We used Erling Rohde Plumbing for several jobs. One job was working on a water heater which went out in the evening. Johnny drove up from Imperial Beach and as I recall he did not charge us overtime. He did an excellent job on a complicated problem with the water heater which another plumber couldn't fix. Twice he has done additional work for us regarding leaks from our kitchen faucets and is prompt, explains the problem and his prices are very, very reasonable. A big shout out to him! read more

Contacted plumber to replace a cartridge on a shower unit. Worked four hours and was unable to replace the unit. Broke both the existing cartridge and the new cartridge. Spent nearly $1000 for nothing. Poor quality and value. read more

Plumber showed up for a kitchen drain clean out, worked for 2 hours and said he used a special snake which was nothing more than a 3/8 regular snake without a tip. It was a tough one to unclog, but ultimately they charged $150 an hour plus some premium charge to use a 'special snake'. I don't buy it, they never called to let me know and get my approval, they suddenly just said it took them 2 hours and a special snake, and so fee was $514.00!! I talked them down to $411.00, but I feel for 2 hours and a clog that was 15' down the pipe, $411 is way to excessive. A fair price would've been $300 tops. Most competent plumbers quote 69.99-149.00 to unclog a drain which is what I was expecting. A 3/8" snake without a tip is not a 'special snake', what a con. I have personally cleared this drain myself with my 3/8" snake in under an hour, I just wasn't available to do so that day. They never gave me a quote ahead of time to get my approval. These guys will never get my repeat business or referrals. Stay away from these guys if you don't want to over pay and get scammed. read more

We call Erling Rohde when the tenant notices a problem; they come out promptly and do a thorough job, always leaving a neat work-site. When we needed more work (installing a new whole house shut-off and water pressure regulator) we trusted their advice on where to locate the valve (and they brought a guy to dig the trench, so we weren't paying plumber prices for that part of the job) . Their quote came in well below competitors and the plumber who showed up was courteous and efficient, so I went with them. The fix became much more difficult than originally anticipated, but they completed it for the original quote and were professional throughout. Would definitely use again. read more

Erling Rodhe Plumbing definitely give plumbers a good name! They certainly know what they are doing! I called into Erling Rodhe because we had a few toilets backing up, and a leaky bathtub faucet. We got an appointment scheduled right away- same day, and ALL our repairs were done in record time! In and out! They certainly know their stuff... and I guess they should after being in business since 1910! :-) The serviceman was friendly, professional and FAST... and the best part... He left the place cleaner than when he arrived! LOL. It's so nice to have a "go-to" plumber now- I will use them from now on and I highly recommend their services. PS: Oh- The price was right too! Erling Rohde Plumbing has been doing the plumbing in our house since long before we moved in, and for us as owners, for over 50 years. We even found Grandfather Rohde's signature on the back of an old sink, from some time in the early 1920's. They really understand old houses, and have kept things up and running all these years. It is odd to give a top rating to a plumber whom you have never used-- but that is the reason for this rating. I called Erling Rohde and explained what I thought needed to be done...and was advised against doing it. In effect, this plumber talked himself out of a job and explained why. Erling Rohde Plumbing is a joke. They did not provide anything in writing even when it was requested nor was the 3 options ever discussed. This guy responded to my 1st review and the only thing actually truthful was the price. No options were given by the guy that showed up to do the work. I matched all products that were replaced by their worker as the old parts were requested to be left, for me to examine. I guess this actually upset the guy that did the work as he had to be asked multiple times to leave the parts. I found them all available at the Home Depot and the total cost would have been just under $50.00, not 168.00. Only now does he talk about 3 options 2 never existed prior to the work being done. Had I been here I definitely would not have allowed this company to rip off a 102 year old woman like they did. As for 106 years in business I am sure the original founders would not be proud of the current owners business practices. There are lots of business that have been around over a hundred years. Look at Lehman Brothers they were founded in 1858 and they caused the great recession of 2008, and it was because of their horrible business practices. They got what they deserved because of their deceptive business practices now they are not in existence today. I can only hope that this company can find its ethics and moral values or they go the way of Lehman Brothers. read more

He fixed the issue in under 10 minutes and the bill was fair especially since no other big fancy drain service company was available until the following day. Great job Manuel! I recently hired this company to unclog a toilet in a house I rent out. I hired them b/c they are a local, family/veteran owned business, which I always try to support. This was my first and only experience with them. Pros: Fast - Able to have someone come out the same day (within 2 hours) and quickly resolve the issue. Painless - Very responsive and no problems with the overall experience. Cons: Expensive - charged nearly $100 to have them run a toilet auger (basically a snake) down the toilet to unclog it. The breakdown of the price was $88 for labor and 5$ for the auger. The entire job from start to finish took about 5 minuets. I expected it to be less costly, especially since my property is located less than 3 miles away from their business. Scheduling Accuracy - was told by company to expect a worker to arrive at 1pm that day. He showed up before noon, over 1 hour sooner than expected. This could have been problematic if my tenant was not home or was busy at that time. In conclusion, if you don't mind paying a little more for a repair then it may be worth hiring this company as they are very fast and easy to work with. Personally, I expected a much smaller bill for such a simple, fast job. Scheduling accuracy and cost are very important to me as I always have to coordinate with my tenant to get anything repaired while keeping costs low. read more

My recent experience with this company was terrible. The person they sent over did not fix anything and wanted to charge us over one hundred dollars. He was only there for one hour and wanted to charge us a hour and a half. All he did was call hoa to stop the water and rest for the rest of the time. I would recommend Erling Rohde Plumbing because of all the work they have done at my house for over 20 plus years. They have done many jobs at my house, everything from fixing simple faucet leaks to more complex jobs such as repairing a blue line leak, installing a clean out and fixing a leak due to a broken pipe damaged by a large tree root. Because Erling Rohde Plumbing has been consistently honest and trustworthy working at my house, my elderly Mother has also utilized their services. Most recently, my Mother hired Erling Rohde to work at her home because SDG&E determined there was a gas leak that needed repairs done by a plumber. SDG&E turned off the gas until such repairs were successfully and timely completed by Erling Rohde Plumbing. Her house was built in the 40's and SDG&E determined the the gas line into the house had to be fixed /rerouted to the standards of current city code. The men at Erling Rohde Plumbing understood exactly what the city required. The plumbers obtained the necessary city permit for the work and arranged for the inspection with the city so that SDG&E could turn the gas back on to the house as soon as possible. Due to the knowledge, plumbing skills and competency of the men at Erling Rohde Plumbing, their work on the gas line passed the city code inspection.
