I rarely take sick time or vacation so I am not a lazy person, if this was about me just wanting to take a "paid vacation" trust me, I have the vacation time to do it, the point was that I was in pain and I was injured and if I can't work then so be it, but when I go looking for help from a professional to give me a professional comprehensive exam I expect better. So he doesn't even do backs or spine yet he has the superiority to tell me that my back and shoulder were no big deal. I am in the process of finding another Dr at this point but I must let anyone who is reading that someone with such arrogance and ego should not be practicing medicine. Read the other reviews both good and bad, you will see common complaints from other patients. My two cents. Doctors Oath - "First do no harm" Update: my response to the Dr's reply to my previous post. Dr Millstein, you had an opportunity to make things right when I was in your office and had my MRI's in hand. Now it's too little too late . Someone like you does not deserve to carry a medical license in my opinion . If you really cared you would have done the right thing from the start. If anyone is reading this please take from my experience and stay away from this imbecile . Seriously one of the worst experiences with any medical provider. read more

After having been misdiagnosed by three different doctors I spent two years in severe pain with limited mobility and acute tendonitis in my right arm. After describing my symptoms and an examination, Dr. Millstein immediately said I had a torn rotator cuff and ordered an MRI. His diagnosis was perfect, and then, rather than send me to surgery he suggested starting with a conservative approach using physical therapy for both the shoulder and a torn knee cartilage. I was not convinced that it would help, but even now, a year after having completed the therapy, the tendonitis is gone, I have almost full mobility in my arm and the knee problems are no longer bothering me. I cannot recommend Dr. Millstein highly enough, and truly appreciate the time he took to make a thorough and accurate assessment and his avoiding surgery unless absolutely necessary. read more

Dr. Millstein is an amazing Ortho physician. He took his time to go over my knee injury with me. He was calm, well mannered, and listened to my complaints as he examined me. My injury wasn't as bad as I thought, but I highly recommend him for any Orthopaedic issue you guys may have. I have referred family members to him as well. read more

I admire Dr. Millstein and his work. He took care of my ACL and meniscus after a freak kick boxing accident. It's been about 2 years and I'm good as new, if not better. I'm back to squatting, kicking, and doing Spartan Races! I highly recommend him for athletes who want a Dr. who understands your active lifestyle. Wonderful doctor! Friendly, efficient, knowledgeable, skilled, responsive, and respectful. Dr. Millstein operated on my torn meniscus. When discussing the problem and possible solutions, Dr. Millstein thoroughly answered all of my questions and encouraged me to get a second opinion. When I had a follow up question after my appointment, his clinic's on-call service was able to address my concern. When the time came for surgery (which Dr. Millstein was able to schedule promptly), Dr. Millstein was a pro. Afterwards, he showed me, through images, exactly what he had done. I went to see Dr. Millstein for a meniscus tear that needed repair and had about as positive a surgical experience as one can hope for. I was back on my feet within a few days of the procedure, with minimal swelling and no pain. In short, a terrific outcome. Aside from being a great surgeon, Dr. Millstein is personable, caring, and runs a great office. They got me in for appointments with minimal wait time, were very accommodating regarding the surgical center where I needed (for insurance reasons) to schedule my procedure, and made sure that I had the necessary equipment for a quick and full recovery. I'd go back to Dr. Millstein without hesitation if I'm ever faced with anything like this again. read more

Dr Millstein is an excellent doctor. I have seen him for a range of problems over the past 5-6 years including hip, knee and related issues. He's direct and explains things clearly -- and is never condescending! I frequently recommend him to friends and colleagues. Additionally, his staff at the front desk and the technicians are all friendly, professional and efficient. Recently, the front desk found a way to squeeze me in for an appointment because I was experiencing pain, even though the schedule was unusually packed as Dr Millstein had been in vacation. Luckily I do not know Dr. Millstein from a patient perspective (knock wood). However, as a physical therapist and owner of Evolution Physical Therapy, I have had the pleasure of working with many of his patients. Over the years I have had the opportunity to work with many physicians and orthopedic surgeons and I can say with great confidence that Dr. Millstein is among the best. If any of my family or I needed an orthopedic consultation, he would be the one we'd go to without hesitation. From a professional perspective, I appreciate that he does not rush into surgery which is a real breath of fresh air. He encourages other conservative methods of treatment prior to surgery. His diagnostic skills are great and all the patients we treat appreciate his bed-side manner. Without exception, every patient feels that Dr Millstein genuinely cares for their health and takes time to explain procedures and answer all questions. This fact alone sets him far above many other clinicians. When surgery is in fact indicated, his skills are remarkable. His patients recover very quickly from surgeries and outcomes are exceptional. He is also an active physician and he understands the mentality of patients who are eager to return to sports and active lifestyles. Dr. Millstein is a brilliant doctor and an incredible person. I had my elbow smashed and he gave me a replacement. It was uncertain if I would ever have full rotation again, but here I am 4 years later with full rotation, my scar is fading fast, and I am playing piano and guitar. With a full joint replacement, I do and will always have some pain and soreness, but I believe that Dr. Millstein minimized the seriousness of my situation. He was so kind, generous, personal and truly caring. I've never experienced such care and I cannot recommend anyone more. read more

