We bought an 85-year-old house and that means one thing - galvanized pipes. Otherwise known as swiss cheese, aka, going to leak and burst whenever I feel like it, aka, go ahead you cheapo and roll the dice and not replace me. I know a plumber back east and he told get rid of the "galvi" ASAP. Um, ok. So I called a few plumbers. Some were really cheap, like do the math and you wonder it takes X days and Y material, how do you stay in business? Another big shop in town was very expensive and seemed like they were adding little things here and there to the estimate. Erickson's guy, Mike, was very nice and was thorough and was clear on not needing things that the other high-priced shop proposed. He explained the residential codes to me and why I did not need certain things. He did preface that this was not going to be cheap. He walked through all the things that needed to be done and how long it took and I realized that this was going to take several days of someone working all day and knocking out walls and ceilings. This was a big project. Their estimate was expensive, but still about 15% lower than one of the other big guys in town. But, I got a good feeling about them. So I gave Erickson the work. They came in an installed pex and ripped out all the galvanized across 3 floors of my house. They did an excellent job and would not hesitate having them back in the future. read more

Unfortunately I have to write a negative review of Erickson Plumbing. We called about not getting hot water, only lukewarm water, and the first plumber that came out said it was not the water heater and proceeded to change a cartridge in our master shower and charged us $800 for it, which is astronomical for changing a cartridge. He also broke the handle of the shower, reversed the hot and cold directions, and did not tell us it broke. The problem persisted and we continued to have lukewarm water. I called the company and they sent another guy out and he said that our handle was reversed from hot to cold and maybe I had just been using the wrong direction for hot water. Readers, I am not an idiot and know very well what direction is hot and cold in my own shower and what changed with the plumber. He didn't know what the problem was either. I called Erickson and they asked if they could make it right. I made it clear that I will not pay another dime and I expected money back if it ended up being an issue that would have cost me less than $800. They verbally agreed over the phone. They agreed they had misidentified the issue and it was on them to fix it. Erickson sent out a THIRD plumber and he looked at our water heater, said it was a pipe that needed cleaned out, cleaned it out and et voila, we had hot water so it was an easy fix. Afterwards I called to settle with them and see what they could refund me since it did end up being an easy fix and not worth a whopping $800. They refused to refund any of the $800 saying they had spent a lot of time on the issue and going back on their word and original mea culpa that it was their issue and pledge to make it right with me. It should absolutely not be on my dime if they couldn't figure out the problem until the third try and they also absolutely took me for a ride charging me $800 to begin with. I worked with them on good faith to fix the problem expecting them to make it right with me in the end since they were at fault for misidentifying the issue, not fixing it, charging me $800 for not fixing it, and breaking my handle at that. They would not budge and would not give one penny back, which is frankly horrible business. Be prepared to be taken for a ride if you work with them and pay way more than expected and gamble at even getting your problem solved, then lied to afterwards. Hire at your own peril. read more

I finally got around to getting the living room electrical issue addressed. The cats had a huge fight some time ago, and I'd lost power to 3/4 of the room. Because I figured that it was going to be a pretty spendy proposition, I hemmed and hawed about it. When I finally broke down to address it, I used the Yelp "Get-A-Quote" feature to find reputable companies to get the job done. Erickson was one of the responding companies. They were not the company who promised me the cheapest rates. Their contact was professional and friendly. After giving my phone number, I was called by a young lady who asked me to return the call if I was interested in having them work on my home (I was in my 10,000th Zoom meeting at the time of the call). I called back and was asked a few more questions about the issue and I explained that I believed that one outlet was the source of the problem and that fixing it would end all the other problems. I was told that they bill for time and materials and that the cost would be around $200, depending upon the amount of time the electrician would be working. This was in line with the research I'd done on outlet replacement costs. I took a deep breath and accepted the time slot of 7:30 - 9:30 Thursday. This was a quicker time than some of the other companies had available, and I didn't want to wait any longer. Dean was right on time and got right to work inspecting what needed to be done. We chatted a bit as he was preparing to get into the outlet. I showed him down to the basement to ensure that the circuit was off. He'd mentioned several things about the wiring and such while down there. I've made mental notes of them. Before going down, he tried to use a device that would read the current but couldn't get it into the outlet (it was pretty melted). After taking apart the outlet, which was very crispy, he explained that the problem was the wiring in the outlet itself and that my cats fighting didn't cause the overload. It was a fire waiting to happen. I wasn't happy to hear that, as I've now got concerns about all the other outlets in the house. It didn't take him any time at all to switch out and correctly rewire the new outlet. This was probably the best $205 I've spent on the house thus far. Dean was friendly, professional, and fast. I'm feeling quite happy that Yelp has helped me go three for three with service professionals coming to work on things in my home. I know that I'll be calling Erickson for anything that comes up in the future. read more

