I can't say enough wonderful things about Erlanger Veterinary Hospital. I've been taking my rabbits there for several years, and now that I'm moving out of state, I'm truly heartbroken that I won't be able to continue bringing them there. The entire team has always been incredibly responsive, whether by phone, email, or text, whenever I had questions or concerns. Everyone has treated my rabbits with such kindness, compassion, and genuine care, and I always knew they were in the best hands. Dr. Vecchione and Dr. Pfaehler are both exceptionally knowledgeable and have been wonderful in addressing any health concerns that came up over the years. They always took the time to listen, thoroughly answer my questions, and never made me feel rushed or like any concern was insignificant. Finding a veterinarian who is experienced with exotic pets and truly goes above and beyond is invaluable. I always felt confident that my boys were receiving the highest quality care. I also really appreciated their rewards points program. Veterinary care can be expensive, especially for exotic pets, and being able to earn points that helped offset some of those costs was such a thoughtful benefit. It made a real difference and showed they genuinely care about supporting their clients as well as their patients. A special thank you to Kaitlyn and Nick as well--they are absolutely amazing! I'm from AZ, so seeing turtles in the road is completely new to me. Saw a little guy in the road moving around, so I decided to help him get out of the road. Only to find someone had ran over the front part of his shell and head. Completely devastated I called a few vets to see if someone could help euthanize him so he wouldn't suffer. Erlanger Veterinary Hospital answered and was completely polite and respectful of me crying about a turtle that was not my pet. They said to bring him in and they would help the poor little guy. That says a lot about the practice and the people that work there. Showing true compassion for all animals. If I didn't live so far away, I would absolutely take my animals there. read more

They are one of the very few veterinary clinics near me that are actually knowledgeable about ferrets. They have always treated my ferrets gently and with care. I would highly recommend them for ferrets. Apply for a CareCredit card if you need help with the payments - that's what I do. I can't say they aren't pricey, but the care and treatments they give were always worth it to me. read more

Do not take reptiles to this vet! Especially Ball Pythons with respiratory infections. The vet wasn't concerned at all, didn't mention doing any kind of culture. Just gave a broad spectrum antibiotic that did nothing for two weeks. Went back and they just said continue antibiotic and handed us a list of potential tests totalling nearly $1000 without explaining what any of them were. Took our Ball to another vet nearly 40 minutes away and they immediately recommended a culture, set up a treatment plan, and tried a different antibiotic. Sadly for our snake it was too late and her body couldn't take anymore and she passed away. Maybe if this vet had tried literally anything sooner she could have been saved. read more

just nowNEW For anyone planning on taking a pet in for surgery. Don't! I took my old English bulldog in on 2-28-22. I lost him on March 1st 2022. He was 3 years old. He went in for acl surgery. A metal plate was going to be put in his leg. I was told by the vet they had to keep him overnight and be monitored throughout the night and watched. I was concerned for his breathing bc he is a bulldog and the vet knew it. Come to find out the staff clocked out at 6:30 pm monday and left him alone and neglected for 14 hours in recovery. When they came in at 8am Tuesday he was dead. He died sometime earlier in the night alone. Don't keep animals overnight if you don't plan on being with them and watching them. I was told he was being watched and taken care of. My heart is shattered read more

This Vet office has carless front office staff, high turnover and not very nice, also over priced. They are a corporate entity over an actual Vet office. Majority of their work/decisions based on revenue earnings vs actual compassion. My dog has epilepsy so she has to take medication to not have seizures everyday. The vet has been charging me way more for the medicine than it actually cost at a regular people pharmacy. I've been spending an extra unneeded amount of $60-$70 when I could have been saving by going to a people pharmacy. Erlanger never let me know it was an option to have her prescription refilled at a pharmacy where it'd be way cheaper. I'm disappointed the vet never let me know this was an option. It seems like the care is more about the money than with my dog from this experience. read more