I'm amending my review because of the long waits I've experienced in the office. This last time I was kept waiting an hour--an inexcusable length of time. Looking back, I realize I've always been kept waiting at least 20 minutes, and often as much as 45. Although Dr. Millstein apologized, these delays say a lot about his attitude--and that of his staff, who were whooping it up in the outer office--towards patients. An aged athlete who refuses to give up, I suffered a knee injury that proved to be a turn meniscus. After consulting with friends who'd had bad experiences with other orthopods who, though good doctors, forced them to wait for hours and in general didn't seem to care, I found Dr. Millstein. On my three visits to Dr. Millstein's office, I never waited more than five minutes. He could not have been more cordial and friendly. My operation and recovery went like clockwork with limited pain and discomfort. Two months later I am athleticizing in full swing, wondering if I'll start training for a triathlon. Life being what it is, and me being who I am, I expect I'll have another injury one day; and I won't hesitate to have Dr. Millstein deal with it. read more

This is a long overdue update to my initial review. The issue with their dropping of my insurance company without notifying me and then billing for the uninsured injections was completely resolved by their billing office. The entire amount charged to me was removed from their books, and I received an apology for their missing to notify me of the change of insurance. Over the past few years I have had more than enough time spent with doctors that at this point ? I feel I should have my own degree. After seeing this guy?... I feel thats hold even more truth since he did absolutely nothing for me ! I went to Dr. Millstein for a second opinion as I didn't agree with another office about the direction of care to a knee injury as well as a shoulder injury. The first time I saw Dr. Millstein, he seemed like the straight forward type. Don't expect to feel like you are talking to a doctor who wants to take his time with you and care. I could of dealt with that provided he could get me back to health and give me direction and sound credible. However, after a few visits in a month? After this visit? Its abundantly clear that this is a typical case of "there's nothing wrong with you but give me your money" . This guy as said on the website of HIS says the following; "Dr. Millstein specializes in knee, shoulder & sports medicine injuries. Regardless of your injury, Dr. Millstein will help you get back to performing the activities you love as quickly as possible." "Regardless of your injury" ...... Apparently NOT since this guy can't take the time to tell me what my options really are. He's inconsistent and doesn't care. He just sits there on his chair with his lap top (doing God knows what) and can't answer basic questions about healing time. The doctor himself in a recent visit says to me "Im just a surgeon". Well why then does it say on your website that you specialize in the injuries I have and that you can get me back to health? This guy couldn't even answer BASIC questions regarding how long it would take to heal, what the next steps were, ect... Who gave this guy a degree ???? This place is a waste of your time and your money, like pretty much all LA doctors. Don't bother ! read more