Update: The overall installation of the HVAC system went smoothly. However, the follow up Erickson's did regarding the scheduling of the city inspectors was absolutely horrendous. We scheduled 3 different full days with an Erickson Plumbing/Heating employee to block off entire days to wait for the City inspector to show for the inspection of the electrical on the the Unit. All three times Erickson's assured us someone would be coming from the City to inspect the electrical connection. Granted we know this is a separate entity than Erickson's Company, however they are still responsible for ensuring the task is completed per the contract and agreement. All three days wasted waiting.... and waiting..... and waiting.... A suggestion would be to have the Erickson's Manager call the supervisor of the City employee who continually failed to show at the address as promised. GET THE PROBLEM FIXED! Use problem solving techniques and fix the solution rather than just scheduling another time slot in which a no show would transpire. Satisfied with the quality of work, but dissatisfied with the problem solving, intellect and ability to adjust to a changing environment. Update: called them out to fix the HVAC system they installed 3 years ago.... they said it'd only be a $180 call out. Turned out to be $500 because the technician they sent was brand new or it seemed like it because he didn't know how to do anything and therefore had to call someone and have another tech on the phone walk him through on how to fix it. They charged me the time for his ignorance!!! Horrible company. read more

One star so it registers... I must say I've been underwhelmed by this company. I emailed that we were looking for someone to look at our plumbing and figure out if we could add an iron pre-filter, plus we had a leaking faucet in our garage. They sent a guy out who insisted on payment before he walked in. I should have sent him away. He took the check, looked at the faucet, and told me to go to a big box store and get a good one that screws into the existing one. I asked about the iron filter and he said he didn't know how to do that, but someone else would come out. I waited a few weeks, then called to ask about the second plumber. I'm still waiting, six weeks later. For $210 I could have bought a lot of faucets. Use them at your own peril. read more

We found this company on Yelp. We first started communicating over Yelp messages. They said they would call me on Monday and they did. We scheduled them for next Tuesday and they were on-time. I really liked the text message reminders and a picture of the electrician before he arrived. We had a new outdoor light installed above our front door and two new outdoor power outlets. He had a difficult job because the light had to be 50 years old. I was right. It had Stucco over the inside electrical housing bracket. After a few hours he had successfully completed the work. There is zero chance I would have completed the installation. After that we moved to the garage. I moved everything from the walls and began drilling holes for the wiring. I went back inside to take a few meetings and before I knew it he was done. Great work! read more

I was given a bid to install a list of plumbing products in my shower. I did have 2 problems requiring getting correct part and a missing part necessitating 2 trips they did see accommodating at first. But when I called to say I had everything in I was advised that the cost was now 3 times the amount quoted. Their quote person asked me how much of that I wanted to pay. I was flabbergasted. He then requested I pay the remainder of the balance of the original quote even though the job was not finished. I told him I was going to check with my husband. He then insisted I be transferred to accounts payable when I said if he is charging that much I would bid it out again. His plumber also drew in permanent marker on my insert which we are having trouble removing. So we are now pissed and are having another company finish the job but now I am paying double. No way I was giving him an amount when I was thinking a few hundred and he was talking an additional 3K. Nor was I giving more money to someone that did not honor their bids. I will also be filing a complaint with the BBB and anywhere else I can think of to post. read more

We have had two urgent problems. A toilet had parts snap off in the tank - no flushing. We briefly debated "do it ourselves." We found Erickson Plumbing on Yelp and connected with them. A very nice gentleman showed up promptly and solved the toilet problem. We've been missing a programmable thermostat. We bought a house knowing that the outlets needed to be grounded. I scheduled a time for someone to come take a look and give us a free estimate. Joe arrived and I told him what we wanted done and he did a very thorough job walking through the house, checking outlets, and explaining things. It took some time before we had the finances to schedule the actual work, but I was pleasantly surprised to find they were able to get us on the schedule within 8 days from my calling to schedule. I was also happy that Joe was able to come back to do the installation as he already knew what we were working with. The job ended up taking slightly longer than expected because of some faulty wiring in the house, but Joe was sure to check in when his estimated time was up and give a progress report and make sure I was okay with him continuing work. The total cost ended up being almost spot on with the estimate. I really appreciate the thoroughness of Joe's work and will certainly be reaching out to Erickson to schedule future projects. read more