The doctors and staff have been wonderful through the years with my hedgehog. The service we received was amazing and when I had to put her down yesterday, the staff was incredibly kind and compassionate. They even made me a little ornament with her paw prints and quills. This business estimated that my dog's procedure would cost $850-$1000, this after they'd already performed a non-invasive procedure that failed, costing me nearly $500. I begged them to let me make payments; after paying for the first treatment, I simply couldn't afford to pay another hefty sum all at once even after increasing my work hours to provide the care my dog needs. It's now been two weeks since we've spoken about the next step in my dog's treatment, my dog has gone elsewhere and had the procedure performed for less than half the lowest cost estimated, and I've still not heard back from them about the possibility of making payments! To their knowledge, my dog could be in extreme pain at this point, and they haven't even taken the five minutes to return my phone call!? High-quality care does not equal high-quality people. I truly believed that they'd show compassion after I repeatedly told them that the failed initial procedure had drained my bank account -- but instead of rallying to my dog's side to provide the follow-up care that she so desperately needed, they just didn't. I called again and again, and I waited, all the while in a panic, to hear back from them. I am disgusted at how we were treated once they realized that I wasn't wealthy enough to pay what I now know was double or even triple the price quoted to me by several other clinics. They'll have a million excuses and explanations as to why this happened, I'm certain, but the bottom line was the bottom line: MONEY. Greed and arrogance make people do really awful things. They do, indeed, provide quality care, so if you are experiencing an emergency and have nowhere else to go, I can say with certainty that they'll provide care first and ask for money after... but if you're simply looking for an actual human to treat you like an actual human, and if you're the least bit trusting of them and naive like I was to their motives, they'll take you for all you're worth in the process. They won't suffer one bit from losing just one client, like me, who could barely afford their services anyway -- but I suffered, and my dog suffered, because we couldn't easily drop a grand at the drop of a hat. Nobody, human or beast, deserves to be made to feel this way. read more

I have been to a few vets with my family's and my personal animals, and my experience at Erlanger Vet has SURPASSED any experience I have encountered. We once had a 7-year-old golden retriever who got extremely sick with liver issues. Our prior veterinarian AND a specialist had said he needed to get put down. The date was scheduled, and we decided to get a third opinion right before we were putting him down. Erlanger Vet gave him a simple antibiotic and THREE YEARS LATER Ollie is good and well. I have recently adopted a stray kitten and have been to the Erlanger Vet with my first "real" pet as a 22-year-old (who is soon moving to Chicago). I will be back to get any treatments at Erlanger Vet every time I come back to Kentucky to visit family. GREAT people and great care for your animals!! read more

I want to make it clear...the staff has always treated me and my family very kindly. However, I feel this review is nessassary due to the aftermath of a overload of vaccinations. My dog had been going to this Vets office since he was a puppy. Ive always put my trust into what the Vets thought was right for him. I no longer have that full trust in them. How can a dog that's been seen by these Vets since he was a puppy....have such horrid allergies? His ears are a constant battle, they look wrecked. He's had medicine from the Vet. He's been back more times than I'd like to admit for this issue. I even tend to cleaning them at home. That is...when he's not being groomed. He receives his expensive Royal Canine from that Vet. He has gotten in the past to be what I then thought the best care and food I could give him. Yet...his allergies are still out of control. He has several cyst that's spread from his back to his side. I also have to give him eye drops for dry eyes. I know this is a breed issue. However, I think that all of the skin and allergy issues point to something else. OVER VACCINATIONS!! I have never once been told that this small dog really doesn't need this shot or that shot. He is always just given them. I have since discovered over half of those shots would not have been recommended by other Vets. As for his life style...they are not nessassary. Here's where things take an even worse turn. I made a special phone call and specifically ask if he received all those vaccinations at once...would he get sick? Would he be ok? I was told he would be fine. They saw nothing in the past that would suggest otherwise. Well...of course I can not remember each detail over the years. However...it all came back to me. After he was loaded up with those shots...very soon after, he was vomiting non stop. I mean moments after he got sick....he got sick again. This went on for over a day. I was extremely upset and a nervous wreck. Here's another spin on all of this. He had just been to the Vets for a full check up the week before he'd received all of those shots. I'm talking X-rays, physical exam, blood work...you name it. He was given a clean bill of health. He was in great shape. Anyway...back to the vomiting non stop...so back to the Vet he goes. They mentioned maybe he had a blockage? It wasn't there a week ago? So...more test, more X-Rays. THERE WAS NOTHING THERE. HE SHOWED NO SIGNS OF BLOCKAGE OR ANYTHING ELSE. Now...I love my boy and would spare no expense. However...I'm not made of money. I felt I had been taken at this point. IT WAS THE VACCINATIONS. I know my boy. I have had past tragedies with another one of my boys. He ended up having to be put to sleep due to a neurological issue that was in fact caused by a monthly heart worm pill. This was given by a different Vet that is no longer in business. Oh, he has also developed really bad hot spots since his vaccinations, that I was told would not harm him. So....now you know the entire story. I put my total trust into this Vets office and its staff. I was let down. Worse...my boy was let down and now is suffering. They in their hearts know all these vaccinations are indeed harmful. I really felt they treated each dog as an individual case. Now I feel their only trying to push product out the door. I hear some get an added bonus for meeting a certain goal. Weather that's true for this Vets office? I'm not allowing my boy to be a dollar sign on their paycheck anymore. I wish you all the best. Love, love, love this place!! I just moved to the area and hadn't established myself with a vet yet. My dog needed a visit to the puppy ER on a Friday night, and we were only given enough meds until Monday when we were advised to go to our regular vet. I called on Saturday morning, and they were easily able to give me an appointment on Monday. When we arrived the desk staff were very kind and courteous. I didn't even have enough time to fill out my "new patient" information paperwork before I was taken back to the exam room. We got there early, so our tech, Rian, gave us a tour of the hospital while we waited, which I thought was great - I've never had a vet office do that before. Rian was super nice and friendly and took great care of my dog. The vet we saw was Tony Schumann, who did a great job as well! He gave my dog a very full and thorough exam, even though we were only there for him to check on the staples my dog received for a laceration. He was very kind and friendly. We go back to get the staples removed in about a week, but I will be continuing to go here forever. I also thought the cost was very reasonable - I paid about $75 for the full exam and a week's worth of antibiotics. I have nothing but praise for this great facility! read more

