I've come here for about 5 years for oil changes. Sam and Brian usually work the front and they've been helpful and knowledgeable. The shop does tire rotation, inspection, alignment, tire balancing, transmission flushes, mechanic work, etc. They have a buy 4 get one free oil change loyalty card, too! The interior waiting room is clean and I always feel comfortable waiting here. Their estimated time is usually fairly accurate. I've never taken the shuttle but the one time I asked about it they said they were too busy to provide the transportation. There is some walkable stuff nearby to kill time if you need! read more

When my car check engine light came on and was experiencing overheating issues, I researched car repair places near the Med Center in Houston and Eric's Car Care was at the top of list with excellent reviews. Additionally, they were listed as an approved repair facility with my extended warranty company. They definitely live up to their excellent reputation. The front desk service rep, James, was friendly, helpful, and explained everything they were going to do and kept in contact every step of the way. He even handled all of the communication with my extended warranty company, which was a huge relief. AND he arranged for a LYFT to take me to work so I didn't have to wait around. DO NOT GO HERE!!! I went in for an oil change at the Rice Village location and they RUINED my engine because there was actually NO OIL in my car when I drove it home. They attempted to fix the engine wasting over a week of time only to install another engine. After taking it to my mechanic for approval, he found multiple things wrong--screws missing, hoses just dangling, leaks, etc. After fixing all of those issues, we attempted to drive it out of Houston and didn't even make it past Katy before it completely died and needed a tow. We were leaving for an 18 hour trip just days after this and I stated that this car is not safe to drive and we need a rental for the trip. They refused. I mostly come here for oil changes and inspections, but I recently reach 100,000 miles and they gave me a good deal on the required preventative maintenance. Eric's Car Care is great. I've been bringing my car here for almost 4 years and have always thought these guys were super knowledgeable, friendly, and honest, but after the most recent service I'm not so sure anymore. They told me I needed a coolant and brake flush on my vehicle but when I called the dealership they suggested the coolant flush is not due until 100,000 miles and the brake flush is done every three years. They just did a brake flush on my vehicle a year and a half ago. When I asked about they last time they did this they said they have no record of doing so but I keep all the receipts for reasons like this. All of the sets off red flags to me that they're not being honest. How do you not have records of what you've done to my vehicle but I have a receipt for it? I still wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt since I wasn't sure so I took my vehicle to another body shop and ask them to check the brake and coolant level to see if it needed to be replaced. They said no it's fine, they were just trying to sell you some thing. I'm really upset and won't be taking my car back here unless it's for an oil change. They always make suggestions on things that need to be fixed and I've always said sure go ahead because I trusted them , But now I'm wondering how many things over the years have not been truly necessary and how much money I've wasted read more

This is the worst experience I have ever had at a car care facility. Being in customer service myself, I am absolutely appalled at the demeaning, misogynistic service I and my assistant received here. I work very close by (walking distance) and asked my assistant to drop my car off to be serviced (oil change, put air in the tires, etc). When my assistant approached the man at the front desk and read the laundry list of things I had given here to have done to my car, he ridiculed her for not knowing the right verbiage for what she was asking to have done. She asked for a 'little tune up' (because that's exactly what IIIIIII asked for), and after scoffing at her and saying 'What do you mean? That's a $400 service" he asked her "Do you need me to call your boss and ask HIM what he means?" Assuming her boss had to be a male was rude and demeaning. After about 3 hours, my assistant called the shop and was put on hold. For TWENTY FREAKING MINUTES. Since we had such bad customer service earlier in the morning, we decided to see how long they were really going to keep us on hold. After 20 minutes, we hung up and she walked over to retrieve my car instead. The only service performed to my car was an Oil Change with SYNTHETIC oil....... grand total? $80!!!!! FOR A FREAKING OIL CHANGE!!!!!!! I nearly screamed when I saw the bill! I get serviced at the dealership for HALF THAT PRICE! I thought I would give local business a try because I'm all about supporting small, local businesses. But for