I had terrible pain in my right should from years of arthritis in my joints. Dr. Milstein performed surgery that replaced my entire shoulder. That was a year ago and I am now pain free. Dr Millstein was nice enough to see me on an emergency basis today. His office is very nice and really clean, and runs in a seamless manner. Very calm and efficient. The office provides state of the art equipment. Dr Millstein is very personable and was very patient with me during my appointment. Dr. Millstein : Babyboomer Athletes Best Friend. Dr. Millstein's no nonsense approach to evaluating my knee problem (swelling from past surgeries), resulted in a spot-on diagnosis. No knee replacement needed (as other Dr's have suggested). He simply said," You dont need me - you need good Physical Theropy." Millstein directed me to his website and suggested me to use one of his Theropists. Following his instructions, a Theropist was chosen. The rest is history. Today I received probably the worst news an athlete could have expected on a first visit - a potential Rotator Cuff tear (needs further diagnosis via MRI). The positive is I felt I was dealing with a total professional, nice, human who understood that, though in my 40's, I am still a competitive athlete who just wants to continue doing what I love. No lectures, no obvious impatience with my chosen lifestyle, etc. He introduced himself as Eric (i of couse said nice to meet you Dr....) and then walked me through what he saw at this point in my examination - explained on his iPad (yes the dude is tech savvy) how the rotator cuff is comprised, its function, and why I am feeling the pain I do. In the midst of all this potential bad news, I felt comforted, his staff was top notch, facilities clean etc... Yes I have an MRI to go - maybe surgery (maybe not!!!) but all I can say is if you are in the same boat I am, don't muck around, call his office, go see him - then make your decisions based on what you learn. Oh and though I saw him in Beverly Hills I was in and out in an hour... Lovely. read more

Dr Millstein is Awesome! Amazing Down to earth yet maintain a complete professional bedside manor. Got Cut off on my Motorcycle by someone who tried to cheat & turn right into me (from a Left Turn Only Lane)... Tore My ACL, went to the good Doc! Made everything easy for an Ex-Jock Football head like myself, and the best part, gave me some options to think about(esp because i would miss a significant amount of time from work). Staff is Awesome! From the Lovely Ladies in the Front Desk, Awesome Lady who always takes my vitals, history, & if i have any new issues/questions. Prep for Sugery day...The Surgery Coordinator & anyone else you may need to reach, not only give u a easy to understand packet, but are there to answer any questions/emails. From my experience emails are fastest to get a response (love it becuase i am one to forget things if its not written down or in a email) Surgery Day was a breeze! Had the normal before surgery Jitters, but the good Doc & Medical staff. Made it very calm, informed so i had no surprises. Woke up, some month or so later, actually saw the "scars" & as time passed it healing, and to my Awesome Suprise, it seriously looked like a small scratch. Like I have Scars from when i was little that look more like surgery scars than the awesome work Dr. Millstein did. Yes, I am a satisfied, happy, & will be a life long pt if i ever(knock on wood) get a injury. I would Highly Recommend any One I love & care about to Dr. Millstein. Also, If you have see him at Century City location, give yourself Exxxxxtra time to go through the underground parking (if you're running late make sure to make a call Before you hit the structure. lol)... Dr. Millstein performed a knee replacement on my right knee on 5/17/17. He operated on my left knee 2 1/2 years ago. Both surgeries went extremely well, and my recuperation has been excellent both times. He is very caring, and listens to you. I live in Palm Desert, but he is worth the long drive. Also as a bonus, my scars look better than others I have seen. I recommend him highly. I am now 6 months post-operative meniscus repair of my knee with Dr. Millstein. As an RN with surgical orthopedic work experience, I think I can speak on the topic with some perspective. The quick summary: Dr. Millstein is not only an excellent surgeon, he's a trustworthy PERSON. His staff reflects his same commitment to the patient, and if you're his patient, you are listened to, he is generous with his time, and you will not be rushed. I am 62 and my knee hurt for two-plus years before I sought medical attention. I really expected him to tell me something like, "there's nothing wrong with your knee, so quit whining." But in fact, despite no history of prior trauma, my knee cartilage had literally come apart within my knee and needed arthroscopic repair. Within 48 hours after surgery with Dr. Millstein I no longer needed pain pills, I gave up the crutches, gave back the ice machine, and walked without pain for the first time in too long. Since then I have been able to resume hiking with my sons and my wife and all of that without pain. Having worked with scores of orthopedists whose attitudes toward their patients was, to say the least, highly variable, I can recommend Dr. Millstein with real enthusiasm. Dr. Millstein is an excellent orthopedic surgeon. I initially saw him for severe arthritis in both of my shoulders. In 8/16, Dr. Millstein performed right shoulder total replacement surgery. My recovery has been excellent. I never thought that I would regain my strength and range of motion to the extent that I have. My physical therapist has consistently remarked that Dr. Millstein's skill is excellent. At each and every visit, Dr. Millstein gave me all the time I needed to have my questions answered. First, I was twice seen by a resident and then when Dr. Millstein finally came in the room to see me he used his I pad while he spoke to me. I just can say that it was a wonderful experience. His staff is very helpful the wait was less than 10 minutes but what is more important is that he is a very knowledgeable doctor. He will listen to your questions and explain them thoroughly . I had a knee dislocation and the MRI results were not very good but he was able to detect a mistake in the reading and gave me peace of mind. He has great bed side manners and is a compassionate and caring doctor. I was referred to him by Dr Sunu Alhluwalia also an excellent doctor but since he was out of network and I need surgery he referred me to him. I don't have enough words to say the peace I feel after visiting him. I have tear tendons and will need surgery. I trust that my recovery is going to be just fine with him. Finding a orthopedian surgeon is a challenge particularly when mobility is at stake. I am glad I found him. read more