I took my dog to Erlanger Veterinary Hospital in the middle of the pandemic (August 2020) despite my concerns about COVID. My vet entered the exam room improperly masked and refused to wear his mask correctly despite my suggestion. When I mentioned this a few days later on the client satisfaction survey, he refused to see me again, even though he had been my dog's vet since she was 3 months old. Really ignorant, unprofessional behavior in my opinion, but consistent with his previous inappropriate comments about his ex wife and a racially insensitive remark about professional athletes. read more

Do not take your pets there, I had an appointment for my leopard gecko and the doctor advised me to purchase a 5.0 UVB light. When I did purchase the light I realized it had the same brightness as a normal lightbulb which is very damaging to their eyes. I went back and talked to the doctor about it and they said they didn't realize that was it was a bright light. if I hadn't have done my research my pet would be blind at this point to say I'm angry is an understatement. read more

I took my 2 chihuahuas to get a dental cleaning and they broke my chihuahuas jaw and the veterinarian that did it didn't even talk to me face to face and he left a message on my voicemail saying that she had a possible extraction but her jaw appeared very strong and he didn't see any problems with it.... I feel he was a coward and she had to go back several times and in the end her jaw will never be the same and she lost several teeth when her jaw broke and not to mention her existing teeth were not even cleaned. So, they not only did this but they charged me over $2000.00 when I picked her up that day they told me not to let her chew!! So its been 8 weeks more..we and I'll never trust them with my dogs and I am disputing what they charged me!! When in all reality they should have said no charge at all. They admitted that this vet was totally in the wrong and they are lucky I'm not suing them because I could. Be careful people if you love your pets as much as I do.. you would think at these outrageous prices they would be a bit more careful with our fur babies. read more