the awful customer service and outrageous price, I will take my business to the dealership from now on. Shame on you, Eric's. I always took my car to Eric's for service (minor things like oil changes and inspection) when I lived in the area. 4 years ago, I moved out of the area (outskirts of Pearland). When my AC went out, I took it to Eric's because they had always taken care of me in the past. Mind you, I did take it someplace else initially to get an idea of cost, and when I took it to Eric's it was DOUBLE the price!! Yet I still allowed Eric's to do the work because I had trusted them with my car before. June 27th, I dropped my car off at their shop...even though I live AND work 30 minutes (on a good day) away. When I got my car back, my AC worked for a few days but after that it wasn't getting cold the way it should...ESPECIALLY not for having had the AC system COMPLETELY redone! Every week, FOR A MONTH, I called them to say it was barely cooling and EVERY time they said everything was working as it should. Well...if it was working as it should, my car would be cold! OBVIOUSLY, something is wrong. I'm no mechanic, so I trusted the mechanics to figure it out. Needless to say, here it is August 25th, and my AC is NOT WORKING...in these triple digit temperatures! I paid Eric's almost $3500 to fix my AC, and NOW I have to find someone else to fix it and spend MORE of my hard-earned money. VERY DISAPPOINTED!! I won't be taking my car there again!! read more

I just have to yelp because I feel a little bit like a loyal family dog who just got kicked. Eric's had been my go-to mechanic for everything car related (mostly oil changes and inspections) for both family cars since I moved to Houston years ago. Also, with 2 children getting dangerously close to turning 16... well you get the point. My check engine light came on a couple days ago so I took it in this morning for an oil change and also to see about the check engine light. When I arrived I told them that I had taken it to O'Reilly for a free diagnostic and the code was P0505 Idle Control System Malfunction. I understand that the lady working at O'Reilly probably knows about 1% of what the mechanics at Eric's know about my car, but I still told them the code and diagnosis I had received. I left on foot to go down the street and returned about 2 hours later assuming my oil change would be done and that the code would be confirmed and they would have a quote for me. I was however a little annoyed to learn that the oil change hadn't even been done. They did have the diagnostic for me though, exactly the same one I had mentioned (P0505 Idle Control System Malfunction). I was told that this meant that the throttle body assembly would need to be replaced. I asked if it could be cleaned but was told that "No, not on a Toyota. We can do that on Hondas and Nissans but not Toyotas". Well, that is just a straight up lie it turns out after a quick google search. I'm sorry for using the word lie, but I don't know another word for that, maybe "untruth" is less offensive? So, their quoted price for a factory new throttle assembly was $1130. This same brand new (not used or rebuilt) part is available online for $680 after a 2 min search. I understand that it is difficult for brick and mortar businesses to compete with online prices, but in this day and age an auto shop should know that most consumers are going to educate themselves a bit, especially when a part is over $1k. And to put it mildly, a 70% markup is a bit excessive. So, begrudgingly, I was just going to have to leave without having a single thing accomplished, and bring the car back for everything at once. Otherwise I would have had to deal with getting a ride to work on 2 different occasions and all of that hassle. Again why wasn't my oil change done in the 2 hours my car was there?! That may me the most disappointing part of this whole experience. I was waiting to get my key and leave, when I was presented with a bill for $100. I was honestly surprised about this, considering I had come in with the same information and I also know it takes literally just 90 seconds or so to plug in the diagnostic tool under the steering wheel and get the error code. He insist that he had told me it was going to be $98, but I solelmly swear that if I had heard $98, I wouldn't have agreed. I would have just had the oil change done and done some more research myself on the error code. He also said that the price for running a diagnostic is posted right there and pointed to their sign indicating their labor charge for 1 hour. Well, if they needed an hour to get that code, I guess it makes sense that my oil change wasn't done :) After I protested a little, he said 'you know what, don't worry about it' and I thought, hey this place is all-right after all. But then he came back and showed me where he had scrawled $98 on the shop ticket. How was I supposed to see that? The ticket wasn't for me. I didn't sign it or anything. It may have been a misunderstanding, but they know what they're doing, and