I hired this company to help with electrical work in my new house. An electrician arrived on Nov 29th and I talked to him about the 5 or so things I needed done, such as installing an electrical outlet outside and new ceiling lighting and fans. He didn't do any actual work on the visit, nor did he charge me, but he also never followed up. I called the company on Dec. 7th to follow up on getting the work done and they said they needed to issue a quote first. We have used Erickson for our heating and air conditioning since 1989 when they installed central air conditioning in our 1916 vintage house which had a boiler and radiators and thus at that point in time had no duct work. At the time Erickson was one of the few HVAC contractors who did this type of work. It was very complex with part of the system outside and the air handling system in the attic. Installation involved running piping from the outside, downstairs compressor to the attic and then installing duct work from the attic to the rest of the house. They were able to do this without damaging the house and with minimal disruption by running the ducting in the closets. The system functioned very well for 25 years until we had Erickson replace the mechanical components with a newer more efficient system recently. They also replaced our old original boiler with a new high efficiency boiler when our old boiler was on the brink of failure. The old boiler was one of those old cast iron monsters but they removed it without causing damage or a huge mess. They have provided us with scheduled maintenance for years and the technicians Jason and John are very knowledgeable, friendly and courteous. I am a mechanical engineer by training so I know that these guys know what they are doing. The advantage of working with a relatively small company like Erickson is that they know you and your system and you know them. When we have had to reach out to the owner Zack Erickson he has always been very accessible and courteous and he knows HVAC. I highly recommend this company and have a hard time understanding the negative comments. read more

I would NEVER recommend this company. Not only do they consistently show up late by 30-60 minutes, but it takes them twice as long to do the work as the company we usually use. We had an appointment to have a furnace certification done on our rental home. The kid (literally) showed up 40 minutes late the first time he came out. I told him right when he got here that I had a meeting I had to leave for in 75 minutes and he said that shouldn't be a problem at all. I checked in with him three separate times while he was doing the work and he kept telling me that he was "almost done." The last time I checked on him he was sitting on his cell phone, talking to another tech and clearly did not know what he was doing, plus was talking about lunch plans. I literally had to interrupt him because he was completely ignoring me. I was beyond mad at this point and told him he had to leave immediately. I had a meeting to get to that I could not be late for and I told him that if he would have shown up on time this would not have been an issue. In the 75 minutes he was at our house, he didn't get even the job done! Unfortunately, we had to schedule another appointment with this company to finish the job because a new company coming in would have had to start from scratch. I am sitting here writing this review as the tech who is supposedly "on his way" is now over an hour late. We were told 35 minutes ago that he was only a few minutes from our house and then got a call back saying that that was actually a different tech and that the tech that is on his way to our house had to stop and pick up paperwork from the original tech so he can finish the job. Are you kidding me?!?!? Why was this paperwork not exchanged days ago?!?!? Unbelievable! Needless to say, we will NEVER use this company again! Avoid this company if you value: Your time - no punctuality Your home - they prefer not to stand behind their work Your sanity - Subpar customer service and billing I decided to use a local company, but now I realize that wasn't my best decision. Called Monday June 11th at 8:23am and left a message. Kenny from service called back within 5 minutes and setup an appointment for the following day. I might have misheard Kenny but I thought he said $125 for service call and $55 for each additional hour of service. The tech, Cole showed up the next day around 8:50am and I explained to him the standing water issue around the HVAC system in my mechanical room. I decided to service the entire air conditioning system to correct the issue. The unit ended up needing 3 lbs of refrigerant ($70/lb), and Cole was finished around 10am. Cole told me the final amount was $445 and I would receive an invoice via email. I should have questioned the pricing at that moment, but I figured I could review the invoice upon receipt for accuracy. I wandered downstairs to my mechanical room around 2:30pm and realized it was again filled with standing water. I immediately called Erickson and talked to Kenny, which he told me that a service person could not come out until tomorrow morning at 7:30am. It wasn't terribly warm out so I just figured I'd turn off the system. The next morning at 8:20am I called Erickson because the tech hadn't shown up. Kenny told me the tech went to another job in Coon Rapids instead and should be there next. I told him I had to be somewhere at noon so it had to be before then. Cole, the tech, showed up around 10:30am with no recollection of being at my house the day before and of course no apology for inconvenience. I followed him down to the mechanical room and he removed the evaporator drain line and blew it clear of debris. He said that was your problem. I questioned him at that time as I thought he said he cleared the line the day before. He then proceeded to charge me another $125 service charge. After Cole left, I immediately called Kenny and to dispute the charge. I was met with great defiance and absolutely no understanding of the situation. He said things similar to we don't warranty our work and what do expect from us. He told me it was a separate incident as it was the next day. I told him I called 4 hours after first service so I guess it is my problem they couldn't get back out that day. He finally agreed to refund the second $125 service fee only after he told me how lucky I was to be getting such refund. The next day I had to email Erickson because I still didn't have a copy of any invoice. I discovered their invoices have no detailed breakdown of charges. I again emailed Kenny to get a breakdown of the charges. He provided an email breakdown which itemized labor 1.5 hours = $235 and 3lbs R-22 refrigerant = $210. The $235 is a little sketchy as it seems they charge $125 service call and $55 for every hour and then round up to the next closest full hour. Again, I might have misheard on the initial call but the tech was here from 8:50am-10am (credit card charge at 10:07am), so just over an hour. read more