I decided to come to this vet after I had a terrible experience at different vet in Ohio, and I have nothing bad to say about this place. I took my chinchilla here to get her teeth trimmed, which was performed by Tony Schumann. He called me throughout the day to inform me what was going on, and to ask for permission to continue with the teeth trim. He is very knowledgeable and personable. You can tell he genuinely cares about the pets he works with, as well as their owners. The techs at the counter are also super sweet and helpful. They're very understanding, and nice to the pets. As I dropped off my chinchilla last time, the vet tech was talking sweetly to her as she carried her away. The prices are reasonable, and the care is very high quality. Prices are steep but staff was friendly, courteous, and the vet knowledgable. I brought in my two sugar gliders, the exam was very thorough and the vet & tech did not have to use gloves as my gliders did not bite (made handling much easier as well). They were genuinely interested in my pets and took detailed information plus a photo of each. The vet did not know about the diet I feed but was willing to look it up when I gave the website address (http://www.hpwplus.com) and did not push different diet or housing care on me. I don't believe there was any multiple-animal discount and the exams were pricey, but that's something I was told before seeing this vet. Scheduling an appointment was not a problem. Overall your typical vet hospital, fortunately they were knowledgable on sugar glider health and care so I'm satrisfied. read more

Felt like a Seinfeld episode where George goes to the doctor for 5 minutes and is charged $90 then goes on to avoid paying. Not that I didn't pay, but I felt like they didn't do anything and then charged me 65 bucks. It was for an eye exam that they just shined one of those things they look in your eye with into his eye and told me there wasn't anything wrong then proceeded to try and sell me other treatments, shots.. idk didn't seem right to me. I bought a sick guinea pig from petsmart last month and took her here since guinea pigs are considered exotic and most vets don't treat them. I called to make an appointment and was given one the very next day. The staff was super friendly and the hospital was clean. I did have to wait 10 minutes due to a shortage of staff, but the technician was sincerely apologetic. My only gripe is the actual veterinarian was rather pushy. He administered a vitamin c injection, without my permission costing me an extra $30, because he thought it would help her get better faster.They are pretty pricey with around $70 for just an examination. She is better now, though. I received a really nice hand signed card from them in the mail today that really surprised me. Pricey but nice staff. The technician Deede was super sweet and the receptionist that booked my appointment and received my payment was also super nice. read more

I recently moved to the area from out of state and needed to find a new Vet. This was one of the closest to me so I decided to give it a try. I will not be returning again. To start, when I got there I waited at least 30-45 minutes in the lobby before ever being called into a room. There was only one other patient there at the time so I know they were not busy. The Vet assistant brought us into a room and they are by far the smallest I have seen. There is a table, a corner for you to sit, and very little else. She was VERY pushy trying to sell me on everything. She never gave me an option for flea/tick medicine other than the brand that they push on you which I am sure they receive a hefty sponsorship amount from and which was twice as expensive as the brand I had been using in the past. They also pushed for all of the "optional" vaccinations and guilt trip you if you decline them. The Vet was not any better. She never introduced herself and was not polite or welcoming at all. You would think for a new patient they would at least try a little harder to keep your business. The routine visit which I was expecting to cost about 100 ended up costing me closer to 400. They nickel and dime you for EVERY little thing. I brought in a stool sample to be tested and on top of the price for the testing, they charged me a WASTE REMOVAL FEE to throw away my dogs poop. Just give it back and I would have thrown it away myself. I will NOT be returning here again. read more

I was very disappointed in wasting my time in setting up the appointment for my dogs and waiting a half hour in the waiting room. To have the vet tech tell us they were going to "regive " two extra sets of shots they had already had just because they haven't given them to my dogs. We got up, told her we where done here, offered to pay for whatever time we wasted there time, and left. Totally ridiculous. read more

I took my rabbit here when she had a uterine rupture. They saw her on a Monday. All they did was an x-ray to verify the problem, "schedule" her for a spay on Friday, and sent me home with some pain medicine for her. I wondered why they didn't spay her that day. On Thursday, she started bleeding pretty bad, so I called the office and they told me that it was normal for a rabbit to bleed like that with a uterine rupture. Really?! I almost had to insist that I bring her in that day! They finally told me to bring her in. By that time she was weak from so much blood loss. They took her to stay overnight since she had a "scheduled spay" the next morning. Next call I got was from the vet saying in order to do the surgery on her she would need a blood transfusion! That will be $$$$ please. Unfortunately, I couldn't afford that, and the next morning the vet called me to tell me she died overnight. She bled to death alone in a strange place, and without me able to be there with her all because they didn't fix the problem on that Monday. I lost her 2 days after Christmas. She didn't have to die. If they didn't want to do the spay that Monday, then why didn't they refer me to someone who would? So many unanswered questions. I would strongly not recommend this vets office! read more