they have been doing it for a long time, so it really makes me think that this is a technique they use to slightly deceive the customer. I may be wrong there, but that's how I feel. Another slightly shady, and kind of hilarious thing was when I said I would wait and come back to have it all done at once, the mechanic said "ok, just give me some time to put your car back together". Those words made me think for a second, Hm, maybe I should just leave it and get everything done now if they already have parts pulled out and disassembled. I'm pretty sure this language was intended to make me have that thought and just leave the car for all of the recommended work, because when I asked what he meant by 'put it back together' he literally said "Well, we just need to close the hood". Wow. Just wow. So you know what, I'm going to clean the throttle body assembly myself since there are about 50 youtube videos showing me exactly how to do it in under an hour. And when I need a mechanic in the future for something I can't do myself, unfortunately I can't go back to Eric's Car Care. I'm kind of sad about that, but oh well. When you see many 5 stars and 1 star comment. You know there might be a problem. Most of 5-star comments are about oil change. If you just want to change engine oil, brake oil, then just stop reading this comment. However, if you have any mechanic problem, my experience will be helpful. First time I was there because the engine light was on. A very nice guy at Jiffy Lube had told me that the O2 sensor failed the test and throttle chamber was dirty. However, Jiffy Lube didn't offer the service, instead I had to find a mechanic shop. I told Brian, who is working at Eric's Car Care, I was pretty sure that I needed to change O2 Sensor and throttle body. He said I was not professional and they needed to have inspection first, which costed me $200 (just for engine check, not repair). One week later, I got my car. They said my O2 sensor was not ready. However, it was ready when I was at Jiffy Lube. It turned out that they just cleared the computer error code and did nothing. I had to go to the dealer to fix the car, which costed me another $900. (I asked them to replace the sensor for me, their price was even higher than my dealer) Today, I went there to fix my door. It can't be opened from outside. This is a small problem and even I can fix it if I had tools and time (I replaced window regulator by myself before, which was really similar). I went to the shop, telling them that I need to change the cable that connects handle and lock. This time they charged me $49. You think $49 will fix the problem? Naive. They just charged $49 to have a look at the problem. Later today, they asked almost $700 to fix the handle! With that price, I can even replace a new door. I found another mechanic shop nearby, they said it should be a 2-hour load. I checked the part online, the part only worth no more than $100. $100 + 2 hours * Labor/Hour = $700 Total That means, they wanted charge me $300/hour for labor. These guys are insanely honest. When I got my oil changed, the oil change guys told me that I needed to get my brake pads replaced. I then took my car here and they told me that my brakes were perfectly fine. Sam even showed me the brake pads and how they had more than half of their life left. I have brought my jeep here for 9 years. I have had all types of problems with the car over years due to my ambitious driving style and 20000miles/year average. Regardless, the people here have done everything and more for my jeep. They care about your well being on the road and will do what it takes to get the job done right. For example, they catch small problems before they become big. Most of the time you get a little feedback from your mechanic but these guys will tell you exactly what you need done and when, with no pressure to have it done immediately if not serious. Most importantly is they call ahead and communication on the problems. They tell you exactly what was/will be done and will show you if you ask. I call ahead before bringing it in to be sure they can do the work that day or as quick as possible and every estimate they have given me in almost a decade has been dead on or early. Sam manages the places and runs an honest business. It's not the cheapest place in town nor the most expensive, but the quality of the work with the warranty for the work and expert relationship gives any customer a satisfying experience, and peace of mind. I had a great experience with this repairs shop months ago, so I drove down from Deep East Texas for them to look at my SAAB. Now, I did ask James prior to me driving 250 miles, if they worked on this type of car - he assured me they did. But, I have NEVER BEEN SO DISGUSTED with the service I received today. My car was at this shop for 2 days JUST TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT! I was charged $114.00 for an inspection, which I approved in advance. Knowing the quality of work I had received previously, it was ok to leave it for 2 days. HOWEVER, I received no photos of the requested work that needed to be done, even though I have received this type of service in the past. What I did get, was a print out that I could have gotten from Auto Zone for free! I asked if they would please replace the lights in the rear of the car too, since they were out. The report I received was that ALL LIGHTS WERE WORKING PROPERLY, and they never discussed replacing them. The printed, generic report I received, this was ludicrous with nothing factual in it. What a scam this was. It was with great DISAPPOINTMENT that I would NEVER recommend Erics Care Care, unless you have money to throw away, this is NOT the place to go...Good luck... read more