WOW! I am very impressed with this office. I came in after falling off my bike during a triathlon (on a Sunday) and really hurt my shoulder. We called first thing Monday morning about an appointment that day and we were able to be seen within 2 hours of calling. I was x-rayed and left with the prognosis of a separated shoulder. I then lost my Rx and called the front desk to get another one. They faxed the papers over to me immediately and even emailed them as well to ensure that I received it. Great front desk staff as well as nursing staff. Would recommend to anyone looking a orthopedist! read more

I have to praise Dr. Millstein. I have had numerous orthopedic issues and he has dealt with all of them professionally, as well as helped me heal. He has recommended not having surgery when other doctors said i had no choice, and he was right. He has done arthroscopic surgery on both my knees and I was up and walking right away. I had an allergic reaction to a medicine and he was available and came in early to take care of it. He has gone the extra mile every time. He now has seen all my family and we are all pleased. ONE OF THE BEST!!! This was one of the best doctor experiences I've had recently. From the first contact with the office to make an appointment, through sending me all the necessary paperwork, appointment confirmation and the doctor visit itself (including almost no wait time) it was nothing but pleasure. Dr. Milstein's Beverly Hills office deserves the highest praise. Especially after having a really unpleasant experience with another known doctor from D.I.S.C (Marina Del Rey), I expected what the norm for orthopedic surgeons has become in recent years. Not so. Dr. Milstein is one of the most pleasant, considerate and caring doctors I have encountered in quite some time. As a personal trainer/someone who needs to stay very healthy and active, I am very discerning when it comes to choosing physicians I work with, or recommend to my clients. In my opinion, the knowledge is just as important as service and attitude, since what good is the best knowledge if you don't feel comfortable with the person and the office is sub-par. What sets Dr. Milstein apart from others is a lack of arrogance so commonly seen in many doctors these days. I always thought that with age and experience comes humbleness, but usually it's arrogance instead. Dr. Milstein, even though still very young, is an exception. I hope he never changes. read more

Dr. Millstein is very patient and professional. He is humble and takes his time. I was a new patient and was referred to him by another patient of his. I have seen many doctors in LA and many of them do not treat you like the customer rather you should be thankful you are seeing them. This is NOT the case with Dr. Millstein. I think he's a nice doctor but the staff is very difficult. Calls aren't returned, very difficult to get an appt for weeks even when you tell them you are in a lot of pain. You are still forced to wait two weeks to see him for relief. They don't reserve any times in their schedule for that which is odd to me. They try to get you to have xray's before you have even seen him to discuss your issues and pushed hard for that even though no xrays were going to be needed. read more

OUTSTANDING! Just had Dr. Millstein perform surgery on my torn meniscus. He was actually my 'second opinion' doctor and i found his explanation of the surgery and its ramifications to be thorough and understandable to me -- a frustrated old sports player. Prior to the surgery, Dr. Millstein literally showed me through the entire procedure -- with pictures! The surgery was painless and the healing process has been much more pleasant than the last three months trying to live with the torn meniscus while going through physical therapy. His bedside demeanor is very friendly and compassionate without being patronizing or obsequious. read more

I had some severe pain in my knee after running so I decided to go see Dr. Millstein.I called the day before and got an appointment right away. His facilities are state-of-the-art and flawlessly clean. What I like about Dr. Millstein is that he took the time to explain why my injury was not severe and was not quick to suggest or recommend in x-ray or MRI in order to save me money. I definitely highly recommend Dr. Millstein should you have any need to see a specialist. He is very professional,cares about his patients and definitely knows what he's talking about.