I was told that there's certain services my car company should cover which I wasn't aware of. This will be my first negative review on Yelp, but Eric's has earned it. I was a customer for over two years doing basic maintenance on my car (oil changes, tire rotations, inspections) and for that they were great. Always polite and efficient. So when my car started needing more difficult maintenance done, I decided to use them for the service. Bad idea. I needed an engine mount and rear sway bar links and bushings replaced. I was told it would be no problem at all. Soon after picking up my car the problems started. A new clunk was coming from my newly "repaired" suspension, so I brought it back to give them first crack at what was going on. I was told my brake rotor was warped "probably from driving through deep puddles" but that their suspension work was just fine. This made absolutely no sense to me so I took my car to the dealership for a second opinion and lo and behold, all my brake rotors were fine but the suspension was not reassembled properly from the previous repair. So I had to pay the dealership to correct Eric's mistake, but hallelujah my car was finally working properly. When I called Eric's Car care to tell them this, they got defensive very quickly and said the dealership was ripping me off (even though the noise was gone) and they still believed "it could have been the brake rotor". They also told me they would get back to me, yet never did. Since my car was fixed and no lasting damage was done, I decided to let bygones be bygones and move on with my life. But fate had other ideas because my suspension started groaning again, and the car was running roughly so I brought it in to the dealer to see what was going on. Turns out Eric's Car Care used cheap aftermarket parts that failed prematurely just 18 short months after they had been put on my car (conveniently outside their 12 month, 12,000 mile warranty) and so I would be needing a new motor mount and sway bar links and bushings AGAIN. In summary, Eric's Car Care is great for basic maintenance as they are very polite and efficient, but please, please do not take your car there for anything more complicated than a basic oil change. If I could save just one person the hassle I have been through then this review is worth it. I have been dealing with the fallout from their sloppy work for a year and a half now, and I can safely say it is not worth the $500 they saved me in the first place had I just gone to the dealer. read more

Not the best mechanic, but good service. I dropped off my car here because the check engine light came on. I had gotten the code read and knew it was related to my crankshaft position sensor. Sam took the car in and listened to what I had to say about the CEL, and was very polite, and told me he'd have the mechanic get to it when he could, probably in the morning. One of the guys then gave me a ride home, which I give them credit for. I got a call from Sam about 30 minutes later saying that the mechanic had taken a look at the car and determined that it needed a new crankshaft sensor, a new camshaft sensor and asked if had I had a timing belt replacement done? It was going to be a three hour job and I was looking at $300 in labor, not to mention parts. I asked Sam to have the mechanic clean the connections only, for which they billed me 1/2 an hour labor. That did nothing. I then took the car to my house, cleaned the sensor myself and the CEL went away. Basically, I paid $52 for nothing and got a snow job about my camshaft sensor. I came to Eric's Car Care when I found out I needed to get an inspection for my car. Being that I'm new to the area, I knew NOTHING about where to go or what the protocol was. I called Eric's Car Care and spoke to Sam who told me I could come right in and they would complete the inspection while I waited. Twenty minutes later I showed up and saw that there were many nicer cars in the parking lot. Not that it matters, but to me it makes an impression because if someone is driving a $50k + car and trusts this place with it, it makes it more legitimate. I walked in the door and Sam promptly came to the desk and let me know it would take about 30-45 minutes. I walked around the Walgreens next door and within 30-45 minutes Sam called my cell phone to let me know the car was ready. When I came back to pick up my inspection, Sam let me know where the closest court house was to get my new plates and registration. He said when I was all finished that I could come back and he would put the plates and registration sticker on for me. Several hours later when I FINALLY finished my trip to the Harris County Court House I went back to Eric's Car Care and Sam promptly greeted me, took off my old plates, and put on my new ones free of charge. He gave me some tips about things in Houston, driving rules around here, and made small talk with me letting me know that if I needed anything to take his card and give him a call. The customer service at Eric's Car Care (ESPECIALLY SAM!!) was absolutely fantastic. I'll definitely be going here to take care of any car care needs in the future. I first went to Eric's to get a quote on breaks. I had gone down the street to a big chain and was told I needed all new breaks and some sort of other service I did not ask about. I made them talk to my uncle, a mechanic in Michigan. He told me nope, go someplace else. Eric's told me I only needed front breaks, my back breaks had another 10,000+ miles to go. Later when I took it for its inspection I asked them to look to make sure everything looked ok. They could have given me a whole list of things to jack up the price. I was told my battery needed some work which would about 10 bucks. They are honest. Maybe a little on the pricy side, but I would rather pay a bit more and get the honesty. Saved me a lot already! This was the closest oil change shop to where we live, and given the high ratings, we decided to come here after we drove from California to move here back in July. They had great customer service and did our cars quickly. They didn't try to upsell or scare us about "problems" that we had with our cars, and they were super-friendly. Their oil changes are a little expensive, but they have a buy-5-get-1-free deal, so it pretty much evens out in the end. For a girl, it's easy to be skeptical or feel like you're going to be taken advantage of when it comes to car care, but I really trust Eric and his team to do a phenomenal job. read more

This is a one star rating only because I can't give no stars. There is a reason this place has an overall score of 3.5! This is the equivalent of an F grade, as in not passing. I have been bring multiple vehicles to Eric's for over a decade. Went in today for a vehicle inspection. My first time since the store changed hands. From the minute I walked in the door they were up selling me from oil change to windshield wipers. I politely declined. Was told the wait would be about an hour. Less than 40 minutes after I dropped off the vehicle Eric's called me to say I needed a valve cover gasket, cooling system flush, brake fluid flush, battery cleaning and power steering fluid flush. All for the low price of $1,100 and they could do it all in less than an hour! Again I politely declined. 17 minutes later Eric's called to say the vehicle failed the inspection for low illumination of the headlights. Surprise, surprise! They did not provide a quantitative measurement showing the headlight illumination was below the acceptable standard. Just said the illumination looked low. And of course for a fee they could fix this. At this point I said I would come pick up my vehicle and went down the street to another shop. It is predatory behavior like this that gives all small shops a bad reputation. When a place cannot be trusted you have to move on. I will not be back. read more

This is my to go to car shop! I used to live in the med center and a couple of my friends recommended it. One friend who has a mechanic uncle says she has had work done here and had her uncle check the work they have done. Her uncle said they do work you can trust which made me feel great when I first started going there. I trust them completely! If you live in the area, they can drive you to your place while they work on your car and then they will pick you up when they are done. I moved to Midtown but I would rather take my car here and take a cab home and a cab back to get my car than find a new car shop. read more

So glad to have found Eric's. I've tried Groupons, Jiffy Lubes, dealerships, and every time the offer for a $20 oil change comes out to $100+ when I finally get the bill. Maybe I'm gullible, but I don't know things about cars. You tell me it needs something, I'm probably going to believe you. Eric's never does this to me. They're a tad more expensive generally than others I've tried, but if you get the card for buy 4, get 1 oil change free, the price for an oil change is totally reasonable. I've gotten a dead battery replaced, tires replaced, brakes fixed, and regular oil changes and state inspections. A $35 oil change is a $35 charge at the end of the day. And when they tell me the car needs something, I believe them. We've moved out of the neighborhood, and I still spend a Saturday afternoon making the trek here every quarter or so because it's worth it. read more
